The hazards of kissing Jake Gyllenhaal - 'I got so carried away, it kind of slipped out'

Each of us probably has a motto - a mantra - that we have sewn onto our pillowcase so that we can awaken each day, refreshed in our determination to live that day according to that mantra and so lead richer, fulfilled lives. Gemma Arterton has a mantra and hers says 'If you're going to kiss Jake Gyllenhaal, never mind the no-tongue rule, stick it down his throat.' I take pause and reflect that, if you're going to have a mantra, this is a bloody good one. Just ask Emmy Rossum.


To get back to the Princess of Persia's words: '"There's an unspoken no-tongues rule on set. But I got so carried away, it kind of slipped out." But the former Bond girl maintains the pleasure was all Gyllenhaal's: "Everyone said I was lucky to be snogging him, but he's the lucky one!"'


There are several points to note here - 1) I may be no lawyer but 'it kind of slipped out' is possibly not an adequate defence; 2) The 'everyone' was quite right; 3) While one can only sympathise with Jake for having to suffer this reckless tongue activity, one must also advise him that this is the price to pay for iceberg-melting degrees of heat. The story seems to suggest that there is only one love scene in PoP - our sufferance for the family entertainment certificate and the big budget - therefore, it is only right that it's a goodie.


Let's just remind ourselves exactly what Gemma's tongue was up against!


Jake's movie kissing powers have been attested to before - as Catherine Keener (also Jake's Nailed co-star) reflected to Emily Blunt about Lovely & Amazing: 'It was fantastic! He's adorable, fun, enthusiastic. We were laughing all the time. It was three o'clock in the morning the first night we're working and we are kissing in the back of the car, freezing it was just silly. It wasn't like one of those standard uncomfortable love scenes were you feel weird enough. We had no time, no money and no time. He's so gifted and a really nice guy.' Now so much older and experienced, it is no wonder that Gemma was unable to control her tongue (or tounge, as the Mirror curiously describes it) when in the arms of Jake.
