New project! Jake Gyllenhaal to star in Mississippi Grind? And Gwyneth Paltrow screens End of Watch

No wonder Jake Gyllenhaal's not doing much sport at the moment, how on earth would he find the time?! Previews of If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet start next week and today we learn that Jake will be attending a special screening of End of Watch on Sunday hosted by Proof co-star Gwyneth Paltrow (you remember, the co-star that cried a lot).

To top it off, we have news that Jake may well have signed the dotted line on his next movie project - Mississippi Grind, written and directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. Both were responsible for a film that Jake has named as one of his favourites, Half Nelson starring Ryan Gosling.

The Hollywood Reporter broke today's news and tells us: 'The story centers on a down-on-his-luck gambler facing crushing debt who teams up with a younger gambling addict (Gyllenhaal) in an attempt to change his luck. The two set off on a road trip through the South with visions of winning back what has been lost. The lead character would be a plum role for Hollywood's fortysomething set. WME, which reps Fleck, Boden and Gyllenhaal, is packaging the project, which would fall in the less-than-$10 million budget.'

Several things to note here: a) less than $10 million budget? It's fair to say then that it won't feature aliens or battleships; b) at long last I might learn to spell Mississippi; c) who would you cast as the 'fortysomething'? I would definitely like to see Robert Downey Jr in the role but it's quite possible that any and all of the Avengers may be ruled out by the (tiny) budget.

So, as they say, watch this space!

My review of The Hunter is now on MovieBrit.

Robert would be a perfect match opposite Jake, yes!

Wonder if we'll hear more about this or if it RIPs with Puzzle Palace and Mobster.

Morning Sasha! Yes he would :) I don't have big expectations for either of the two other projects. Sounds like it's going to be a fascinating and brilliant few months!

Great news! Thank you Kate. Jake as a gambler? Why not?
I like the idea of special EoW screening with Gwyneth hosting. It will give more significant to it. Attracts more attention. I smell grand success for that movie.

I'd also love to see Robert!! I even think this is something he might be willing to do regardless of the budget, but maybe it is his schedule that will prohibit.

Robert has made an indie movie with Jamie Foxx as a homeless cello player with mental problems. It was a low budget project, and he and Jamie were wonderful in it.

In any case they will not start this project until Jake is finished with his play in November. I hope they read your blog, WDW.

I am so happy Jake has another movie lined up. I do wish he'd do something more light-hearted, but this does sound interesting.

I looked up a site for a list of actors in their 40's to play opposite Jake. http://www.listal.com/list/hottest-male-actors-their-40s

I thought Johnny Depp might be good

Great update WDW - so much exciting stuff going on with Jake right now. All leading up to next Friday night! No dull moments for a while (which is a good thing of course). The boy better get his rest when he can - phew!!

:-)

Thanks Mermon!

Hi there 14:19 - that is a good thought. Jake himself takes a pay cut on the majority of his films and so it doesn't rule out some big, food names. I love Jamie Foxx too.

Hey sweetpea! I must admit that I am craving something lighter too but it does sound interesting. Johnny Depp would be good. I'm not sure how old Jeremy Renner is but I'd like to see him act with Jake.

Thanks so much, Carlotta! Have a lovely weekend :)

Thanks BBMISwear :-) What a week!!! Incredible. After all those months with so little. Good news today.

Have a good evening everyone! Off on holiday for a week tomorrow evening (off to Cornwall in a tent, heaven help me) so pray for sun!

I'd love to see Jake work with Robert again. I could see this being something that he would be interested in.

Exciting times:)

What is so difficult about spelling Mississippi? There are only four letters and three of them are repeated...

I sure do wish they would film in Mississippi. The Delta is already home to a large group of Vegas-style casinos, there are some large ones on the Gulf Coast, and there are also some not-so-large ones on the river (also named Mississippi, btw). Besides all of those there are a couple of very large and impressive Indian-owned casinos in central Mississippi that can hold their own against anything in Nevada or Atlantic City.

In case you haven't guessed already, I am originally from Mississippi. IF this movie project comes together with Jake in the cast and IF they do actually film any part of it on location in Mississippi, I suspect I will find an excuse to visit relatives so I can go in search of the action. I hope they film in early spring - summer would be too miserably hot and humid.

M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i. That is how it is spelled.

Greetings from a tent at the very southwestern tip of England. I am as red as the reddest beetroot...

Hi Susan! I hope all that comes to pass - would be wonderful. And thanks for the lesson ;)

Have a good day everyone! Off seal watching and cliff walking today down on the Lizard :)
