As WDW hits 7 years old, a catch up with Jake Gyllenhaal and an Italian and Welsh Interlude!

Today is the 7th birthday of Wet Dark and Wild! No longer a toddler, it's definitely moved on to the gin and tonic phase, especially if you consider that blog years are like dog years. They do rhyme, after all. As it is the anniversary, there's no better time than to catch up with Jake Gyllenhaal.

First off, thanks to IHJ, we can see scans of Jake on location for Everest in the June issue of Empire. I love this photo of Jake. Do click on them and they shall be embiggened.

With Everest in the bag, albeit a delayed and we might get to see it eventually bag, Jake is now moving onto other things and at the heart of it all appears to be Southpaw. Jake is in training mode, which can be seen by recent sightings and photos of him at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas and at a boxing match. You can see more of these over at IHJ. I do have to say, though, that this is not a role, or a look, that warms the cockles of my heart.

Jake has found the time for other more relaxing pursuits, including dinner with sister Maggie in Santa Monica (I love Maggie's new hairdo) and a trip out to watch old favourites Arcade Fire on 21 April in West Hollywood. Jake looked seriously peeved to be papped so let's leave it with a link.

WDW Italian and Welsh Interludes!

I have been quiet of late due to a) holidaying in Italy and Wales and b) due to eating too many Easter malteser chocolate bunnies. I promised an Italian Interlude in the last post but I was waylaid by Wales, which was beautiful and warm and sunny by day but by night, in a tent, was so cold it introduced a touch of hypothermia to my sunstroke. I thought I'd share a few photos, first Italy (Campania - Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum, Amalfi Coast) and second Wales. I would normally say you'd be able to spot the difference but we visited for the first time on a fabulously sunny day the curious Welsh-Italian coastal town of Portmeirion - better known to me at least as home to The Prisoner - 'I am not a number!' and all that.....

Wales...

I hope you all had a good Easter break!

I can't believe it's been 7 years!! Thanks everyone :)

There are lots of pics in the post today. Hopefully they won't cause you too many problems but I couldn't resist! There's some Jake, too ;)

Hope you had a good Easter!

Happy 7th anniversary Kate! Bravo! I'm getting quite excited about South Paw. Jake's really on a roll. Just as he finishes one project we've got all the excitement of the next. And btw has everyone checked out the training pics on IHJ. Helllllo Abs is all I can say!
But it's seriously time to lose the hair and beard tho.

Happy Anniversary WDW!! I always love your interludes! Please can you tell me where the photo of the open market/bazaar was taken?

I have been to Pompeii but never to Herculaneum or the other places you mention, and did not spend time in Naples as we were just passing through.

I would love to hear more about the trip and some of these very interesting photos. Also, can you elaborate about the Welsh -Italian I had no idea there was a connection. I always associate Wales with Germanic tribes, or Celts, or Vikings. I love ancient history, but I am not very knowledgeable about many aspects.

Thanks, Malavika! I do agree about the hair and beard...

Thanks so much, Kelli! The shopping photo is from the old part of Naples. It's a street that mainly just sells religious souvenirs. A lot of character! Herculaneum may be even better than Pompeii so I hope you get there some time. Portmeirion in north Wales was built in the last century along Italian lines but to fit in with the beautiful landscape. So it's not old but it's gorgeous. Best to be seen in the sunshine, I think. Thanks so much for your comment :)

Hi Kate! Congratulations on 7 glorious years of the most entertaining blog ever!
Love the gorgeous interlude photos - makes me wish I could travel more.
Jake really, really, really, gets aggravated with the paps, doesn't he? Can't say I blame him. I'm looking forward to more pics from Southpaw, too - the abs are a welcome distraction from the hair and beard. ;-)

Happy 7th birthday, WDW! And Kate! ;-)

The pictures are wonderful - also the Jake ones. Agree with all of you as far as Jake's (facial) hair is concerned. Enough is enough!

