Jake to be interviewed by BBC security correspondent and expert on terror

You don't need me to tell you that Jake Gyllenhaal's schedule - and our's - is looking a litle busy over the next week or two. We know how entertaining Jake will be and how his ready wit will be armed and ready to take on the likes of Jonathan Ross, Conan O'Brien, Ellen and Jon Stewart. I am fully expecting more classic moments along the lines of the kicked toad, the modern dance troupe, 24 hour Yellow fever, Inuit chanting, shirt stripping and maybe a bit of basketball - or some new interesting fabrics, even more so than suits made out of goats blood or diapers/nappies made from bananas and straw. But what we're also going to get is something a little bit more serious to complement all this wonderful stuff.

Thanks very much to BMG who had their ear next to the radio this afternoon, we now know that Jake is to be interviewed in London by the well-known BBC Security Correspondent, Frank Gardner, who reports on Al-Qaeda terrorism. You may remember that Gardner was shot by Al-Qaeda gunmen in 2004 and his cameraman killed. Frank's also a film buff and a big appreciator of the Bourne movies. On Simon Mayo's show, Radio 5 Live today, there was a discussion between Simon and Frank on the film Rendition, during which Frank revealed that he will be interviewing Jake for the BBC 2 programme The Culture Show.

The Culture Show airs on Saturdays on BBC2 at 7.10pm, repeating at 1.05am that night. The problem is we don't know which Saturday - whether it's the 13 or 20 October. [Here is a link to listen to the show with the Rendition piece coming about 45 minutes from the end - I've not got it to work properly myself, so, if you do, let us know what they say.]

Not surprisingly Jake and Rendition will also be featured in Film 2007 which is another of Jonathan Ross' shows. This will be shown on Tuesday 16 October on BBC 1 at 11.05pm. I will add it to the list.

As you can see from this post, new publicity stills have been released for Rendition, including one from my favourite scene of the film (see below) - thank you New Line! You can hear more about the film, from Jake, Reese, Peter and Omar, in this video clip from Hollywood.com. In this interview (again from the Wilshire press conference and junket day), you can hear Jake say that, as a humanitarian he cannot approve of rendition and that the film is about communication. I didn't find the video spoilery, but it would have made me want to wish the next week away if we weren't in for such incredible Gyllentreats! As always click on the pictures and bring them to life.

Includes pictures from IHJ, all from New Line. Thanks bmg.

Thank you so much WDW! I'm so pleased we're going to see more of Jake on UK tv than just Jonathan Ross! I would think the Culture Show is the one on the 20th, cos if Jake's arriving on Friday he probably won't have time to film it for the 13th. But I'll be taping it just in case;) And Film 2007 - didn't we say yesterday that was a possibility? ;D It should be good cos JR is a proper film buff and he'll do a proper serious interview as opposed to the more comical stuff he does on Friday Night. Brilliant!

Thanks too for the interview and pics. The first pic has to be my favourite- mean and moody looking Jake *drool* I can't wait to see Rendition!!! (that has to be the millionth time I've said that now, do I get a prize? ;)

The Rendition publicity stills are beautiful, WDW. You're right, we are definitely in for a treat this week, and I can hardly wait! I wonder what surprises Jake has in store for us? The Frank Gardner interview sounds interesting. Thanks WDW! :)

Hey Twisted Logic - I would've thought Jake will record interviews on the Saturday before flying back for the NYC shows so yes, probably the 20th, but definitely get the recorder ready for the 13th! And it is good to get confirmation for Film 2007 - that will be very good.

I love all these new pictures of Rendition Jake - that's 'my Bafta Jake' - can't get enough of him :)

Thanks Anons or Anon - that's interesting about Leo and Farragut North - this play seems less and less likely as far as Jake is concerned the more we hear about it. But I'm prepared to be proved wrong.

Thanks for that fascinating Rendition article from the Times. I'm glad to see such positive attention for this film in the UK media - The film Rendition is a courageous public innoculation against this creeping criminality.

Thanks Marina -it's going to be an incredible week!

Thank the Lord for WDW! This is meant to be a week off work for hubby and me but we've been doing some de-cluttering too, and today I've been up to my knees in muck and bullets and battling the blues,so finally getting here to a fabulous post, some great publicity stills,a juicy video clip and more great Jake-news is just what I needed!

I am just thrilled to bits that Jake is going to be interviewed by Frank Gardner! He is one of my all-time reporting heroes. I got hooked on his authoritative reports on Middle Eastern affairs and his gloriously upper class voice on Radio 4's the Today Programme, his TV reporting was equally measured,well-informed and brave,so I was gutted when he was shot and his cameraman killed.

He's battled back to be the BBC's Chief Security Correspondent and sometimes does his reports standing with the use of a special brace although his injuries keep him,for now,wheelchair-bound most of the time. Given the right treatment and technology he's the type of man with the courage and determination to learn to walk again.

As far as I'm concerned there is no one better to conduct a serious interview with Jake on an important and complex subject and I'm sure each will bring out the best in each other.

