Nailed's nighttime shoots - another report from the set of Jake's film

Many thanks to an exhausted Lisa who just sent me her report from last night's shoot on Nailed, which involved her daughter as one of the 'squaws'. Unfortunately, the scene ended up being postponed but this report gives us a great idea of what goes on behind the scenes of Jake Gyllenhaal's new movie - so much of it takes place at night. No wonder Jake and the other stars have such comfy trailers. And the great news is that it is very likely this very lucky girl scout's scene will involve ALL the stars, and you know what that means! Lisa writes brilliantly, putting us right there in SC, so I'm sure you'll enjoy her report:

'The call time for my daughter's group of squaws was 7 pm last night. I had hoped it'd be earlier, but evidently Russell and his crew are making the most of the daylight and are trying to get in anything involving outdoors scenes while the sun is shining. So interiors are likely to be shot at night.'

'We arrived, did the boring employment paperwork, went to Wardrobe, got the girls dressed, hung around awhile, were taken to the catering tent and hung around some more (thankfully with food and beverages) and waited, waited, waited. The girls (13 in all) became friends and organized themselves into games. If you could harness the energy possessed by a pack of tween-age girls about to 'go Hollywood,' you could put the oil companies out of business. Everyone was tired, but we were excited, too. However.....'

'At approximately 10.40 pm (note the time!), the wonderful production assistant who was in charge of us came in and sweetly apologized that they were NOT going to be able to get to our scene last night. Whatever scene Russell had been filming since before we arrived was going to go on, and on, and on, perhaps into eternity. She did mention that he is meticulous, which made me smile! She told us our girls would be paid for last night (hurrah!), and would be called to come for this scene again when it was rescheduled. She said the scene our girls'll be doing involves 6 pages of dialog (apparently, that's a lot) and ALL THE STARS (please lord, let her not have been exaggerating or babbling out of pure weariness!). The girls will be sitting with Jessica in a council meeting. Since there are so few of them, chances are good that our girls will get actual "face time" on camera. And with that, she helped us finish up and called the vans to take us back to our cars.'

'So, Munchkin and I will be going back, though we don't know when. I did not see Jake but I spent probably twenty minutes total hanging out within 10 feet of his trailer. There was a dim light on inside, but no sign of life. I did not know if he was in the scene being shot or just wasn't there at all. However, what the assistant said made me think if he wasn't in that scene, he was getting some rest someplace till needed.'

'I saw Catherine Keener. She was wearing a pastel skirt suit and bedroom slippers (!) and had her hair in a retro, frosted, newscaster-gone-awry 'do. She was sitting in the doorway of her trailer as we walked to Wardrobe early on. I think she was trying to memorize lines or something; she appeared to have an Ipod with her. We also thought we saw Jessica Biel, all dressed down and coming back from taking her dog for a walk. We saw her enter a trailer, but never saw her come out. I'm guessing Jake and Jessica were taking the opportunity to get some rest. There seems to be so little chance for it in movie-making.'

And here is a message from Lisa to you all: 'Please give my best regards to all the nice Gyllenhaalics who responded so positively to it in the comment section. I really aim to share as much of the experience as I can with other fans of Jake, for as long as they're interested. He seems to attract the nicest people!' I think it's safe to say we're interested! Thanks, Lisa.

Incidentally, I do not believe that these new pictures from Fitsnews (I think from Wednesday) show Jake and Jessica Biel arguing - this looks far more to me like both are trying to convey something through Jake's phone, and possibly Jessica's, all at the same time.

You can see another picture of Jake on set here, along with an extra's account of the shoot inside a church - I didn't know Alison Janney was in Nailed. This film gets better and better!

As for future Nailed shoots - according to IMDb: 'Movie watch: Sumter Street closed today. Sumter Street in Columbia, between Gervais and Pendleton streets, will be closed today until 2 a.m. Tuesday and from noon Wednesday until 2 a.m. Thursday for the filming of a movie, according to the Columbia Police Department.'

And finally - Donnie Darko 2?

