[Upated] Jake Gyllenhaal: A Garden Revolutionary and 'hanging with Bear'

With special congratulations to the French contingent to LA that will leave the US with extremely heavy suitcases, it is a shame to say that Jake Gyllenhaal was notable in his absence from last night's Oscars. But even though we don't get new pictures of Jake in a tux, we have the next best thing - Jake with a spade. Yes, Jake appears with his his fellow Garden Revolutionary Alice Waters in the March issue of Bon Appetit. 'He genuinely believes... he has his hands in the ground', says Alice of Jake. Click and it shall be embiggened. Many thanks to BBMISwear for the scan!

Updated to add another picture. Source.

Speaking of earthy matters and the great outdoors, enthusiastic Brit Bear Grylls has been talking about his spirit of adventure. It's good to see that Jake was not deterred by his Icelandic experiences. We know that Jake and Bear had dinner together during his recent visit to the UK but it seems that this is very much not a one off.

'Then there was the time he and Jake Gyllenhaal, a friend since the actor appeared on “Man vs. Wild” last season, decided to go for a leisurely boat ride in the Santa Monica Bay. “We pull out of Marina del Rey and, I’m not joking, it’s like standing waves, 30 feet high. Absolute monsters,” Mr. Grylls said. “We just got smashed to bits.” “Hanging with Bear is not for the faint of heart,” Mr. Gyllenhaal wrote in an e-mail. “He is always pushing the limit, and it is infectious to be around.”'

I have it on excellent made up authority that sleeping inside a camel carcass is still on Jake's todo list.

Thanks for taking the time to post this bit of news although you still seem to be sick.

It really was a pitty that Jake didn't attent the Oscar's last night with his friends Michelle, Busy and Meryl there.
But at least I could go to sleep without any second thoughts.

And obviously the robots are taking over again.

Thanks Mrs JG - have a horrible cold so I'm having a rest. Driving to and from York (8 hours all in all) did me no good when I was sick.

I love the scan (thanks BBMISwear!) and the Bear snippet. As for the Oscars, it was all so tedious this year, Jake was probably best putting his feet up an watching it at home.

PS Sorry about the word verification - I have been plagued by robots so had to put it back.

The Oscars had a ripple effect on much of Europe. Not only did the French contingent go home with heavy suitcases, but there were also some changes in Salburg, Austrai, where Captain Von Trapp changed the last line of "Edelweiss."

The new verison will be:

"Edelweiss, Edelweiss, bless my Oscar forever."

:-)

Kate! Your illness didn't affect your wittiness! Bless you, great post!
Yes, French Artists took over Hollywood.I haven't see it yet.
Bear Gryll seems to constantly imperil Jake. 30 feet high standing waves?! Come on! They could sweep Jake away from boat. That friendship should be insured. LOL. It looks like boys had fun!

Hi Paul! I was so pleased for Christopher Plummer - that's been a long time coming...

Thanks so much, Mermon! And you are so right! That's a dangerous friendship! It sounds like they have a lot in common. I am a very bad sailor...

Blogger comments look very odd today.

Updated the post with another lovely picture of Jake and Alice!

It really is a nice pic of Alice and Jake. Country nature suits Jake a lot. I would gladly work with him in a secret garden :)

What a strange site of blogger - surprise!

It's a lovely pic, Mermon! I don't like this new Blogger at all - I hope we get used to it soon...

I hate this new layout for the comments!

WDW so sorry you are unwell.

I adore Christopher Plummer and Gary Oldman.

Get well soon Kate. Thanks for posting even feeling unwell.
What a pair Bear & Jake, Jake & Bear.
Nice garden pics.
Surprising how many things Jake has going on.
I did not watch the Oscars either.

It's always so cool to see Jake in all these different situations (like in a garden with Alice)! I had to laugh when I saw a tweet last night (a little before the start of the Oscars) of Jake yet again on the subway - it made me think about the extremes in his life and how wonderful that is. One day he's on the red carpet wearing an extremely expensive tux with some of the most talented people in the world and exactly one year later he is on a subway in NYC probably wearing worn out pants and a beanie hat with crazy hair and face scruff (and most likely not with some of the most talented people in the world) - ha ha! How awesome for him - variety is the spice of life 'n true!

Keep getting your rest WDW and get (all the way) better soon!

:-)

Thanks 21:14 and me too!

Hi there Eureka and BBMISwear :-)Jake does live in a strange kind of world where he can attend the Oscars and ride on the subway wearing a woolly hat. Hopefully he has the best of both worlds :)

I just got back from the movies. I saw "This means war," aromantic action comedy about two CIA agents who are in love with Reese Witherspoon. Reese is a major Jake link.

I love to see Jake in the garden. :)

I hope you get better soon, Kate!

Hi Paul! Blimey, that film looks so bad! There is a real shortage of good films out at the moment.

Thanks so much, Mayumintolor :) I'm feeling much better today. Back at work.

I hope everyone had a goo day. Very springlike :)

Things seem so quiet. Maybe Jake has returned to Europe?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi 12:20 :) It is very quiet - it always is when Jake is living his private life in NYC in particular. That's very good for him but not so great for poor bloggers :D There's a full archive through the blog of articles, interviews and videos so hopefully there'll be something to interest you.

I hope everyone's having a good day!
