After all the new stills for Love and Other Drugs over the last few days, it's a pleasure to have one of the first for Source Code, courtesy of the film's Facebook site. There is also what looks like an official poster, which isn't quite what I was expecting.
One of Jake Gyllenhaal's Source Code co-stars, Jeffrey Wright has been interviewed about his Broadway play 'A Free Man of Colour'. It includes a question on Source Code: 'Q: I recently saw the trailer for your upcoming movie Source Code, which is directed by Duncan Jones, whose dad, David Bowie, starred with you in Basquiat. Did he have anything to do with this upcoming collaboration? JW: You’re asking if David is now my agent? [Laughs.] I had met Duncan some years ago, I think at a birthday party for his dad. So that factored into it as well. But moreover, it was this compelling vision that he brought to Moon, which is what drew me in. It was his work, not his father’s, although I have the highest regard for his dad.'
Sydney
Another interview with Jake from Sydney has been published, this time in the Sydney Morning Herald, complete with a stonking picture of Jake. And I quote... ."I don't consider this movie to be a light movie," he says. "There are comedic aspects but it's also romantic, moving and complicated... [Hathaway's] character helps make it more revealing about the pharmaceutical sales world," Gyllenhaal says. "The pharmaceutical representatives sell this idea of health that is much more about business and sales. There is something a little cold and cut off about that.".
'"I think it deals with Parkinson's very seriously but in life there can sometimes be comedy in the saddest events," Gyllenhaal says. "To me, movies that acknowledge that are the most courageous."
'"I spent a lot of time with Jamie and he had some funny stories and some disturbing ones about the things people do to create sales," he says. "These are the kind of things that happen when you mix the issue of someone's health with making a quota". Despite this research, Love and Other Drugs is less severe on the drug industry than Reidy's book. Some critics have suggested the film is a free publicity kick for Viagra. Not so, Gyllenhaal says. "I don't think those criticisms of the pharmaceutical industry were softened," he says. "What happened was we decided it was a love story and the comment became more about love... I don't think there's an avoidance of the drug issues but it's not blatantly political. What it's about is comparing real love with the drug. It's asking what really turns you on... The love story was fascinating in relation to this drug that is supposed to create intimacy."'
'"He's enormously funny," Zwick says in the film's publicity material. "[His] sense of humour is nothing new to those who've known him socially but up to now we've never quite had the opportunity to see that on film." The actor relished the opportunity to try something different. "A lot of the movies I loved watching as a kid had that heightened sense of humour – things like Bringing Up Baby and Spencer Tracy's movies," he says. "Comedy is something I very much like to do... I'm interested in telling interesting stories that I respond to. It's not like I only want to tell one type of story. It's strange that people believe it's only when you do a serious movie that you are getting your teeth into something. That's a rather simple way of looking at the process. Comedy is not an easy thing to do."'

Five years on
Tomorrow, 11 December, LA's Autry Museum is celebrating a significant anniversary - five years of Brokeback Mountain. Over the coming days and weeks, many of us will be having our five year anniversary with this film and I couldn't agree more with this statement from NBC Los Angeles:
'Important films come down the pike often, and we stand back or get close and we admire and then they pass on their way, only to return now and then in the clips segment of the Oscars or on various critics' top ten lists or as cultural references in other films. Then there's a movie like "Brokeback Mountain," which became less of a two-hour experience for many people and more of a significant signpost that shifted their thinking, and even their journey, outside of the theater in which they saw the film.'
I am one of many whose life was profoundly altered by that 'significant signpost' half a decade ago. I have no doubt that if it hadn't have been for that 'two-hour experience' back in January 2006, my life and the people in it would be very different today. It has affected each and every day. Every day that I write here about Jake and his movies, or write elsewhere inspired by my love for film, it is a direct result of those two hours. And when I set out on an adventure - whether it includes Jake or not - and when I share a meal and time with my friends - it is a direct result of those two hours.
So thank you to Jake, Heath, Anne, Michelle, Annie and Ang and absolutely everyone who created something astonishing with those two hours. And to Jack and Ennis.

hello! :D
aww what a beautiful post WDW!
Jake's picture speaks for itself! gorgeous!
and what can I say about BBM?
I'm so proud to be a fan :)
hope you're having a good time
it's just so cold over here :)
Hi WDW,
I've been absent for a while.
Then it is definitely a BBM 7 months anniversary for me. It was thanks to that movie that I discovered Jake your blog and all the nice people commenting here and at the forum.
I'm loving it!
For me it has been a kind of a dagger of time travel through your blog back to 2006.
And yes, I couldn't agree more with you on the Source Code poster. We need something more meaning full, or puzzling like LAOD was. ;o)
Thank you for including the BBM 5th year anniversary in this post. That movie certainly changed my life forever. And I've made some incredible friendship because of it
sweetpea
Thanks, WDW. Wow, five years of BBM. It was, indeed, a mind-opening and life-altering experience. It was such an emotional experience for me that I couldn't bear to watch it again until recently; I went through a box of tissue and grieved for Jack Twist all over again. Sometimes I think "BBM" means "Beautiful, Beautiful Movie."
