Congratulations Peter and Maggie!

Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal wed yesterday 'at a small chapel on the grounds of the luxury hotel Masseria in Brindisi near Rome, Italy. There were about 40 guests including Maggie's brother Jake and Reese Witherspoon.' And in the glimpses we can see Jake (plus hat) and his parents, Stephen and Naomi. Many, many congratulations to Peter and Maggie! Huge thanks to IHJ for the happy news.

The day also included a bike ride through the old streets with Jake, Maggie and Peter.

In the picture below, you can just see Ramona in the child seat with her pink helmet.

I always cry at weddings... I may have to dig out Mike Newell's Enchanted April to watch today.

Congratulations Maggie and Peter!

Does anyone know why they got together :P were they working on a movie together?

just curious..

Morning everyone! Wonderful news to wake up to :DD

Hi Anon :D I don't think they were working together. I did read somewhere that on on their first dates they screened each other's films to each other, such as Secretary. They seem like a good fit :) I bet Ramona had quite some day!

Am very happy for Maggie and Peter! Wonderful news!

Less happy with the hat. I wish he's just lose it...

Hi there Anna! Hope you're having a good weekend. Yes, the hat has gotta go!At least for weddings and the like...

The weather looks gorgeous on their wedding day! although Maggie's leaf crown looks a bit like she just won the Olympic game :P

Jake looks like the handsomest student tourist on that bike :)

Let's hope this is as much as the paps could get out of the wedding.

Congratulations, Maggie & Peter!
And what perfect choice for a wedding venue!

Love & hugs to you, WDW & all!...

Hi Winterbird! A May wedding in the Italian sunshine - gorgeous. I like Maggie's flowers more than I like Jake's hat... ;D But I love how Jake looks on the bike. I wonder if they got lost - I'm always getting lost in new places while out exploring. I do hope we get an official photo - I would love to see what they were all wearing. Lovely to see you yesterday *)

Love and hugs to you too, Paola *) It was so good seeing you yesterday xx I like how we were out having fun together while Peter and Maggie were celebrating their day.

Good morning, Wet Dark!
I am without words ...
My eyes were full of tears when I saw the photos.
Congratulations to Maggie & Peter!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Monica! I felt just the same and the setting is so beautiful :)

LOL! I agree Jake's hat is not doing much for me, but Maggie's flowers look gorgeous. I've always liked her off-beat style and I'm glad her wedding photos so far show she hasn't lost her individual sense of style.
By the way, "masseria" is another name for traditional southern Italy country house/farm, and lots of hotels in the Brindisi area carry that name (sort of "country chic")...

I look forward to seeing an official photo too, in due course.

I've checked some Italian media websites, but so far no confirmed reports of the wedding having taken place...
Will keep an eye later today...

Cheers
Paola

Aww, wonderful, congratulations to Maggie and Peter!!

Italy, so romantic! Maggie looks so beautiful. Jake looks really great but I do wish he didn't wear the hat either.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Paola, thanks for that local information - it just sounds delightful. I know it's Brindisi but I'm thinking about Tuscany now :) My one experience of Brindisi was getting on a boat for Turkey many years ago - I don't think I was in the same bit at all! Do let us know if you see anything in th Italian media :D

Hi Get Real! It is wonderful! Yep, the hat is not a hit. Jake looks so beautiful without it. I'm surprised Naomi didn't make him take it off! Or maybe he kept putting it back on when she wasn't looking :D

Am I the only one who thought Jake looked distinguished wearing the hat? ;-) Let's briefly review Jake's troubled history regarding hats: he's had trouble finding hats that fit properly, so he's got to make use of the few that do fit. Anyway, there was a generational change away from hats sometime in the 1960s--I blame John F Kennedy in particular. Since Jake has been seen in hats so often lately, I suspect that he wants movie productors to see how nice his hat looks and subconsciously realize that Jake would be a natural for period films about the 1930s or 1940s.

The pictures of the Gyllengaards on bicycles were charming. Jake has often spoken about his family being honorary Italians, and this means (apparently) getting married *in* Italy.

Jake looks good without hats, too, though....

