[Updated] New LAOD image... Jake Gyllenhaal in NYU Q&A for Love and Other Drugs tonight and Bruce Willis on Jake - he's one to watch

[Updated] Jake Gyllenhaal in Love and Other Drugs. I can say no more.... Source with thanks to Lady Ekster for the heads up.

On with the post...

Tonight, if you're a card carrying member of NYU, you can see Love and Other Drugs for free and then put your questions to Jake Gyllenhaal and Ed Zwick. It's playing at the 'Regal E-Walk, 247 West 42nd Street' at 7pm. This tells us two things - 1) Jake is indeed back in NYC (let's hope he brought the razor back with him) and 2) Love and Other Drugs is having a rather unconventional release.

Last week, students at NYU could have seen Love and Other Drugs for free and just a cursory sweep of the net reveals a myriad of screenings across the US. After news of the gala scheduled for the opening night of the prestigious AFI Fest on 4 November we then heard that the 'premiere' would then take place tomorrow night in NYC at the CMJ music and film festival. But both events have been preceded by a bunch of Q&As and screenings of one type or another and one has to wonder if the US premiere of Love and Other Drugs will have that special sparkle of magic dust that we expect when we hear the word 'premiere'. I also wonder what the CMJ organisers will think knowing that the film is getting a starry screening and Q&A at NYU tonight, just one day ahead of its own big event.

Talking of premieres, Red was centre stage in Leicester Square, London, last night and, apart from praising National Treasure Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis picked Jake Gyllenhaal as one of the younger stars to watch and to trust. Jake and Justin Timberlake. They're 'tough', Bruce said in a John McClane kind of voice. You can see the moment here.

Of course, Jake and Bruce are tennis buddies...

Viva Gwynneth!

I know that I've been slightly critical of Ms GP in recent posts (well, in recent years, to be honest) and so, in order to try and make some amends (but not too many) it seems only right to mention the credit that Jake paid to Gwynnie at the Elle tribute for Brokeback Mountain: 'It was the experience of watching Gwyneth dressed as a young boy that immediately lead me to sign onto Brokeback Mountain.'

Thanks to IHJ for the pictures. The Jake and Bruce pics are from the 2009 US Open.

Wow. Is that a cross-eyed Jake in that last pic? Pretty unique I'd say. :-D

So once again he's back in NYC... I agree, what a strange way to have a movie premiered. Especially one that has so much buzz surrounding it. Not to mention I want to see Jake in a tux! Anne in a to-die-for dress! Glamour! Publicity! Red carpet pics and interviews! Hey Hollywood people, this is my and my co-PoP-made-me-a-Gyllenhaalic people's first time to experience a Jake premiere as a fan of his! Don't do this to us! Not this way!

Well, that's enough exclamation marks. I think I've made my point. ;-)

Hey AM! I'm metaphorically packing as we speak :D

Hi Lady Ekster! You're right! Jake does look cross-eyed in that pic... and hot.

I think we'll see a glamorous premiere somewhere with the tuxedo and Anne looking stunning but I'm starting to wonder if that'll not be in NYC but at the LA event and in London. Obviously in the UK there's nothing but the premiere. That's quite a thought - I forget that some fans are post-PoP! Premiere time is fantastic!!! Mind you, I'm still recovering from those weeks in May... :D

cool so the trip to LA was a short one. I think he likes to hang in NY a lot (too bad I left NY :( )

I can't wait to hear more from this event. I just hope the face pet doesn't make a reappearance.

how about we make a road trip to NYC? :D

Thanks for the update WDW. :)

Was the question, what young up and coming action stars Bruce Willis likes? If so, Jake and Justin Timberlake are interesting choices.

Looking forward to read about the Q & A tonight. :)

Hi!
New picture - great!
For me all those LAOD screenings all over States are strange strategy. Of course some people were lucky to watch it so soon. But then the magic of premiere and first impressions are almost gone. But we will see. Maybe this strategy will win box office. People heared a lot about movie, maybe missed screening in their city and will go for sure for movie to the theatre when the big time will come.Let just hope so.

Actually I don't mind. Those screening reviews make waiting till February just a little bit easier.

NightFly said...

I hope he travels to germany in the next time ;). It´s to late, to take a flight to NYC... this night...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I totally agree, TD :D

Hi Mermon! It is good to hear reports from screenings but I do think it removes something of the glamour of the premiere and I do think that's a shame. I think lowkey screenings, a premiere and then Q&As would be good but then maybe that wouldn't work either.

