Kissing Jake Gyllenhaal - 'Occasionally, I've been into it. I won't talk about with whom' and it's all about chemistry

Jake Gyllenhaal may have seduced the lucky attendees of the New Yorker Festival on Saturday night but there was a presence in that room that sought to push Jake into the shadows while seizing the limelight and centre stage for itself. It was noticed by all but none dared to speak of it; no questions were asked about it and yet many an answer was sought. Jake's Beard. Hot on the heels (or should that be chin?) of the WDW Should Jake Shave Poll, the Washington Post has now done its own poll, in which you can vote for the relative hotness of Jake's Beard. If you ever wanted to call Jake's Beard confusing, now is your chance.

While we have yet to get the full details of Saturday's Q&A, more teasers come our way, including a lengthier snippet of Jake's discussion about movie snogging [Please note that I have corrected the spelling of Jake's surname - Not good, NBC!]: 'It's inevitably uncomfortable," Gyllenhaal said. "It's inevitably awkward. And everybody's in on it. No matter how intimate it is, everybody's in on it. Occasionally, I've been into it. I won't talk about with whom." Gyllenhaal, joined on stage by film critic David Denby and director of his latest film "Love & Other Drugs" Ed Zwick, said it's hard to get hot and heavy when there's a crew watching.'

Lucky crew...

So, with whom was Jake into it? What do you think? I have my own favourite Jake love scenes, thinking Brokeback and looking ahead to Love and Other Drugs, and I wonder if Jake is referring to Anne and to Jen and maybe to Ellen? Possibly not with Gwyneth.

Love and Other Drugs has a page in the brand new November issue of Empire, which is great news because it sticks with the 29 December date! Ed Zwick has this to say about Jake and Anne Hathaway: 'When you see what they have together, that is the heart and soul of the movie... Chemistry is an elusive thing, in real life as in movies, but you do know it when you see it.'

I'm adding this video here for no other reason than that it's funny and I just watched it again.

Back to Jake's Beard.

So where is Jake now? Having no doubt celebrated Ramona's birthday yesterday with an exorbitant amount of jelly, trifle and PoP lego, one person, located in Boston, had this to say: 'best thing about my day.... saw Jake Gyllenhall. Worst thing about my day....almost stepped on a rat.' I must say that I would agree with both.

And finally...

53 years ago today, Sputnik launched and so began the Space Age. And so it makes me think of Jake and his portrayal of Homer Hickam. Jake even made an astronaut cry with his portrayal of a boy's dreams to look starwards.

Hmm, the kiss...I think he's talking about Jenn. He's said it before that she was his best on-screen kiss.

I can't wait for LAOD!

Carol said...

I agree that it's Jen although I think there's a possibility that he could be referring Ellen aswell.

I think he looks quite into it with Anne!

I knew I'd have an issue with that chin, just didn't think it would be obscured for so long and by all this fur! I'm so sorry, I guess I should never have mentioned it - Providence must have overheard me!

Exciting post!

Hi Tiffany! I like Jenn kissing Jake. She has my permission to kiss Jake for me :D

Hey Carol - there was some incredible chemistry with Ellen :)

So, TD, it's all your fault then that Jake's so furry? But he is looking very cuddly, so I'll let you off! I'm big like that... Gad you liked it!

Hi Silver! I really liked that interview! There were so many back in May and they're all on the site but some just got lost and this is so funny!

He really was into it with Jen wasn't he? That's okay...

He's so lovely!

LOL! The Beard is Enewsworthy and they agree with me. :DD So does the Washington Post poll. By the way, that Enews clip is pure torture, look how good he looks without this abomination! They even included possibly my favorite Jake of all time, 2006 SAG awards Jake. He was breathtaking. *swoooon*.

The more I look at Saturday's pics, the more I think this was such a waste of amazing hair. Hide the bottom of his face with your hand and you'll see what I mean. If this is for a role, I'd really like to know what it is. I wouldn't like it any better but at least it would be for a reason I could apppreciate. :D

I forgot to say, Jake also has my blessing to kiss Jen any time he wants. I really like them together, they have amazing chemistry.

