Update: Premiere of Alanis Morissette's PoP Song. New Jake Gyllenhaal interview - 'In a list of fears for the movie, no 1 would be the ostriches'

Update: After all the talk yesterday, follow this link to the premiere of Alanis Morissette's 'I Remain', which was written especially for The Prince of Persia. Let me know what you think! Alanis: 'It's an honor to write from the voice of an empowered princess about a love that empowers them both to new heights, healing and consciousness... The song wrote itself and this story was the ultimate muse.'

In advance of Jake Gyllenhaal's appearance at WonderCon in San Francisco this Saturday, Coming Soon has released a video interview with Jake recorded at that fabulous set that we are becoming used to from each Thursday's fan question. You can watch it here.

In this great interview, Jake discusses many aspects of working on Prince of Persia ('Is this a dream?' he asked himself at the beginning of making the film) - including the challenge of The Accent. 'In a list of fears for the movie, number one would be ostriches, number two would be the accent and number three would be swordfighting. I know in British culture... and the British are highly suspect of an American doing a British accent - as am I. I was nervous to do it right and get it right. There are so many dialects and so many ways to speak and I wanted to do it service.'

On being asked how he thought he did, Jake says: 'I'm actually pretty proud of myself. I don't want to be presumptuous but I worked very, very hard and I think we pulled it off.' Well, speaking as one of those highly suspect Brits, you did a bloody good job, Jake, and you should be proud of yourself! Not sure what the ostriches think...

At WonderCon, we hear that Jake will be introducing another new clip from the film.

Morning everyone! What a great way to start the day :D

Yes it is! Good morning and thanks for the interview. He looks so serene. I loved the fire behind him - sort of a metaphor for his personality.

The excitement is being ramped up for this film, I need to contain this feeling of waiting and waiting.

BTW, in your last post I like the idea of Alanis Morrisette doing the sound track for PoP. Also, I'm so glad you've heard of Dogma, one of my favourite films (big fan of Kevin Smith). Keven had the vision to make God a woman - that says a lot about him in my book. If the song is as haunting as 'you're not alone' with such fantastic lyrics then she would have done it justice.

Jake, you did very well with the accent. I admit I was very skeptical that you could pull it off ('cos I heard the interview with Chris Moyles) and now I am ashamed not to trust your talent ;D

I'm intrigued about the ostriches, would love to know what happened over there.

Thanks for lighting up this gloomy looking day with Jake glow :DD

Morning Sheba :D He looks amazing - and very relaxed. Certainly know Dogma - it's a really good film :) Alanis was one of the reasons I went to see it. I cannot wait to see the ostrich scene in PoP! My pleasure :D

Sorry, I meant the song 'Uninvited'

There's a you tube video with Alanis' name, the title track, a PoP image but no music *rolls eyes*.

Wow brilliant screen caps... he looks wonderful, very relaxed & seems to be enjoying the whole POP experience as we are!!!
Thanks for post x

That definitely deserves rolling eyes, Sheba!

My pleasure, T! It's great to see Jake enjoying all this so much :D

What a great answer, but I think his accent is great, and I'm impressed by how much he respects that part of his role, and worked hard to get it right. :) Can't wait to see! I'm off to listen to "Uninvited", haven't heard it for awhile. :)

Morning y'all
What a lovely man. He is humble, true to himself and honest to a fault. God Bless him. I can't wait to see him in this movie; I'll try not to lose my mind waiting for the premiere.

Been lurking for about a week or so but wanted to comment. Have been a fan of Jake since BBM(and maybe even a bit before with Donnie Darko) and recently found this lovely blog. You do great work. Only wish my other fave, Dicaprio, had something like this.

I live in the US but also was suspect of the accent as I am a bit of an anglophile and really get annoyed at Americans doing bad accents. But, Jake(and Maggie, for that matter) makes it look effortless(at least in the previews). And it just makes him even hotter.

Me thinks that the interviewer had a bit of a fangirl moment or two. But, can you blame her?

And you can tell that though he's still the same fun-loving Jake, he's much more serious in this interview. He's growing up but in a good way.

Oh and yay for Alanis...been a fan of hers since Jagged Little Pill. And what a great surprise when I saw Dogma in the theatre and there she was in her little tutu and flip flops.