P.S. Saw 'Enemy'!!! (a download for now) It is indeed an experience... awesome performances by Jake and Sarah Gadon. Loved it! Looking forward to seeing it at the cinema in a couple of weeks! *happy*

Thanks so much, Susan! I think I'm happier seeing pics of Jake at events or on set these days, when it's work or pleasure and not a toil for him.

Thanks, Sonja! Ooh, I'm glad you got to see Enemy.

Happy Anniversary! Seven years. How fast time flies. Too fast for me these days.

I am actually looking forward to Southpaw but like most fans I am beyond tired of Jake's look. I long for the old days when practically every time we saw a new picture he was more gorgeous than the time before. I'm still hanging in there though.

Thanks for sharing your lovely travel photos.

Good to see you back, Kate. It seems you had a wonderful time in Italy and Wales.
Happy 7th anniversary to your fantastic and entertaining blog. Thank you for all the effort to get us updated in Jake-related stuff / work. I like your funny writing and your interludes. Keep going on !

Happy 7th birthday, WDW!

I'm depressed about not seeing "Enemy." If it went through without my noticing, that makes me a rather poor Jake fan. :-(

It's probably available somewhere on the Internet, though. ASome day I need to experiment with watching videos on my computer, hopefully starting with that movie.

It's on iTunes, Paul!

Here's the website for Enemy, just follow the links to go to iTunes and / or Amazon:

I am sorry that it has taken me this long to say Happy Birthday to WDW!!! I can't believe it's been 7 years...wow!! I think I've popped on to this post about 5 times over the past week or so but was always interrupted mid-way so didn't finish or get a chance to write a comment. Well I made it through today and a very entertaining post it is! Beautiful pictures from your travels, Kate - boy you have been keeping busy, huh?!

Since I'm so late to comment here I'm sure all have seen the additional pictures of Jake preparing for Southpaw (the recent video clips on Instagram of him doing a boxing work out are amazing - boy is he in great shape - gorgeous shape)!! I am not a fan of boxing as a sport but I am a fan of Jake being in incredible shape as he is for this role and I can almost say for sure the beard will be gone when filming begins (and probably most of the hair too) - I've never seen a bearded boxer - yay - bye bye beard!! From what I've read this is a dramatic role for Jake - more about the boxer's life than the boxing matches so if this is true I am very excited for this role! I guess we'll see as more info surfaces.

Note to Paul: You didn't miss Enemy here in Massachusetts because it never played at a movie theater here! Crazy, huh?! I'm so glad I got to see it on the big screen at TIFF and will be buying the blu-ray to watch again once it is released on that format. I can only guess that even if I see it a couple of more times I'm not going to understand it entirely (but Jake gives such a great performance it will be fun trying anyway).

Congrats, again, Kate, for 7 great years of this wonderful blog - I'll try to pop back more often (if life would could just slow down just a little bit...sigh). Cheers! :-)

Thanks so much, Dani! Too fast, and we knew each other before that!

Thank you, Christina!

Thanks, Paul! Enemy certainly hasn't been sighted near me. I'm not sure if it's shown in the UK at all.

Hi, Sonja :)

Thanks so much, BBMISwear :-) I've been very busy, just how I like it. Italy is goo for me :) I'm having a lot of trouble with Southpaw and the photos of Jake in Vegas watching the boxing. This is a sport that doesn't interest me in the least. In fact, I don't care for it at all, and so I do wish Jake were working on something else. But never mind.... Hope things are good with you!

You haven't seen 'Enemy' yet, Kate?

According to IMDb, it'll be released in the UK at May 16th. Don't know if it'll be a limited release, though.

I keep reading 'Southpaw' will focus on a boxer's private life and not too much on the sport itself. I'm not too keen on boxing myself (to say the least), so I know how you feel, but knowing Jake he'll give the role all he's got and that alone makes me want to watch it.
