Jake Gyllenhaal was out shopping with Reese and looking gorgeous at a farmer's market in the Pacific Palisades yesterday (Wednesday 12 March). While this sight would normally have me smiling away, it's awful to see that Jake has clearly injured his left ankle. Perhaps a good reason why we haven't seen Jake out and about for a few days. I suppose as a keen cyclist and sportsman injuries are bound to happen but I hope Jake's well on the mend. At least it didn't seem to spoil his shopping trip, buying healthy organic ingredients to put good those cooking skills that we've been talking about.
One thing got me wondering though - the Pacific Palisades farmers market is on a Sunday whereas the Santa Monica farmers market, which I went to the other week, is on a Wednesday - the Santa Barabara Pistachio Company sell there.

From Wikipedia:
Pacific Palisades is a district within the U.S. city of Los Angeles, California, located between Brentwood to the east, Malibu to the west, Santa Monica to the southeast, the Santa Monica Bay to the southwest, and the Santa Monica Mountains to the north. The area currently has about 27,000 residents. It is a very affluent and primarily residential area, with a mixture of large private homes, small (usually older) houses, condominiums, and apartments. It has a small central business district on Sunset Boulevard--consisting of restaurants, stores, banks, and offices--known as the "village." It also includes some large parklands and many hiking trails. Palisades Charter High School serves the neighborhood. It is known as "Where The Mountains Meet the Sea." Notable shops in the village include PaliSkate, Benton's Sporting Goods, Mort's Palisades Deli (now closed, but re-opening as the Village Pantry) and Village Books on Swarthmore Street.
The silly paps probably got the Markets mixed up since Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica and Brentwood seem to be all close.
They have been seen shopping in Santa Monica before so they were there yesterday, the Brentwood Market (where Reese lives) is open on a Saturday.
Hi there :D I'm glad it's not just me. I do think they've got the markets muddled up and, as you say, Jake's been to the Santa Monica one before and I can vouch for it being a great market. I saw some fruits there which I'd never seen before and would never know again...
maybe he has sprang his ankle... the hazard of cycling!
the farmers market looks nice. i love the one in Munich's Marienplatz too.
Hi Winterbird :D I have to fight the urge to want to wrap Jake up in cotton wool...
I love Munich! German markets are fabulous - I once went to a market down near Lake Constance and all the houses were decorated with sprigs of lettuce! Also I love the combination of good food stalls (although as a veggie much was wasted on me) and beer. When we send Jake off on his culinary tour of Europe, we'll have to get him to stop off down there.
Having sprained my left ankle many times, I can sympathize with Jake. Still, the fact that he can walk on it, and doesn't need crutches, makes me think that it wasn't super-serious. If he ever gets bitten by insects, cilantro juice and pulp will do the trick. ;-)
(Runs from blog)
Hey Paul - ahh the divisive herb. Yep it's good Jake can walk on it as I bet he gets pretty restless when he has to put his feet up.
Oh poor Jake!:( My maternal instinct is going into overdrive here! Shouldn't he be at home resting his ankle, not traipsing around crowded markets? Then again, I'm not a doctor and he looks happy enough, so what do I know? Get better soon, Jakey!!
Oh Sigh - shopping at a farmers market and walking around with a (large size) coffee is one of my fave things to do - and those daffodils and what is the other purple flowers? are beautiful! Oh, that lucky woman. I just went to a flower show and it was like walking in paradise for the day. Hope he didn't hurt his ankle too badly! :)
Thank you WTW and I Need a Life for all the infos about the Palisades, LA must be a beautiful place full of life and colors! And reading this name (Palisades) reminded me of Jake on Letterman's show, and all the laughters about the guy asking if he was from the Boo (hope I got this all thing right :P, in case I did not, sorry!)