Once again,WDW,thank you so much for the pick-me-up..and tomorrow is another day,and one day closer to a veritable Jake-fest. I'm smiling again :-)

Thanks so much Nadine - I have a big dose of the blues myself this evening so thanks for such an uplifting comment :) A day in muck and bullets sounds grim indeed.

I agree that I can think of noone better to interview Jake about this. I'm sure he'll go gentle on Jake but this will give Jake such a good opportunity to be able to talk at length (I hope) about something that is so important.

Not long til Friday now :)

Another Jake interview - yes! It sounds like Frank Gardner is the perfect person to get inside Jake's head on this serious subject.

Great new pics, especially the one of Jake and Gavin sitting on the steps, deep in discussion. I wish we could listen in. :-)

I just got around to looking up Robert Elswit, Jake's cinematographer uncle, on imdb (thank you, get real, for that info) and I noticed that 3 George Clooney movies are listed at the top. It brought to mind all those pics of Jake and George chatting at the 2006 Oscars. It's clear that Jake was schooled in everything relating to film. The man should write a book. :-)

Thank you WDW for all the new pics and links.

So looking forward to some good exchanges with Jake on such an important issue! It won't be long now. Especially looking forward to the interview with Frank Gardner. These are the Jake moments that bring home to us not only his magic but also his potential to bring challenges to the status quo.

Thanks for this update WDW, and hope tomorrow chases the blues away--

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Neely - I know what you mean, I'd love to know what Jake and Gavin were talking about here. It always interests me to see how small - and how apart - the Hollywood world is. If a nyone is at the heart of it, it's Jake.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey! Kim my friend. Good to hear from you. You and everyone here has chased those blues away all right. These are the Jake moments that bring home to us not only his magic but also his potential to bring challenges to the status quo. There is going to be so much to talk about and new things to discover.

Jake might not be stopping long here, but talk about quality time! We're going to be cracking up watching JR in less than 48 hours, and then we're going to see Jake talking seriously and in depth about the film and rendition itself on TCS and Film 2007 :) And hopefully some written press too - would it be really greedy of me to hope for another Guardian interview and photoshoot? ;D

Then we've got all the US shows and all that's before Rendition Day itself! And after that I'm probably going to have to lie down in a dark room for a very long time, but it will be so worth it!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Twisted Logic - I think this is going to be even more incredible than Zodiac week. Thank heavens I've booked some time off for the end of it to recover! I think Jake could do a lot of press on Saturday for the Sundays so I suppose I'll have to buy up the lot :) 48 hours to go - I'm so glad Jake is including the UK in the promotion this time round.

They had the premiere in Los Angeles for Rendition tonight, 10/10. I suppose tomorrow will be a travel day for Jake. The cast must be planning a full court press for the movie. Talk about incredible timing. The FISA legislation is before Congress, rendition is being talked about on the floor of the US Senate and the NYTimes wrote a scathing piece on it last week.I am so glad Jake will be working hard in the UK!He will probably be busy from the time he lands until he leaves.

I really think it's rotten about Farragut North. I like George and Leo. But still....

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone - a real peasouper this morning but the good news is it's going to be unseasonably warm for Jake's visit :)

Hi Bobbyanna- It's annoying about George and Leo. Why George wouldn't go after Jake for the role is a mystery to me. Interesting about the Rendition LA premiere - totally out of the blue and on the quiet again - thank heaven for film festivals.

As far as Jake's visit to London goes, the busier the better. Hope he has a good flight :)

If you run the BBC Radio Player, Rendition and the interview are mentioned around the 2 hours 20 mark.

Leo will produce the movie (invest money). Why would he offer the role to Jake?

"Leo will produce the movie (invest money). Why would he offer the role to Jake?"

I don't know...ehmm..for his 'acting skills' maybe?

Wonderful new pics from Rendition WDW, Jake will be very DISTRACTING in it...;)
The interview with UK reporter sounds interesting...I wish I was English or American sometimes, just to be more on top of Jake's things...;)

And I'm still curious about how this film will be advertised here in Italy...

OT: Can anyone tell me how to use tag HTML in my comments?
Thank you! :)

Jake's Culture Show appearance will be on the 27th.

All the best,

Clayton
Culture Show Director

Hi all :)

Thanks bmg - I'll have another go.

I don't know...ehmm..for his 'acting skills' maybe? - I'll go along with that, Xenia - I'll email you about the tags when I get in unless someone else does it first :)

Clayton - Thanks very much indeed for the confirmation - and for getting Jake on the show - I'll add it to the schedule. I can't tell you how good it is to get Jake on a show like this one.

Yes, Leo's production company Appian Way, is the main producer for the film version of Farragut North. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed. As I've heard this story described,it may be that Leo is a bit too old for the role and so while he might be in it, there might still be a place for Jake in all this. I'm thinking we might not have enough information. Yet.
Isn't the story about an idealistic young hotshot who gets stabbed in the back (not literally) during a Presidential campaign?

Anonymous said...