I'll come back to this, but it seems a Donnie Darko 2 is on the cards. This will focus on Donnie's little sister's story but the project will not involve Jake (not surprisingly, I suppose, considering the end of the original version) but it also won't involve the driving force behind Donnie - Richard Kelly. Rather humourously, the article states that the film will be directed by Chris Fischer (later becoming Fisher) but I doubt this is the one who likes to cook. According to another report, the only actor to repeat their role will be Daveigh Chase. I think I may give this one a miss.

Pictures from Nicole, IHJ and Fitsnews.

wow all this information is so exciting! I seriously can't believe all this is going on in my hometown! I would have never thought in a million years that they would shoot a movie here with my all time favorite actor..crazy! Another great report from Lisa! I hope to go down there one more time next week before I have to start school all over again..

I think that a *lot* of people's favorite actors are in "Nailed." Sounds like a good ensemble cast.

Thanks for another brilliant report, Lisa and WDW! Sorry to hear about the scene being postponed, but it sounds like your next trip up there will more than make up for it. Fingers crossed for you:)

One word about the DD sequel:No.

Am I learning more than I want to know about lensing a story? I dunno! Hot and sweaty, endless shoots, guys with umbrellas on yr tail -

This must drive directors crazy, too. If I were a director, Id ban family friends and dogs - I'd say, hey, their ass is mine for the duration. Id take 'em to Alberta or Morocco. Make them stay in character 24/7.

WDW is there a directors commentary on Im Not There? My DVD is in transit, havente seen it yet and so looking forward to what I hear is a brilliant film. And of course, Heath. I do not cry anymore when seeing him, Ive done my cryin' I guess - I so love him, and the gift of his art and presence!

Hi Nicole! It certainly is exciting and there should be more to come :D You are so lucky!

Hey Paul - definitely quite a cast and I cannot wait to see this film. It took a while but now I'm wn over :D

Hi TL! I think the postponement will pay off in the end. And certainly agree about DD2, some things should not be ...

Hope everyone's having a good evening - I'm poorly in bed (being waited on fortunately) so popping in between naps :) Nothing like all this to put a smile on the face though :D

twistedlogic said...

Sorry to hear you're not well ((WDW))) I'm sure Mr WDW is taking good care of you:)

And if you're reading, Jake, how about cheering WDW up -go out and get yourself papped with your shirt off;D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Pia - posting at the same time :D This whole Nailed thing is just not what we're used to with Jake - look how quiet the sets of Brothers and Rendition were by comparison, although there were bits and pieces from New Mexico - and Zodiac - that went on forever and there was hardly a peep from it even though it was filmed in major cities. But I suppose closing down this part of Columbia and shooting day and day around the main buildings - plus using so many extras in external scenes. Bound to catch attention.

I'm Not There has two DVDs and there's a commentary with Todd Haynes - and on-screen song lyrics!! The second disc, which I've not seen yet, includes outtakes, auditions, making the soundtrack, the premiere, deleted scenes and a 'conversation with Todd Haynes' - no making of feature as such.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

TL - thanks for that :D Mr WDW is feeding me icecream and little glasses of beer!

And, Jake, that's an excellent idea - it would be the kind thing to do....

Re: Im Not There - effin' WOW -Im a MAJOR Dylan fan, consider him a SAINT - can't wait! Well I guess I can I guess I can. (Little Engine that Could)

p.s. ice cream and beer! Major yuck! (in all due non-respect this is going too far)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Pia - I never liked Bob Dylan when I was younger because my parents loved him so I rebelled and went punky! But this film has given me huge appreciation of songs, many of which I didn't know were by Dylan, and I've been playing them over an dover for the last few months.

Ice cream and beer does have its up points when you have a very very sore throat!

Anonymous said...

I dunno WDW I recommend orange juice and vodka and - of course - Jake.

twistedlogic said...

Beer and ice cream...Is that your idea of alternative medicine,WDW?:D

I'm so tempted now to get I'm Not There! I was going to wait until the UK version comes out (well actually, the state of my bank account made the decision for me) but you're all making me want to watch it NOW! I know overdrafts are only supposed to be used for emergencies, but...

I am SO loving these excellent reports of an excellent adventure in Columbia!!! You guys are really wonderful!!!

