Jake Gyllenhaal heading for Ireland? And 'Do I look like Tobey Maguire?'

Time to dust off the Lucky Nike, charge that camera battery and dose up on anti-flu remedy! We have premieres! Contrary to what I had feared, Jim Sheridan isn't going to release Brothers accidentally this winter and just hope someone somewhere notices and maybe buys a ticket. Instead, Jim has decided that he's going to help perk up recession-stricken theatre audiences by giving them what they want. That can mean only one thing - Jake Gyllenhaal is the official Gloom Buster!

Jim tells us that the movie will get its big premiere in New York City (as one had hoped but not entirely expected) but, with a shout out to his homeland, Jim intends to bring the stars to Ireland for red carpets and, if they're lucky, a pint of the black stuff and some of that famous Irish hospitality.

'Oscar-winning director Jim explained how the release date had now been set for his long-awaited movie, which he described as a "love story", and he hopes to be rolling out the red carpet in Ireland. "Its official release date is December so we're going to have a proper premiere in New York for that, but what I really want is to have a premiere in Ireland as well, probably in late November... We filmed the movie in New Mexico and it stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Toby Maguire," he said. He added how a glitzy premiere with some of the movie world's biggest names was the "perfect tonic" to all the doom and gloom that has prevailed in Ireland over the recent months.'

You can read more here - how good it is to see Brothers in the news - may we have more soon... One of the film's actors, Clifton Collins Jr, has also been talking about appearing in the film - you can see the video of that interview here. Please forgive the zombies - this video is infested with them.

Jake on set!

Meanwhile, back in the 'Burgh, it's great to get a set photo (courtesy of Timesonline) and see that Oliver Platt is making Jake laugh and that a good time is being had. This article covers two scenes that were filmed on Monday, one of which involved Jake getting very wet indeed - an expected bonus, I feel, for every Jake movie. In a scene reminiscent of more than one Zodiac scene, Jake had to run across the asphalt in Aliquippa while having water chucked over him. A slight exaggeration perhaps but wetness is the result.

'Only a handful of spectators witnessed the action on the closed set, though plenty of locals saw an earlier scene, where Gyllenhaal sits in a black Mercedes Benz with driver Oliver Platt (“Dr. Doolittle”) at the wheel. The car was stationary, towed by a trailer behind an Aliquippa police escort, though in the movie it’ll look like they’re cruising down Mill Street.'

'They made three trips up and down Mill Street, bringing traffic to a crawl. For about 15 minutes, the car and its trailer were stopped on Calvert Street, near the CVS Drug Store, while film crew workers made adjustments. That gave a few onlookers a chance to speak with Gyllenhaal. “Hey Spider-Man,” said Joey Hages, 19, of Aliquippa, who shook Gyllenhaal’s hand. “Did you like ‘Spider-Man 3’?” Gyllenhaal asked politely, not letting on that it was Tobey Maguire who played that superhero role.'

For crying out loud, people!! I hope and pray that, if Brothers doesn't confuse everyone completely, Prince of Persia will at least clear some things up. Good for Jake though for being such a great sport. I suspect that he and Tobey have some kind of bet going.

Meanwhile, Atticus was in a trailer while Reese was in a tent being observed by several policemen. Reese's representatives have yet to comment on claims that she was engaged in helping them with their enquiries. You can read it all here. It's great to see that Jake's Toucher and possibly a Retoucher is being gainfully employed once more.

Tweets today suggest that Jake, and Love and Other Drugs, may be causing some excitement and more traffic troubles in downtown Pittsburgh.

Brothers News! Brothers News! Yay!

It's getting to the point that I don't really care WHAT the news is as long as there is news on this movie. It's been feeling a bit like the studio has no interest or money to put into the promotion of this movie and that is a real disappointment to me. Maybe things are looking up after all!

Thanks for the info WDW! Hope you're enjoying your time off.

*waits for more Pittsburgh Pics*

:-)

Wonderful news about Brothers!! Who is going to NY and Ireland????!?

I've emailed my Pittsburgh-born American friend, she said she asked her family if they know Jake Gyllenhaal is in town, they apparently didn't know! So I guess they wouldn't be included in that 68% of the locals featured in the film.

I want more Love and Other Drugs on site pics!

