'Because you never know!'

Speaking as someone who has a passion for Jake Gyllenhaal, cars (predictably big, fast and fancy cars - ideally in blue, but that's not essential) and car television programmes (so long as it's called Top Gear), I have always been more interested in the contents of the boot/trunk of Jake's car than I should be. Particularly, because Jake's car is ten times the size of mine and it doesn't look like it contains a year's supply of free London newspapers.

When Jake was interviewed for GQ back in February 2007, the lucky interviewer got a peek. As Jake said: 'I have to show you what's in the back! Any sport you want to play we can do!' He wasn't exaggerating - the trunk contained 'a football, a catcher's mitt, some basketball shoes, a basketball (self-pumping), tennis rackets and balls, bottles of water, some other kind of shoes, a headband, an Elvis Costello CD, something called "rolling space balls", a Frisbee for the dogs, and an umbrella. Jake points out this last item and, not unlike the former Eagle Scout he plays in Zodiac, proudly stresses, 'Because you never know!' And, really, that was just the top layer.'

Much of this section of the interview takes place in the parking lot behind the Shakespeare Globe, next to Hugo's Restaurant in West Hollywood, which Jake tried to break into. The dead Shakespeare garden next to it was recently removed (a blessing for everyone, I think) but the Globe remains. I thought it might be appropriate to post a picture I took of it just a week or two after GQ was published.

Jake's house must be full of wheeless bicycles - bicyclde wheels are a regular find within Jake's trunk. They are also an inconvenience because you can't put heavy shopping on top of them

Now and again, you can get a whole bicycle attched to the back of Jake's or his friends' cars, or inside it. You can even on occasion fit an entire fellow actor into the back of a Hollywood car.

While Atticus is a familiar sight in the back seat of Jake's car, the trunk can provide a comfortable spot for a coffee or a picnic, in which case you may be lucky enough to find Jake Gyllenhaal in the trunk of a car.

And because I don't want the other end of the car to feel left out...

Gyllengaard in Venice, CA

This week, Gyllengaard were out enjoying the summer sun in Venice, LA, as you can see from these wonderful pictures of Peter, Maggie and Ramona, who is keeping a very firm grip on some of the finest ears in the business.

This post is dedicated to Ruby! So what are "rolling space balls"...?

Pictures from IHJ, Celebrity Baby Blog and WDW.

Anonymous 20.20. Does being a bitch come easily to you or do you have to get up early to practice?!

What I actually signed on to say was that as I scrolled down and just caught the picture of Peter with Ramona on his shoulders, just for a second I thought it was an old photo of Heath. There's something poignantly Heathy about him in the second photo too. Did that spook anyone else or was it just me?

Oh,and hi (((WDW))) xxxx

:D

thank you WDW! *-)

Nothing so interesting in the boot (trunk!) of my car: some windscreen wash, an umbrella and a pocket kite. I need a Jake to sprawl in it.

Hi Nadine :) Ramona looks happy up on Peter's shoulders, like Matilda always did on Heath's.

Hi (((Ruby Rubes)))! xxx

If I put the back seat down there's plenty of room for Jake to recline in the back of my car. Think I'll start carrying a set of hand cuffs and a tickling stick - because you never know ;-)

Nadine, Ramona on Peter's shoulders instantly reminded me of Heath and Matilda too. :(

Thanks for the update WDW! :)

Hi Nads and Rubes - I didn't even recognise Peter in those pics - couldn't see Heath resemblance, though.

OMY WDW, you DO deliver - no matter what the weather! Clever post!

Now can you please do a piece on Jake's dresser drawers, esp. the undies drawer?

Nadine, o yes! Peter looks very Heathish, esp. in second picture. But that child has her own personality, sure enuf! No gyllengiggle, there, looks like a guffaw! what a sublime picture!

A horrible day turned out to be okay. Ive got some delish crisps made out of baked snap peas and wasabi flavored edamame beans to go with my chardoney.

Hello my friends! Great to see you - I'm enjoying being looked after here with a big meal and a bottle of wine :D

Hi Nadine! The thing that reminds me of Heath in that picture is Peter being in the shorts with socks and shoes. It seems Heathish to me. But I love this picture! And kisses back! xx

Hey Ruby Rubes *) Hmmm, what have I in the boot of my car? Empty bottles for recycling, my outfit from my sister's wedding and an umbrella! Wehave this in common with Jake. The only problem is it means the inside of my car stays dry but I don't.

Nadine, Jake would be hardpressed to fit in the boot of my car but I'm sure he'd try as he's polite and bendy.

Good to see you, Sandy :) Nice to be thinking of Heath and Matilday with this gorgeous pic of Peter and Ramona :)

Hey Nouskie *)

Hi Pia :D So glad you liked the post! Yep, a trip round Jake's wardrobe is in order. Ramona's personality shines out - she looks like such a laugh :)

Enjoy your dinner - I'm ready for a big bowl of raspberries while I watch the end of Raising Arizona :)

Good to see you Zodiac :D I'm so glad you liked the pics :)

Me too Nadine... I really thought that was Heath and Matilda and my heart stopped for a beat.

