Jake Gyllenhaal - with extra definition

Jake Gyllenhaal has made me buy a Blu-ray player. 'WDW, buy a Blu-ray player, you will not regret it. You will enjoy me with extra definition'. Jake didn't actually say that but he may as well have done. The reason is, of course, the imminent release of Prince of Persia in a multi Blu-ray pack (by the sound of it, you get at least 16 discs). The DVD (aka Blu-Ray and DVD and Digital Edition) is now already available on the European continent, which gives me hope that my copy will arrive soon and, when it does, I will be ready.

And what will we get? Confirmation that on the Prince of Persia set you were no-one if you didn't have a Straw Hat. Clearly, Mike Newell wanted to make it clear right from the offset that this was a British site with British summer rules - if you don't wear a summer hat (or a hanky with knots at the corners) you're off. Health and Safety and all that.

I find that biceps are a great way to complement a straw hat.

With my new Blu-ray capablities, there are whole new opportunities to enjoy some fine moments in crystal clear digitation. Thinking certain Santa Hat dances in the deserts, kisses in the mountains and cycling down the Hollywood Hills.

I wonder how they got to pick the guy who sat on the elephant.

A taster of what we have in store:

Pictures thanks to Gemma Arterton Online.

Lego Dastan rules once again! :-D

Awesome that you managed to get bluray after all. :-) I've seen the dvd/bluray here in the shops as well, although my own online ordered one says 'arrival Sept 13'... Bit odd, but ok.

Those hat pics are hilarious. Mike must have understood Hat & Safety instead of Health & Safety, don't you think? ;-) And I certainly approve of the combo hat-biceps-blue.

Hi Lady Ekster! OMG I love Lego Dastan - what a mover. I'm hoping that my Blu-ray will work - I've got a drive for my laptop so fingers crossed.

That is odd! I've heard it's available on the continent right now - so I hope they can post ours soon!

Love the hat! Jake Gyllenhaal in a straw hat - some things are meant to be :D

Santa hat dance is probably in my top five of all time fave movie moments. Not that I replayed those precious few seconds repeatedly or anything.

(I blame the stomach ripple).

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh, the stomach ripple, BR! That is an amazing thing and should be treasured and rewatched at regular intervals. I know Jake has said that he can't dance (and I do recall the hedgehog ninja dance) but here he shows he can! What pleasant thoughts with which to finish off the day :)

I think you are the start in a flood of WDW readers buying a blu-ray.:)

Lucky Europe having the PoP DVD out already. I can't even find out the release date here in New Zealand - it is certainly not September. On the bright side, the DVD of Brothers is coming out on 8 September - yay - will be my first viewing. I didn't catch the movie in cinemas.

Liked the Lego action.

Cheers

Sipping red wine with the breeze coming in the screen porch on a beautiful summer night in New England catching up on a week's worth of WDW posts - whooowheee!!

I hope you don't mind if I go back a bit and play catch up on commenting...

I loved the PoP behind the scenes clips and am getting so excited for the DVD/Blu-Ray set too! Good luck to whoever tries to pull me away from my TV once I have that in the house!

Even though I saw the grizzly looking Jake photos on line last weekend, coming here and seeing them posted next to the photo of Big Foot had me in hysterics! The same exact walk - too funny! Thanks for the laugh WDW and BR!

I love the reflection on Farragut North and it brought back a great memory of when I talked to Jake in April 2008 about him doing theater again (right around the time the play/movie rumors resurfaced). He told us a funny story about how he read the book and told a director friend about it and then later there was talk of the play and then the movie and the director friend asked Jake why he never told him about the book and he said "I did"!! It was a confusing story but Jake got a kick out of it but it was early on into our lunch so I was basically just staring at Jake and not taking in much of the story. But it brought back a great memory so thank you!! :-)

I can't wait for the SU2C telethon on 9/10. I hope there is at least a trimmed beard by then. *please* And that LAOD poster - WOW!! I can't wait to see the real thing. I wonder who this girl knows to get her hands on that poster so early...it's all who you know sometimes!

And the most terrific news of the week...WDW and Duncan Jones!! I saw some of your clips on MB and read what you wrote - exciting stuff!! My eyes were very tired as it was late so I do have to get back there and continue. You must have been so happy that night! I can't wait for more news about SC and know you will be right on top of it WDW! And your SC scan from the mag is everywhere now...I love seeing your website address right there!