But I still think no one had more chemistry with Jake than Heath. I love what he said about the reunion kiss: "It was about more than just kissing.(...)We were the instruments for something that was much bigger than both of us." :)

Olympia

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I absolutely agree, Olympia, that was stonking chemistry with Heath :) Amazing, and what an incredible thing to say.

The hair is rather lovely - kind of how it was when it was growing for PoP. I do wonder what is on the cards!

TD said...

Olympia, (and Jake), well said. That certainly turned out to be true.

When he says things like that, I can't help loving him a little bit more. :)

I seem to be burbling forever tonight...

I love the fact that when Jake's finally ready to be taken 'less seriously' he grows a beard; but its the reverse for most other Hollywood A listers eg Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt etc - All those others who needed hair to add a bit of 'gravitas' ;D

Jake dont need the help of hair.
TD

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey there TD and Olympia :) Jake most definitely doesn't need the hair for gravitas. He is unique and wonderful.

Burbling is good :)

WDW - thank you for the post. it was full of many interesting things again.
For me also - the biggest chemistry was with Heath. I have goose skin watching them together, I'm still not able to think about Jack and Ennis as about gays. I just treat them as two people in love. And those Jake's words about filming kissing scenes with Heath were great.
I went into your old post about October Sky from 2007. It was so interesting. I discovered there old interviews with Jake. He was so intelligent, deep and funny being 17.
The story about his name and great great Swedish father was interesting.
And I like Jake's answer to that question "Are you single and what do you look for in a girlfriend?" :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Mermon! I'm so glad you took a look at that old post. It's one of my favourites - it meant a great deal to me as do all my October Sky posts as my family are coalminers. Thanks for reading it!

Iove to hear people talk about that Brokeback chemistry:)

Darling Bluebell said...

I'd go for Jen and Ellen. Jen because he himself said so and Ellen because he thought she was so beautiful. :)

I love that photo of young Jake with Homer Hickham. Utterly adorable. If I compare that pic with the smoking look in the video (the T4 one, that is :-P), I'm sure he'll grow even more beautiful with age, inside and outside.

I don't like that there is nothing between 'a little too much' and 'disfiguring' on the poll. It's more than a little too much if you ask me, but disfiguring? Seriously, Washington Post? We're talking the hottest guy on the planet here, hello-o! *big grin*

paulh said...

I thought the beard was "a fine specimen" in the Washington Post poll. Too much? Not really. Disfiguring? No way! Confusing? Not particularly. Jake did a good job of growing the beard and trimming it, and deserves credit.

I remember when I grew a mustache for the first time. My father ordered me to shave it off, and I refused. If you order people around, you often make them do the opposite of what you want. :-(

I'd have to say a favorite one is Jake and Ellen's kisses in Moonlight Mile, and you even got great background music! I kinda liked Rendition's scenes too. ;)

But my very favorite kisses are between Jack and Ennis. :)

BBMISwear said...

Agreeing with the chemistry talk (especially when it comes to Jake and Heath). *sigh*

I wonder if that person who saw Jake (or thinks she saw Jake - there are plenty of people who screw that one up as we know!) was in NYC or Boston. Hmmmm. The last Red Sox game of the season was yesterday in Boston (let's not talk about how the season ended).

Still hoping for more info on the beard (movie role or just chillin')?!

Still wishing there will be a full transcript or video from Saturday night that pops up.

:-)

I think Jake is going to keep that to himself (who he was turned on by. But I can take my own guess as to who I think it might be or who I want it to be)

Thanks for showing OCt Sky the first movie I saw Jake in, I absolutely LOVE that movie

Based on the JG movies I've seen so far, the most intense, sizzling make-out chemistry was with Heath. And adding to that what we know about Ang Lee's subtle, minimalist directing style... The actors were pretty much left to their own devices - fumble and figure it out together guys.
I recall Jake mentioned in an interview somewhere, that an ex-girlfriend commented on the BBM love scenes: "you never did that to me".
It must be really odd doing/seeing these scenes... Just imagine.

