'It's hard not be happy when Jake Gyllenhaal swings by to say hi'

Gorgeous Gemma Arterton was back in Morocco over the weekend and, although she spent much of the time soaking up the sun, it's not too improbable to suppose that this return to Morocco was Prince of Persia related. In which case, does this mean that Jake Gyllenhaal too is having some relief from the icey rain, heavy frosts and hill sprints of England?

I believe that some readers in the United States may have had their minds taken off the all-important issue of Jake by some vote that is taking place tomorrow. When Jake himself was able to join in with campaigning back in 2004, he reflected that it was one of the few times when people would listen to celebrities: 'What's interesting about celebrities is that somewhere within some of them, at least, there's a non-partisian part of the work that they do... I hope that they hopefully have fans from everywhere, and if they take a stance on something, maybe people will hear what they have to say.'

Jake's impact on the voting public was unanimous: '"(I attended) partially because I am a supporter of Kerry," [a girl said], "(and), second of all, I've been in love with Jake Gyllenhaal since 'Donnie Darko' came out."' And another potential young voter at a different campus: 'It's hard not to be happy when Jake Gyllenhaal swings by to say hi'.

As a Brit with no votabilities whatsoever in a US election, I will resort to subliminal messaging....

Oh believe me, WDW, we in the States are champing at the bit to vote tomorrow - at least I am. Jake is lovely inspiration tho. ;)

Hi there, Anon :D This election's been going on so long I feel left out that I can't vote! Glad to hear you're all ready to go. Jake is the most perfect inspiration for so many things :)

I'd vote for Jake!
By the way, I'd be a good First Lady. Ha!

Hey Monica! Ooh yes, how many first ladies can Jake have? I wanna be one...

Now serious.
I have tons of American friends and I'm almost "forcing" them to vote, because this last administration (I don't even pronounce that man's name), made the world a worse place.
It's time to recover. It's time to see and understand at once that an American President (unfortunately) is the president of the Planet. He has the power of changing lives all over the Globe. He and his partners scare me to death! I'm sure If oxygen was worth money, they would invade Brazil and occupy the Amazon Rain Forest. If bananas were worthy, they would invade Martinica! And so it goes. Like they've done to Iraq's oil. War on terror? I doubt!

Some Americans have no idea of how their decision can change MY life. That's why I asked my friends do go out and vote, if not for themselves, for me!

That's it. If the third world's population is not a good reason, please go out and vote BECAUSE JAKE ASKED YOU TO!

:)

Yes I am ready to VOTE tomorrow!! I can't wait to do my civic duty for the U.S. and the world.

This election has been hard on a lot of levels. I am more than anxious about tomorrow. I can only hope and pray that we will have real change with a president who is thoughtful, graceful, inspiring and intelligent enough to be inclusive of the world, like Monica said, and who is about change and not hate and divisiveness.

So all I can say is YES WE CAN!!!

And those are adorable pictures of Jake getting out the vote! :p

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks for that, Monica. It's difficult feeling like we have no voice when these decisions affect the rest of us, thousands of miles away. But I have big hope :D

Good for you, Get Real! And I'm glad the pics of Voting Jake help.

Hope everyone's having a good evening :)

To everyone in the US: have a good day tomorrow and remember when you choose your President, you also choose a person who will take decisions which have an impact on the rest of the world,on us, people who live far away from America.

Gemma is a gorgeous girl. Love her swimming suit.

I'd vote for Jake, too. I'd be an illegible voter for an illegible candidate. "Voting is sexy and everyone should do it with me!", he said something like that. Oh,the metaphor of ticking all right boxes in a small voting booth:) You're endless tease, you.

Actuallym I forgot to say hi to WDW:)

Hi!

Hi Zodiac! Waves! I'm having problems with my computer. I've hit a control button and it keeps wanting to translate everything into Chinese :(

Gemma is so gorgeous! I love that bikini. I wish I had that body and I wish I had her prince...

Jake is a sexy voter - he makes voting sexy.

I do hope this comment comes out in English and not in pseudo-WDW-Chinese.

Relax WDW, it's still in English!
But if you post in chinese, I'm posting in portuguese. hahaha!

I think tomorrow's going to be a good day :)

I would love to know if Jake's looking at sand or ice tonight... I'm having a bit of escapism this evening, with Brendan Fraser it looks 'normal' again andand Journey to the Centre of the Earth (I love Jules Vernes' books).

