Jake Gyllenhaal is InStyle's perfect Goodfella

With grateful thanks to the woman sitting in front of Twisted Logic on the bus this morning - a woman whom TL wrestled to the floor of the upperdecker (and bendy?) vehicle in order to wrestle her magazine from her clenched fists, having caught a glimpse of a certain handsome young Hollywood actor peering out from page 100 - here is that page from a magazine with taste. The UK's InStyle June issue has selected 10 'Goodfellas' and there on the opening page of the feature, is Jake Gyllenhaal from one of our favourite photoshoots.

The theme of the selection is hot and stylish but I have grave fears at how Jake is being perceived in this comment: 'His style: laid back California cool, off-screen he's often seen in vintage plaid shirts.' Let's focus on the white t-shirts and jeans, please. The other men featured are Ryan Gosling, Simon Woods, Djimon Hounsou, Shia LaBoeuf, Casey Affleck, Eric Bana (please, no), Leo Gregory, Emile Hirsch and Ben Whishaw. Both TL and I found copies today that were accompanied by the silver fliplops - if anyone finds a black pair we can talk numbers...

Following the popularity of a recent picture posted here of Jake's shopping methodology - ie, stripping in front of a window to try something on - here is another one. This practice is to be encouraged in Jake.

Nailed on hold rumour

I'm sure we've all heard the rumour today that, hot on the heels of the signing of James Brolin and Kirstie Alley, Nailed has been delayed on account, apparently, of financial issues. Time will tell if this is true and, if it is, how soon it can be resolved, but I'm prepared to be sceptical about the nature and motives of the 'knowledgeable sources'. At the moment, this is the only source and we all know how these things catch fire.

'Jake, find out what's going on!', yells Jessica:

Talking of rumours, Jake has now replaced Orlando Bloom on the Prince of Persia IMDb page as the film's 'rumoured' star.

Edit: Thanks Nicole, for the comment from Fitsnews, which, like all other rumours from the set that is Nailed, should be taken with a jug of salt: 'the movie was only shut down for the day and it was on Friday (we had extras at the State House on Friday)…I hear they are back to filming starting possibly Monday and definitely Tuesday. I work in the State House and they have filmed a lot there and will be back Monday or Tuesday we are told.' Hopefully, we'll know more at the start of next week.

Design on a Dime, the Metropolitan way

If anyone needed Design on a Dime it's me, so I was interested to see that Maggie Gyllenhaal attended the Design on A Dime charity cocktail party and auction, co-chaired by Housing Works Thrift, at the Metropolitan Pavilion on Thursday night last week. The display featured rooms by over 30 designers, with the room contents being put up for sale with 80% off and the proceeds going to the AIDS organisation Housing Works. You can also see some of the rooms here, not to mention the lovely Maggie herself in a dress I want (is that going for a dime?). I'm not sure which room I'd prefer, but I would have thought the yellow option could distract a lot of attention away from a shabby sofa.

At the same event, Maggie was asked by the New York Mag how she was getting on with decorating her new home in Park Slope: '"We're still really in the process of — so far, most of the design things that we've chosen are not actually furniture choices as much as tiles and fixtures and that kind of thing," she said, eating a mini-burger. (She'd been shooting a Marie Claire Batman cover all day, and girlfriend was tired and hungry.) "I kind of need to get another movie before I furnish it."'

Mental note that Maggie will be featured on a Marie Claire cover - I have to say that this idea of doing a job to furnish your house is a little out of my league. It also makes me think a Batman sequel may be on the cards. When Maggie was asked what she thought of Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly leaving her neighbourhood, she let slip that, "To be honest, I'm thinking in the next few years of moving even further away." Like … to Gowanus? we asked. "To the country," she said, just before her publicist told us that the house tour was over." You know what this means - Peter Sarsgaard has raved so much to Maggie about the beauty of Oxford and the warm reception he received there, that he is uprooting his entire family - brother-in-law and all (especially brother-in-law) - to the dreamy spires.

OMG.... I'd pay good money to see TL wrestled with that innocent bus passanger! :P

I have to go out and get a copy myself later today then... hubby will roll his eyes, no doubt, but i can always lie that I buy it for the flip-flops :)

I don't know what to make of the "nailed" on-hold rumour yet.... like you said, we can just wait and see.

hey, if jake likes to flaunt his (perfect) body some times, who in the right mind would complain?? :)

Hi Winterbird - good to see you :D You know TL, if it involves getting her mitts on Jake, no passenger or passerby is safe - I can say this as she can't get online til later :D

They're very shiny flipflops - at this rate there could be a mass of Gyllenhaalics wearing them :) Get the black - it's so hard to wear anything to match the silver...

