Jake meets Stephen Gaghan - Time to speculate!

Proving true the old adage 'You can never visit Caffe Luxxe too many times in one day', Jake Gyllenhaal made two known stops at the Santa Monica cafe yesterday (24 April). One was for a meeting with fellow Nike appreciator and Oscar winning screenwriter Stephen Gaghan. And when Jake meets an Oscar winning screenwriter that can mean only one thing... Speculation!

Stephen Gaghan is best known, and very awarded, for Syriana and Traffic and he is currently working on the adaptation of novel Dead Spy Running. The result could be a trilogy of films, which 'aims to reinvent the spy genre by telling the origin story of a newly trained spy in a tone that mixes the grittiness of "The Bourne Identity" with the wittiness of John Le Carre's oeuvre. "Spy," to be published in June, begins with the protagonist running the London Marathon, where a fellow racer is strapped with explosives. The scenario leads to a globe-trotting adventure to clear the name of the man's father' (Hollywood Reporter). If any actor looks like he's up for running the London Marathon (which, spookily, is tomorrow), that would be Jake.

As we endure this Jake Movie Hiatus, speculation and rumours hinting at an abundance of future roles eases just a little the impatience and the frustration. Whether they're true or not is an entirely different matter.

The other Luxxe visit

Jake's other visit to Luxxe yesterday was his first of the day and he left not only with one of the cafe's famous delectable pastries but also wearing The Sandals. The saving grace of these sandals and socks is that they hint at Jake bendiness at a preceding yoga session.

Many thanks to IHJ for the new pics - you can find more there.

Hi WDW, happy belated birthday!

I was surprised how disappointed I was not seeing Brothers announced for Cannes, esp. since the announcements seem to have got a lot of publicity this year. Nice bonus to see Imaginarium mentioned, but I'm really missing Jake now. The Coachella Weekend, all told, was a real downer.

Wow! That would be great if Jake could be in one of his movies :)

Youu probably know..but The Good Girl is on tonight! :D Channel four around 11 i think!

I'm excited to watch it as iv'e never seen it! :D

Thanks TD! I do think it's high time we got some publicity about Brothers now. I'm really missing Jake on the big screen too - the way things are going everything will all be out together! I'm glad to see Jake back in LA this weekend too.

Morning Erin :D It would be great. I've always imagined Jake in a Bond-like role - I think he'd enjoy it. Yeay, the Good Girl is 11:05pm, Channel 4 - great to see Jake on the TV again.

Have a good day everyone :D

Good morning, wet dark!
Happy belated birthday!

It's so good to see the last film of Heath in a major film festival. I miss this incredible man.

Jake is so young and hot in the new photos.

The project seems interesting and I'm a fan of Stephen Gaghan, but I don't like the director McG.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Monica :D I'm sure Parnassus will get quite a reaction in Cannes - another place where Heath will be missed.

Jake looks really good here! I don't know much about McG except, of course, that he's the director of the new Terminator.

I hope you're having a good weekend. The sun is out again :)

Here is a morning of rain. Lots of rain!
Have a great day!

I hope it brightens up, Monica :)

I like both Traffic and Syriana, so if Jake has to work with him, that's great news :)

hey, I am so starved of Jake movies, I don't mind him doing anything... (Jake, what have you done to me?)

they keep saying it's going to rain, but it's still rather sunny outside today.

have a good weekend, everyone :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Winterbird! I know just what you mean - oh, the joy when Jake's back out there promoting and interviewing and posing. Yeah, I'd take anything too!

Just a random though, but I would love to see Jake do a TV wildlife documentary or any kind of documentary for that matter.

Sun's come out again... :D

This is very exciting, and Jake looks maybe happy and excited too! Traffic is one of my favorite films ever, especially the original, and we love the Bourne series and Syriana. It is a little frustrating that Jake's films haven't been released yet, but you are right WDW, this eases it a bit knowing that there may be more possible roles for Jake coming up! Have a great day! :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon! Jake does look smiley and it looks like the meeting went well from the expressions - I would love to have been a fly/waitress on that wall. I have to own up to still not having seen the Bourne films (gulp) but Gaghan clearly knows what he's doing!

But yeah, I do agree, speculating about possible future roles is a fun way to help pass the time while we wait for Jake's films - and it's also interesting as it means we get more familiar with other directors/writers etc. I learn a lot from commenters when these kind of meetings pop up. And it lets us find out what other films people like.

I hope you have a great day too :D Mine is lovely and relaxing and lazy - perfect.

Jeez.. can't believe I missed it. A very happy belated 2nd birthday to WDW. I'll have a glass of Stones later.

This blog means such a great deal to me and you have brought such pleasure to our lives with your wit and wisdom (and semi-nekkid Jake). Long may you continue to inform, tantalise and stimulate the senses.

