Sir Ben on Jake: 'He has a lovely, effortless confidence, which is perfect for the Prince'

Sir Ben Kingsley on Jake Gyllenhaal: 'we have a wonderful fight, Jake and I, a vicious swordfight. The lovely quality that Jake brings to his role is confidence, he has a lovely, effortless confidence, which is perfect for the Prince, really perfect.'

This is a compliment indeed, coming as it does from the likes of Sir Ben, that Jake has found the confidence and assurance necessary to bring the Prince to life. You can also see the video clip here. And did someone mention a swordfight?

Thank you for that clip! How wonderful to not only read about it, but hear/see Ben Kingsley saying it himself...

Effortless confidence - that is one of the things I adore about Jake!

There is this interview at the time of Jarhead where the interviewer also has the copy of the magazine with shots of Jake. She asks him if he can handle all what has been happening that year. I always loved how he came across answering that he felt strong within himself and that he had no fears!! Confident, but not arrogant!

I hope nobody and nothing will ever take that confidence away from him.

I wish I had just a tiny little bit of this effortless confidence of his...

I hope you have a nice Sunday! :)

Hi there Uli! I like that effortless confidence too - inner strength and self-assurance :) I suppose it's something you do need if you put yourself out there on the big screen or the stage. And if Sir Ben says Jake is a perfect Prince then that makes my day :D

There were some great interviews around the time of Jarhead. I think I know the one you mean. I must search around :D

Hoe you're having a good Sunday - it's going really cloudy again now and I have to go out and get some supplies in, but I don't wanna!

Good morning, wet dark!
It's so wonderful to see Sir Ben Kinskley talk about Jake.

I would also like to have that confidence in some moments of my life!
Sometimes I am a little insecure!

Fantastic to hear Sir Ben have such great things to say about Jake. Love hearing it from him. Should be very exciting to see. :D

Hi there Monica :D Me too, maybe Jake should tell us how he does it...

Morning Get Real :D I really want to see this swordfight between Sir Ben and Jake - I wonder what it was like to film. Would have loved to have been a fly on that sandy wall :)

Hope the weather's ok where you are. I've just got back from having to go shopping and it is horrible! Like night.

I've just updated the post with the video itself.

And after conferring with Uli, as you all no doubt know already, the interview Uli was referring to above was the 'itchy face' one :D

You can't get a much better compliment than that, and from Sir Ben - effortless confidence. I am so looking forward to seeing Jake as the Prince, and everyone. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Shy Anon :D I can't wait! They'd better hurry up and get Nailed and Brothers out soon or I may go pop myself while waiting...

Atticus said...

I agree WDW 7 years is a long time to wait for Brothers and Nailed and waiting 14 for PoP is totally wormed. Hope I live that long. my word is mastuf! Maybe I meet a mastiff today. WOOF

Yeah Atti, Im also hoping I'll live long enuff to "cippe" PoP - and Im not even a dog. . . but I feel yr pain.

Yes yr master's "lovely effortless confidence" is one of his gifts and a joy to those who love him.

But I bet he laid the charm on Sir Ben, as well. He who turned Sir Ian into a puddle of butter.

They were great compliments for Jake from Ben Kingsley. Good to hear:)

Really looking forward to seeing Jake in this movie. I agree I wish they would get a move on releasing Brothers and Nailed. It's been way too long since Jake was in a new release.

It's absolutely freezing here today too and really miserable. I'm watching BBM again after yesterday's post.

Have a great evening everyone:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That is bad, Atti :( Or, as Blogger tells me here, Zandsu.

Hey Pia! Loving the image of Jake transforming Sir Ian into a puddle of butter :D I'm sure Sir Ben is not immune either.

Hope you're having a good day!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Carol! Posting at the same time :) BBM sounds a great thing to do on a cold miserable day - like that here, just rotten. But being here cheers me up :D

Jake is charming, that's for sure.

"Jake should tell us how he does it..."- he's very physically attractive. We all treat attractive people better. Some might not agree but it's true. It's unconsious. Jake has charmed Sir Kingsley's socks off. Again. His effortless confidence is a result of years of seeing people going ga-ha over him and knowing there are very few who can resist that beauty. That's why I want to throw whatever comes in hand at the screen, every time he says he looks like a tube of toothpaste or something like that. I know he's short-sighted but not so much as not to see his reflection in the mirror.

Liar, liar, pants on fire!:)*points at Gyllenhaal*

Last week, someone I know, the straightest guy on the planet, saw Jake on GQ cover in my house. After a half a minute of staring, the guy said: "Well, not to sound weird or anything, but he is REALLY good-looking." Embarrassed by his own admission, he started laughing but I know he was saying what he was thinking(he's also one the most straightforward people I know.

P.S. Freezing here today. Lots of snow, too.

Frepa, here. I keep wanting to change my name, or country of origin, or language - I have a feeling that's a good thing. Thanks for this opportunity, WDW!

