Jake Gyllenhaal's Man vs Wild to air 11 July (see pictures) and Jake watches U2

Jake Gyllenhaal and Bear Grylls will pit Man vs Wild on Monday 11 July at 9pm ET. At last we have a date for Jake's daring do against the might of rivers, storms and beast. All while looking rather lovely in dashing red.

According to the press release 'For two days, Bear and Jake embark on a survival experience neither will forget, to an Icelandic landscape dominated by mountains, huge glaciers and some of Europe's most active volcanoes. Jake will have to go where Bear goes, eat whatever Bear eats, and on occasion even take the lead, if he's going to cope with some of the worst conditions known to man. "For me, it's all about discovery," said Gyllenhaal.

Said Bear about the experience, "The wild is always very revealing - not only physically but mentally. You've got to smile when it's driving horizontal hail and be able to face your fears and just get on and do it -- and on both of those accounts, Jake came up strong."

Many thanks to Pop Culture Zoo (via IHJ) for these wonderful images from the show. As for that photo of Jake on the rope crossing the river... Don't look down! I love Jake's movies but I could quite happily live off this TV appearance for months. I hope it's the beginning of a trend - I want to see Jake do some animal documentaries as well. Documentaries about anything, to be honest.

U2

Last night (18 June), Jake was one of the many celebrities seen at the U2 concert in Anaheim. You can see more details here, as well as the other celebrities that turned up. Here's one of them.

Thanks to IHJ for the wonderful pictures in the post!

Me too Monica! I cannot wait! I love this show anyway, but to have Jake on it...

That is bad luck, mk, but the chances of seeing him... How fantastic though that you saw U2! What was it like?

Yoohoo! So we know a date of an episode of Jake's Man vs. Wild! And Jake will be in the first of new episodes. I bet he will bring new viewers to that show. Nice of Gryll to show us few more pictures from Iceland.

@mk - sorry that you missed Jake at U2 concert. It was so close to meet him. Though, it was so many people there and he was difficult to recognize.
Bono cheers up Maria Shriver as he dedicates Pride to her at U2 concert - I like that.

It's good news, Mermon! I love the new pictures :) Jake, Bear Grylls and U2 in one post...

You're so lucky, mk! I saw them years ago, way before they got this big, and I have every one of their albums. I'd love to see them now.

YAY I am so happy that we finally have a date. I marked in my calendar!

And he looks annoyed at the paps, as usual. I wonder if he went with anyone to the concert?

WHY Bear, WHY couldn't you have taken Jake to a very hot and tropical place!! WHY did you have to take him to practically the coldest place on the planet! He is wearing way too many clothes!
.......that is all.

I love that pic of Jake on the rope. He looks like he wouldn't want to be any other place on earth and for that one moment that might have even been true, knowing how he loves to be outdoors and to push himself.

But all posted pics are great!
I hope somebody can tape the show and put it on youtube or somewhere quickly.

BTW - am I the only one who thinks Bear looks a bit like Liev Schreiber in those pics?

Morning everyone!

Hi Sweetpea - it's so good to have a date :)

It would be so great if we had a hot deserty edition as well, Margot!

Morning Mrs JG:D I totally agree - Jake looks like he's in his element and thoroughly enjoying himself. I hope we hear more about it as time goes on. I think we'll be ok for seeing the show - we'll sort things out. And he does!

Have a lovely day everyone! Summer solstice and Midsummers Day :) Not the weather for it, mind you...

This looks so coooool! Both literally and figuratively. ;)

I agree WDW, I wouldn't mind it at all if Jake would venture into documentaries a bit. Something like Richard Hammond's NGC shows perhaps, but then about another topic? Informative, intelligent, funny, sexy at times (which only you and me understand about Hammond *grin*)... Just the thought of that; would be wonderful! :)

maybe the next time Bear is in a tropical climate he might ask Jake if he'd like to come with him. It gets hot and they get all sweaty and Jake's shirt comes off and :D

yeah Bear why didn't you take Jake someplace HOT, very HOT

Hello everyone!

I do like the sound of that, Lady Ekster, and I would love to see Jake appear on Top Gear! ANimals, cars and history - if he does documentaries on those, I'll be very happy :D

If only, Sweetpea :D

I heard today that a video trailer will be released before the programme shows so I'm really looking forward to that!

I saw Hereafter at last this week. I didn't like it - you can hear why at MovieBrit.

Thanks for your review, WDW.

I can't see more snow. In Europe the countries that are located in the south are far more beautiful than those in the frozen north. Volcanoes of Europe will cause problems at airports.

Disneyland has several everywhere. Yesterday I visited a city that is beautiful in Portugal called Sintra which is registered by UNESCO.

All is wonderful with no snow!

Hi there P.Vic! I wouldn't worry - most of us can't see this in our countries either (I'm in the UK) - it'll only show in the US - but don't worry, I'm sure it'll be up so follow the site.

By the way, there's a new post up today with the trailer.