I'm sorry about Jake's ankle being injured but as you say it doesnt seem a too serious thing, hope he'll be totally fine again soon ;) we miss our Jake running and cycling, dont we? ;D
They definitely look so happy...and I am happy for them, especially for him, since he's the one I adore... but I must confess I'll always be a little "jealous" of them :P please don't get angry at me, I know it's kind of childish, but I don't seem to be able to help it :-/ anytime I see her hugging him, touching him, and him being always so sweet to her, I can't help but thinking "God how I wish I could be her!"
...but then I see Jake smiling and I know that's what really matters :)
Yes, it's nice to see them happy. I feel a little green sometimes too, but also happy for them at the same time, if that makes any sense! I like the 5th pic the best, and of course the daffodils one. Gah, what a lucky woman. :)
Hi TL - that's a good point - he should put his feet up and let us wait on him :D My maternal instincts went through the roof the first time I saw these photos! And those aren't my normal instincts round Jake I can tell you ;D
Hey Bertie! I've just been out round a shopping village with a coffee but it just wasn't the same :( I like the flower photos too - the only flowers I can recognise are daffs and bluebells (oh and sunflowers) so I can't help you with the purple flower.
Hi Sonia! I miss seeing pics of Jake cycling and running too - Action Jake. I guess he won't be doing that for a few days. I tink it's perfectly ok to feel a little bit green :D
Hope everyone's having a good day - it's chucking it down here. I'm having a cocktail and fine food evening - wish you could all join me :D
I would be only too happy to wait on Jake. I would feed him the couscous I just made for lunch (divisive herb and all ;-)).
Hey sweet peeps! lookin' for daffodils in the local market these days.
The purple flowers look like lilacs. Although lilacs are really out of season, but hey, that's California!
Hey Paul see Jake on the Jonathan Ross show wherein both seemed not too crazy about couscous and tajines.
I thought so Pia, but I didn't think it was the season for them either. *Sigh* This is why I love California. I agree, PaulH, Jake's ankle doesn't look too serious, I hope anyway. :)
Hi, all! Had some serious computer problems for a few days, but I finally got them solved...until next time...my "granny" computer seems to be hobbling along OK, for now. I love shopping Farmers' Markets! They do look adorable.
An ankle sprain can be quite painful. I once had to completely immobilize for a few weeks! It might be a stress fracture. Those you can walk on and they aren't as painful. I read somewhere that Jake hurt himself while playing basketball very recently...and somehow, I don't think a game of
b-ball with Deacon and Ava Phillippe would be nearly as intense as one with a certain chef of Jake's accquaintance! :)
Hello Peeps. Naughty Jakey, schlepping round the market when he should be resting that ankle!
Sounds likely that Bobbyanna has picked up the most plausible explanation - shots of Jake and Chris playing basket ball have always looked boisterous and competitive as well as great fun!
Mind you,we're all here cooing and going all motherly imagining Jake may have hurt himself doing something macho and sporty and he might just as well have tripped over the doormat or shut it in the closet door or something. However he's done it,I'd still love the chance to make him lie on the sofa with that ankle elevated and pander to his every whim ;-)
RW should be insisting that he gets home and puts his feet up a.s.a.p.!
And,with your permission,WDW can I go completely off topic and tell all you lovely WDWers(sorry if I'm repeating myself to some of you) that I got a much longed-for letter today from my Consultant to say that all the junk she took out during my recent hysterectomy has been found to be non-cancerous.
As I'm physically incapable of doing an actual back-flip at the moment (not that I ever could anyway!)may I do a virtual cartwheel of delight and say thank you to WDW,all you lovely people and, of course, J.Gyllenhaal Esquire for helping to keep me as sane as I ever get throughout a very stressful time! (((Everyone)))
(((Nadine))) good news sweetie! :*
Wish I could deliver a huge bouquet of flowers to you, Nadine! This springtime if FOR YOU! Yay!
Big hugs from me and WDW, Nadine. xxx. Fab news. We have decided that it's worth one more cocktail!!! where's that hot barman...?! :D
xxx
That's really good news, Nadine.
To quote Jerry Seinfeld, there's no better sound in this world than when a doctor tells you "It's a benign".