Now off to read the last few posts I've missed xx

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Sheba, thanks so much! What a lovely thing to say *) And it's entirely reciprocated - the pleasure I get from talking to the people here, well, it's amazing. And we all have something/someone rather lovely in common. Good to see you back xx

Hi WDW,
Like Winterbird, I liked both Traffic and Syriana, they were really thought-provoking movies, not the usual Hollywood fare for sure. And I liked George Clooney's performance in Syriana so much that I *almost* (ehm ehm) forgave him for winning the Oscar that year instead of Jake...

It's cool to see Jake smiling and relaxed in these pics...

Thanks, have a nice weekend!
Paola

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Paola! Chuckle, well at least Jake got the Bafta beating the George twins :D It is good to see Jake so relaxed. Have a good weekend!

sheba said...

You're welcome WDW..... And what Ruby said about no Jake movies last year yet a post from you every day is just amazing. You're really contributing to the Jake Love.... for real lady - kudos xx

Oooh a GG first-timer - how exciting - hope you like it Erin for what it is. Holden is my favourite Jake character. How lucky we are that Jake's acting credintials have allowed most of his films to be screened on terrestrial/network TV so we can see them.

Love the pictures and speculation of new exciting Jake projects, however, I felt a little jolt in the tummy at seeing how the photographers were swarming around him. Nuff respect for not running them over Jake - I don't know how celebs do it. It's a double edge sword - I like the photos but not the intrusiveness. But he just photographs so well, especially when he's not really doing anything.

Socks and sandals Jake.... you're doing it deliberately now 'cos we told you about it already. Well, at least it's not the crocs :DD

BTW: Who is McG?

Anonymous said...

I agree with TD about the Coachella weekend, what I really need right now is Jake charming my socks off in interviews. Having nothing but pictures to go on for the last I don't know how many months had me realize just how much Jake's hotness for me is dependant on his personnality and talent. I really hope we get a good dose of that soon. You know, when I first saw BBM, I didn't fall head over heels for Jack, I fell for Ennis. And don't shoot me but I tought Jake was good looking but not much more than that. It was watching interviews with him that got me.

We need a movie now!!!

I hope everyone is having a nice week-end.

Olympia

Thanks Sheba :D The first time I saw GG I just didn't like it even though I love Jake and Jen. I just got too depressed from it. So then there was a long gap and then I saw it again - about a year ago and I found myself liking it. So tonight I should watch it and maybe I'll be totally won over. I have problems with Jake's hair in the GG, as in so many of Jake's films... :/

Don't mention the crocs. I'm hoping those are safely in the bin.

I don't know much at all about McG except that he's directed the new Terminator movie. Sounds like an action type of guy!

Hi Olympia! No need to hide for being an Ennis fan - I think we all love him here *) I don't know why - and I don't think it was all due to Jake - but Jack had my heart from the first instant. Yet others fell for Ennis. That has always intrigued me.

Like you, I would never have fallen for Jake for his looks alone - it's the glint in his eye, the curl in his mouth and his wit and warmth and earnestness in interviews. And that flirty thing he has going. And that doesn't do justice to what it is I love about Jake, but it's more than looks. I want more people to see all these sides to Jake and that means we need a film out! II'm confident though that soon we'll have a glut! I hope your weekend is being good :D

Anonymous said...

It's almost like we could see Jack through Ennis' eyes or something - I fell for Ennis first, but Jake's acting amazed me, because I hadn't seen him in anything ever before. But I fell for Jack too, after that. :)

I love GG, and MM, etc. - Jake's movies have longevity, the more you see them, the more you enjoy them, especially BBM for me. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Nouskie! It's a pleasure *) Ooh that means a belated happy birthday to Austin. It is indeed, a couple of hours - I love seeing Jake on TV - I've got used to TDAT being on terrestrial TV here, but not the others. I'm not sure Jarhead has been on yet (terresti8al TV that is). Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

McG: We Are Marshall, Charlie's Angels, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Terminator Salvation...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Monica. I didn't realise he'd done the Charlie's Amgels movies with Drew.

I'm watching The Perfect Storm now before Good Girl :)

GG is one of my favorite movies of Jake.
Yesterday I watched October Sky !

Night Monica! Just getting off after watching GG - I'm glad to find I like it more each time. But October Sky I've loved from the start. Such a good film :)

I saw "The Soloist" tonight. It had three very major Jake links: Robert Downey Jr. ("Zodiac"), Jamie Fox ("Jarhead"), and Catherine Keener ("Lovely and amazing"). Keener plays Dopwney's ex-wife, and they have some great chemistry together. Fox plays a mentally ill street musician in Los Angeles. He is discovered by Downey, who plays a columnist for the "Los Angeles Times". Downey is fascinated that Fox attended Juilliard, but seems to prefer living on the street and playing a violin with a string missing. He also suffers from paranoia and hears voices.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! What a beautiful day :)

Hi Paul - The Soloist sounds excellent and what a cast. But disappointingly it's not out in the UK until September so it's one of those films that I'll probably see on a DVD from Playusa first.