Gah, can't wait for may 28th to get here!

Back home and finished for Easter! Yahoo! If only I hadn't already eaten all my Easter eggs...

Hi Bertie! I like that Jake respected it too, as judging by some people's accents in movies, not everyone does. But Jake puts his heart into his roles and Dastan is no different - fab!

He is indeed, Sass :) Makess the heart beat quite a bit faster... Sorry about the word verification thing. Thanks for persevering. You can make the screen bigger (with control and +) but there is an option to listen to the word instead. Although having said that Uli played with that option and she was getting into all kinds of trouble! Funny for me though :D Good to see you *)

Yeay! Stace! Welcome and thank you so much for taking the trouble to post - I really appreciate it and I hope you come back :D Always so good to see s new face with a name! And thank you - I'm really happy that you're enjoying the blog. If you're new I hope that you'll find some things to interest you in the archives from the last 3 years. Blimey, 3 years... feel old now...

I'm looking forward to seeing Nanny McPhee over the weekend to see/hear what Maggie's accent is like - I hear it's very good. I wonder if she and Jake and Peter all compared!

Agreed about the interviewer! Although to give her some credit I don't think I'd have stayed conscious... Me too with Alanis :D

Welcome again Stace and do come back!

I hope everyone's having a good day and poutting up with the weather. I've just been hailed on - lovely...

I've only heard a little bit of Jake's Englis accent in the previews I've seen. I'll give you my full evaluation after I see the movike as a whole, but so far so good! I actually prefer it to some of the other accents Jake has done.

WDW,

Thank you so much for the fine welcome! I've been out of the fangirl-verse for a while and things have gotten so fast-paced! I am sticking to blogs and facebook because I'm too busy for all these other things.

But, yes, I still need to see An Education. Strange that I haven't since I've been watching Kerri Mulligan in things for years(mainly BBC period dramas). And of course, Peter is always excellent at whatever he does. One of my faves being Garden State.

Anyway, I tend to ramble and I've got errands and job searching to do.

Thanks again for all the great Jake-ness.

one word....INTENSE! everytime I see Jake talking about this movie I want to be able to see it right NOW. The trailers don't do me much good cause I want more!

is it May yet?

thanks WDW

What a great way to start the day indeed! Nothing like sipping on your first mug of tea of the day at 6:00AM and finding this WONDERFUL video to wake up to! Whoowheee...can I have one of these EVERY morning?!?!

I laughed so hard at the ostrich and British accent fears!! Mr. Charming per usual - looking forward to more stuff just like this!

Happy holiday days off WDW...you lucky one! More time to find great Jake stuff to post for us...LOL!

Until next time... :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Paul! I hope you'll still be impressed when you hear it all :D I like the idea of Jake doing an accent so different from his own.

Thanks Stace! I do hope you get to see An Education soon - Garden State was an incredible movie. Do ramble away, I do a fair amount of that myself :D

Never enough, Sweetpea :)

Hey BBMISwear :-) Yeah, we should have a new Jake video as a start to every day! This was a wonderful start. Jake looking so beautiful and being his charming, funny and gently self.... sigh. Oh yes! Great to have some days off for some proper Jaking :D

For anyone interested a new post at MovieBrit about Remaiking Goldie Hawn (and Fincher makes his mind up?)

Updated post here with a link to the premiere of Alanis Morissette's theme to PoP! Listening to it right now :D

I finally got a chance to watch the video, I had to wait till the coworker who temporarely shares my office went home. Tax season really sucks! But I have to say the wait was well worth it, what a treat! It was hard concentrating on what Jake was saying, I was mesmerized by his beautiful hands. And can I say again how much I love that sweater?

I agree with Stace (welcome, by the way), that interviewer definately had fangirl moments, flipping her hair and the way she laughed at his jokes? But she did good, if I was in her place, I don't think I could even ask a question. :)

When is WonderCon?

I'm so jealous that you're already on Easter break, WDW. Lucky you!

Never mind my question about WonderCon, I read the post too fast and had skipped that part.

