Jake Gyllenhaal and his Queen Amidala doll, Speedy Jake and congratulations to Gemma Arterton

"I first met Natalie at a Star Wars convention waiting in line for her to sign my Queen Amidala doll and I'm really hoping she wins the Oscar... Because if she does, then that doll is going to be worth a shitload of money!" And so Jake Gyllenhaal introduced Natalie Portman at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on 8 January. I'm particularly impressed because Jake could pronounce Amidala. Take a look at the videos below to see Jake presenting the award as well as being interviewed with and without Natalie about what the festival means to him and if he'll be at Natalie's baby shower.

Despite hailing Natalie as 'the Audrey Hepburn of our generation', she's not quite perfect 'She's a vegan, which makes it really frustrating when you're picking a place to eat.'

After causing some discussion at the Festival with his shoes (and button), there is further opportunity today to discuss Jake's footwear. Before heading down to Palm Springs, Jake went out for a run in LA with some nearly not there running shoes. No button issues this time, though.

Congratulations to Gemma!

The nominees were announced today for the BAFTA Orange Wednesday Rising Star Awards and it was great to see another co-star of Jake's get a nod - this time Gemma Arterton. To further add to the Jake connection, Peter Sarsgaard and Mike Newell were among the selection panel.

And finally...

Jake was also seen out and about at the Hollywood Farmer's Market.

Includes pictures from IHJ.

My review of Season of the Witch is now up at MovieBrit.

That really would be one heckuva valuable Queen Amadala doll! I can't stop laughing! Jake's stand-up comedy routine gets funnier with every awards show, doesn't it? :-) He looked like he had a great time.

Thanks for the clips, the links, and the photos, WDW.

I thank you too, WDW. I truly enjoyed all of this.

I suppose Jake liked Star Wars and a role Natalie Portman played in it, since he was standing in a line to get her autograph. And I'm glad because I enjoyed her playing Padmé Amidala and I heard that some people criticize her for that role.

I like Jake's running shoes :)

Congratulations to Gemma. Few days ago we had premiere of Tamara Drewe in Poland - I'm looking forward to see it.

Thank you so much for the clips, WDW. I really thought he was so funny when he mentioned the Queen Amadela doll.

I think he should do more comedy.

He looked great on his run, and like you said no button issues this time

Hi Susan! That was so funny! Just imagine Jake with the doll... Jake is great at these speeches. He gets funnier and funnier - he should definitely go back on the boards!

So glad you liked them Mermon! I think Jake was kidding but it was very funny. I have to admit that this role of Amadala is the reason I've had trouble enjoying Natalie as an actress but I have been won over now.

Do go and see Tamara Drewe - loved it!

Hi Sweetpea - he should definitely do more comedy :D

Jake looks great in the running pictures!

I've just done a review of Season of the Witch - which I saw for a dare! - over at MB.

Good Morning!
Thank you for the link anonymous. He was so funny. I just wish the sound quality was better.
And that Natalie's rap song was interesting :)
I didn't know her from that side.

Have a nice day everyone!

Morning everyone!

Thanks, Anon, for the link :D

Morning Mermon! U remember in the publicity for Brothers Jake teasing Natalie for her love of rap!

Have a good day!

mermon said...

No WDW, I don't remember that, maybe because I didn't know what he was talking about. It didn't last in my memory. So that means that this song was made before "Brothers"?

I loved Jake's slightly irreverent comments in presenting Natalie's award! They remind me of comments she made about him, too. ("Too bad he's ugly!")

The fact is these two human beings are as close to perfect as you can get! Two people who are both beautiful inside and out, who are intelligent, classy, talented...and kind. And they both have awesome eyebrows.

Hi WDW and all...
I came back from my vacation last Saturday, but has been so busy ever since, I can't find the time to visit, and yesterday I just started my first day coming back to school.. Aarghh...
Got my LAOD screening last Thursday... Woowee..
But honestly, my screening really couldn't be any worse, firstly, there in Singapore LAOD got M-18 rating, it mean that I was not legally allowed to watch it yet, so when I went to buy the tickets, the seller girl asked for my ID card and said that I was not allowed to watch the movie for I was under 18 years old. I was shock and so sad, that I literally cried at the mall, in front of everybody, and my tears flooding even more when I saw the poster right at the corner. Then I just simply lost my spirit for the day, fortunately, after we gave it another try at another theatre(I didn't go along when my sis bought the tickets), I was able to watch it, after sneaking in past the ticket collector..:p
Second, we got the seats on the second row from the front, you can imagine how uncomfortable it was, and to make it worse, there was no English subtitle, only Chinese(ironic, a Chinese who can't read Chinese..), so I just did my best to listen to what was said, but there were millions of lines that I still didn't really understand... I hope the DVD will come out fast.
Third, cause we got the latest screening for the day, we almost missed the last train to go back to the hotel, and my mom, who waited at the train station until almost midnight, was so mad that she didn't talk to me until the next morning.
But in the end, LAOD worth all the trouble that I had to went through, it's amazingly hilarious and beautifully touching. Jake was just simply charming, and Anne's gorgeous, and the chemistry was so huge.
The theatre was almost full, there was even people who sat on the frontest row. Everybody was laughing out loud at the funny bits, and my sis along with some other people were sniffling at the end of the movie, though she wouldn't admit that she cried.
I found the nudity quite surprising, no wonder it got such rating... But I couldn't find any part of the movie that I didn't like... And this one scene that really stuck on my mind was the one where Maggie broke down after she accidentally broke the glass, and then Jamie came back to the room and just hugged her right there.
I would definetely see LAOD again and I can't wait for the DVD!!!
Aaaahh...It feels so good to be back here...
It's great to see Jake's reunion with his co-stars this last few weeks. Congrats to Natalie for the award and the baby, she is really beautiful. And Congrats to Gemma too... And I'm looking forward for more videos to come...
Thanks for the posts WDW!!!

Sorry, due to technical error my comment was posted three times..:p
And I apologize if my comment is really long...
Ah...The running Jake is so sexy ;)

margot said...

Serene, your favorite scene in the film is my favorite scene too. Anne did such a great job in that scene and so did jake when he came back for her after he left.
I'm sorry you had a difficult time when seeing the film :(

So I just heard the Spin Doctors' song "Two Princes" on the radio just now and that's the very first song played in LAOD and it made me smile. I can't wait for this film on DVD.

Back home - phew! What a day...

Hi Mermon! I was referring to Natalie's love of rap in general, I must check out this video now I'm home!

Totally agree, 15:20! Love how you put that :D

Serene, you had an adventure and a half!! Loved reading that on the bus home :D I'm so glad you got to see it in the end and it was worth all the trouble. Hopefully when the DVD's out you can savour it more. I'm glad you're back!

Hi Margot :D I was trying to think what my favourite scene is - I think when she gets off the bus and asks if he's been there all night :) Hottest Jake moment for me is when he walks out of the backroom at the cafe after Maggie :) I wish there had been a soundtrack album...

mermon said...

@Serene Hill! - you really went through a lot of trouble because of LAOD. So I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I hope next time you will have a chance to understand everything :)

That's great, Mermon! LAOD is really doing well. It's a shame it's movie out of cinemas here already because I think it's got a lot of life left in it.