I'm using an unfamiliar beast - an iphone _ can't do it! Wonderful news Nadine! Love to all _ back home soon to chat xx
I do hope Jake's ankle heals up okay.
trekfan
Woof woof, howlin' by the door, blog mistress out drinking, be home soon, she sez. right. gonna chew up the sofa pillows, see how she likes THAT. Grrrrooowwwwww. . .
Hi folks,
Aww, love the new pics! But Jake's injury..:( I wanna kiss it better. ;p Lucky Reese.
I think you are right, WDW, that they were probably at the Santa Monica market.
Also, thanks for the Jake travel post yesterday. I have such a travel bug and love to visit as many places as I can around the world. I have been fortunate to travel quite a bit already. Jake and the Gyllenhaal's are fortunate to be able to go where they want when they want. Jake seems to appreciate different cultures and places, like Morocco.
(((Nadine)), wonderful news for you, so glad you are okay.
Have fun together WDW and Ruby. Wish we could all join you!
Bad, Pia, baad Pia. ;)
Hi WDW and peeps:)
Great news Nadine, glad to know you're feeling so much better.
Our infamous Page six made a special inquiry about his gorgeousness's ankle and was told it was a basketball injury. The staff at Page6 call themselves Gyllenheads:):) I love it..they love him as much as we do.
And it's all good.
Jake's cast worries Page6 staff @ NY Post.com
HI everyone - back home! So why didn't y'all join us, eh? (those iPhone's are not easy...) We went Italian - it seemed like the right thing to do for a self-respecting Gyllenhaalic.
Gotta say - hate couscous - good to get that out of my system (in a manner of speaking).
Hi Bobbyanna! Glad you got the PC fixed. Basketball? It's that Chris again...
Hi Bertie, Trekfan and Winterbird:D Such good news, Nadine! I expect nothing less than non-stop Jaking from you now during your recuperation.
Hey Pissed Pia! I'm back, and a little pissed myself - our waiter was too slow so instead of a Chocolate Glory I had a margarita and a double whisky ;) Ruby had something far more glamorous and toxic - and icey!
Hi Get Real - I'm a traveller too and love to hear of where Jake gets away to. (I think he'd like it round here, to be honest...) I wish you were with us too :D
Hi Sass - thanks for the link. So it was basketball - I will never watch the sport again... Gyllenheads? I reckon I'll have one of those in the morning.
Glad you got home safely WDW :)
The bouquet of flowers at the market reminds me that Reese's birthday, BTW, is March 22. Mine is March 24. No lilacs this time of year in New England: maybe pussywillows.
Glad you got home safely WDW :)

Hey Pia - it's your birthday coming up! Over here it's all daffodils and irises - I love the first flowers of the year, beautiful colours.
I s'pose I should get off to bed - thanks, Ruby, for a lovely evening (although I'm never having a Raspberry Colonel again...)
Hello everyone,
Poor Jakey. I should have known that Basketball was the culprit. I also wish that he was at home with his foot up but it is always good to see him out and about.
I love daffodils. They are starting to pop out the the ground in my front yard. Yay spring is almost here.
Have a good sleep WDW.
Last but not least...
That is great news Nadine. I am so happy for you.
If Jake doesn't like couscous, then I am heartbroken. I must try to think of something else he might like. :-(
Aww....poor Jakey!! It's great to see new pics...not so great to see he's injured. But at least it's not serious...and he looks happy!
{{{Nadine}}} that is GREAT news!
[[[Nadine]]] As always I'm late with posts: I'm new here and we dont know each other, but wanted to tell you I'm really glad you are ok, that's really good news :)
Hi WDW and everyone, great post as always, good to see what a delicate man our Jakie is choosing flowers with his beautiful hands...*big sigh*
And a special hello to my good friend Sonia, alias *good girl*, I'm glad to see you finally join us! :-)
I'll be off from work for a week. going to spend Easter with my family with no internet connection so I wanted to say Happy Easter!!
xxxx Xenia
G'morning sweetpeas! Glad to hear daffs coming up somewhere.