My youngest daughter and I got to be extras once in another century ages and ages ago when Harrison Ford and Brian Dennehey came to town to shoot Presumed Innocent.

It was a restaurant scene and we ended up on the proverbial cutting room floor:) The BIG THRILL was when Harrison Ford walked past us, and said, "Hi, Laura!" to my daughter, whom he'd met with a zillion other people the day before. He spoke first! I thought that was pretty classy.

He's a very ordinary looking man you'd pass on a street and never notice. Unlike Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal who would turn heads even if he was "just" a civilian!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Pia md - I only have vodka in the place and no oj :D

I've actually spent the evening lying here watching I'm Not There again and just loving it. Mr WDW seemed to like it too. And Heath is so damn sexy in it.

TL - this counts as an emergency - the UK edition might not have all the great extras on it :D This time next year we'll all have the Brothers DVD...

TL! You're looking good :D Love the Jarhead look.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Bobbyanna :D It's great getting reports from the field as it were. Should've known you'd been in the movies ;D Love Harrison Ford. I remember when I was a teenager watching Spielberg and Christian Bale filming Empire of the Sun and it seemed to involve the whole town. Yep, Jake would always turn heads - he turned all of ours :D

Hey, WDW and chums.

Sorry you are not feeling well WDW. Hope that clears up soon. Keep it up with the ice-cream. :) But beer with it? ick.

Thanks Lisa for the wonderful accounts from Nailed. Looking forward to hearing about the 'recall'

Have a good weekend everyone. *-)

WDW!!! You watched Speilberg AND Christian Bale shoot Empire of the Sun?????!!!!!
Which was one of my alltime favorite movies when I first discovered the enormous talent of one Christian Bale, who, aged 12, had to play against John Malkovich, Miranda Richardson, etc.

Amazing, amazing movie. Anyone who hasn't seen it M.U.S.T. OMG, you SAW them actually shooting it!!! Where did they shoot?

That is absolutely beyond the coolest thing you ever divluged, and you have divluged many cool things! And I can't even be jealous, bcz you are such a swetheart! :) :) :)

twistedlogic said...

Hey WDW! You've convinced me- I've just ordered INT from playusa :D

I couldn't find any details about the UK release so I thought I'd better not chance it! And besides it's only 2 quid more expensive than the UK one and Amazon have it due for release here in July, and I definitely can't wait that long.

Glad you like the avvie pic - as soon as I saw that pic I knew I had to have it;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Ruby - there's not a muscle in my body that doesn't ache and Mount Etna has a lower temperature than me right now... :( Following all your advice, I shifted from the ice cream and beer to ice cream and tequila :D

But things could be a lot worse than lying in bed all weekend Jaking :D You all have to keep me entertained with copious Jake!

Good to hear from you, Ruby, I'm looking forward to more from Lisa and I hope they get the hotcall soon.

Hi Bobbyanna! Yep, this is many moons ago - all the Singapore posh house/street scenes were filmed in the Victorian part of the town where I was living at the time - Knutsford in Cheshire (where Elizabeth Gaskell was from - Knutsford is Cranford). I was walking round town at school lunch and saw an ad in the Jobcentre window for extras - 'for a Spielberg film'. But you had to cut your hair (and I had a mohican at the time, so not entirely suitable for the 1930s!). So I went along to watch and saw Spielberg and boy Bale running around by the huge Victorian houses. Very exciting for a small town in the northwest. Oxford we're more used to it. I remember Spielberg being very kind and chatting to everyone.

Thanks for the sweetheart thing :D That makes me feel better.

Good for you, TL. I don't know how you resisted so long and Playusa are so efficient and no postage. The UK edition could have noting on it... July? That's terrible.

I do love your avvie :)

Hey (((WDW))), sorry you're feeling so rotten (puts Dispenser's hat on - as long as you're able to take aspirin, gargling with a dose of the soluble variety before swallowing it can really help a very painful throat). Glad Mr.WDW is giving you plenty of TLC :-)

What another brilliant report from my girl Lisa! It must have been so tiring for her and all the kids involved (and she'd have to be up at the crack of dawn for work this morning)but it must have been fascinating nonetheless. Moreover, the promise of the rescheduled scene involving all the stars, and thereby hours on end of Jake doing take after take just yards away from her, must be all the incentive she needs to keep schlepping back up to Columbia on zero sleep to give Lisa Junior the chance of a place in the final cut of "Nailed"! I am so excited for both of them!

