This may well turn out to be Love and Other Drugs week but let us not forget Source Code. Thanks to director Duncan Jones we learn that work still continues on the film and today Jake Gyllenhaal has been in the studio, possibly putting his last touches to the film. 'Getting close to finishing Source Code now... Hopefully we are doing the last chunk of ADR [automated dialogue replacement] with Jake today. Effects keep rolling in.' Next stop, our cinema screens. I cannot wait. Many thanks for the headsup!
Jake's Esquire UK hits the British newsagents on Thursday - I have this on excellent authority: my own local newsagent. In the meantime, PoPSugar has given us a glimpse of some of the pictures along with extracts of the interview. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that these photos are... odd. If I didn't know better I'd say the photographer was given half an hour and there was a handy puddle nearby.
Some snippets thanks to PoPSugar: "We [Jake and Anne] talked about what we thought was sexy, about what were the things that interested us, and through the discussion became pretty intimate with each other." "Annie and I had already had sex on film (in Brokeback Mountain). There’s something about the way Annie and I both work which is inherently very musical. It's all about rhythm. There's a rhythm to writing, there's a rhythm to sports, there's a rhythm to sex." "Annie, because as a woman I think it's harder. She said at one point, 'Well, we're both topless and we both show our butts.' And I was like, 'Hmm, but it's a little different for you.'"
On Maggie: "I admire her and continue to admire her. That might play into the reason I don't have much of a problem letting the women I've worked with shine. I love women."And his friendship with Annie: "I feel like she's a comrade. The thing about Anne is that she develops her characters in absolute detail. To the point where she went down to the Lower East Side to buy fluorescent bras for her character. I knew Annie could f**king kill it." "I was naked a lot in the movie. I was naked in more of it than was even in the final cut. A director's cut? I don't even know how that would be rated."
'On where he is most at ease: "I think comedy. That's why I loved working with Robert Downey Jr (on Zodiac). He and I had this similar kind of working. His energy is a bit more frenetic than but in terms of work, we meshed."'
Orange Wednesday's Rising Star
Orange Wednesday is a bit of an institution in the UK. If you're on the Orange network you can text a number and you get two cinema tickets for the price of one on a Wednesday. It also nominates a Rising Star for the BAFTAs. I'm delighted to say that Peter Sarsgaard is on the jury this year. He is in London at the moment while Maggie films Hysteria and it's wonderful that he's doing such good work for young cinema while he's here.
You can see Peter's interview here:

I get a Alfred Nobel feeling from these jake images. Perhaps Maggie and Jake will host the Norweigan Nobel peace prize concert!
Hi Sophia and welcome! I get more of a 'singing in the rain' vibe myself :D
Haha, singing in the rain! Was Jake preparing for a musical during this shoot, perhaps? *angelic smile*
Odd is exactly the right word imo. Maybe it's the Face Pet that still bothers me but it doesn't look like... Jake. Have to say I love the long coat, though! Looks very good on him. :-)
Good news about Source Code!
I was naked in more of it than was even in the final cut. A director's cut? I don't even know how that would be rated.
Who cares about the rating? Now that you've mentioned it, we want it!!
Hi!
What strange photos. With the beard and jumping puddles?
The interview sounds promising. What can I said he had me with "I love women". ;o)
Hi!
Hahaha, those pictures are so funny! Our Jake is full of surprises:) And look at his face, he had fun doing them. What a weird conception. He looks good in those clothes.
Jake likes to talk about sex :) He does it very naturally (at ease). Lovely situation with him and Anne, preparing for a movie in the delightful conversations.
"It's all about rhythm. There's a rhythm to writing, there's a rhythm to sports, there's a rhythm to sex." - I have to memorize that. This is great.
WDW - think about rhythm, when you write your new story:)
"I was naked a lot in the movie. I was naked in more of it than was even in the final cut." - I'm looking forward to see some behind scenes, if Jake says so!
"I love women" - Oh, Jake, we love you too! :)
I wonder if I can bye this Esquire magazine in Poland? I hope so.
Me again.
Super, great post WDW, thank you.
I love the Esquire pics! And I love what Jake had to say in the interview.
I have seen two LAOD commercials. It was great to see them!
Good to hear about Peter.
Have been dealing with the flu...so all the Gyllen-news helps.
I loved the pics! Goofy Jake makes my day. But of course, if he feels sexy I can tune in to that quite easily. Just keep the pics coming. :-)
So he had to work today. That's good news. Can't wait for LAOD, SC and need to know what his next project will be. We'll hear about it soon, I hope.
Thanks for explaining "plot bunnies" to me, Kate. I'd say that's a nice starting point: calling "ideas" something fancier to get them rolling... or hopping.
Last thing, Jake: women everywhere love you back. xo
I haven't forgotten Source Code. I can't wait to see it. I love action/adventure edge of your seat type of movies (just no horror or gore)
we really don't know yet what it's about. But that parts of it take place on a train intrigue me. I love trains and prefer train travel to air (well when it's practical. Just can't leave the continent on a train unless it can travel underwater)
I think comedy is definitely Jake's forte. I am anxious to see LAOD. I've seen commercials for it yesterday and am getting psyched.
I hope one day he and Maggie will do a movie again.
sweetpea
Hi Lady Ekster! I do like the coat but I'm not sure that these are the kind of photos I like of Jake these days they remind me too much of some of the early dodgy ones. I loved the last 'mystery photoshoot'.
hey Eureka! I'm looking forward to seeing more of the interview when it's out later this week.
Hi Mermon! It is a lovely suit. And thank you!