Guess what, I dreamed I got Jake's e-mail address. it was JBG dot something. I was worried about him, he had moved from where he was to somewhere else after a difficult time, a scattereing of family, and I was told he was okay, and I should e-mail him so he couuld assure me, himself. I was pleased but not altogether surprised to realize that I had not lost contact with him.
What kind of stange Jake life am I leading, anyway?
Morning everyone! Running so late today, which is entirely the fault of trying to work my way through a substantial cocktail menu whilst also taking advantage of the shiraz and single malts. ut maybe due to the substantial amout of Jaking that went on, I have no hangover :D Just as well as I'm off out soon to battle with mammoths and giant birds in 10,000 BC.
Hi Bird Girl :D I suppose Jake had a day or two indoors and was ready for some fresh air. I love daffodils too - my favourite flower, they're everywhere round here now, just gorgeous.
Morning Paul!
Hi there Rosie - Jake looks pretty good, doesn't he. I love him in a white shirt too.
Hi Sonia - I'm delighted you joined us :DD
Hey Xenia - good to see you. Have a wonderful Easter (a week without the internet - oh my...). Italy at easter is such a great place to be - I remember spending easter there once touring around looking at the beautiful old churches, with the stunning paintings decorated with spring flowers. A very memorable trip - although not quite as memorable as our trip to Rome, my friend :)
Morning Pia! That's a great dream. I recall that Uli dreamt Jake's email address once, and several people had a go emailing it - so funny! Be great if you dreamt the same one... And it's good to hear how considerate Jake was. He's always a good mate to me in my dreams too.
Have a good day everyone - I'm hoping I'll enjoy 10,000 BC more than The Other Boleyn Girl even without loinclothed Jake.
Loinclothed Jake ... @______@ oh my...I won't be able to get this image out of my head for the rest of the day I think...I'm afraid I'll be re-watching Jarhead soon :P
So you didnt like The Boleyn Girl?(is it the one staring S. Johanson and N. Portman right?) I dont know when it will be released here, but I was curious to watch it :)
Btw, thank you WTW and Xenia for your warm welcome :-* I hope I'll be able to follow your blog and post as often as possible :) I'm going through a quite busy and not easy time, so the "Jake World" and all you beautiful people are my daily "happy island" :)
On a completely superficial note, Jake and Reese's looks compliment each other well. They are a great looking couple, and if or when, they do make a family, those kids will be gorgeous.
A very good Friday afternoon to all of you! Thank you so much to all you lovely people for joining me in celebrating my good health news.Much appreciated!
Happy Easter to you Xenia - spending time with your family will surely make up for a whole week with no Jaking. Have a lovely trip and we'll keep your seat warm while you're away ;-)
(((Sonia))),It's lovely to see another "new face" here, but I'm so sorry that you're having a hard time elsewhere in your life at the moment. Like me,you've found that you can rely on everyone here on WDW to keep your spirits up. Jaking as Therapy should be a recognised treatment for all sorts of trauma!
Talking of therapy, I'm off to immerse myself in some healing slash fic....see you lovelies later...
Jake and Reese look happy and contented, pity some people cannot be pleased for them.
Happy Easter, Xenia!
Is it just me, or is Jake looking especially virile in these pics at the farmers market? *Sigh* :)
'Jake and Reese look happy and contented, pity some people cannot be pleased for them."
Pity some anons cannot help themselves from disrespecting the feelings of others.
Well I thought is blog was about Jake, so surely if he is happy then his so called fans would be happy for him.
It's not just you Bertie! Actually that's one of the first things I've noticed about the pics :P :P :P
He looks greaaaaaaat doesnt he? Those broad shoulders and that chest drive me mad :P;D How beautiful it would be hugging him...and being hugged *double sigh*
(((Nadine))) Yes it's amazing how Jaking (I love this word, hope u dont mind f I borrow it ;D) and all the people loving him have helped me through this difficult time: actually I have often found more kindness, availability and help from people on the net, than from some people around me everyday :)
Hi everyone!