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Paul! It's very possible ;D I love our hat discussions, it's right up there with his hair (in more ways than one...) I think Jake can look great in a hat - especially Beanies and caps. I can't help linking Jake's wearing of this type of hat with making the Blame It video in the New Year and he's definitely working that look - it is possible this could be to attract the attention of producers. He could have his mind on something he wants to do. Or he could just love that hat! My issue with it is how it pulls his hair up at the front. In the biking pics, it's great to see Jake and the family, without the hat :D

I remember Jake describing his family as being like an Italian family. I can see why Maggie might want an Italian wedding - away from LA and NYC, and also away from big cities anywhere or somewhere where one might have expected them to marry, like MV, where it might have had a totally different atmosphere. This has an air of being away from it all, but with some expensive chic :D

I realise I'm waffling and thinking out loud here. That's because the coffee shops round me are all closed...

I'm so getting married in Italy!:)
Gorgeous country.

Congrats to Maggie and Peter!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Good to see you Zodiac! Can I come? Do give me fair warning so that I can get a hat :D I hope things are good with you xx

I meant to say before how much I really liked Maggie's cycling outfit.

acquaalta said...

I was close ... so close!!!!
I'll probably never get any closer to Jake. Well, I was on the other side of Southern Italy but nonetheless - at least it was the same country!!!!
Ok, I'm calming down now.
What a beautiful location for a happy event. Congratulations to the happy couple and best wishes.
And about that hat ... It's quite a common thing to wear in southern Italy it seems. Don't know who set the trend, Jake or the Italians but he fits in perfectly. That doesn't mean I am pro that hat though. :)
Hope you all had a great weekend, it's nearly over here already ... argh!!! All the best!

OMG! OMG! OMG!
They finally did it!
YAYY!
I wish them many years of blissful marriage!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

You're so close, Acquaalta! What a beautiful country you live in. Maybe Jake was trying to blend in :D I hope you've had a lovely weekend too - we have another day here very luckily.

They certainly did, Dailing! I thought they were going for mine and Mr WDW's record :D

I am very happy for Maggie and Peter and what a romantic place for them to get married.

I was wondering, (I have never been to Italy and only know about the most famous places)

Is this pic of Heath and his family (taken around 2002 I think) anywhere near where Maggie got married. The pic of Jake by that door reminded me of this pic of Heath

There is a park there were cats roam around.

just curious

Hi Sweetpea - thanks for a lovely pic of Heath in Italy. I'll leave it to any Italian readers or Heathens who may be able to locate that picture :D

Congratulations to Maggie and Peter. I hope they had a lovely day.

Oh, dear Jake. I can't believe you wore the hat. :/ Please get over it soon. It doesn't look cool. Really.

I do love the cycling outfit though. :)

acquaalta said...

I don't live there, I was just on holidays ... uhhh. Seems to be something I have in common with Jake. Only that it wasn't for my sister's wedding but just for fun. ;)

Could Jake ever blend in anywhere??
Well, he probably could ... being right in front of me and I wouldn't realize it. lol

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Rubes :D The cycling outfits were just great. A good way to relax before The Big Moment too. Hope you're doing well today *)

Ooh, well I hope you had a lovely holiday Acquaalta - what a great place to go. Barring film festivals, it's been far too long since I've been to Italy. I love the area around Sorrento. Ahh, I think if Jake stood right in front of you, you'd know him :) Sigh...

I hope everyone's having a smashing day :D I wonder if Jake's doing some more exploring, eating and drinking some amazing food and enjoying evenings outdoors, soaking it all in.... I could do that...

It's a lovely day and what wonderful news to wake up to this morning. So happy for Peter and Maggie - huge congratulations to them. I wonder if Ramona was the flower girl... how adoreable would that be.

Jake's hat doesn't seem out of place over there, I hope he has a lot of fun with it... reminds me of the 'Rat Pack' guys. I can imagine his beautiful blue eyes peering out from under the rim... stunning.

