Change the past, save the future - new Source Code poster
Here, thanks to Empire, is a first look at the new poster for Source Code. While it is undoubtedly a big improvement on the first one, which had more clutter in it than the boot of my car, I'm still not so sure. Source Code is bursting out of Jake Gyllenhaal's chest like some kind of alien ray gun blast. Do tell me in the comments what you think. You can also head over to ManMadeMovies where there is a Poster Poll. Do I want a poster more arty or do I want more Jake in it...? Dilemma.

I like this one much better. More Jake in it, is a good selling point.
But I still think they could do better. We will see....
Hi Eureka! I like this much better too - more Jake is never a bad thing. And I like the colours and most of it actually - just not that red and yellow bursting out of Jake's chest...

I still think there's something lacking from all the posters.
For this one, I think there is not enough thing to represent the movie..
If I have to choose one from all the 3 posters, I think I would pick the second one...
So I hope they will continue to make the perfect poster for the movie...

First impression: that's not Jake. And if it is Jake, it's a very photoshopped one.
Hmm... I'm not sure about it yet. It definitely draws more attention that the first poster, but from what we've seen so far I don't see a match between the colors of the poster and the color/feel of the movie. But it may just have to grow on me. ;-)
On the other hand: maholey those People pictures!!! Where is my drool bucket?!

this one is much better than the first one -and second, personally- but still, there's something that doesn't get me. If I wouldn't know WHY I want to see this movie and I just saw the poster, it wouldn't really invite me...
Hmm. They could get one of those People shoots and that's it. Mwahaha.
The new poster has only served to confuse me somewhat. Is there an element of The Incredible Hulk in "Source Code?" What is it that Jake's character is trying to bust out of?
I saw "Rango" last friday, and enjoyed it a lot. Al Molina is the main Jake link.
Totally agree with LadyEkster ... Too much Photoshop for my taste. There's no need to add such a great amount of filters just because they exist ...
I think it's better than the first one -I found it really amusing what Duncan said about the explosion at Kinko's- but now I get the idea that "something really dangerous is taking place in a Spa Resort" ... Maybe it's me but those little squares look like swimming pool tiles ...
Anyway isn't it great checking compulsively this place to be up to date on everything related to Jake?? Thanks a bunch!

About posters - I am not a fan of any. The last one is too blue, Jake looks like no Jake, and the squares like swimming pool's tiles, like @La Brullee just has said. It wouldn't bring me to the cinema either. But honestly saying, I don't pay too much attention to posters in general, so I don't care too much.

I like the new poster better than the first one as well. I also understand the comments about "swimming pool tiles" but that wasn't my first impression; it looks to me more like a representation of how space/time can flow along smoothly until something happens to cause chaos. I got the same vibe from the first poster, but that could be because I know what the premise of the movie is - he has to figure out all the bits and pieces of the puzzle and put things together in an orderly fashion to save the day.
The "Source Code" bursting out of Jake's chest looks like the train heading for the inevitable explosion and Jake appears to be chasing it. It's sci-fi. It's all open to interpretation. That's my two-cents worth for today.

I like this one a lot better, it shows off the context of the movie much better than the other two. AND we can see Jake's face much better than the first one

So good to see you all! I've been out watching Rango - very funny. Really interesting to read the different views of the poster. I do agree Jake is photoshopped on it, but then everyone is on all movie posters (just look at LAOD, for instance). Something I really agree on though is that this film has so much buzz the posters are almost irrelevant :)

I like the 3rd poster best so far but still think I would like something else. But I'll never be a fair judge as I'll always just want a huge picture of Jake - hee hee!

And that April Men's Journal cover - WOW! Finally a great cover photo on a U.S. magazine (it's been a while - I have not been a big fan of the last pictures GQ has chosen).
And I can hear some squuueeeeing coming from the UK with the *other* photo from Men's Journal (hee hee)!

Incidentally, End of Watch has been added to Jake's ProImdb page along with other films we've not heard anything about in quite a while (ie, Namath, UMP, Damn Yankees)!