Just got back from seeing some big mammoths cause havoc - I think we would have disapproved of Jake's hair if he'd been in 10,000 BC - a bit too unkempt. Enjoyed myself, which is the main thing. Oh except for the guy who tried to drive me off the road... thanks, mate.
First off, anon 15:02, this is a happy Jake place. A flyby to cause a little trouble where there is none isn't very friendly, is it?
Hey Sonia - I'd do yourself a favour and miss The Other Boleyn Girl, or hold out for the DVD, it was a complete waste of an afetrnoon, although I did have a good icecream. Sorry to hear about your difficult time - I hope Jake and us can ease you through a little :)
Hi Anon 14:22 - nothing up with a superficial comment, I make them all the time :D
Hey Nadine - looking and sounding good! It's so great to have you back, too. I definitely second your opinion of Jaking Therapy - should be bottled and on the National Health (and hand delivered by Jake of course). Enjoy your reading ;D
Hi Bertie! I thought that too - particularly ahem virile... :D
Good to see you Pia :)
It was very convenient in 10,000 BC that most people could speak English.
Anon 15:43 - Snarky anonymous comments are too dull not to be deleted.
Hi Sonia! Jaking is the language of the site. What's especially nice is that quite a few of the people I've met here are now friends I meet. There are some lovely people :D
That page six thing made me laugh, very much the same tone as the Sky Entertainment website, who adore Jake and manage to work his name into about 90% of their stories
O/T Just incase anyone in the UK hasn't heard - little Shannon Matthews has been found alive and apparently well.
Hey Agent K - I love the Sky Showbiz girls! It's good how the Page Six gang have gone the same way - unavoidable I guess :D Good news about the little girl found.
Hi WDW, glad you got home safe and sound, considering how that guy was driving! I hate people who drive like idiots, that's when the so called road-range comes out of me!
I didnt know about the Jaking language, that's brilliant! I beg your pardon if sometimes I miss the meaning of things, it's both because I'm new and because english is not my mother language (unfortunately, 'cause I love it) :( :P
Thanks for the advice about the Boleyn Girl, I think I'll follow it and wait for it on DVD ;) if I don't get it wrong, you often go to the movies, are you maybe a Critic? (sorry if the question is stupid or too private, you're obviously free not to answer!)
And I'd like to say to the anynomous who says we're not happy for Jake, well I dont see people being unhappy for him here: if it was referred to me saying I'm kind of "jealous" of Reese, well that's just it, it means I'm happy for Jake, because he's CLEARLY happy with her, and a little unhappy for ME, since I can only dream of a man like Jake by my side! ;) And that's it.Full stop.
I think I am going to skip 10,000 BC, cos you know he's wrong - it's better if the mammoth is chasing Jake Gyllenhaal! lol... just kidding, hope you enjoy the film.
Amazon has sent me "American Gangstar" DVD... love myself some Russell Crowe action. I always think he most of his film choices correctly (well, keep working with Ridley Scott helps too). I wonder if Jake will eventually form such working relationship with a director. You know, like the muse for certain director. I would love it to be Fincher, of course, I don't think that's happening anytime soon. How about Sam Mendes? btw, he just finished the Rufus documentary... any news that Jake might be in it?
No Sonia I wasn't talking about you at all. Sorry if you thought I was.
Hi Sonia :D Don't worry about your English, it's great. As Xenia will vouch, my Italian is rubbish - well, it doesn't exist! I've got a couple of weeks off as I change jobs and so I've been entertaining myself with the movies - it's fun as usually I don't get the chance.
Hey Winterbird - there was some stuff about 10,000 BC which wasn't totally believable ;D And the hero did look rather grubby. But the mammoths were good and I wouldn't mind seeing Jake in a couple of those scenes, particularly when they were in the desert and it warmed up and the layers came off...
I can never make up my mind about Russell Crowe. But it's interesting how actors can stick with a director who suits them - Mendes clearly suited Jake so maybe they will be will work together again - I'm really looking forward to seeing the Rufus directory. I've no idea if Jake's in it or not, although Sam did apparently attend one gig of Rufus' with Jake.
