[Updated] Breaking News! End of Watch to be released in the US 28 September 2012 (as is Maggie's new film!)

End of Watch has a date! At least an American date - 28 September 2012. Rather coincidentally, one of the other movies released the same day is Maggie Gyllenhaal's Won't Back Down. Nothing like a little opening date rivalry between silblings... Here is the news courtesy of Variety (the photo is from Open Road via The Playlist):

Open Road Films has set Sept. 28 for the release of police drama "End of Watch" starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Peña, Anna Kendrick, Frank Grillo and America Ferrera. "Watch" written and directed by David Ayer. It employs footage from handheld cameras of police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras and citizens. Pic's produced by Ayer's Crave Films, John Lesher under his Le Grisbi Productions, and Nigel Sinclair and Matt Jackson of Exclusive Media who also financed the film, in association with Emmett/Furla Films. Exclusive Media holds worldwide distribution rights.
"End of Watch" will open against Warner's Clint Eastwood baseball drama "Trouble with the Curve," Fox's drama "Won't Back Down," starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis," and a pair of entries from Sony -- the animated "Hotel Transylvania" and sci-fier "Looper."
But, if you're fortunate enough to be in the States that weekend, I think there's only one move to see, and it features Baldie Jake. Hopefully, we'll get news of some release dates in other parts of the world soon.

Thanks to IHJ for the pic!

My review of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is now up at MovieBrit.

28 September! It's marked on my calendar and I'm ready to go! Fingers crossed that the marketing plan is top-notch and this one gets all the attention from audiences it deserves.

Kate, how about you come visit me this September and we'll go see this one together? I'll buy the popcorn!

So good to finally have a date but I was hoping it would be sooner than the fall...it feels like a long wait. We certainly have had to have patience with this one, huh?! Well we'll take it...and hopefully a date for other parts of the world shortly after! Now, what to do with myself between now and September - ha ha!

Thanks for the update! :-)

What an excellent idea, Susan! I can't tell you hoe tempting that is... I've been watching the news about the tornadoes. I hope they're leaving your area alone.

It is a wait, BBMISwear, and who knows how much longer the rest of us must wait. Hopefully it gives Jake the summer to get another movie made. C'mon Jake!

Have a lovely Saturday everyone!

Kate! Congrats once again on your promotion, I hope it means more money for you as well :)
Good to have a date for EoW at last, though waiting is very long. I hope that release date in Poland will be before December 21 :), I want to see this movie!
Do you know, is it up to OpenRoad when the movie is released in other country? If so, maybe we could ask them to do it the same day everywhere. Would be awesome!
Maggie seems to make a lot of movie, more than Jake. I saw Hysteria, liked it a lot, she's such a good actress, nice woman too.
Can't wait for April 2 - for Jake's performance. I like Paul Newman very much. It's been over 3 years since he passed away.
I enjoyed a lot an article from the link you gave in previous post "How a cult hero became a Hollywood prince". It reminded me how Jake enjoyed playing Dastan. And I have a celebration today - Prince of Persia - first time on my TV!
@Kate, @Susan, would be lovely to watch EOW with all WDWers together!

Good morning everyone!
Kate is from the September festival starts happening? I'm glad we have a date, but so far, I think it would have a reason for this

A great weekend everyone!

That movie with Maggie Gyllenhaal, releasing the same day as EoW is, seems to be quite interesting IMO,about school reform. If you want to read something about that:
“Won't Back Down”

Jake and his mum were on Brodway March 1 at SEMINAR - Alan Rickman starring!

Or maybe it was March 2?

Thanks for your concern, Kate. We were fortunate, relatively speaking. My area had some tornado damage, several houses destroyed, but I haven't heard of any serious injuries or deaths. My immediate neighborhood only got some heavy rain and high winds.

Everyone around here is jumpy because of the memories of last year's April tornado outbreak. Hopefully this year won't be as bad.

@Susan, maybe you could consider moving to more peaceful area:)

Looks like Blogger is having fun duplicating comments...

Hi Mermon! Open Road are just distributing EoW in the US so we'll have to wait for what the other companies do with the film in other countries. Hopefully this will spur them on though... Thanks for the links!

Thanks Eureka! I'm really pleased!

Hi Daniela - it is a good time for a film to be released in the US for sure :)

I'm so glad you're ok, Susan! Awful pictures on the news. I certainly hope with you that there isn't a repeat of last year.

I hope you all are having a good day. I saw Marigold Hotel today and enjoyed it - review to come.

I've discovered that worldwide End of Watch distribution is in @ExclusiveEMG - EXCLUSIVE MEDIA'S hands.