It does seem that the "Nailed" shoot is much more open than recent Jake-projects,but then we also have our secret weapons this time, the intrepid Nicole and super-scoop Lisa, our roving reporter with the inside information! We are SO lucky to have their despatches here!

Great post WDW..and thanks to Lisa for the fine report from the set...
I just have one comment..."NO DONNIE DARKO SEQUALS....PUHLEEEEEZE!!" I almost screamed when I saw this story on the net today...UGH!! Say it ain't so...
Cheers...Michele

Feel better WDW. Robert Downey Jr has a guy that follows him around with pills, making smoothies from fresh fruit and algae shakes. Maybe Mr WDW. . . no, I wont go there.

xxxxxpia

Anonymous said...

With all Robert Downey, Jr's put his body thru, I'd think he needs all the algae he can get...:)

WDW. Gargle with listerine. You must get some mentholyptus cough drops and dissolve them in black tea with lots of honey and lemon and drink it all down. Don't eat any more ice cream. Dairy is bad for you right now. Except you can have yogurt. Feel better.

Two years ago when I got a severe strp infection, I stopped smoking. I have so much more disposable income, I started eating and eating, all the things I loved.(38 pounds!)

I loved the scenes in the posh neighborhood. Now I know where to find the neighborhood...if I ever get to the UK.

I loved INT when I saw it at TIFF. I saw it twice more, but I haven't purchased the DVD yet. I will, tho.

Was ambushed last night when A Knight's Tale suddenly appeared on my TV. Decided to watch it. My God,he was just so beautiful! Energy, and a sense of fun. Self assured.

You could tell the cast had become close. It was very joyful. But today, I feel as if I've lost something...and I have, of course. As we all have. He seems to just hover at the back of my mind.

I just read the they had to stop shooting because of the money... Is that true????? :-/

sheba said...

Gosh, I hope it isn't so.

Good morning all. Nice day already. WDW, hope you feel better, you should do with all the 'nurses', 'doctors' and 'physiotherapists' around to look after you here :DDD And I shall join them. Black pepper always seems to sooth and clear my throat - I don't know why - it just does.

Those pictures of Jake and Jessica do look like they're arguing but I realise they're not. Jake's outstretched hand is actually holding onto the rails. To me it looks like Jake is on the phone and Jessica is probably trying to gently interrup to whisper something like 'call me if you need to' something like that. Amazing how a picture can tell a thousand stories.

Well, in honour of our favourite congressman, I am wearing my white shirt and blue and yellow school tie again today. I love it now more than ever. Have a good day y'all. 'Carpe Diem'

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone - thanks! I feel like I've been visited by a lot of friends bearing grapes and fruit :D I'm feeling a little bit better this morning thanks to being waited on.

Hi Nadine :D we're very lucky to have Nicole and Lisa out there on the ground as it were. It sounds like long hours all round.

Hey Michele - totally agree with you and I think most people do, tank heavns :/

Mornig Pia - it would be nice to be followed around by RDJ when sick :D

Hi Bobbyanna - good tips there but can I ever manage without ice cream :( I love Knight's Tale so much and sometimes in INT Heath has the look of Ennis and of William. He hovers in my mind too.

Hi Anon - I saw that 'report'. I don't see reason to give it any more redence than some of the other gossip that's come from the set, and the filming must be nearing completion now anyway. But who knows!

Have a good day everyone - remember to drop by and visit (with or without fruit) to entertain me :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba - posting at the same time :D Black pepper for a sore throat?? I reckon I'll let you keep that one :D Pictures are amazing aren't they, the way that they can be read in a million ways. I don't think they'd be rowing while on the phone - could just have been ordering a takeaway... Love the congressman look :D

sheba said...

