Love and Other Drugs: 'not all rainbows and butterflies'. Inside account from the CMJ screening

Although we had those wonderful pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal and Ed Zwick posing outside the theatre for the CMJ screening last week, there was very little from inside. But thanks to Queenie Darleen, who sat just across from Jake and yet had a steady hand for photographs, we have an account with photos. Many thanks to Queenie for permission to post the very fine picture below. You can read the full account and see more photos at Queenie's site.

Here's Queenie's view of the film: 'Love and Other Drugs is not a typical romantic comedy, in fact, Jake and Ed said they like to call it an Emotional Comedy because there’s drama, and it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. There’s a lot of funny scenes but there’s sad ones as well— I cried. There’s a lot of nudity and the role of women is very different.' Thank you very much for sharing, Queenie!

Hysteria

Maggie Gyllenhaal's new project continues to grow with some new names added. This is another example of a film in which Maggie (and Jake) appear as the sole American amongst a cast of well-established British actors. Gemma Jones, for example, is an actress I spent my Saturday evenings watching as a small child. She was the Duchess of Duke Street long before she was relegated to Harry Potter's nurse.

Thanks to Queenie for the photo!

I saw RED today and thoroughly enjoyed it. You can read my review at MovieBrit!

Thanks, Queenie.
Oh, Maggie. A few minutes ago I was thinking about her after reading some sightings;)

I love you, Maggie!

I remember of Graham Norton interviewing Heath. I don't remember what movie he was promoting, but I know he had some fun moments. Yes, the presenter is boring, but Heath saved the interview.

Hey, tomorrow will be my graduation party. Finally!! hehe

Congratulations Monica!

I'm hoping to put more of the interview up on YouTube this week - there's an awful lot of Graham Norton whom I can't stand and the other two guests whom I also can't stand... Maggie did very well! Added some real glamour.

I love Queenie's pictures!

Great to see more from the Q&A the other night...thank you WDW and Queenie! And congrats Monica...a graduation party? Are we all invited?! :-)

What a great story from Maggie about dancing with Madonna...thank you so much for including that clip!

I've now watched those MTV.com clips quite a few times. Great stuff...but of course they leave me wanting more. I wish we had the whole thing from start to finish on video *tries not to act greedy but can't help it sometimes*

Looking forward to more great LAOD stuff to come! Until next time...

:-)

This is OT, but something that needs to be seen. It's the dreaded merkin (do NOT confuse it with a gerkin)...

Thanks Queenie and thanks WDW! :-) Kudos for the quality of the pictures; I doubt I could hold a camera up if Jake was 3 feet away from me.

Congratulations Monica! :-)

So the Tool Shed even has its own magazine, gyllenhaalisgr8?! *lol*

Hi~~~WDW
I also found another early review
http://leahshore.wordpress.com/2010/10/25/cmj-all-the-way/

She loves it!!!
But she also mentioned the promotion of LAOD was somewhat unimpressive...
After brothers and POP, I really don't trust the promotion of studio, either.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks, Queenie and WDW. Yes, Hui, maybe word of mouth is a better method of promotion than what the studios can pull together. It seems to be working for LAOD.

I was in NYC for the very first time Saturday. Sadly, we didn't spot Jake, but we knew that was a long shot. The best spotting we did was of Robert Downey, Jr. -- on a billboard for Due Date in Times Square. Oh, and we walked past the public library which was very faithfully recreated in The Day After Tomorrow.

Is Graham Norton a very popular comedian? I've only seen a few clips on YouTube.

BTW, WDW, I read your wonderful review of RED and it captured my feelings exactly. Can't wait for you to see Hereafter so I can read your thoughts on it.
*reluctantly turns attention back to work*

Hi there Tui!

Waves to Lady Ekster!

That's a great link, Hui! Thanks so much :D

Hi Susan :) I'm not very impressed by the way the studio is handling LAOD - even the official twitter can't spell Jake's name. I do agree that word of mouth may well do the trick. As for over here - not a sausage.

Norton is popular with some but I can't stand him. He usually does more risque chatshows on a different channel but he had to tame it down for BBC1.

I'm so glad you liked the RED review - what a fab movie. I don't know Hereafter :)

Hi,

Maggie is so charming, remember her telling the Madonna story on a another show... Can't remember which

Hope to see more clips of Maggie on the show

And I admit it - I do think Graham Norton is funny, maybe cause I've only seen him on some short clips on youtube:-)

Jake is dating Taylor Swift, I just can't get over the creepy feeling i get, I'm done with Jake and his career.

I REALLY hope that isn't true. More power to Jake for dating a younger woman (maybe thats what he needs) but Taylor wouldn't be my first choice for him. She seems so fake, like the whole good girl shit is just a cover (same goes for Selena Gomez). I understand she could truly be a good role model but it just seems like part of it is fake. I'm not 100% sure a 20 year old could really be THAT innocent.

