Doug Liman's Unnamed Moon Project may still be good to go!

If you're a card-carrying member of the I Love SciFi club like me and have a huge need in life to see Jake Gyllenhaal in Space, then there is a hint of some good news today. Although, rather ironically as it happens, there have been fears that Doug Liman's Unnamed Moon Project may have been scuppered by Duncan Jones' Moon, which in turn led to Jake's forthcoming movie Source Code, which in itself may have caused some serious damage to the chances of UMP taking off, perhaps the stars may align favourably after all.

When Doug Liman was interviewed by Coming Soon for his new film Fair Game, Doug revealed that All You Need is Kill is just one of two movies that he is currently working on, with either one due to happen next. The other one is the Unnamed Moon Project: 'both of them are in budgeting and both have small, early crews on them'.

After all the effort that Doug has put into his Moon Project over the years, with Jake as a producer, as he has revealed to his Ninja blog, it is great news to hear that it may still be on the way to the launchpad and not the scrapheap. And if it does make it, we can be assured Doug will tell us all about it.

And finally...

Today marked the beginning of National Novel Writing Month - NaNoWriMo. Rather alarmingly I have signed up for the task of writing 60,000 words in 30 days. So if you see any plot bunnies out there, think of me... I will chart my progress on the front page.

Great news!! :-D

And I still don't know the meaning of "plot bunnies". Heard it many times, specially in the last year, but I don't know the exact definition. Googling right now... :-)

Good luck with the writing, WDW. And please forgive Jake in advance: you know the boy can be distracting. ;-)

If the movie falls through, I've got some space Jake could fill!

Ooooh that's fantastic news!! This means I can start crossing my fingers & toes again. :-D

Good luck on the writing, WDW! Inspiration can be quite a b*tch, she comes and goes whenever she wants to and cannot be summoned. ;-)
I have found that my inspiration often comes in weird, quick dreams the last minutes/seconds before waking up. If I'm lucky enough to remember the dream, I always try to write down the details before I forget them. :-)

Thank would be great news. But would Jake also be starring in it or just be the producer. It's interesting that he wants to add producing to his resume. I would love to see him direct a movie too

Thanks for giving us the latest. I just wish we knew what his next project is

Hi Alejandra! And thank you - gonna be tough...

Plot Bunnies... hmm. Just some plot ideas that'll help things bounce along. I'm going to need a lot of them!

I don't know what to say to that, Gyllenhaalisgr8!

Thanks Lady Ekster! I'm similar - I get very vivid dreams myself. I find it easier to write the older I get though. Maybe I worry less.

Thanks for the info, Twitter - I love Big Sur! A gorgeous place. I had my best ever cup of tea there :D I like to think of Jake there.

Hi Sweetpea! Who knows? But as Jake is almost as tied to this as Doug, there's a good chance Jake would be producer and lead.

G'day Folks,

I sure hope UMP happens, cos I have a soft spot for sci-fi. ;-)

@WDW - Best of luck! Keepin' my fingers crossed...

G'day Lemniscate! Me too - this film is the one I've been most keen for out of any of the prospective projects. I love scifi and I want to see Jake in it!

Thanks! It's going to be quite a slog. But it'll be good for me.

Hi!
WDW you can do it!
You've been writing more than that in the time I've been following your blog. ;o)

It seems LAOD will open here 7th January 2011. One week later than in the UK. Can't wait, can't wait.....

kudos on the NANOWRIMO project. been tinkering with the idea myself, but never seem to have the guts/energy to follow thru.

Hey apparently the LAOD trailer is running on TV in the USA.

Who do you sign up with if you plan to write a novel in November, WDW? I get several plot ideas every day, and I turn them into 5-sentence short short stories. I've written hundreds of them, and they're online at a BBC site.

As for "Unnamed Moon Project," here's a fun factoid about the Moon: it smells like gunpowder.

LAOD trailer was on "Dancing With The Stars" tonight which is usually the #1 rated show of the week.

Good morning everyone!

Thanks Eureka! And that is excellent news - I'm so glad there's a date t last :D

Thank you Mermon!

It's not too late 19:09 :D Thank you! It's not going to be easy but I'm lucky that I have a good friend also doing it so he'll spur me on.

Hi 1:18 - that's good news. I hope it shows over here at some time.

Hi Paul! I know how you love to write - it's such a good thing to do. I signed up with nanowrimo.org. You can search for me there - I'm listed as WDWKate.

Yes, but it tastes like cheese :)

That's excellent 01:54!

Have a good day everyone!

Great news about your writing project, WDW! You make me feel guilty.

Glad to know Liman is still on board with making the UMP with Jake.

The movie you were referring to on your front page is Fair Game. It is Doug Liman's movie about the outing of former CIA agent, Valerie Plame.

It stars Naomi Watts, and Sean Penn. It has been getting good buzz and there may be some awards season attention to it.

I've seen previews for "Fair Game." It sounds like a good movie about a disgraceful episode in the country's history.

WDW, you could go all the way back to Aristotle's Unities and write about events that take 24 hours to happen (think Virginia Woolf in "Mrs. Dalloway"). Or, decide which of the six story lines that every story follows is the best fit for you. There's the odyssey, in which a character trieas to return home--perhaps a soldier after a war (think "Brothers")--
or New person comes to town and changes people's lives ("Brokeback Mountain" is about *two* new people coming to the mountain and changing each other's lives)... Your story can be character-driven, or plot-driven (i.e. melodramatic), but in either case you'll move faster if you write about things you know. And good luck! :-)

HI WDW, good news, hope UMP would progress further.. Jake is the producer? I'm quite surprised, it's great, Jake starting to spread his wings.. Hope he will play as the lead too, would be great to watch.
Sci-fi has always been an interesting genre for me, I couldn't wait for Source Code, it must be awesome.
Thanks for the post WDW!!! And success on your writing!

One more helpful hint, and then I'll get off your case: Frank was definitely a plot bunny in "Donny Darko". ;-)

Hello!

What a day... Decided that I had to scrap Day 1 of Nano - so starting all over again with a different story and I have to say, Paul, you've been big help - you made me stop and think :)

My friend was watching a movie on the FX channel and said they had a rather long feature on L&OD. She fast forwarded through it! WTF??

The movie opens on Wednesday instead of Friday. I figure I can go Wed. thru Sun. as I have a lot of friends who want to see it (thanks to moi)! I hope the paramedics will be standing by!
