Carry on waiting: PoP and Torso - and buttons and toggles

One of the qualifications for being a card-carrying Gyllenhaalic, is that you get used to things being postponed and, last night, the hoped-for promotion of Prince of Persia on Entertainment Tonight, became yet another example. So, we must wait a little longer for the interviews with Jake and his fellow PoPpies, and again must hope that when it does televise, we get more than a two-minute soundbite.

But the signs are that much more publicity is to come. Film sites across the net are dropping hints from the recent press day (mentioned here the other day), hosted by Jerry Bruckheimer on the Pinewood set of Prince of Persia. It sounds as if the sites have been warned to not yet mention what they experienced of this major project and instead they have been focusing on Bruckheimer's other major movies on the horizon, most of which appear to feature Johnny Depp. We are promised reports of the PoP visit during the coming months.

Jake has been associated with the David Fincher project Torso since before the original murders took place. Remember Jake's fake Torso tattoo on his inner arm back in the summer of 2006? It was wondered at the time whether this was part of Jake's campaign to win the role from Fincher, or maybe it was the result of a Zodiac-Torso shindig (permanent marker pens are never a good idea at a party...). However, earlier this year, Matt Damon's name began to be associated with the role of Elliot Ness. But there are two big roles in this project - murderer and detective.

Recent interviews with producer Bill Mechanic have suggested that Torso will be David Fincher's next role. More interestingly, Mechanic has been at pains to deny or confirm nothing when it comes to the casting: he 'also says the people that are rumored to be attached probably are…'. And here: 'Could the square-jawed Damon be Ness then? Could Gyllenhaal be reprising his “Zodiac” fascination with the hunt for a serial killer as the story’s narrator? “Some of those rumors are true,” Mechanic said, “and some of those rumors are not true. But there are major people waiting to come aboard.”' This man should be a politican.

Whatever happens, and I think it unlikely Jake will climb aboard this one, I will always welcome the idea of Jake working again with David Fincher. It's just difficult to know if Jake feels the same way. Jake working with Matt Damon, clearly someone Jake respects greatly, is another reason to tick the boxes on this one. One thing's for sure - if Jake does get involved and Torso is made, it will be postponed.

Setting woolly trends

Now that the winter weather is fair closing in - at least in these parts - you too can be cool in classic knitwear ala Jake. With thanks to IHJ for the new old pictures of Jake in one of his favourite cardies, this post is illustrated by some of the more notable woollies that have kept Jake cosy over recent years.

And finally

Here is a great sighting of Maggie, Peter, Ramona and possibly Naomi yesterday at the Brooklyn's Children Museum.

Includes pictures from IHJ and Just Jared.

Hi Monica! I definitely wouldn't complain if Jake did Torso along with Fincher and Damon :D I think we could see quite a range of films from Jake over the years, quite apart from whether he does Torso or not. Have a good night :D

I'm back! *waves*

Thank you, WDW, for two wonderful posts. Too many thoughts swirling around in my head like in a food mixer:) I'm really tired. One day I'm going to flag myself to death at work.

Firstly, I love him in cardigans, jumpers, sweaters, sweatshirts. I don't know why. He just looks so...cosy in them, like you can feel this solid body and you know that a really good smell would engulf you if he wrapped his sweater around you, his warmth pulsing underneath the layers of clothing(that happens to me in my fantasy land which I don't visit often nowadays;). His broad shoulders look terrific in all these things. I love the photo of him looking down, hands in his pockets, the collar up. I've never been jealous of the button but I guess there is the first time for everything.

I've finally received my Director's cut of Zodiac and I must say the book throwing scene is hilarious. I haven't listened to the commentary yet but I'm definitely going to. So Torso sounds good.

You're so right about everything Jake being constantly postponed. It's like Ellen said to him :"Keep teasing people!" And he does.

Isn't it too early for the publicity for the movie which is due in 1,5 years? I don't know. God, I SO should start playing the Warrior Within but I don't have time for it at all.

Hey! Waves to Zodiac! I've missed you :D I'm have a real slog at work too - it's just not right :(

OMG - that is an incredible description of the wonderful sexy appeal of Jake in his cardigans, jumpers and sweaters. On anyone else, I don't think I'd find them sexy at all, but on that physique of Jake... and he wears them with such attitude - fabulous! I think you raised my temperature a little... :P

So glad to hear you got the DC of Zodiac at last. A great DVD - you're in for a treat with the commentary. I'm a big fan of Fincher - he gets amazing results - and so I won't mind at all if Jake does sign on.

1.5 years of publicity - there seemed like that for TDK so who knows. Just so long as it means we get to see Jake regularly. I need something to counteract the delays in Brothers and in Nailed, and in the final release of PoP... You're right - what a tease :/

Have a good night!

I agree. Jake is one of the most versatile actors I have ever seen.
One of the things we most admire him.

Thanks for the photos of the post. Had not yet seen!

Excuse the errors above

Waves to Monica :D One of the reasons why I fell for Jake in the first place was he surprises and dazzles me.

Thanks so much for commenting, Monica - I really appreciate it *)

Murderer or Elliott Ness... the possibility of working with Fincher is alway exciting! I am up for it!!

To be honest, I think Jake would make a much better "suited" Elliott Ness... even though a dark murderous Jake is tempting too.

Jake in cozy woolie cardigan... the sight alone keeps me warm... :P

Hi there Winterbird :D It's nice of Jake to keep us warm :) I quite like the idea of the dark, murderous Jake. It is interesting how the producers are still hedging their bets about the cast even though they're trying to get it moving. I was so intrigued why Jake should write Torso down his arm. Cold out there - we need Jake in his cardi...

I demand an antagonist Jake!!! :)) Ness can't help reminding me of Robert Graysmith, and I don't think Jake is likely to repeat himself if he stars in a David Fincher film (again). And a murderer Jake is really something different from his previous roles, right?

Anyway, I wonder if Torso will be portrayed like Zodiac :/

Morning Nezuko :D That sounds like a good idea to me. As you say, I don't think Jake would play another role where he's searching for the killer for Fincher, but a murderer, hmmm...

Thinking out loud, I wonder if the reassociation of Torso with Jake (albeit a tenuous one) is something to do with it being a different role Time will tell, eventually.

Have a great Saturday everyone - and I hope the rain stops :)

I love the idea of Jake in Torso as well - in either role, and starring with Matt Damon as well. It does share a hunting-down-a-killer similarity with Zodiac, but that's where the similarity ends I think; there are quite a few differences as well, and the era would be great. I wonder if Jake would like to play the bad guy.

I love how those cardigans fit him too. ;)

Hi there Anon :D I bet Jake would love to play a baddie (just think what Heath did with the Joker). Oh he does look amazing in these jumpers, and I wouldn't say that about many men in a cardigan! :D

Hope everyone's having a good Saturday - I've had a fun afternoon taking a trip down memory lane by going through all my old Jake scrapbooks :)