It's kind of Jake to flaunt his body at all opportunities, especially when I have a fever :D

Hope you're enjoying the hot sunshine.

G'Saturday, sweetpeeps! Sun's out, where are the lilacs? Not yet. What's lovelier than lilacs risin up out of the dead land - y'all know! Sorry but I csnt take any more of Jake shedding clothes -maybe I need some algae shakes. Or somethin'. Watched a little BBMt last night and I still am absolutely open-mouthed and aghast at the beauty of these young men.

Spring fever. Sing it, babe!

Also "too much" - worrying about JBG's career. Must practice detachment. Teach me. O Lord! to focus on my own brilliant career.

Maggie my love, d'you mean we've gotta watch some stupid "movies" just so you can furnish your B'klyn
brownie? And please stop wearing these idiot outfits just because you can get away with it! I love you BUT. . .

A little HOS-tile there, Pia? Yeah all these seven mil ranch houses and horse stables and brownstones and "I gotta make another movie to afford my shopping habit" - is gettin' on my nerves! And Im not kidding!

Maybe I oughtta go to Italy and cobble shoes for a few years, or become a Buddhist monk or nun or - or - gosh does Jake have something in his contract that he doesn't get screw'd if a film hits the dust?

Sorry for venting. I am a wee bit upset by this rumor -

What other rumors upset me? Oh the Donnie Darko business. Must detach from that, too. Donnie was NOT schizo, ignorant people please keep your mitts off DD

"I see by your face that you hate the world. I hate the world, too."

Yeah, Im in a Holden Caulfield mood today, for sure.

ROFL at the first part of the post!:D You'll be hearing from my lawyers very soon;D In fairness, I WOULD have wrestled the woman to the floor of the (single decker, non bendy) bus if she hadn't told me which mag she was reading in reply to my polite enquiry.I'll put your confusion down to you not being well (hope you're better soon, btw:) so maybe we can settle out of court - a public apology and topless Jake pics for a month will be fine;D

So having experienced first hand how totally untrue internet rumours can appear out of nowhere and spread like wildfire, I'm trying not to worry too much about Nailed and hope it will all work out in the end:)

Hey (((Pia)))! Sounds like you could do with a hug today. I watched some BBM last night too - you're right, no matter how many times I watch certain scenes (and SNIT must be approaching a thousand by now),the beauty and intensity never fades. I get shivers down my spine every single time...*sigh*

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

Awwww (((Pia))) I have Holden Caulfield type of days quite regularly, so I empathise!

I'm also with you on the "No to DD2!" front, likewise in the "I really hope Nailed doesn't get shelved!" department :-( I think being a Jake-fan is,a bit like being a Mother - you just never stop worrying about him...must admit, however, the feelings engendered by that topless shopping photo are anything but maternal ;-)

Speaking of which,(((WDW))),if you've still got a fever, then that photo is probably the last thing you need to be looking at as you were asking for tips on how to REDUCE a fever in the last thread. Apart from the gargling and swallowing of soluble aspirin I recommended last night, you need to be sponged down with a cool sponge at regular intervals. Sadly I think J.Gyllenhaal is busy with other things at the moment so won't be able to oblige.

Stuff the flip-flops,I'd just love to be able to get my hands on a copy of June's "Instyle" mag! Must ask my friend TL to mug a passer-by for another one ;-)

And I'm back with Pia on the Maggie front. Love her to bits but the dress would look much more becoming if it were a foot or so longer - and I'm hoping that her remark about needing to get paid for another film before she can furnish the Brownstone was tongue in cheek, otherwise it would be a tad disingenuous to imply that impecunity will mean sitting on packing crates and eating gruel until she can land another job. A worthy charity she's supporting though - good on yer girl!

thanks for hugs ! ! ! Nadine and TL I REALLY do need and appreciate these - and yeah being "a mother" (re: jake) and ALSO a woman with womanly needs - its a bitch, for sure!

and besides, he doesnt "really" belong to me - (not? but he swore. . . etcetcetc)

go watch Goya's Ghosts, pia. (okay)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey ((((Pia)))) Jake does stir up a conflict of emotions, particularly in the wake of a BBM viewing. And yes he makes us worry.

I'm fighting some indignation with the Maggie interview myself and hoping she was misquoted or misrepresented because that kind of attitude won't win a lot of love - from those who earn less than megabucks anyway.

The rumour is very unsettling and the sooner everything is sorted out the better but who knows what is going on in that odd project? I prefer to wait to find out more. I asked Lisa today if she'd been aware of anykind of rumblings when she was there two nights ago and she said it had seemed like business as usual with very long shooting days. Wrap yourself up, (((Pia))) - do forgive my highly infectious hugs...