Very sweet and gorgeous pics, WDW! Thank you.

Jake and his car(s) and bottles of water... I constantly have 12 bottles of sparkling and 12 bottles of still ones in my house too. Not as posh as his Italian brand, I just keep Buxton and Highland Springs! :P

Not a car lover myself, but I'll sit whatever car Jake is driving :)

Hi Winterbird! My car is full of bottles of water too as everytime I go to the cinema I buy a bottle and then chuck it in the back. I won't go thirsty... I can completely understand Jake's enjoyment in his cars - if I had the money I'd have a fleet. But I really enjoyed watching Jake drive the little orange VW in Zodiac! Such a contrast :D I love seeing pics of Jake drive too :)

What a brilliantly random post! Love it:D I don't have any sensible comment to make though(yeah, what's new?) as the last pic of Jake sprawled out in the boot of his car has made me come over all unneccesary. And of course whenever I think of Jake and cars I think of that scene in BBM - "fast or slow, I just like the direction you're going" *swoon*

Those Gyllengaard pics are lovely:) Ramona looks adorable(and her dad's not bad either;)) And yes, Nadine, I thought of Heath (sob) when I saw them too :(

And sorry to be off-topic but I have to say a big "YAAAAAAAAY!!!!" to my adopted country, Spain, making it to the final of Euro 2008, thanks in no small part to my Arsenal boy, Cesc Fabregas :D Much rejoicing at TL towers tonight :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi TL!! Jake sprawled out in the boot of a car is a lovely image - and I like the BBM connotations :D Congrats to you and Spain! I've not been watching it as no England but making up for it with the tennis :)

twistedlogic said...

Well, in fairness, Jake sprawled out anywhere is always a welcome sight;D
I've been enjoying Euro 2008 a lot more than I probably would have done if England had been there - no stress,no bemoaning the lack of talent/passion/luck, no sickening disappointment at going out on penalties in the quarter finals...;)

great post WDW!! I wouldn't mind sitting in the back of the car with Jake..by the way I love the pictures with him laying down in the trunk!! great pictures!!

Hello, Wet Dark!

I liked the post and photos!
Jake is so sexy in them!

I can not stop thinking of Batman!
I am increasingly happy to read the praise to Heath. And sad to learn that the Heath is not here to talk and see all this!

Maggie and Peter are on the reserved side, so it's a surprise to see Ramona going for the gusto with everything she's got. :-) Or maybe children of that age are just very intense?

As for the contents of my car's trunk, please don't ask, because you don't want to know! The only saving grace is that I've had the car less than a year, so the chance of finding trilobites or dinosaurs in there is not high. ;-)

Good morning everyone! Friday at last and I have a long weekend with nothing to do but Jake and watch tennis - perfect :D

Morning TL! - I am not missing the penalty shootouts that's for sure. They've taken years off me.

Hi Nicole! Glad you liked the pics - never enough sprawled out Jake. I wonder if he watches TV like that...

Ola Monica - the buzz about Batman is getting very infectious and I love to see so much of it is focusing on Heath :)

Morning Paul! Little Ramona looks full of character but I've always thought that Peter is quite a character as well, so she doesn't surprise me. Sounds like you need to work on filling that car up with junk :D

Have a great day everyone!

Great post WDW! :D

Jake in a car is one of my fetishes, I don't know why...maybe because I'd like to have him in a confined separated space to have him under my influence completely...;)

And yes, Nadine : Peter made me think of Heath in that photo as lately any other father with his son/daughter on his shoulder does...
:(

Have a great day and a great weekend WDW and everyone! :)

I saw a trailer for "The Dark Knight" this past weekend, and it was very impressive. Although I've always liked Superman, Batman hasn't interested me all that much.

Happy Friday folks! :)

Jake sprawled out in the back of a car.... totally teh sex!!!

The pictures of Peter, Maggie and Ramona are so adorable! She seems such a happy little girl with tons of personality. That's how she was when I saw them a few weeks ago. And yeah the pic of her on Peter's shoulders does remind me of Heath and Matilda. :(

I am glad, but not surprised, that The Dark Knight is getting such buzz and amazing reviews. I am also glad to see Heath is getting the praise he deserves. Ticket sales are selling out already.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Xenia! That may be a very good explanation of why I love Jake in a car :D

Hey Paul - I want to go to the pictures this weekend, just to see a trailer. I wish the trailers were listed in the paper, not just the movies...

Hi Get Real! Happy Friday to you too. I love to see that grin on Ramona's face :D

I hope everyone is having a really good Friday :)

"This post is dedicated to Ruby! So what are "rolling space balls"...?" [WDW]

Um, I don't know, but Mel Brooks probably does. ;-)

You have most likely seen it in an old Christopher Lee motion picture. The conjurer or alchemist remains around drawn on the floor with odd old watching composing and cries out interesting custom like words. Perhaps the mystical performer even has a wand in his grasp, whichever way you get the photo. Most like Solomon