Hey my American friends. As Anon 22.17 so eloquently puts it ;-),the World is relying on you to vote for the right man tomorrow!

Jake's right, your vote is precious. Please exercise your right to vote and I entreat you,for the sake of peace in the world, vote Obama.

Good morning everyone! Big day in the US - happy voting to you all and good luck Obama :D

Hi Anon :D She most certainly is. And good job for voting.

Couldn't agree with you more, Hopeful :D Fingers crossed.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi WDW and everyone :)

I do agree with you guys about how important your vote in the US is for the entire world, I so wish I could vote too! ;) Actually it's weird how I seem to be so much more interested in US elections than those in my own country, probably because I'm kind of disgusted by our government and politicians...Jake being part of voting campaigns would definitely stimulate my interest though ;)

So guys have a great day there and everywhere and Barack the vote ;) I so hope he wins and can really make the difference for you in the States and for us all :)

Gorgeous pic of Gemma WDW, what a wonderful body she has. And in an appropriate attire this time, much better than the purple dress anyway ;).

I'm utterly sure you already know about This, right? We got to see the Prince soon, isn't it fantastic? :)

Have a good day and let it be an Obama day :).

P.S. Hi Sonia. :*

Thanks SO much for this post, WDW!!!!

I've voted, but I'll be on pins and needles today and well into the night! The polls close at different times in different states, but we should have some early indications on which way it's headed.

For Example, polls close in Virginia at 7 PM. Virginia is closely contested, but Obama is expected to win the state. Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania will close at 8 PM, I believe. Pennsylvania is going towards Obama, while Indiana is a dead heat, they say, as is Ohio. I will be watching those three as well as Florida. I do not expect Obama to get Ohio or Indiana, but if that is so, he must win in Pennsylvania, and a win in both Florida and Pennsylvania will lock it up for him.

In the western U.S., Obama is polling well in Colorado and New Mexico. They're saying he has Nevada, too, but I'm not so sure.

In any event, we'll know, based on how well things go in the eastern U.S., how things stand, hopefully before midnight, our time. (Of course, this assumes there will be no mischief or "breakdowns" at polling places.)

I think there are a lot of people all over the world today, who'd love to be able to vote in our election, and I don't blame them.

My thoughts and prayers are with Senator Obama and his family for so many reasons, but knowing that he lost his grandmother, as he described her, the person "Who poured everything she had into me..."

Wish us luck! Hopefully, this time we will get it right!!!!

Oh wooow.. I didn't know about the PoP tv special! That's great! Finally some Jake in action! :D
Looking forward to seeing it! Thank you in advance for taping it for us! ;):D

Hey Good Girl! I'm sorry I missed your comment earlier :) Politics here are so dull in comparison to the US but I don't like the way this election has gone on for months. I think I prefer British party politics to be honest but Obama seems like an extraordinary individual.

And yes looking forward to the PoP feature! - I did a bit about it a few days ago but we weren't certain on which day it would take place. Have a good day :D

Hi there Bobbyanna! It's going to be a long, long day for sure. I remember when Clinton got in the first time, I was up all night but because of the time gap we'll have to wait til tomorrow. Thanks for all the info!

To all of our friends from all over the world from the US:

It makes me so happy that all of you are watching our election with such interest - I have the feeling that noone will be let down to day. I'm a little nervous, very happy and am going out to cast my vote for Obama in a few minutes. I'm almost teary-eyed, because it will be such an historic event. :)

Anon, we all support your tears!
go ahead and show that young Americans are not silly as the rest of the world likes to say they are!

We all want change, and something tells me CHANGE is what we're gonna get!

Love,

Monica (the other) from Brazil

P.S. Good morning everyone

Anonymous said...

Monica (the other) if I may say because I may, Im not sure I love to hear about people that think young Americans are "silly" -

generalizations are not helpful, nor anti-American comments at this historic time in our history.

please be respectful.

thank you

Anonymous said...

Well, in fairness to Monica, and as an American, I took her comment to mean that possibly young Americans are considered silly to the rest of the world, and by silly I thought she meant taking their circumstances for granted, taking the right to vote for granted, not taking things seriously and being too involved with superficial things, haven been given everything and not knowing poverty or what it means to work for something. Other young people across the globe are not as lucky as we in the US. I share her wish that all young people get out and vote today, historically they are the ones who do not. I don't think she meant any harm. I think changes starts with recognizing areas where we need improvement and trying to fix it. That's not anti-American in my book :)

Anonymous said...