Hey, Zodiac! I think Jake' toothpaste tube complex is all part of his seductive charm - that he's also insecure! you want to keep assuring him: baby, it'll be alright!

while in the meantime he goes on to garnish a 7 mil contract with Disney.

I mean, Ive met guys like this before.

"Effortless confidence"... mmmm.... this sounds like a incredibly sexy quality.

Ben Kingsley is known to hold high standards for himself and others (that's why some reporters find him arrogant sometimes), coming from him really means a lot.

I wonder what Sir Ben think about his English accent too? :P

Thanks for the clip... it's been a busy Sunday, I hope I'll dream of Jake with his sword tonight... :P

Hi frepa!

"you want to keep assuring him: baby, it'll be alright!"

I agree that he wants to be taken care of. His woman is also his mother:)

Hi Zodiac! That is true - beautiful people must be treated very differently, but I don't think it's just physical beauty, I think charisma, confidence and attitude are part of it too. I can't believe Jake still sees the tube of toothaste but maybe it gives him unending pleasure that now that's not what he sees.

I like the sound of your friend :)

Hope you're ok in the snow. We have freezing rain - I'm looking forward to chipping away at the windscreen in the morning :/

Hey, welcome Frepa! Good to meet you and thanks for commenting :DD Jake is a flirt and so he knows what to say, but he doesn't even have to say it, just a glance through those eyelashes, and a giggle, and we want to give him all the reassurance we've got!

Hi Winterbird :D A very sezy quality! I like to think of Sir Ben advising Jake with his accent. Blimey, that's some dream - wouldn't mind that one, myself!

Hello WDW & everybody, excellent interview snippet from Sir Ben. I think Jake's "effortless confidence", that Uli rightly says should not be confused with arrogance, might also originate from his Eastern philosophy and religion studies, his yoga training etc. I mean, it's physical but it goes beyond that. He appears confident in his own skin and his screen presence exudes an ease with the world around him that's always fascinated me.
Have a nice start of the week tomorrow,
Paola

Hi there Paola :D That's interesting, that Jake's attitude may be a biproduct of those years spent studying eastern philosophies/religions. Have a lovely evening :)

His Serene Highness with his effortless charm and confidence. Go, Sir Ben.

Dang... I was looking forward to the 6 inches of snow we were promised this weekend. Instead... what do we get?? Sunshine... and showers... and rainbows. I wanna wash my car! This Brit weather will not make up its mind. Hope Jake is keeping warm and working hard to wrap PoP as soon as possible.

I'd love for him to stay in the UK but I feel his heart is in LA and I'd be glad to see him back there, safe and off that horse.

I too have had a straight guy looking at my Jake calendar (November pic) at work .. just staring at it and saying "he's a good-looking fella that one.. I don't know what it is about him".

Well, my friend from Canada is coming in for a flying visit to London, so hopefully, who knows who one might bump into doing some christmas shopping this weekend :DD

I think Jake had a "lovely effortless confidence" at ten - flexing his bicep for the iterviewer (City Slickers) and saying "Gyllenhaal. Jake Gyllenhaal" -

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Sheba :D icey rain, isn't it lovely... :( Love to hear of all these guys appreciating Jake!

Have a good time with your friend in London - OMG it's extremely busy there now, wear body armour....

Loved that moment, Pia :D

The 100 greatest movie characters/Empire Magazine

38. Donnie Darko

"I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to." Donnie Darko

Played By: Jake Gyllenhaal
Film: Donnie Darko

Why He's On The List: And you thought you had the weight of the world on your shoulders when you were in high school. An upgrade on the rebellious teen, throughout Richard Kelly's scorching debut Donnie remains just enough of a mystery to stay intriguing, without ever being alienating. Is he mad? Or is something trying to tell him something beyond our comprehension? Most still don't have the answer when the credits roll, but this troubled kid's journey is one we're happy to watch again and again.

Finest Hour: Burning down the house of 'motivator' Jim Cunningham, which serendipitously exposes him as a pederast.

Good morning everyone - why do Mondays come round so fast...?

Hi there Monica! It was great to see Donnie Darko so high in the list. I ordered from Empire the special Top 100 Donnie Darko Empire edition. I got it the other day and it's gorgeous.Have a good day :D

"Lovely, effortless confidence" is a perfect way to describe the quintessence of Jake's charme.:)
Sir Ben is clearly supporting his costar and younger colleague in this long publicity process that will bring us to finally watch this movie and all its wonders.

I think that it's that mixture of knowing and not knowing that makes Jake so irresistible. He surely knows the effect that his looks have on people but he's also intelligent enough to know that beauty won't last forever and doesn't make you invulnerable anyway.

Wish you all a good day. :)
A freezing cold day today in Italy too.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Xenia! That just puts it so well :D I love that mix of knowing and unknowing.... Warmed up here a little. Have a good day!