Joe Trippi, campaign mgr for Howard Dean, the guy upon whom the character is apparently based, in the Farragut North script, was born in 1956, Jake in 1980. not that this has to be relevant. just sayin'

Ive never been crazy about this story, for Jake. oh, I guess I said that. altho I'd love to see him work with Mike Nichols.

Howard Dean said he's rather Jake play him. who wouldnt.

Hey Clayton, thank you so much for letting us know about TCS :) Bit of a long wait though:( Otoh, it could be a good thing to spread the Jake-ness out a little,I don't know how I'll cope with all the Jake overload as it is! (Don't worry, I'm sure I'll manage ;)

Jake is most probably packing his case as we speak - don't forget your razor, Jake!!!

Jake is in the plane as we speak!

LA-London: at least 11 or 12 hours

I'm a big fan of the new look Culture Show. Lauren Laverne reminds me of how much I miss Kenicke, Mark Kermode is fantastic...I didn't quite get the point of Graham Dixon-whotsit in the helicopter, but you can't have everything...

Frank Gardner is my *absolute hero* - if you haven't read his autobiography yet, I strongly recommend it.

This is an extraordinary privilege for Jake (yes, I did write that! :) ).

Anonymous said...

I just wrote a Frank Gardner- related PS on the post below this one :)- teach me to go on holiday. It says that Frank once wrote in the London Standard about seeing Jarhead with his wife, and commented on its realism and how much he liked it.

Anonymous said...

Jake, are you in London yet? :)

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

Hey Anouska, you have such great taste in men! I don't get a lot of time for reading now (and when I do it's usually slash ;-) ),but I must get hold of Frank Gardner's autobiography.

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to hear that Frank was fulsome in his praise for "Jarhead". Coming from him that is a plaudit nonpareil! Do we really have to wait until Oct 27th to see Jake's interview by Frank on "The Culture Show"?!

Although,T.Logic is right,if we have this to look forward to a short time after this huge week of Jakeyness and the release of Rendition, then it will spread the pleasure and mitigate the comedown a little!

And if you are still up there in the clouds,Jake, safe landings hon! If you're on terra firma now,Welcome back to Britain! xxx

Anonymous said...

Hey, Anouska! I know you guys will give him pretty of loving, and treat him right! He will be SO honored and so will all of us USAans!

Anonymous said...

p.s. I mean of course PLENTY OF LOVING (and treat him right, cause a good man is hard to find)

although love him pretty!

Talk about sod's law!! I finally taped the Rendition trailer last night, so I didn't bother taping any ad breaks when I was watching telly tonight...so of course, I missed the chance to tape the new improved trailer!!:( The "open the gates!!" one...I can't really describe the sound that came out of my mouth at that point...I'm going to be biting my lip so hard when I watch this!

I don't think our boy will be here just yet, cos they're taping JR tomorrow instead of tonight cos of Jake which suggests he might not be here til tomorrow morning/afternoon. He could be at the airport right now, buying lollies (and a razor hopefully!)

Anonymous said...

Jake is only human and cannot avoid jet lag. I bet he'll be in London tonight!

Anonymous said...

Well, Jamie Foxx was on the other week and said he'd got to the studio straight from the airport, so Jake might do the same. But then if he's recording other stuff on Saturday he'll need some rest at some point, so he may get here tonight. As long as he gets here safe and sound that's all that matters:)

Anonymous said...

Me again! Sorry! Just to say I taped the new Rendition trailer a minute ago *drool* and the voiceover has a quote from The Independent: "This thriller has Oscar written all over it". They're certainly pushing Rendition a lot harder here than they did Zodiac:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi all! It's taken me so long to do the post for this evening I've missed you all :(

First off... Twisted Logic which channel are you watching? - I've seen nothing! Admittedly I haven't watched any TV this week - maybe that has something to do with it? - but just give me a channel and I'll risk it ;)

Bobbyanna - that's a good point. George and Leo may have bought the project but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the cast, or that Jake's out of the film or the play.

Positively Pia - At this stage, I'm with you.

bmg thanks for those comments about The Culture Show - I think we are extremely lucky to see Jake on this and thanks for letting us know in the first place!

hey Anouska - thanks for telling us about Frank and Jarhead - that's major praise coming from him. I agree absolutely - it is a privilege for Jake to be interviewed by such an authority. Well worth the wait.

Hi Nadine - I don't think it will hurt to have to wait for the 27th for The Culture Show - it could well be the best of the lot.

So anons, twisted Logic and Pia - where is Jake - I tend to think he'll be flying over tonight. many flights from LA are at night (I've flown on many of them muyself), arriving in the small hours. Plenty of time for a nap before JR's recording tomorrow evening.

Are we ready?!

Hey WDW! I saw the trailer on More4 in the middle of Jon stewart, so afterwards I put on More4 +1 in the hope that they would repeat the ads as well as the programmes and, what do you know, I was right! :D I'm sure you'll get to see it soon;)

You're probably right about Jake being on an overnight flight:) And yes, I'm ready, I'm always ready for Jake!