I would like to apologise on behalf of WDW for any upset caused to Twisted Logic and Lady on Bus for any upset that may have been caused by today's post. Hee hee!! You mean that's not what your text said, TL?? I was sure it went along the lines of wrestling this poor woman to the floor. Thanks for clearing up that it was single decker and not bendy - I seem to have got the facts wrong there. Always happy to oblige with topless pics of Jake, especially if he should model them for me.

Hi Nadine - I know, maybe we worry too much :D But then if we didn't then it wouldn't be right... (you ca tell I've been listening to Bob Dylan today).

Yep, still got a stinking fever and big aches and pains and unfortunately noone to sponge me this evening. Sleep and soup are all I've managed this afternoon. Shame Jake can't pop round to cut up that huge pineapple that Mr WDW left me with...

You wouldn't say 'stuff the flipflops' if you saw them :)

Hope everyone's having a good evening :D

hwy WDW - YOU'RE sick? - who in their right mind has their fridge posted with pix of nekkid Jake? you may be sick but Im CRAZY -

(bad day at black rock)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Pia - I can think of far worse things to have on my fridge door. Sorry you're having such a bad day, doesn't sound like fun. I'd share my grapes with you if I could :)

sass said...

Afternoon over there WDW, friends and afternoon over here too:)

Pia, I know...Maggie, I love you but...oh well...I can't talk, ever:)

The rumor person--is a respected journalist--I usually check her for industry news-- which makes me very nervous, so I'll have a chocolate chip cookie or two:lol. Maybe Nailed should have been made in Mass.
Here's hoping this gets resolved. I'm ready for Prince of Persia to begin filming...and I'm a little worried about that film too since a strike is imminent with talks breaking down last week, even though it's set to go. arrrgh!
I'm looking forward to lots of Jake movies in 2009...similar to 2005.
Bundle up and feel better Kate:)
xoxoxo to everyone,
sass

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sass :D Thanks for the get well wishes x I'm not up to worrying about any of these projects today so I'll just keep my fingers crossed that all will be resolved. Does it effect anything I wonder that PoP may not be filming in America? I'm looking forward to a Jakerich 2009 too, so much :) Hope you're having a good evening :D

"The theme of the selection is hot and stylish but I have grave fears at how Jake is being perceived in this comment: 'His style: laid back California cool, off-screen he's often seen in vintage plaid shirts.'" [WDW]

Deep down, I bet you *adore* plaid, WDW. ;-)

Last night I dreamed that I had two room mates. Jake was one of them, but he rarely showed up. :-(

Maggie is ocnsidered a fashion icon in New York City. We *know* that New Yorkers are, well, unique in their inclinations and tastes. The rest of the world can puzzle about why they do what they do. I don't mind the dress she's wearing in the picture, but somehow I wish there were some other way to wear her hair.....

I don't care what she does to her house. I don't care what she says about how she's going to pay for it. Is there no comment so small or insignificant that it can fly under the radar? I would like a new house too, and you're dern tootin' I would need big bucks in order to afford it. I'd need another job (in addition to the one I already have, so there goes my 8 hours of sleep 5 nights a week). I'd give Maggie extra points for candor. On the other hand, it's not a big deal. it just isn't. But if anyone knows how I can get cast in the next Batman movie...;-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Paul! my plaid secret is out.... ;D Bad news about Jake the flat mate in your dream - I hope he paid his share of the bills on time though :) I've always liked Maggie's candour and expressiveness myself; I suppose that inevitably leads to saying a wrong thing, as do we all. I do quite like the dress though :D I suppose I could do barwork in the evenings to pay for some new curtains...

hey everyone! so I was looking on fitsnews.com and this was a comment left by someone..
"the movie was only shut down for the day and it was on Friday (we had extras at the State House on Friday)…i hear they are back to filming starting possibly Monday and definitely Tuesday. I work in the State House and they have filmed a lot there and will be back Monday or Tuesday we are told."
I hope she's right! that will be great news!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Nicole, you know how to make a gal feel better :D Great news.. maybe they should save some pennies by cutting down on the umbrellas? I'm gonna add that comment, thanks Nicole :D

Nicole said...

you're welcome! they can hire me to hold Jake's umbrella for free!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Good point, Nicole! As our ears and eyes on the ground (in a manner of speaking) do keep an eye on what is going on there. Are you able to pop down and see if they're filming at the start of next week?

style note. "vintage plaid" - ??? - next our boy will be wearing "vintage chenille" ? ? ? crinoline, even? may I first drop dead, do not come to my funeral, Jacobo darlin'

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Pia - fortunately, I don't think we'll be seeing Jake in vintage crinolines anytime soon, taffeta and velvet maybe ;D

It's really great Jake is so busy working! 2009/2010 we'll have Jake movies galore. :)
Michelle Williams' movie "Synechdoche" will be presented at the Cannes film festival and her upcoming movie with Scorsese and Leo will be huge for her.
I'm glad that our BBM darlings are doing fine! :)

Sandy

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sandy :D That's great news for Michelle! - she'll be an asset to Cannes which just won't feel the same this year :)

vintage see-through Sultan-ware - not! Football athletic pants and mink coat - yeah!