Hopefully that Source Code poster is just preliminary and we'll be treated to something with more substance before long.
Susan
Hi!
That picture from SC is pretty. Jake actually looks like now, with his last hair cut, which I like a lot.
WOW! BBM 5th anniversary! This movie also changed my life. And the way I look at some things. I understand it more now. And I feel differently about being brave in love and fighting for it, if necessary. For me this is the most beautiful and touching movie ever, going together with Avatar or even slightly ahead. BBM is not ageing at all. I discovered it this June and is still so fresh like made recently.
@Susan - "BBM" means "Beautiful, Beautiful Movie." - I like that!
I'm watching right now Jumanji with my daughter on TV. I know that movie very well but I found out just now that 13 years old Kristen Dunst plays Judy in it. So Jumanji has connection with Jake :)
Thanks so much Linda! I felt quite emotional thinking back over these years and where I am now. I'm proud too :) It's cold here too!
Good to see you, Eureka! And there are more reasons for me to be thankful for BBM! I'm hoping that a better poster will turn up...
My pleasure, Sweetpea, and me too :)
I love that, Susan! It's been a while since I've seen it - a year, maybe more. It's kind of locked away but if I get a quiet time this month, I'd like to see it again :)
Hey there Mermon :) It's definitely timeless and the issues are as relevant as ever. I like Avatar very much but it's not even close for me. Kirsten was wonderful in Jumanji - such a good actress :)
"The question of identity, whether it's sexual or whatever, is what makes this movie so powerful. My own struggle with who I am, and who I am to other people, is hopefully interlaced with this character".
A quote from Jake that I found here in WDW. I don't think there's anything else for me to add. Except that these words remind me to be kind towards him every time.
Thank you for the reminder, WDW. Lovely post. :-)
Alejandra, I love that comment. And that is sound advice: be kind. I try (not always successfully) and live by that and it's good to be reminded of it and yes Jake deserves it too :)
I know, Kate. He's not always easy to understand. But I think, "I don't have to have an opinion right now, do I?". And that helps.
From the same interview, there's another great quote: "Somewhere in him, Jack has enough courage to say, 'let's try this. Let's take this risk, but I need you to take it with me. I can't do it alone'".
I know that whatever risks Jake wants to take, I'll try to support him and even help -if there's any way for me to do as much as that.
You are an inspiration in that sense, WDW. You're helping us to know more about Jake everyday. And we all have our limitations. So don't worry about that. ;-)
Thank you, Alejandra :)
Oh my. That last part of the post was so powerful. Thanks for sharing such a personal story, WDW. I sometimes wonder where our world would be without stories and storytellers and this is a fine example of that. Didn't the ancient Greeks used to value storytelling just as much as science? I remember reading something like that. Whatever it exactly was, I think it's very, very true. :)
Is anyone else wondering why Jake has no movies lined up after Source code?
Such beautiful words about BBM. Thanks for sharing them with us WDW. It certainly touched my heart and changed things for me too in ways I could never have imagined.
That poster for Source Code is more than a bit disappointing. Surely that has to be the initial one with the main ones being released closer to the release date.
Have no doubt Jake knows what his next movie(s) will be. Sometimes it takes a while to get things ready to be filmed.
Also do not doubt there are numerous scripts he has been reading.
Just saw where Johnny Depp got some not very good reviews for his new movie. Saying he didn't give a very good performance.
Think it will ruin his career? Naw..
Hi JF! I'm sure it'll come along soon. And knowing Jake's career the roles will be like buses and three will come ing at once!
Thanks so much Carol. It was emotional writing about it. It was good to think about it.
Agreed about the poster - surely that can't be the final one or it would be even worse than the PoP poster that Jake kept going on about!
Hi anon :) I'm very sure Jake will know what's next and no doubt he reads scripts all the time. Hopefully he is waiting for the right one. That Depp movie sounds terrible. But no it won't do him any harm. More damaging could be the endless Pirates movies.
Have a great day everyone! It's warmed up! Toasty 3 degrees.
Hi WDW..
Source Code poster? I'm really sure that one is a teaser...
I always love the way Jake talk about life, he doesn't like to be serious, but when he does, it's always worth hearing/reading. How he talk about his life, always being so humble and inspire me, his words show how strong he is.. I don't know how to say that feeling, I just simply amazed.
BBM is such a powerful story, they mean a lot to me and I really thank everyone that's invollved in it for bringing us such great story. I got a little teary when I read the comments from you guys especially Alejandra quote from the interview(could you please tell me here I can read it?) and to know how big Brokeback mean to you guys. Well thank you Jack and Ennis for everything. And I would Like to thank Brokeback for introducing me to Gyllenhaalism ;)
Thank you too WDW for bringing usour daily Jake everytime and with so much love and dedication.