Anonymous said...

It could be more than one.
I think the meeting with Ellen weeks before they even knew they would be in the same movie showed he liked her.
Jennifer of course.
I think he'd said he and Heath just pushed their lips together or something like that. Of course they had great chemistry - the characters wouldn't of been believable if they didn't. But i don't think he "got involved" in the scenes that way.
It seems to me he has chemistry with most everyone he has worked with - the girl in "Rendition" even.
But just about everyone who films these scenes says they are aware of the people standing around and of course with lightning & how you film little bits at a time not the most condusive to getting as involved as you could.

While I haven't watched the entire BBM movie, well the ending anyway, I always felt the kissing scenes between Jake and Heath were not convincing. I felt genuine love and caring but yeah the kissing scenes needed help.

I think he probably meant his early love scenes when he had raging hormones, seems to be overtime actors get used to or find a way not to get excited over love scenes. Although the sex scene with his girlfriend in Jarhead against the wall was damn hot and I could see Jake getting carried away there.

Didn't Gemma say during an interview that Jake said no tongues but during a kissing scene she couldn't help herself?

Of course it could have been the love affair Jimmy was having with the baseball bat in Bubble Boy.

Jake had chemistry with many co-stars but one of the best with Heath. I think he'll have amazing chemistry with Anne Hathaway too.

I agree that he probably enjoyed kissing a little more when he was younger and he kissed some very beautiful actresses back then. He still does though.

My favourite kissing scene of Jake's is the second tent scene in BBM as of now. The sexy LAOD scenes with Anne could change that. ;)

Morning all! Another busy day....

Thanks for the comments! It'd be great if anonymous posters could pick a name, any name will do. It helps to keep the community spirit we have here :D

Hi Lady Ekster! I know, disfiguring? It's very intreesting comparing the young Jake with tody's Jake. What a man :)

Hey Paul - I voted for that too :) And definitely!

Hi 23:26 :)

Hi BBMISwear :-) I'll try not to mention the Red Sox... :D I wonder if Jake was in Boston - I always like to think of him there.

I love it too, Sweetpea :)

Evenin Lemniscate! I just can't imagine it. It must be so odd and then so odd to see them.

Hi 01:55 - I agree, I think Jake has chemistry with just about everyone (excluding Gwyneth) and I thought Ellen and Jen just sizzled with Jake. I think Anne will do the same in LAOD. Jake and Heath were just hot!

Hi 04:22 - and who could blame Gemma? :D I think the kissing in BBM really reflected how Jack and Ennis felt about each other. It wasn't like any other love.

Hey JF! I don't think you need write Jake off just yet! At 29 he's got plenty of years of kissing beautiful actresses to come :D It is a fact that you don't grow out of kissing :D

Agreed about those kissing scenes :) I'd add the MMile kisses.

What a lovely subject - I'm ready to face the day now :D Have a good one!

Morning everybody! I couldn't watch the E-News vid yesterday so I did now. So The Beard even made it to a tv item... wowsa.

While reading all the kissing comments (a very nice subject indeed for a clouded, rainy day like this ;)) I thought: what about the kiss with Natalie in Brothers? They've been friends for years and I recall reading that Natalie thought there should have been more between Tommy and Grace than just a kiss.
I know Brothers scored both high and low on our top ten lists the other day. As my #3 I love the movie and would certainly not have minded a bit more action. ;)

I don't if this movie review was already mentioned. But, here is Ted Casablanca of Eonline's review:

Woo Hoo! Jake Finally Gets It Right With New Movie!

If you were worried that the sandy residue of Prince of Persia would stay lodged in your Jake Gyllenhaal-loving brain forever, then get ready to forget the hunk ever starred in that disaster of an action flick.

We recently saw Love and Other Drugs—Jake's latest flick that hits theatres next month—and it's good...really good. And while the movie made us completely forget Jake's recent box-office blunder, could it earn him a second Oscar nom?

Eh, probably not.