Hi there Nightfly! And welcome! Very pleased to see you, do come back :)

Okay, people. That first pic is...droolworthy! I think I sense a Gyllencreation coming on! Stay tuned!!

You took the words right out of my mouth WDW - ha ha! (About the screenings, festivals, etc. - Our email chats are always fun)!

As for that LAOD photo:
1) *THUD*
2) If everyone here likes this photo then you are going to absolutely LOVE watching Jake in Love and Other Drugs. Trust me on this one.
3) *THUD*

Love those old photos from the tennis match - remember us all going nuts for those photos? (And I watched a lot of the Tennis Channel that week - ha ha)!

I like what Bruce Willis had to say but not so much what Jake had to say about BBM and GP (I know it was a joke so will cut him some slack)!

I understand what people are saying about the screenings and premieres and as someone who got to see an early screening it definitely doesn't take a thing away from a real premiere - these advanced screenings are just screenings (but oh so wonderful to see - it helps with the waiting indeed). When a Q&A is added (like the one at NYU happening within the hour!) it makes it very special but still just a screening with the talent staying a bit longer. I think we'll get our super-duper red carpet Jake and Anne all dressed up soon enough. In the meantime how nice would it be to get to be at this damn Q&A tonight, huh?! *envious*

Great stuff WDW - and more to come I'm sure - get ready!!

:-)

Sorry. I got distracted by the glimpse of the chest hair in those old tennis pics!

Need to reread the post again :)

Sorry to say it but the Bruce Willis comment was not a sincere comment or it was meant to be funny. Did you see Bruce trying to keep a straight face? And then the after thought of Justin Timberlake. Even the interviewer knew Bruce was not being serious. There is no way anyone serious about acting would speak of Jake Gyllenhaal and Justin Timberlake in the same breath.

Morning everyone! Beautiful day but a thick frost...

Morning BBMISwear :-) I am so glad you got to that screening nd OMG just look at him in that pic!! It does seem weird though, how it's being released in the US like this, bit by bit. But then it is such a big country.

I can't believe those tennis pics were so long ago now! I love them.

Jake was interviewed by TV yesterday so let hope we hear about that soon!

Gyllenhaalisgr8, I love what you did with that pic!

Morning Winterbird! They're such sexy pics. easier for the photographer having Jake and Bruce in the same shot :D

Hi 04:27! I know that but it's funny!

Hi 07:52 thanks for the link - it's a great site. Although I should point out Stephanie is not connected to this FB tribute :)

Have a great day everyone! Is it Friday yet...?

I have never seen the tennis pics before...drooling...

May I ask why you dislike Gwyneth so much, WDW? I am fairly new to the blog, so I think I've missed out quite a bit on the reasons why! :D I haven't seen Proof yet.

I have just recently watched Bubble Boy via Netflix, and I must say, I thought it was ridiculously hilarious! I also just watched The Good Girl via Netflix as well, and that movie was so incredibly sad! Jake was wonderful as Holden. What a tortured soul :( I have to point out something I thought was hilarious...when Holden called Justine a hooker after he caught her with another. Hooker has to be one of my most favorite terms ever. I'm strange, I know. And no one probably cares about my rambling at this point!

Anyway, loooooooove the pics ;D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

H everyone! Really stressed out at work today but got a quick post up with the Q&A lovely vids and Jeff's review. Great stuff.

No time to chat unfortunately but just wanted to say to Tiffany that if you read the post before this one there's a link to my orignal Proof post. I like a couple of GP's movies but there was no chemistry between herslef and Jake in Proof. Also I saw her interviewed in person and I didn't take to her :)

I have fond memories of Gwynneth in "Sylvia." As an actress, she's anything but generic. If she chooses her roles wisely, she'll do well. But maybe I'm an odd duck. I like Susan Sarandon precisely because she can play characters who can be real b*tches, and not just in an evil villainess way. Why must actresses always be beautiful and likable? The people you see in real life aren't always likable, are they?

Justin Timberlake has shocked some of his fans by hinting that he might not write and perform music much in the future. He seems serious about his acting career. He is in "Social Network," and does quite a good job. If he grows into a good actor, that would be a good thing, wouldn't it?

I'm delighted that such eminent critics are so positive about "Love and other Drugs." I can hardly wait to see it!