LOL! I know the black pepper remedy may not work for everyone :D The other option, if you didn't have Mr WDW to do this for you was to get Jake to rub some Vicks on your throat and chest (instant cure).

Well done WDW by not giving credence (I saw the other one too).

Donnie Darko 2 - so sorry Daveigh, I won't be watching. Richard is the heart of the movie, Jake is the soul.

For the first time in a long time I had a dream and Jake, some other unknown guy, Michelle, Matilda, my mom and my sons were in it. I don't remember how they ended up in my house but I was in my pyjamas, hair uncombed and they were hungry. I was so dumbstruck I didn't talk to Jake, he just sat in my settee watching TV, not talking much. Michelle looked so beautiful and Matilda had the biggest smile while she played with my youngest. Michelle and I were talking about lost loves and how she's trying to recover, I offered her advice and I got out a mat sized snakes and ladders game for Matilda. My mom was chatting to Jake and this unknown man and set the table for dinner. They ate up everything on the plate and I washed up. When I came out to get the rest of the dishes they were gone. They didn't even say goodbye! What the heck kind of dream was THAT!!

This is the most vivid dream I've ever had about Jake and he didn't even talk to me :0(

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba - yep, it seems to me that there may be some 'insiders' on this project out to cause trouble and stir it up - so no, I'm not giving any of it credence at this stage (and sorry you saw that).

Please send Jake over for the chest rub :DD That'd work wonders and would be completely medicinal...

Interesting dream. That reminds me brefore I forget that I had a Jake dream last night too (I had loads of odd dreams as I have a high temperature) but I was at the Nailed set and was outside a room which had a hatch, Jake as in the room. I crept round to take some pictures and he was being filmed using an old fashioned sewing machine - his hair was really belong but he said hi when he saw me taking the picture. I don't know what he was sewing :D I'm sorry that you got lumbered with all the washing up in your dream - not good at all :(

sheba said...

LOL. How random are those dreams? Funny too. I thought you meant Jake was being filmed not with a camera but with a sewing machine hahaha. I think I went one step further.

I've only had about other two dreams about Jake but this one hurt as I never got to speak to him. He ate my food and bolted! I woke up so annoyed with him LMAO.

Hi everyone!

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well, WDW. I hope Mr. WDW is still pampering you a bit!!

I think it is very considerate of Lisa to ask if we are interested in her boring stories from the set! Just joking! OF COURSE WE ARE INTERESTED!!! I hope Jake will be in the scene with your daughter - looking forward to another fine report of yours!!!

I really hope that this rumour of them having to stop shooting is not true!!!

Oh, and about the Donnie Darko II thing... What a pity if this is going to happen!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba - oops, I did make it sounds like that! Last time I dreamt about Jake he invitd me to a private viewing of Brothers - it looked really good ;D

Hey Uli - I know, as if we wouldn't want to hear more! Have a good day!

Morning Nicole :D Yeah, we were just talking about that, but I'll believe it when I believe it - not discrediting the source but there have been some strange comments coming from 'insiders' on the set. But if it is true, hopefully it'll be on the track again soon.

Have a good day :)

I asked Mr WDW to get me some pineapple chunks and he came back with an entire fruit the size of St Paul's dome...

Anonymous said...

Morning all,

(((WDW))), hope you feel better. Glad Mr. WDW is taking good care of you!

DD 2....um huge NONONONO!! I really hope that one gets completely stalled or not done at all.

Not liking the Nailed news. :/ I am taking a wait and see. Hoping they can work things out. But DeadlineHollywood/Nikkie Finke is a very reliable source. Let's hope for the best and keep all things crossed. I really want to see this movie! Especially with such great reports from Lisa and Nicole.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Get Real - good to see you :D

I agree about biding time over the rumour - the site may well be a reliable source, it's more the motivations of her source in turn that concern me at the moment. But we shall see! And as I say, here's hoping if it is true it's just a little cough and things will be back on track. This is one project that has to finish :D

If anyone has good tips for reducing a temperature, I'm all ears! Back to bed for me :(

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oops, meant to say, Get Real that DD2 would be a sin against nature - would rank right up there with the old BBM Musical rumour :(