Though, that's not to say Jake wasn't fantastic in the role—have we made that clear yet, 'cause we're more than happy to say it half a dozen more times.

In fact, we have to say we're relieved, because the part is everything we've been telling J.G. to play: funny, boyishly charming and sincere (something that's been lacking from his recent trips to the big screen and tabloid persona).

Hell, nice boy Jake playing a total womanizer was even perfect! Come to think of it, his chemistry with costar Anne Hathaway is some of the hottest we've seen of late—and definitely the most sizzlin' from Jakey (including his offscreen chem with broads like Reese Witherspoon).

And when the material gets heavier, he busts out those acting chops we knew he had all along. He's back to that old-school emotional stuff he does so well and which we've been dying to see again.

Consider us giddy with Gyllenhaal glee.

All signs point upward if this movie is any indication of Jake's projects to come. We knew the guy had a good head on his shoulders.

Oh, and the fact that he's naked a good portion of the film didn't hurt either. We'll definitely be getting in line and shelling out our hard-earned bucks to take another peak at his tush...and abs...and arms...well, let's just say we'll be seeing the movie again.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Lady Ekster! I would have loved more Jake/Natalie kissing - that would have pushed the film further up my list!

Hi Jen - thanks for the link. It's probably better just to post the link and let people go to that rather than include the whole article as well. Thanks :)

Scary thoughts:
Do you think its possible that even people here underestimate Jake as an actor?

Jake uses that line about being 'most beautiful' to a lot of his girls.

Voting for 'a fine specimen' is the same as saying 'dont shave'.

Thanks for the review! :) Ugh, I don't like it one bit though. It has bankability written all over it. 'get ready to forget the hunk ever starred in that disaster of an action flick'... No way I'll ever want to forget PoP. :)

Back on the NY topic: looks like Xanne's videos have made it onto PopSugar: http://links.visibli.com/links/418b01 :)

Hi TD :D Jake is a flirt and he's good at it - he's also, as you say, a bloody good actor. And hot :D

I don't like it either, Lady Ekster... and I don't like the tone. I love my PoP!

I'm gonna think about kissing jake again... :)

Hi everybody...

@mermon ... couldnt you pls also add what he answered about the girlfriend Q ...
could everyone pls do that - not only writing the Q but also the A (it's just nicer and easier for everyone to keep up incl those not knowing every interview - IMHO)

The bear: it grows on me everyday (again not literally) ... but I love me Jake better clean or stubbled ;)

Jake and kissing??? I don't know which I like best - but I guess the brothers kiss with Natalie comes close more so because I like those forbidden ones ;)

Others ??? I don't know ... maybe LAOD will show the "perfect kiss". Gonna wait for that.

WDW for that teeny weeny hints I will try to get something more out but I have to be carefull - maybe me being paranoid - but I don't want to ruin anything for anyone included those working there by posting something on the internet.

Sasha said...

oh and let me add: there is just something about the brothers-kiss with Natalie that I can't put my finger on ...

Lol nice finally I really have WORD as WORDverification > unten ( a german word but a word)

The best kiss for me is in Brokeback. The chemistry between him and Heath is unforgettable. One of the best.
I like both the kisses, but the snitt is my favorite. The fear of Ennis, Jake leaving him relax, hand on face ... sigh.
Just thinking, I get tears in my eyes.

All those gestures were of pure love!

I agree that that comment about POP was rude and unjust. Even if someone doesn't like adventure movies - they should appreciate how well it was done and played, how good music was etc. I'm very upset about this comment. That's one of my favourite movies.
Sasha :) I didn't put Jake's answer because it was in WDW post about October Sky - she gave the link in this last post. But I will put it now for you because it's lovely. Jake was so young answering that question. 17, I think.
"Are you single and what do you look for in a girlfriend?"
Jake: "Yes, I'm single. Oh God, someone who's witty, someone who challenges me, kicks my butt sometimes. And someone who respects my life and my work and who I respect in the same way. When it happens, it happens, and I'll probably be blown away by who the person is anyway."