I'm delighted about Brothers.I am also baffled at the constant mix ups btwn Toby and Jake!. Just Mystified.I like Toby. He's a very, very good actor and I enjoyed Cider House, Seabiscuit, Spidey, etc. He's even worked with Ang Lee in a sort of western/cowboy movie, post-Civil War. (in America.) I'm sure his wife is very happy with her "hunk," but in which lifetime could anyone get Toby Maguire mixed up with JAKE GYLLENHAAL?????
It's just not happening.
I've heard the same about Toby and Elijah Wood. People get them mixed up. But no one looks like Jake. No one. Period. Jake is Perfection. Complete Perfection.

Hi there everyone! I'm proud of myself - got a post out while being sucked in by my brand new Jaking tool - a blackberry :) It's so cute... ahem :)

Hi BBMISwear! I'm with you on Brothers news. It's about bloody time, Jim! Yep, want more pics and big pics :-)

Hey Monica! I have the script but I've only read the opening scene and I thought ti was incredible, so I thought I'd wait. But a cowboy hat scene?! Like the sound of that.

That's good news about Dr P in Brazil :D

Hi Winterbird! Can I say one word....? ROADTRIP! I fancy crossing that sea again - especially as I am still on a quest to find the perfect pint of draught Guiness - fom a pump, not from a tap. My research to date has been pleasant :D And throw Jake into the mix and I'm a very happy WDW :) I'm glad to hear you're educating your Pittsburgh friends :D

Drusilla, you are a Hockenmocker after my own heart!! I cannot fathom for the life of me why anyone would confuse anyone with the perfection that is Jake! And I feel sorry and exasperated for Jake that he still gets this! Does anyone ever tell Tobey how much they enjoyed Brokeback? I like Tobey too (kind of) and he is NO Jake Gyllenhaal and Jake is no Tobey Maguire (phew).

I hope everyone's having a good evening :D

Personal plea... Would anyone who has my number text me so that I can have your numbers saved? I didn't think to copy contacts over in my excitement... :D

OMG I couldn't believe what I just read... so I had to read it twice:) Brothers Irish premiere. I was so hoping Jim Sheridan would do something like this but I never thought it might happen. That news has made my day. I will definitely be heading to Dublin for that. If anyone needs help in finding a good pint of the Black Stuff I'd be more than willing to assist:)

Jake is definitely looking hot on the LAOD set. Looking forward to seeing himself and Anne on the set together soon.

Haven't had time to post for the last couple of weeks as working crazy hours for year end at work but I have been reading and enjoying the posts. Really liked the Parade interview with Peter. Thanks BBMISwear and WDW.

Very exciting about the Brothers premiere in Ireland - I really can't wait to see it. Love Oliver Platt too - LaOD is going to be interesting I think. Where's Anne? Jake and a cowboy hat . . . I think he was the handsomest cowboy in a black hat I have ever seen. :)

Good morning everyone! My last day of freedom... gulp...

Hey Carol! I immediately thought of you when I saw this - I had a real feeling that Jim would want to bring the film to Ireland. Do let us know if you hear anything.. And yeay! Could get us a Jaking Get together :D I have such fond memories of biking round Ireland some time ago, I'd love to go back. Good luck with all the work and very glad to see you here :)

Hi Anon! Oh yes, a fine cowboy :D Jake looks so hot, it's going to be amazing to have a whole film with Jake looking like this. I wouldn't mind getting a good look at that hair... I believe Anne is due to start filming from the start of October so any day now :D

I hope everybody has a good day! It's great seeing and heaing all these little bits coming out of Pittsburgh :D

Yeah thats me! Joey Hages the kid from aliquippa that thought jake was Toby Maguire haha. Some just told me that was spiderman in the car so thats why i yelled "spiderman" towards Jake. I knew who Jake was bc he plays in one of my favorite movies "jarhead" it just slipped my mind because it was in the heat of the moment. So im just leaving this post because i want to clear my self up becuase alot of my friends gave me hell for that haha. Thanks.

Hi Joey! Thanks for dropping by! I'm sorry you're friends are giving you hell for this, but you really weren't the first to confuse Jake with Tobey on set and you won't be the last. It sounds like there have been others and Jake gets a laugh out of it. Just as long as people also confuse Tobey for Jake... I've seen a few stars over the years and I know what it does to me.

Jarhead is a fabulous movie.

Sorry if I added to the agro - but thanks for taking it so good naturedly :D
