Glorious mud - Jake Gyllenhaal and Bear Grylls countdown as Jake's band Mumford and Sons play Glastonbury tonight

With Jake Gyllenhaal absent and with his favourite bands Mumford and Sons and U2 playing in The Swamp (aka Glastonbury) tonight, one can't help but fantasise that, as we speak, Jake is ensconced in a pair of floral wellies in front of the Pyramid Stage while chewing on a veggieburger. We are also, of course, well into the countdown to Jake's appearance on Man Vs Wild. And so it seems fitting to present here Bear Grylls' guide to surviving Glastonbury. If Jake has packed English mustard (and waders), he'll be fine.

Back to mud...

Jake was interviewed for Interview magazine back in 2007 by none other than David Fincher. Jake let slip 'If you put me in mud, you'd see how much fun I could have'. With any luck, David Ayer has read this because, if you're meaning a gritty LAPD drama, what could be more appropriate than a mud scene?

Of course, Jake has been muddy in a good cause before. In Bubble Boy, Jake gave the stuntman a day off, and dived into a mud pit for some wrestling with a couple of young ladies. This was slightly negated by Jake being in a bubble at the time.

Showing that Jake has mud on his mind, years earlier he revealed a certain dream: 'Last night I dreamt that I was at a crazy party in Central Park. There was a mud bath and no-one wanted to get in.' Their loss.

Of course, sometimes, it's not mud.

While we're thinking Bubble Boy...

Kate, what a BRILLIANT post! Love the photos and that interview scan is a real treat.

I can't shake the image of Jake in "floral wellies... chewing on a veggieburger"! :) Too bad he has to miss U2 and Mumford and Sons - but then so do I...*sigh* Actually, with all the talk of Jake enjoying Mumford and Sons, I bought their Sigh No More CD. It's awesome and I'm driving my coworkers crazy by playing it so much.

One quibble: I don't think mud is all that similar to grit; mud is wet, grit is dry. But I'll happily take Jake in either one, any day, preferably without the bubble!

Thanks so much Susan! That's really kind of you! I'm sitting here now watching Mumford & Sons and they are great!

Oh yes, Jake in floral wellies in the muck chomping on a veggieburger - an image that makes me happy. I love Sigh No More. And yes, the bubble is superfluous :)

PS That's so funny about the grit!

I couldn't think of a way to make a proper joke about "true grit." :) Just don't confuse grit with grits; the latter makes a pretty decent casserole if you add enough butter and garlic for flavor.

Ugh grits *shudders* :D

Maybe I missed something, but how do we know Jake is with M&S at Glatsonbury?

Hi Margot! We don't - as I say in the first paragraph, it's a fantasy. I bet he would have loved it if he had been there :)

oh, HAHA, that's what I missed.
Sorry!

Hi everybody!
Thank you Kate for this good post, especially for fantastic 17 answers interview! It's very special. Revealed so many things about Jake. I bet, he wouldn't share some of them now. It's so easy to get this kind of private staff from a young extravert boy. And he was so open, giving even girls' names away! :) :) :)
The story about burning "light my fire" housekeeper's panties is hilarious!
And it's so amazing, that he had a celebrity crush on Kirsten Dunst and was with her later on. Incredible.
Jake was so cute then and he remained that way till now.

Have a good weekend.

Ooooh WDW, I almost love you more when there isn't any Jake news available. What a glorious mud celebration of a post! :-))))) You and Bubble Boy Jake gave me such a big smile on my face, thank you.

Morning everyone! Lazy Saturday after the excitement of tennis and festivals last night :)

Hi Mermon! It's one of my favourite old interviews with Jake. Not the sort of thing we'd ever get now which makes me love it more :)

Thanks do much Lady Ekster! Always good to share some Bubble Boy fun and love :)

Have a good day everyone!

I love that old interview with Jake! He seems so sweet.
I like reading older interviews because, yes, he is more open about his life (the good and the bad of it).

Jake was seen on Fri outside of the medical center he has frequented, sans hair on his head and the face pet has been trimmed back to face fuzz. AND it looks like he has a new set of wheels. Not sure if it's another Audi, just that it's silver.