I'm wearing myself out watching a very sunny London Marathon. My stepsister is one of the elite runners so good luck to her :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Just realised I missed 16:30's comment - sorry about that :) One of the reasons why I think Jake's films do have this longevity, is that there seems to be a film to fit each mood and I get something new from them each time. And I can never tire of looking at Jake and listening to his voice :D

sheba said...

Thank you Monica. I loved We Are Marshall and the first Charlie's Angels. Jake should do well under his direction if the project takes off. No doubt he would have had a chat to Matt about McG.

You hit a very good point WDW. I love listening to Jake's voice *isn't that odd*. The way he intonates and pronounces words, the softness and harshness of the tone and how quickly they can move from one to the other. He's interesting to look at and listen to.

I watched The Good Girl last night and still love it. Caustic, sarcastic humour mixed with sweetness, sadness and tragedy. Mike White/Miguel Arteta were genius. Jake was so unafraid and delivered a great performance. Holden I felt was a little insane and yet profoundly true to his convictions and his love. Zoey Daeschenelle stole the movie with her dialogue - she was excellent - best movie she's ever been in. Some classic lines that will live forever such as:

"They called you Tom, I thought your name was Holden" "That's my slave name.... Holden is what I call myself..."

and

"If I were a woman I'd be a slut..... a lesbian slut...."

and

"There's a lesson for all of us....Don't steal and don't be disturbed."

and

"Well, I'm not gonna beg ya"
the way he delivers that line is delicious :DD

Jen was excellent too. Jake recently spoke about Jen when he said how much time she gives to her real friends. He says she always has time for him and never forgets his birthdays, traditional celebrations and important events. There's real love between them.

I also tried to watch I'm Not There last night. I have to give it another go because tiredness set in.

I'm a fan Jake .... you had me at hello (or "Jack Twist").

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Sheba :D I agree absolutely about Jake's voice, I find his voiceover on Jarhead just incredible to listen to.

Thanks for sharing your feelings on Good Girl. I don't have a connection with this film, which does disappoint me considering how much I love Jake and Jen. But I get closer to connecting with it each time I see it, like last night.

Do you have a link for Jake talking about Jen? I've not heard Jake talk about her for ages and I'd love to hear more of this.

Well..i watched the good girl last night with my 5 friends.

They tore the movie apart! saying it was the worst movie they had ever seen, how Jake was ugly and his voice was stupid..they said nothing happened..incredibly boring..i could go on.

But..in my oppinion i thought it was a good movie. Not great, and definatley not one of Jakes best, but he did play his character brilliantly.

They also didnt like BB..'boring'..'nothing happened'..and DD >:( it makes me so angry that they can't appreciate two brilliant films!

While they're all into hannah montana (*rolls eyes*) and HSM (eeurrghh)

I am nearly a year older than them..but is it normal for 17 year olds to still love High School Musical :P haha..well anyway.

Rant Over.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Erin! ANd good for you for sticking up for The Good Girl to your friends -maybe one of these days they'll see the light - when they've grown out of High School Musical :DD Fortunately most of my friends are Jakers and/or Brokies - makes things a lot easier! I'm glad you got to see the film and thanks for telling us about it :D

Hi WDW,

GG, MM and BBM all connected with me, so I never tire of them. I agree, Jake has a wonderful voice, I tend to notice that a lot in actors, it's a huge part of acting, and I've loved Jake's from the start.

I happened to watch Iron Man last night, I missed it at the theaters and I want to see the sequel, and I don't like to read books or see movies out of order. lol
I was so pleasantly surprised, it was great! RDJ was not only good but sexy, and I loved Gwynneth's role as Pepper. A fun story too. Can't wait for the sequel.

Have a great Sunday all -

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon! Love to have a name for you :) SO glad to hear you liked Iron Man. I can't stand superhero movies but I thought this was something else. RDJ was just great in it and I even enjoyed Gwynnie! But it's extra special as Ruby and I saw RDJ and Gwynneth live on the Jonathan Ross Show straight after the premiere, on 24 April last year - can't believe it's a year ago (this is when Ruby comes along and reminds me it was actually 2 years ago....). I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I hope you're having a good Sunday :D

i saw the soloist last also both robert and jamie both gave execelent preformances i didnt realize before that catherine keener was also in it and i also thought of the conection they had with jake and also reminded me of zodiac because rdj played a columnist for the la times

Out of curiousity..were the Jonathon Ross tickets free? I know i tried to apply for the Weakest Link last year..but didn't hear anything..but i would love to see Jonathon Ross live..was it a first come first serve basis when you arrived? If so how early did you have to be there? :P

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there 16:10, I'm just waiting to see Catherine Keener in Nailed with Jake... :D

Hey 18:07 :D They were free but they took about 6 months to come and so it's pot luck who you get to see - the aim was to see Jake in October but we got tickets for the following April! I asked at the studio if they ever let anyone in without a ticket and they were adamant that they would not. You apply for tickets from Jonathan's production company from what I remember. Do apply! We were very lucky to see RDJ (and the Ting Tings :D)