This has nothing to do with her and Jake but I REALLY hate how she doesn't sing in her songs! She's an amazing song writer but never sings the darn songs. :(

Ok, I'm not going to hate on her anymore because thats just mean.

karmentxu said...

With this girl??? and that has to believe it? a month ago I was with another.... they invent a lot, best forgotten, besides, no matter

Hui, thanks for the link, another review of the film, I love, speaks great about the movie. We must consider that there is still a month for the premiere, wait a bit for the promotion.

mermon said...

Hahaha. Taylor has recorded new disk, Jake has new movie to promote. I think those rumours maybe helpful for both of them :)

I just read that Jake and Taylor Swift have been seen out together more than once! I think my heart just stopped. Thud!

Gyllenhaalisgr8, is that a good "thud" or a bad "thud" ? Try not to hurt yourself, it's still just a rumor. :D

She's definitely not my choice for him but maybe she'll convince Jake to shave the last remnants of his beard? :D

OMG! The very first Jake vid I ever made was to "You Belong With Me", by Taylor Swift! Please don't blame me!!

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

Bad thud. Very bad thud.

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

OMG OMG!! What if Taylor is Jake's date for the Premiere??

Abby14 said...

To be honest, I think this is all BS. Taylor is in NYC right now promoting her album. When celebs are in NYC promoting something (a movie, album, ect.) they are followed every time they step out of their hotel. Taylor is a big star therefore she'd be followed even more. So yeah the whole strolling around NYC to me is BS.

Abby14 said...

@ gyllenhaalisgr8

If she is I think I'll like cry myself to sleep lol.

Apparently, she has a habit of writing songs (not nice ones)about her exes. That would make me nervous if I was her boyfriend. :D

Hello!

This may be a good time to remind all newcomers here that there is a no gossip rule on WDW. I understand the temptation to chat about these things - and I have my own feelings too - but, in my experience, there's nothing like gossip to cause trouble in the fandom. One reason why WDW has lasted so long is that these times come and go and they've not been the subject of discussion here.

I have no objection to people discussing this in the forum, none at all, but I would appreciate keeping gossip and speculation away from the blog. After all, we're talking gossip here. Nothing else.

Thank you!

Abby14 said...

@Olympia

I know, it seems like that is ALL her songs are about. Sorry but she has had like a million boyfriends. That doesn't exactly scream "innocent" or "good role model" to me. Just sayin.....

Abby14 said...

Oh, sorry WDW.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, WDW. Thanks for reminding us about the forum. :)

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

If there is an actual sighting, an actual confirmation, does that elevate this subject out of the realm of gossip and into news or not? I just want to understand. Thanks!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

There has never been discussion here about Jake's personal life. There are pictures when there are pictures but there isn't commentary because, in my experience, it's rarely pleasant and I'd prefer that to stay elsewhere. There are only two rules on WDW - politeness to everyone (including Jake and any possible partners) and no gossip :) There's a reason why there are no trolls here and there's a lovely atmosphere :) That matters more to me than what GossipSugar says.

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

Thanks for the heads-up; I'm kinda new to this blog!

gyllenhaalisgr8 - just come to our forum for more discutions in many subjects. It's very nice there:)

WDW, even though gossiping is so tempting, I like your attitude towards it. It really shows YOU are true fan :)

I just heard Anne Hathaway will promote Love and Other Drugs on the Jay Leno show on November 4th. I truly hope Oprah Winfrey embraces the movie , and invites Jake and Anne to her show -so they can help promote the hell out of LAOD. That will be bliss !!

jen said...

Also, I would love for Jake, Anne, and Ed Zwick to discuss LAOD on Charlie Rose's PBS program. Mr. Rose gives the best American indepth celebrity interviews and a very critical analysis of movies. I truly hope Fox knows what they are doing with the marketing of this film.

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

I hope Ellen has Jake on in November! They have so much fun together, and I don't think he's promoted on there since...Jarhead? I could be having a senior moment, but the vids of that show are hilarious!

Just got back from a party that made me cry for several moments. It was all very fun and exciting.

Thanks to all congratulations.

I love your attitude about gossip. I have my thoughts about it and hope that Maggie will save him. hehehe

Have a great day.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning all! What a night... Thanks again so much to you all for your hugely appreciated consideration and for helping to look after the place last night. Thanks Lucia :)

That's great news about Anne being on Leno, Jen! I do hope Jake and Anne do some shows together.

I hope Jake is on Elle too, Gyllenhaalisgr8!

I'm glad you had such a wonderful party, Monica. You deserve it after all that hard work.

Have a good day everyone!

karmentxu said...

No gossiping, only the truth, I like this web for this reason. As I said, over a month for the premiere, interviews will be in those days, I guess ... is better.

Thank you Jen for this link. It was so many details in this article. Wow! It sounds really great.
"But the energy of the cast and a dive into an unfamiliar world make the movie rather addictive" -

I like that. I'm ready for this addiction :)

I hope Jake is on Ellen too. They have so much fun. When he was promoting POP her show had gone on summer hiatus.