I love Italy but am only familiar with Rome and I hear there are much better parts than Rome so I can imagine how enchanting a place it could be.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba! I bet Ramona was a beautiful happy flower girl and I wonder if Jake was a beautiful happy best man :D I've never been to a part of Italy I haven't liked, I think this was a wonderful choice. I think my favourite part is the Amalfi coast. And Maggie and Peter and their family will be able to do it with such style. The hat is most definitely ratpacky ;D

get real said...

Sigh, Italy looks so beautiful in the pics. Last time I was there was a few years ago and I so want to go back!

You know Sheba, the hat is growing on me...I may even like it.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Me too, Get Real :)

OMG Don't say you're going over to the Dark Hat Side? Fight it, Get Real!

Hello, replying to sweetpea's post above.
That foto of Heath, I believe, was taken in Rome, in 2002, while he was there on location shooting The Order.
I remember seeing other pics, apparently taken the same day, where I could recognise things in the background that definitely told me it was Rome ("Atac" on side of buses - Atac is the local transport company, and "Via del Governo Vecchio" on road signs - Via del Governo Vecchio is a famous road in Rome's historic centre).

I loved that entire series of pics. Heath looked gorgeous and I loved seeing him photographing interesting spots with his zoom camera... *sigh*

~~

Good to see you, acquaalta!
I hope you had a wonderful time in Sicily!

xxx

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks so much for that, Paola! I hadn't seen this series of photos of Heath before.

So Acquaalta was in Sicily? I would love to go there. I've read so much about Syracuse and I've always wanted to go there. This is the classical archaeologist in me who loved travelling around Italy, Greece and Turkey some years ago on what was an adventure! I never made it to Sicily though despite my thing for Plato when I was a student.

Waffling on again....

LOLOL, WDW! I am swept up in the romance of all of it and Jake is swoon worthy in that setting! ;)

My brother had a destination wedding, in New Orleans, and it was magical. It is so exciting to see them do this. And in Italy....I want to be there with them so badly! :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

It is very romantic, Get Real :) It's hard to stay immune. Oh but New Orleans, what a fantastic place for a wedding! - I bet you had a great time. That part of the US is one of my most favourite places on the planet. I love all the romantic posts here today :)

Yay! I`m so happy for Maggie and Peter! Congratulations to them! What a beautiful place for a wedding, I hope they had a lovely day. I`m jealous, I`ve never been to Italy.

But I can`t believe Jake wore that damn hat! Come on! I would probably love it on Jake if we lived in the period it was in fashion (and if Jake wore it properly, I agree with you WDW) but we are in 2009. And I`ll say it again, Jake has the most beautiful head of hair, he doesn`t need to cover it up. Unless it`s for security reasons and I should be the judge of that! :D

An official wedding photo would be great but I`m not sure it`s Magie and Peter`s style to make that public. I would love to see Ramona as a flower girl! :)

Olympia

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Olympia :D Glad you caught me before I go off to bed. Yep, with hair like that I want to see it :D But I do like chatting about Jake's hair and hats... (and shoes). But Jake looks quirky in the hat and I've always loved him for that. I do hope we get to see an official photo complete with flower girl Ramona, but I completely understand if we don't. I like that Peter and Maggie are like that.

Carol said...

Congrats to Maggie and Peter:) Couldn't think of a nicer place to get married than Italy. May they have a future filled with happiness.

Hello WDW and everyone. :)

Oh boy, I can't stop smiling this morning. It's so strange to see Jake, Maggie, Peter in a setting that so familiar to me. I'm not exactly from Puglia but I'm quite close.

Crongratulations Maggie and Peter for their wedding of course but even for choosing one of the most beautiful place in Italy, rich not just in pleasantness but even in history.
A little bit country-chic perhaps but at least not predictable.

Besides, there are new pics on IHJ this morning of Jake, Reese and Naomi biking along the Insenatura Acquaviva.
Isn't it magic?

Have a good day.:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! A holiday here, I'm glad to say.

Morning Carol!

Hi Xenia :D Thanks for that link - what a beautiful area, just stunning. I know nothing about Puglia at all. It is strange seeing Jake in areas we know. I think it's even stranger when its the whole clan! They must love it there. I put the link in the new post.

I'm taking it easy today :) Have a good one everyone!