Anonymous, please leave it there.
Oh, we are definitely happy now for them. These pics look good, like the Rome pics, only better, gets my oxytocin going just lookin' at him. Squeeee!! :)
Oxytocin? Blimey, sounds good! Can I have some? :D
Thank you WDW for your kind words about my English, I still have so much to learn, but this is a good place to do that too ;)
And sorry for my stupid question, I didn't mean to be intrusive, hope I didn't sound so :)
I'll be leaving my office in a few minutes, so in case I wont be online later tonight, I wish you all a great Friday evening (^_^)
XXXXX
WDW, would you is that on the rocks or neat? ;)
Have a great evening, Sonia - please, please don't apologise for your questions :D I love to chat!
Hi Anon, Neat please, no other way :D
Jake.. in the desert and it warmed up and the layers came off...
Have you been reading my draft for the sequel to Jarhead, WDW?:D
Glad you enjoyed 10.000 BC, but that's a shame about The Boleyn Girl, Phillipa Gregory's books about the Tudors are great holiday reading I find, and I was hoping this film would be good:( Was it as bad as that BBC thing with Jonathan Rhys Wotsit as Henry VIII? I remember seeing something ages ago somewhere on the net about how Jake was scientifically proven to be the actor who was most physically ideal to play Henry VIII. Don't see it myself, just thought I'd mention it so as not to be completely off topic:D.
So good to see you here Nadine, I'm so happy and relieved for you. And welcome Sonia/Good Girl - your English is brilliant,I wish I could speak Italian half as well:)
Diff'rent oxytocin strokes for diff'rent folks, that's for sure. Lumberjake leaves me cold. To each his own said the ole lady as she kissed the cow.
Rufus doing Judy Garland is listed on Netflix as a long, long wait - why cant NFlix just make more copies? Also Bladerunner, the Final Cut, has long, long wait.
Unlike Jake, Im not a Rufus fan, he's not my mother, as he likes to say, haha - but he's very good, I like him and loved seeing him with Jake.
I would like to see Jake work with a woman director. Interested to see how Susan Bier's "Brothers" story is interpreted by Jim Sheridan and scriptwriter and cast.
I dont fancy Jake and Fincher at all. As Ang Lee said of photgraphing Jake - he's difficult - I think also his particular gifts are complex and also his personality - I am admittedly very critical and demanding of both script and direction. Perfect storm of orig. story and director happened in BBMt, and a pretty good match in Donnie Darko. My favorite possible future project for Jake is the Joe Nameth story - such an opportunity for satire on celeb culture!
Hope all you sweetpeeps have a great weekend!
Hi TL! Good to hear you're working on the sequel for Jarhead and that you're fitting in our usual requirements and necessary scenes. But more hair please this time, OK?
TOBGirl was just about as bad as the BBC thing. Bana wore outfits so wide I'm surprised he could fit through any doors while the Boleyn girls just heaved their bosoms and pouted. I just can't see Jake as Henry VIII at all! More of a medieval monarch on a horse perhaps - off crusdaing for example. But 10 out of 10 for keeping Henry VIII on topic :D
Hi Pia - I have the CD of Rufus doing Judy and although I absolutely adore Rufus, seen him and got all his albums, this was my least favourite. Mr WDW couldn't deal with it at all! But I do love him and I love what a good fan Jake is.
Jake had a very good match with Richard Kelly, and I did like what Fincher brought out of Jake myself. Obviously Ang just knew how to film Jake. I just can't wait for Brothers :)
Hey WDW! My preferences where Jake's hair is concerned are well documented, so you have no worries on that score - expect plenty of not in any way gratuitous topless shots;D *sigh* I wish I really could make a living dreaming up ways to make Jake get his kit off:(
I like the thought of Medieval Jake on a horse:D Not as much as Cowboy Jake on a horse, but still...;)
Phew TL, I was worried for a sec, but if you allow Jake a proper haircut then that's fine :D I wish you'd get hired for the job!