I'm so sorry to hear you're unwell. Get Real :( Do look after yourself. I'm glad Jake's helping.
I do agree, Alejandra! I really, really want to know what's next. It's driving me crazy!
Hi Sweetpea - it's great that the commercials are about - I hope we get them here too soon :)
"Early dodgy ones"... you must be referring to those crazy pics I enjoy so much. Always wondered, who was he trying to appeal to with those? And then I see they worked fantastically for me.
Brought me good luck too, saving them. I'll tell you all one day. :-)
G'day Folks,
Another great post during such a busy schedule. Hats off to you WDW! (I'm totally swamped at the moment.)
I find the pics very funny because he wasn't quite "in the zone" - if you know what I mean. I'm also not so sure that they wanted him so splash in that puddle. ;-)
That Esquire article is going to be fantastic. Some great new GyllenSpeak quotes already. All his talk about rhythm and music reminded me of a quote from Anaïs Nin: "The body is an instrument which only gives off music when it is used as a body. Always an orchestra, and just as music traverses walls, so sensuality traverses the body and reaches up to ecstasy."
@mermon - Yes, Jake is very open and relaxed to discussing sex. I admire that. Reminds me of his commentary on Donnie Darko regarding the masturbation scene - "I am a sexual being" - "I'm glad they didn't cut that out". And he went on about some nonsense CGI thing that I didn't quite get. (But talk about love, now there's another matter entirely...).
@LadyEkster - We wan't that director's cut! (Especially considering Ed Zwick seems so enamored with Jake... He might find it difficult to "cut him out". ;-)
Jake's full bushy beard apparently has influenced this years Christmas toys. I saw a "Big Foot" remote control figure (rather large size) in the American retailer Target. It even has Jake's eyebrows but bigger feet (barely). Like I said it has a remote control, I wonder if the Jake model has a remote control.
I think I may buy it for my nephew (hoping he gets bored and gives it back).
G'day Folks,
Just a quickie.
That pose on the cover of Esquire is so peculiar... It's a typical gesture of tension or anxiety when a man fiddles with his cuffs (or cufflinks, or the buttons on his jacket) especially when he's put in the "spotlight" - arms across his body, to give himself a sense of security. However, his facial expression and the slight lean forward does make it look "idiosyncratic". Something's "off". And of course, depends on whether he was directed to do that or not. (Agree with WDW. This does seem like a "quick 'n dirty", "go with the flow" photo-shoot though.)
How adorable does Jake look in those Esquire pics?! I could almost cozy up to that Persian rug should it ever reappear (and we know it will)! Sometimes (sometimes?) this man is so insanely beautiful that it is too much for the heart to bear
Good morning everyone!
Ooh that sounds intriguing, Alejandra :D But yes, I'm not so keen on those early pics with strange poses!
Thanks, Lemniscate! Things are so chaotic for me at the moment but I'm doing my best to keep up :D Looking forward to Esquire coming out, hopefully tomorrow. I'm not keen on the splashing pics inside but I do find the cover rather interesting :D
H big Foot Christmas! Love the sound of that:D He could play with my Dastan lego!
I do agree, Gyllenhaalisgr8 - Jake requires large hearts :)
Have a good day everyone!
aw it made me sad when Peter said "i never had a very big break."
he so deserves one.
Can't wait for you to post the article from Esquire and looking forward so much to LAOD! Then there will be great anticipation for Source Code! As a sci-fi fan I have great expectations about that one.
Susan
He wants to work with Michelle Williams! awwww
My dream to see these two together in a movie!
I look forward to reading your comments about the article, wet dark!
Oh Jakey is now the internet joke of the year. I hope LAOD does great box office because is reputation has taken a beating in the USA the last couple of weeks.
I know you don't want to hear it but he's done.
Hi WDW, I think the pics are a little bit odd too, haha...
Good to see Peter after so long
I just check Jake Weird blog, and it got the Esquire magz scan on today post
Thanks for the post WDW!!
I know you don't want to hear it but he's done.
Oh puh-lease. Are you living your entire life on the internet, being judgmental and browsing from one trash website to the next? Maybe you could remember there is a real world in which a couple of lousy, constantly-copying-each-other gossip websites don't exactly rule the place.
(Sorry WDW, couldn't resist. Please feel free to delete my comment if it's too much ;))
What? He became a joke on the Internet just because he was buying ice cream with his girlfriend? And also because he spent the weekend at a beautiful place and held her hand in the pool? What did they want? That the two were having sex in the pool? And having sex in the bathroom of an ice cream parlor?
I'm not happy to see him with her, but where's the romance of the people?
I know, I was angry with him all these days, I'm still disappointed, but I love Jake Gyllenhaal. I love this guy!
Premiere in Sidney:
LOve And Other Drugs
Blimey! What a day! Thanks for all the comments - very nice to catch up with you all after such a day.
I felt that too, Gretchen :) I think Peter is a great actor - one of the finest.
Hi Susan - the new post is up!
Waves to Serene Hill :)
No worries, Lady Ekster - some people think gossip matters more than movies... Can't get that myself.
Hi Monica! And it's a vast improvement on the yucky sex in a plane toilet story... Thanks for the link! I think that means that it may be a link up with London, like the last time. We shall see! And it
I agree, WDW. Peter Sarsgaard is a very fine actor. He is one of the reasons why I love going to see movies week in and week out. He's done a great job in every movie that I've seen him in. "The Orphan," "Year of the Dog," "Flightplan"--he raises the level of every film that he acts in.