I hate to even bring up the very bad LAOD news for UK fans and am only doing so to be able to tell the great Brit Jake fans here that we real fans understand how you must feel and we don't blame you for being upset. Wish there was more we could say or do to help but Hollywood is going to do what they want no matter what any of us say. :-(

Finally up to today's post...I love the straw hat and those arms in these behind the scenes photos (but you know that already because we discussed it this morning)!! And the Lego video is so funny. That set they are using is the same set I have set up on my shelf after bribing a couple of kids to put it together for me. One of those kids said he can do videos just like the one you posted here but he has yet to do so. Has he lost interest already?! Maybe I can spark his interest again after I make him watch PoP on Blu-Ray with me (not long now)!!

Well it's good to be back and I'm all caught up now and it feels good! Have a great rest of the weekend all! :-)

Great WDW, but as for me I'll 'suffer' through the DVD. I don't have the moola for a blu-ray player.

But I'm sure there will be plenty of screencaps made from the extras

and I loved the lego clip. I'm going to send it to a neighbor who is into lego. They have a couple of the POP sets.

I love love love Lego Dastan! That video was great!

On the topic of Jake saying he isn't a good dancer, did anyone see the video of him in Moscow dancing with a bunch of girls? I don't dare find it again and post it, as I thought it was a huge violation of his privacy. I just saw the caption, "Jake dancing" or something. He's cute when he dances. The end :)

Good Sunday morning everyone!
WDW, I'm happy for you to get blu-ray.
In Poland we have POP on DVD/Blu-ray September 10'. As I read - on blu-ray is one extra, unused scene. They call it "Heads on trays". So please let us know - what is all about.
The pictures with stray hats - I like very much. Blue T-shirt, biceps and lovely face, of course. But I like also the way they all look together in those hats, like a bunch of people liking each other. They look like they are really together, together. I suppose they had a lot of fun on the set and became quite close.
Tiffany, I saw Jake dancing in Moscow. It was incredibly cute and funny for me - the way he was dancing and a situation. He was dancing alone between many Russian women. I wonder - did he go alone there, it's strange. He's very brave to let himself to be between all those hungry women.:)
Does he always go to night clubs, when he goes to other countries to make movie promotion?

Mermon, I do like your comments! I second the question, does he often go to nightclubs when abroad? I also wonder (un-connectedly) how good Jake's french is?
Reminder to new blu ray buyers- beware, need very latest software to play latest blu ray releases!
Best advice is don't bother with blu ray tho'. Complete waste of time unless you have a screen the size of a wall.

TD - thank you for liking my comments! :)
Yesterday I watched first time in my life October Sky. I liked it. I had no idea that they had or maybe still have any coal mine in USA.
It's always amaze me how good actor Jake is, even in those first movies. He's naturally talented. It's something about him - whenever I see his movie - he's always the most visible person, even between famous actors. He's the one who attracts attention the most.
OS is very touching and teaching - to go after(follow) your dreams and feelings. In a way - like in BBM.

Mermon, I don't get the club-hoppin' vibe from Jake. I was actually surprised to see him dancing at that club with those girls. I thought it was super cute, but I felt bad for watching :( In my defense, I just thought it was some coverage from him in Moscow, you know, minus the spying!

I'm glad you finally got to see October Sky. It's one of my favorite movies. It always makes me hopeful. I just watched Rendition for the first time. All I can say is WHOA.

Morning everyone! Where has the sun gone :D

Hi there Tui! I hope you can get a DVD shipped over to you. That's great about Brothers! Looking forward to hearing what you think :D

Hey BBMISwear :-) Good to see you! That's interesting abbout Farragut North. I remember some of that from your account - it certainly all seemed like there had been some misunderstanding but hopefully there'll be another chance with another play.

I loved the lego video! People are so clever being able to do this - you must inspire your young friends and see what they can come up with!

Hi Sweetpea - I'm sure there will be :)

Hi Tiffany! Jake certainly has rhythm and he's very entertaining to watch. There have been sightings of Jake now and again through the years in nightclubs and he looks to me like he enjoys a good dance.

Hi there Mermon! One deleted scene isn't very much - I'm just hoping it actually features Jake in it! I do love the straw hats - the PoP set uniform. I do remember that video - it looked like part of the arranged entertainment after the premiere to me. I wonder if Jake went to any clubs in London...

Hi there TD! I know, I have worries my drive won't work at all but it won't matter too much - I'm looking forward to having the digital copy. Hmmm interesting about the French. I saw a little bit of an interview in which Jake apologised to a French interviewer that he wasn't able to understand them in French. I'll find the link - it was a snippet.

