Jake Gyllenhaal is, you may have noticed, quite a foodie. So much so, anyone else who ate out that much would be wider than they are tall. It's only appropriate then that Jake should be involved with a food charity. Last night, the Edible Schoolyard hosted a private dinner in New York City with chef Alice Waters as guest of honour. And there at the head of the menu is a particularly tasty morsel - Jake Gyllenhaal.
For $1000, diners not only drank cocktails for a good cause, their appetite was given a boost by mingling with Jake Gyllenhaal. Very fortunately, a tweeter at the party captured an image of Jake and Alice Waters (a longtime heroine of his) together. Many thanks to Julie. As you can see, Jake also brought the Face Pet along but it was very well behaved and even looks like it may have had a trim.
Shalom Jake
The DVDs are now being released bit by bit for Shalom Sesame. Jake is one of several well known faces to appear in the series, which introduces children to Jewish culture and Israel. I'm not sure yet which episode will feature Jake - not one of the first to be released - but, in the meantime, we have a taster. Last seen in the Street with an octopus stuck on his head, we now get another look at Jake as he was then. In one of the scenes - and you won't be surprised - Jake appears to be chewing.
A very attractive make romantic
Last not seen naked on the Love and Other Drugs poster, Ed Zwick has been talking some more about his much anticipated movie. 'Part of my job is to be aware of what actors are out there and what they're doing, look at their work. I'd seen Annie do Jonathan Demme's movie ("Rachel Getting Married") and I'd seen her do Shakespeare in the Park, and she was really fantastic and brave and ambitious artistically. And Jake had done this movie a friend of mine wrote called "Jarhead," and I'd seen his work before that. I got to know him a little bit and realized that to know him was to have (witnessed) something that movie audiences hadn't necessarily seen, which is the depth of his charm and his humor and this very attractive male romantic... and I felt, "Oh hey, you know what? I'm going to show that to people." Because it's there.'
You can read much more here.
You will not believe it...
...But Mills and Boon readers think Simon Cowell is sexier than Jake and Gyllenhaal and Johnny Depp and that Jeremy Clarkson is only slightly down the hot list than Jake! 'The mega-rich X Factor supremo secured 17% of the vote among swooning females who named him as their ultimate hero in a Mills And Boon book. Simon edged ahead of actors Johnny Depp and Jake Gyllenhaal, who each secured 12%, while Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson came fourth with 10%.' I know, I didn't believe it either but you can read the whole sorry tale here.
Jake and Kathryn Bigelow
Variety reported today: 'After "The Hurt Locker," it's not surprising that actors want to work with Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal on their next project, but even for jaded Hollywood, the roster of actors they've been meeting with is impressive. Will Smith, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Christian Bale, Javier Bardem and Jake Gyllenhaal have either asked Bigelow and Boal for a look at the script or taken meetings to discuss the film.' I have to say, it's hardly surprising.
But it's good to know Jake's hungry for a good script.