How about tartan flares or hawaiian shorts and green/orange crocs. These passion killers will get your temperature down WDW :DD Hope you're feeling better. Chuck us one of those pineapple chunks will ya and a couple of grapes while yer at it.

I had to laugh at your description of TL and could just imagine the reaction of seeing a picture of Jake over someone's shoulder and resisting the temptation of snatching it out of their hands.

Nicole's account sounds promising and it makes me wonder why certain 'sources' are trying to create even more negativity about this project. Is this the norm? In a way, it's like sabotage. I think they may have a problem putting a 'lable' on this project as it seems to be organic and shape-shifting. The quirkier, the better to my liking, although I acknowledge it will not be to everyone's taste.

Likewise, I'm not interested in films I will only see once and never have another thought about them. I want those I can watch again and again... that teach me something I hadn't considered before. These are real treats when you find these rare moments in cinema and I'm grateful for them all.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Pia :D I like the way your mind's heading!

Hi Sheba - I'd love to chuck you a pineapple chunk but it's still encased within a pineapple hide and a crest on top - can't get into the beast! I've got a half-eaten orange, you can have some of that :D

I've been amazed by the hostile 'rumours' and some nasty comments coming out of the Nailed set from insiders. I don't know what their agenda has been - unless to create trouble for Russell - and I've not seen it before on one of Jake's films. It does almost feel like sabotage to me too, as a result I'm sceptical of anything.

There aren't too many films like that, are there? The ones you want to see over and over. Fortunately, Jake does 'em :D

I mentioned earlier I just saw Romance amd Cigaretts, directed by John Turturro with James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Chris Walken - poor reviews - I loved it! goes to show. . .

twistedlogic said...

Thank you for your apology, WDW:) I will instruct my legal team to call off the libel action :D

Thanks also to Nicole for the update on Nailed - hope it is the case that it's business as usual on Monday. The whole Nailed thing just gets more bizarre by the day, the behind the scenes story sounds like it could be a film in itself! Jake probably thought he'd seen it all until he started on this one. Still, I'm sure he's taking it all in his stride:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Pia, what a cast, I do like Kate Winslet particularly.

Glad you accept the apology, TL, phew :D You're right about Nailed - the whole thing, making it and the film itself could be one movie. But I'm sure Jake is just focusing on the job at hand.

Night all :D

Nicole said...

hopefully i'm going to go one more time next week before my classes start again..

Glad we got that sorted, WDW! I was getting worried about Boris sending his new Bus Police officers round;D
Hope you feel better tomorrow:)

Good luck for next week, Nicole!

Good news!!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Nailed:)

Chloe Sevigny is considered a NYC style icon too, though fashion writers always complain about her choices. I personally love her choices. Her Cannes outfit and gorgeous legs remain forever imprinted in my brain :lol. Maggie can do no wrong in my book even if I can't see myself buying and wearing some of her choices.

Kate, are you having allergy problems? Our allergy season is in full swing and my son and so many other people are miserable. I just got back from the drugstore and could barely find Allergy/Cough medicine or tissues on the shelves. arrrgh.
Take care of yourself:)

Morning everyone! You're all in luck - I've completely lost my voice :D

Good luck to you, Nicole :D

Hey TL, the bus cameras will be keeping a beady eye on you in future ;D There'll go, oh there's that Jake fan, you gotta watch her...

Hi Sass! Good new indeed. I'm a big fan of Chloe Sevigny (except when the skirts are way way too short), she looks so composed, elegant and different. Thanks for the allergy tips, unfortunately I fear this is a minor dose of flu but I do feel a little better this morning :D

Have a great day everyone - it looks beautiful out there :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I just read the latest update to the Nailed drama, which all seems as bizarre as the film's plot, and I'm focusing on all the hopeful references to filming continuing next week.

paulh said...

Pia, I'm with you regarding a sequel to "Donnie Darko." Be afraid, be veyr afraid. The only silver lining is that Maggie might her role as Elizabeth. But she doesn't really need this; she can find other roles.

Jake has worn plaid in at least 4, and possibly 5 movies. I'm collecting these pics in a file in my computer.