I'm so glad you enjoyed October Sky, Mermon - one of my favourite films of all time. Such a moving story and Jake just shines as the young lead. I do agree with what you say about him :)

Off out into the rain. Have a good Sunday!

Good afternoon!
Tiffany - As far as I know Jake, (which is not too much), I don't think he's a party animal, rather a family man. But I can be wrong. He seems to like dancing and I like the way he does it - a boyish way. :)
I'm happy for you that you enjoyed Rendition. It's good that some of us still have some old Jake' movies to be discovered. I think I have only one - Directors cut - Donnie Darko. I know first version, I love it.
WDW, if you could find this video with stray hats from POP set - it would be great! I didn't see it.

Jake likes to go to concerts.
After party things when called for. I think his "clubing" is going out to restaurants and spending a lot of time on the meal, etc.
Not that maybe he has gone now and then but it hasn't seemed to be a regular thing for him.
An ex-girlfriend was the club goer.
Possibly one of the reason the "ex" is on there.

Hi Tiffany! So glad you saw Rendition - Jake is so hot there :D

Hey Mermon - the straw hat scene is on the DVD. Hopefully we'll all see it soon one way or the other.

Hi KC - I absolutely disagree with the inference that clubbing is something evil and that it would
be a reason why someone would be labelled 'ex'. We don't know Jake - we have no idea how much or how little he goes to clubs. We are hardly in a position to make moral judgements. How does liking clubbing equal 'ex'? It's not evil, you know!

Good to see you all - I'm back now after a wonderful evening in a champagne bar with Jaking friends.

Anonymous said...

No where did i say clubbing was "evil". I didn't say it because I never think of it in that way. I don't know where that came from.
Just have always felt that was not a large part of his life because never got the impression it was that was all. If he was seen at clubs every weekend I wouldn't think anything of it..other than that's where he went.
Was mentioning Kirsten and she liked to go to clubs a lot it seems and after the break-up there were always pictures of her out somewhere.
Hasn't he said he likes cooking for people and being with friends and family.
KC

mermon said...

Yes, I read some gossips, that Kirsten need for parties was the reason they broke up. But who knows how it was for real?
WDW, good for you! Evening with champagne and Jaking friends. Jaking - does that mean - liking Jake or something else? :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Sorry for the double post - my BBerry is useless for posting comments...

Hi KC - it was this line: 'An ex-girlfriend was the club goer.
Possibly one of the reason the "ex" is on there.'
This sounds like a judgement to me.

Plenty of Jake fans have it in for Kirsten, which is like a red flag to me. I'm a huge fan of her's so I'm super sensitive :D Also, I don't think cooking, spending time with friends and clubbing are mutually exclusive. Just my opinion. We don't have to agree :)

Hey Mermon! We certainly don't know and we won't know as these things are private and none of our business.

Yeah! Jaking is a fabulous activity amongst Jake friends. IO was out today with Ruby, Anouska, Winterbird and Mr Ruby - it was wonderful! We toasted Jake and other absent Jake friends :)

winterbird said...

Jaking is good for your health and makes you want to consume large amount of alcohol... Or maybe it's just the Jaking company? :) Thanks for the lovely time today, WDW, Ruby and Anouska! I'm gonna miss you all :). At least Jaking is also a global activity!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Great to see you Winterbird! And we will miss you as you move across the seas - but it's good to know that you'll be there as always at the other end of the internet xx

BBMISwear said...

I just want to add that I've been Jaking too and even did a little cyber-Jaking with the Brits while they were drinking champagne (and I have the picture to prove it) - ha ha! Ruby must post that beautiful champagne picture - I wish I was there to drink it for real instead of only virtually. :-(

hello WDW, thanks for the post...really reaaly love your writing style and all the quick update..:)
You're now my no.1 source bout the lovely Jake Gyllenhaal, love him so much..;D
Ummn, is that pic was from the DVD special feature: PoP behind the scene, cause that was exactly same with the bonus feature from the PoP DVD that I recently got?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi BBMISwear :-) We wished you were with us too - hopefully some day very soon...

Hi there Serene Hill! Thank you so, so much! And thanks for telling me. That picture is from the behind the scenes feature on the DVD - I can't wait to see it. Play.com are packing my DVD as we speak - I wish they'd hurry up!

Serene Hill said...

yess...that means that I get the right DVD..haha..:D
Hope you'll get yours as soon as possible, cause PoP just simply gets better and more awesome everytime I watch it ;)
Thanks for the answers WDW, and I really like your profile pic...