I like the new poster a little bit more than the two before, but it's not what I would like to see as a poster for SC. I really think they should work on a better one (although I couldn't explain what I do expect) :-)

I reckon this one is an improvement but still not great. Aside from the basic visual trick of 'computer code is like a pixel which is a square' and that jacket of Colter's is not very cool etc - its a bit of a waste of space. To say nothing of the tag line which I would hope most sci fi fans worth their salt would find more a controversial impact in if it were reversed: 'change the past...[very anti-star trek teachings, shock, horror] save the future' is catchier, crazier and crueller. Having 'save the future' first is a little boring and predictable and hollywood.

Hey TD! I really have to agree - I am not at all keen on Colter's jacket. My grandad used to wear a very similar jacket when he went fishing in the 70s!

I just got back from seeing "The Adjustment Bureau," which starred Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. The only Jake link I could find was Danielle McKee, who was in "Zodiac" with Jake.
I'll have to go and see what WDW had to say about "Rango."

I find quite annoying that graphic design trend of insanely photoshopping every inch of a movie poster with people on it till the point that real photogenic people with AMAZING great physiques end up looking like sad, pathetic caricatures of themselves … I don't buy that "ideal perfection" that some creative minds try to sell us. I simply don't get it.
There's a lot of work behind a poster like the one they made for LAOD. Not only talking about the photo session elements such as make up, light, wardrobe -or lack of in this case :)- set design, etc … but also talking about the labour of digital retouch. They did a stunning work retouching the skin to give that healthy glow and amazing tone that looks so "natural" even though in my opinion they retouched a bit much for my taste Anne's eyes.
But I think it's a good poster, because you get an idea on what the movie is about and none of them look like cartoons with no soul. They keep their human resemblance even though you know that their physiques are only reserved for "demigods"! :)
Talking about Source Code poster, I think it's difficult for the ones who haven't heard about this movie to get an idea of what this movie is about by taking a look at that Jake's cartoon with what looks to me like a hounds tooth jacket and a gun trespassing a blue tiles tunnel (btw I found so amusing what LaBrulee said about something really serious taking place in a spa resort) and a train about to crash in his chest. The only thing that helps a bit is the tagline.
I love plots involving space/time warps, but using those blue tiles doesn't represent anything like that to me, honestly… I know it's a difficult concept to portray, but considering it was made back in '77 I like better that old Star Wars movie effect with the white rays symbolizing that the Millennium Falcon is entering the hyperspace! :D
I think it's sad that movie posters are not that important anymore. Now it's all about trailers and commercials … It's sad because I love them a lot and there used to be amazing artists creating what used to be considered a kinda piece of art. But nowadays a lot of them end up looking the same.

I love film posters - I get more from them than I do from TV spots (I'm not a fan of those) and some of them really are works of art. And when they get it wrong... It's also interesting thinking how and why a certain poster was made - such as how the BBM poster was inspired to some extent by the Titanic poster. Interesting stuff.

I had the feeling that you enjoyed posters as much as I do :D
I also prefer posters rather than tv spots, because they end up spoiling interesting parts of the movie. Some trailers are edited in a way that give confusing info to the viewer, who sometimes goes to the theater with certain expectations that -in most cases- can't be fulfilled and you go home thinking that the trailer looked much better than the movie
It's difficult to resist the temptation of watching a trailer because I want to sneak in advance the movies I'm willing to see, but sometimes I regret or at least I wish I hadn't seen some of the scenes that rest the surprise factor when you are watching the movie entirely…
Talking about LAOD knowing in advance that Maggie is going to undress and get naked in front in Jamie's brother spoiled a moment that even though it was funny it could've been funnier…too bad we only have a first impression once! :D
PS:I'm glad you brought to the table the connection between BBM and Titanic posters I had forgotten how brilliant it was made!

Hey Carlota! I do - and I totally agree about the scene where Maggie drops her coat. That left very little for the moment in the cinema. I still enjoyed it but I knew exactly what was coming. I like that with SC what we have has been controlled and limited.