Cannot BELIEVE the Simon Cowell vs Jake Gyllenhaal thing... WHAT THE HELL?! Jake is obviously SO more attractive...
Jake on the menu... I'd order that ;)
Hi there Aoife! I know, incredible eh?! Me too :) With chips...
I'm in love with Shalom Sesame Jake, he's freaking adorable! :)
British women think Simon Cowell would make a better lead in a romantic novel than Jake or Johnny Depp?!?! Romantic is just about the last word I would associate with Simon Cowell!
Since you don't drink chicken broth, maybe you should have what my dad calls " une ponce ". It's warm gin with lemon juice and honey and it's totally vegetarian. Very good against colds. :)
Olympia
He really is, Olympia! I think that's British Mills and Boon women - it just shows that Mills and Boon heroes must be er.... ugly.
I'd love 'une ponce' right ow sounds lovely! Over here it would be a 'Whisky Mac' (Single malt, Crabbies Ginger wine and hot water) :D Actually, I'm making do with Irish whiskey and steaming rice pudding. And a bunch of pillows, a duvet and Autumnwatch on the TV :)
I agree with you WDW, it does look like the 'pet' got a trim..........thank God. Now if only we could have it gone all together.
Call me crazy but I'm loving the pic from the fancy dinner. That Face Pet is super well behaved. And the owner looks so very yummy in that shot.
I promise I will tear my eyes apart from that sight in an hour or two and will concentrate on the rest of the post. I really want to see the Shalom Sesame clip. And I will... But for now... well... I'll keep staring at that pic. OMG.
Thanks, WDW. You provide the most delicious food for my soul. ;-)
A fresh picture! And in a suit, hurray! I love him in a suit or tux, it even makes The Bear look good. Sort of. Ish.
"In one of the scenes - and you won't be surprised - Jake appears to be chewing." LOL. I imagine he hardly does any talking these days, as it's very impolite to talk while eating.
WHAT?! Simon Cowell sexier than Jake? In what parallel universe is that happening?! It's not really an honour to finish just ahead of Jezza either. Although I'd love to see Jake and the TG3 on screen together - keep dreaming, keep dreaming.
He is so cute and hot in the photos of the event.
I saw this video yesterday and thought it so cute eating Matza.
Sorry, but I have no idea who's Simon Cowell.
The charity dinner sounds very nice. :)
Hi WDW and y'all,
Sorry, long comment before I burrow down for the day. I'm just so excited by this charity news!!!
Gosh milady... toxic huh? That doesn't sound too good. Make yourself a good grog, turn in and sweat it out. Don't worry about us. We'll survive (I think). Focus on getting well!
OMG! That Edible Schoolyard project is exactly the kind of thing I'd love to see Jake do much, much more of. He would be such a great ambassador to teach kids about healthy food and sustainable living. Hmm... I wonder if Jake has seen or read Colin Beavan's "No Impact Man" (http://noimpactman.typepad.com/).
I read the book and took part in the "No Impact Project" (http://noimpactproject.org/). A serious challenge and a real eye-opener. Give it a go!
It will definitely change your life...
I'm still trying to keep it up, but I have to admit, it's not easy without the help and support of passionate, like-minded people. We did get a community garden going, and it is thriving! (i.e. turning into a bit of an edible wilderness - we're taking over all the rose beds ;-).
One of my favourite charities is "OzHarvest Food Rescue" (www.ozharvest.org). They collect excess food from function centres, caterers, corporate offices, restaurants, cafes and tourist operators and redistribute it amongst charities. There must be something similar in the US...
More Jake with kids and food and charity and sustainability... YES, YES, YES and YES!!!
Ed Zwick has clearly developed a serious man-crush on our Jakey - "the depth of his charm and his humor and this very attractive male romantic" - Too cute! ;-)
ooo! I'm likin' the Face Pet now that it has been tamed! Yay Jake! :D
I am very happy Jake did his part for charity. And it does look like the face pet got trimmed a bit. Maybe the next step will be a very close shave.
Thanks WDW. Are they only releasing Shalom Sesame on DVD or is it going to be broadcast

omg I'm so glad to be back ... need to catch up ... my internet went broke on monday afternoon ... now it is -hopefully- back to stay...
I hated it ... I dont want to miss a thing ;)
so much to read ...
Just wanted to say hi and gonna (hopefully) be back on in the afternoon to read thru all this
First, thanks, WDW, for dayly post, great!! I can't keep staring that new pics, hot but a little serious. Simon, not incredible, impossible
Hello! Thanks to everyone for the comments - I've loved reading them while lying around not doing very much. In bed with flu. Sorry for not being able to chat with you all but you're doing me a lot of good xx
Love the new pics - I'll do a quick post to get those up :)
I'll have to keep an eye our for "No Impact Man," Lemniscate. Next year I want to plant a vegetable garden, but I don't want to totally displace the flowering plants. Bees need the flowers, or there won't be enough of them to pollinate the vegetable gardens.
Anything that blooms throughout the season (even petunias or calibrachoa) will help, as bumblebees like them. Squash or gourds might be a good compromise.
I just had a wicked thought: remember the "Love and Other Drugs" poster where Jake has his hand over his mouth? Maybe he's hiding.....a beard! ;-)
Hey Paul,
Hiding a his beard, indeed. ;-)
I must admit, when I first read "No Impact Man" it did seem a bit too extreme, but it's surprising how much of it is doable. It's all about changing our bad habits and living consciously, mindfully and not being so darn wasteful.
In our community garden we do a lot of companion planting to help control pests and bring in the pollinators. Here's a link to a great list, but you'll need to localise yours, I guess.

My Sunday mornings are usually spent pottering away in the garden. Very therapeutic and a great way to meet amazing, like-minded people!
Just read in the latest post from WDW that Jake also buys local and seasonal and gets most stuff from a local co-op. He's also into the locavore/SLOW lifestyle! OMG! Uh, there we go again... Another big scoop of *I love Jake Gyllenhaal* on my already oversized coupe d'amour. I'm doomed to be alone for the rest of my life! No other could ever come close to this seemingly perfect blend of a man... He makes me put the bar too high. Way too high... Fudge!
Jake's Shalom Sesame episode is about Passover, which is in the Spring---perhaps the DVDs are being released in the same order as the Jewish holidays?
Oy---I'd never kick him out of bed for eating Matzah!
Hi Paul and Lemniscate!
Welcome Irisgirl! (Lovely name - the iris is my favourite flower). And thanks for the info! That's great to know.
