*Updated to add video* Jake Gyllenhaal cooks and is cooked for (you can be there too!)

Jake Gyllenhaal's culinary skills are legendary. One can barely think of such foodstuffs as pickled onions, starbursts, strawberries, cilantro, risotto, iPads and meatballs without thinking of Jake. In fact, he is one of the few people in the public eye who would be able to construct a plate of food and a piece of garden furniture from the same ingredients. This week, Jake appeared on The Chew, cooking alongside old friend and TV cooking partner Mario Batali. If you live in the US you can watch the clip here. Wouldn't it be great if internet files could be freed from borders?

Update! As you can see, there is now a version for us all. Thanks so much to Stephanie!

Thank heavens for IHJ. Looks like Jake's beard is coming on a treat. Anyone with a beard like that who eats spaghetti is a brave man (or woman, I don't want to be sexist).

Jake appeared on the Leonard Lopate radio show this week with fellow If There Is... cast member Brian F O'Byrne. I'm delighted to say that the interview is now available to listen to.

And finally...

Jake's charity work for New Eyes for the Needy (as well as his love of food) is being recognised on 29 October by a celebratory dining event that you can go to as well if you live near NYC and have $500. Not only does the money go to a good cause, but you can also see Jake, as well as Peter, Maggie and Top Brit Scout Bear Grylls, and, one hopes, get some good nosh too. Details are all here.

If any of you go, please remember to bag me some pudding.

There is also another one of those famous Jake auctions.

Thanks very much, IHJ!

Hi Kate! It was great to watch Jake on The Chew with Mario Batali. You're right, it isn't fair that international borders interfere with enjoying a good video clip.

When I read that Jake wore contact lenses, and that he had very bad eyesight, I was inspired to find out about getting contact lenses for the first time myself (I'm 46!) - I have a complicated prescription, and my optician says it will be a challenge - I'm going to be getting them next week sometime- keep fingers crossed they'll be OK!

Hi Susan! Thank heavens for IHJ! But these regional restrictions are ridiculous in this day and age. What can it possibly achieve restricting people in Europe from watching a US TV show?

Fingers crossed, BMC! I'm a cowardy custard when it comes to contact lenses...

Wonderful post WDW - Jake's appearance on The Chew is terrific! Very entertaining - Jake and Mario had me laughing (and made me extremely hungry)! Am I correct that all of you not in the U.S. can watch it now because Stephanie made it downloadable? Or is that not working for non-US residents as well? I couldn't tell for sure the way it was worded so please do let me know because if you can't see it we have to get it to you pronto!! You made me laugh with the bits about all the things Jake has cooked over the years - so true, so true.

Happy Weekend to all - I plan to spend a fair amount of time out of the house but come Sunday I do hope to continue with the video/photo/article catch up that I am STILL in the middle of - so much wonderful stuff - that I'm enjoying a little bit at a time. :-)

Hi BBMISwear :-) The link to view the video only works in the US but IHJ has made it downloadable - I just didn't like to say that too blatantly in the post! I just dropped heavy hints :) Have a wonderful weekend! I'm not moving an inch...

Too bad we can't watch it in Europe! Unfair, indeed. Let's hope for youtube soon!

Go to the IHJ media section, Mermon :)

Thank you! I'm watching it now!

Great to see Jake in such a good mood. Jake - Prince of Pasta. Show itself was too crowded and chaotic IMO. Pasta looked good. Made me hungry. Eating pasta Jake - very yummy :)

Bright Moon Crystals--contacts changed my entire view of the world (pun not intended, but kept because it made me giggle), and I found they weren't very difficult to use or maintain. I hope they work out well for you!

Is it just me, or does Jake seem SO much more relaxed in a kitchen on camera than in the usual interview chairs? He conducts himself well in any interview he gives, but he just seems to really relax and open up in a kitchen setting. He seemed that way on Ellen, too, when he cooked with her those years ago.

Thanks for clarifying WDW - now I see what you were doing with the comments about The Chew video (hee hee). I was concerned you couldn't see it at all - it's a goodie!

Have a great weekend - good luck to all on the U.S. east coast with the big storm coming in. Please no loss of power - I will have internet withdrawals!!

:-)

Hello everyone! I'm sick in bed - ugh.... first cold weather of the year and it gets me. Good luck to those of you across the pond with the nasty storm.

Updated the post to include the video of Jake on The Chew - thanks, Stephanie!

Hi Mermon!

He does, Tina :)

Hello BBMISwear:-) - good luck - hope the power stays on...

Everyone stay away from me..... I'm sneezing all over the place. Have a good weekend!

WDW - hope you are feeling better soon. Lovely in Cornwall today - beautiful sun, but freezing wind :-(

Watched Source Code last night for first time. Much better than I thought it was going to be - I thought Jake's performance was stunning - the confusion and anxiety he portrayed was contagious. The story wasn't quite what I expected - much more complex and interesting, and surprisingly heart wrenching, but not in the way I thought it would be. How hard to see Jakey get 'killed' so many times too :-(

The film is crying out for a sequel, if only to ensure Colter gets the happy ending he deserves - it was left in the air for how his 'life' was going to be...

Oh, and why is Jake's beard getting longer and longer, I do hope he trims it back to sexy stubble after the play :-)

Kate, stay warm and healthy!
Storm on U.S. east coast? I hope Jake will hide well. We want him in one piece!
@Bright Moon Crystals - I like Source Code so much. Jake is so handsome there with all those close-ups. For me that film must be watched more than once.

Hope you get well soon, Kate.
I could barely catch up on all those great posts during the last weeks. I am still enjoying it bit by bit. Thank you so much Kate.
Good luck to those on the Eastcoast of USA with the storm. For those at the Westcoast I hope the earthquakes are not too bad.

Hope you are getting the rest you need to feel better Kate! I don't think my area is going to get too strong of winds but it looks like NYC will be getting hit pretty hard. Roundabout announced the matinee shows will go on but for those productions that have evening performances on Sundays (not ITI) they are all canceled. Lots of references to TDAT in these parts!

Happy Sunday! :-)

I hope Jkae has evacuated NYC - otherwise he'll be in areal life Day After Tomorrow :-(

My heart goes out to you all on the Eastern seaboard of the USA xx

Thanks for the well wishes, been rather knocked out by flu over the last few days. Feeling a little more human tonight.

Thinking of you BBMISwear.... best wishes to everyone undergoing Hurricane Sandy in the Eastern US.

I've heard that Jake was spotted trying to help a taxi cab in the new York floods - anyone else have any news of this? My hero... :-x

Minerva By The Sea said...

The highlight of the cookery show was when Jake blushed - so cute :-) - Wish Jake would help me out in my kitchen ! Wouldn't need extra chilli to make it hot ;-)

Hi everyone! I'm still ill in bed I'm afraid so sorry for lack of updates.

Hi 18:27 - I think that was someone having a laugh with a photo of Jake with the taxi from the flood scene in The Day After Tomorrow.

Hi BMC :)

New post!