I don't think Monica meant ill, either, Anon 16:47.

But to be respectful, I believe we must not make generalizations about other cultures.

Especially at this time when the emotions are so deep and important.

Anonymous said...

and the outcome so crucial, as are all of our actions in this new world of inter-relationship.

Anonymous said...

Yes, very much so! I'm so excited about today. :)

Anonymous said...

Pia, that is exactly what I'm asking. I'm asking American youth to show that the rest of the world is wrong! And I'm proud, because I've always defended you guys from "generalizators" (is this a word?)

I also hate generalization, and I swear to god I'm not typing in a bikini, dancing samba and eating bananas, or having sex with tourists to support my family; as WDW is not in a silk robe smoking pipe.

Generalization is ignorance.

Sorry if I sounded mean. It was not my intention at all.

:)

Anonymous said...

Yes, well you know how it is, Monica - when a neighbor criticizes your own kids -

"the rest of the world is wrong. . "

excuzez moi, "rest of the world",
just let it rest, eh?

Anonymous said...

Well, we Americans do have an "image problem" in other countries' views, and not totally undeserved. We're not all like that tho, generalizations don't help matters, but neither does pretending problems don't exist, which is another form of ignorance, and which is not bliss. I didn't mean to "generalize" either; I was just trying to consider another's point of view. I don't view people from other countries in cultural stereotypes, and neither should they view us as stereotypes. There are many, many involved, knowledgeable and politically active young Americans. I think Mr. Obama is going to do great things. :)

Anonymous said...

Im getting ready to go out to vote, so I didnt take time address less hastily the "rest of world" issue, Monica.

To say you're defending young Americans against "the rest of the world" who believes y.a.'s are silly and privileged isnt a compliment - it's another generalization.

See y'all later!

Hello everyone! Sorry I've been missing your discussion due to having to endure a rubbish day.

Nothing like politics to bring out differing opinions - I may do a post on religion next :DD I'm staying out of it, but don't pick on one another and also remember that English is not the first language of everyone here.

If I could vote, I would. But I can't, so I'll have a glass of Californian red and hope maybe someone will put a cross next to Obama's name for me :D

Anonymous said...

Sounds like a good idea, WDW. Cheers! :*

Anonymous said...

Jeez...I'm shutting my mouth for good. Seems like I just can't say anything right.

Thanks for having me here anyway.

Oh Monica! Don't go and don't be silent - (I like the Dramatic by the way :D). Although not everyone gets along all the time, most of the time we do and this is just one of those odd days. So don't be forever silent, eh? eh?

Anonymous said...

Monica, please don't stop posting! Let's think about Jake being on ET Thursday nite instead, talking about PoP! :)

Monica! if you stop posting it will mean I have to stay silent and that would make me really depressed!

Politics/religion - booo - cant we talk about sex?

Anonymous said...

Not to add to any drama here but I just voted and yes Obama of course got my vote! Was wonderful to cast that vote.

And Jake is hot and I am sure he would be glad I got my vote on! ;)

Please, Monica, Pia, and everyone else, don't leave! We have such great discussions even if we don't always agree. All your input is valuable here. We can't Jake without you! :)

oops, my "me too" was for Pia's post at 20:00. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Jake and I are quite happy, thank you, in our silk robes and with our hookahs. I refuse to eat couscous but Jake is tucking in.

Pia - I will STEAL money for that ACLU fundraiser!!

I would hide with Jake for a decade (sorry, week) on the island of Zanzibar and every day we would feast on spices and fruits from the trees and dip into warm waters. In the evenings, I would paint Jake's arms with henna tattoos and then wash them off in the sea...

paulh said...

I wish I could say that Jake swung by to say hi at my polling place this morning, but unfortunately he didn't. Nevertheless, I did vote, and I have my fingers crossed. I'm not so much concerned about the two candidates for President, but one of the Vice-Presidential hopefuls is scaring me almost to death with what the candidate might do to scientific progress if the candidate succeeded upon the death of the candidate's running mate. (I can't give away the candidate's gender...)

I hear people talking about the election as I stand in supermarket checkout lines. It is seen as an almost holy movement that transcends party, and will change history. This one is very different from any other election I have experienced. Something very big is going on.

But, yes, having Jake at the polls might have boosted turnout. I can only hope he was busy boosting turnout elsewhere. ;-)