The song is very nice. :)

I love the song - it's not sweet-sweet, and has a bit of an edge to it. I love how it starts - "how dare he" or something like that. The title and refrain remind me of the closing of a love letter. It does sound like Alanis. I love the lyrics, I can imagine the Princess really saying them, when she sees another side to the Prince. I don't know the whole story of course, just guessing. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Olympia! I'm glad you got to see it - I misread your comment as cow worker... I wondered what sort of office that was! I hope your tax season is over very season. ooh yes, lovely top Jake's wearing there. I get fascinated by it when I watch this video.

I read a sad thing about the interviewer. Her grandmother, I think it was, died just a few days before and she wasn't right for interviewing but Jake was very kind. I think she did an amazing job in the circumstances :)

I'm very lucky! I am so ready for a break, especially after having that fluey thing last week. Oh, I really like Alanis' PoP Song! I'm gonna bore everyone with that joke for days - apologies in advance. And thanks for welcoming Stace *)

The Clangers are on TV - life is good :)

Hi 22:57! Posting at the same time :D It's interesting reading Alanis' words (now added to the post) that it's from Tamina's point of view and I like that a lot. I like the song a lot.

I've been swooning over I Remain ever since I heard it! :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I can understand that 23:04! It makes me think of oases, colourful fabrics flapping in the desert winds and a very hot prince with scarves, belts and beads in his hair :)

Anonymous said...

It does. And a Princess whose first impressions were wrong. :)

Ohhh what an exciting post! :D Jake looks so hot in that interview :) my favourite look for him. I love how relaxed he is too.

I adore that song! I was nervous at first, having a well known artist doing the closing song (after hearing Avril Lavignes closing song on Alice and Wonderland yesterday. Shocking choice, a real mood killer i thought) but this really proved me wrong, i love it.

Also its interesting to note that yesterday my wonderful cinema had 8 posters in total advertising the prince! 8! I counted them :) Two giant bilboards, exactly the same, side by side. Then a whole display just as you walk to the screens, with smaller Jakes stuck on one big Jake. It was quite a sight :) Such a contrasting to the despicable advertising of Brothers.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Definitely, 23:14 :)

OMG Silver! Loving your cinema! I've not been to mine for a fortnight due to being sick but I'm off there tomorrow (I have to learn how to train my dragon) and I'll be looking out. Last time they had a HUGE PoP poster in the entrance and then the old poster further back.

Jake in this video? Gorgeous - absolutely gorgeous. And I'm so relieved by this song too. That awful song at the end of Avatar (I've not heard the Alice one). But this is great! And Alanis Morissette's songs always have an edge to them. I cannot wait for this film!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning! I'm trying VERY HARD not to crack any jokes....

sheba said...

Don't get me started on Avatar, I don't know how I stayed through to the end.

Thanks for the update WDW, I love Alanis's song. It's very appropriate for the end credits and when I finally get to see the movie it will be even more meaningful. I want to be transported when I see a movie and the song already does that for me. Well done Alanis.

I'm trying VERY HARD not to crack any jokes....

Pourquoi?

The lyrics give me chills - very powerful for this type of movie, I think. It makes the romance a bit confusing and complicated for Tamina. And where it's a closing song, it implies the romance isn't the primary thing about the film, so there will be something for everone. I love it. Hooray! Can't wait.

I haven't yet heard the song, but I've been hypnotized by Jake's interview. I love watching Jake interviews! He has so much poise, and he's smart and articulate, too.

I loved the way he phrased his answer to how he managed the accent. Honest, modest, and yet,"Hey,I did a good job."

Just one question: How in the world could that girl sit with him and manage to keep her hands off! He is irresistable! And he was definitely flirting. (I caught those little 'secret' smiles...sigh!)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hello! Just got back from seeing How to Train your Dragon - loved it! And it took me 2 hours to drive what normally takes 20 mins! Every single person in Britain is out on the roads this evening buying chocolate.

Hi there Sheba! Ooh I adored Avatar :D Yep, this song does the trick, it really does - I've lost count of how many times I've listened to it today.

April Fools Day! So trying to behave and not do jokes :D

Hey 15:56 :D I love the lyrics - it really tells me a story and made me want to see the film even more - who'd have thought it. And I've been relistening to Alanis' old stuff too :)

Hi 16:02 :) He's simply gorgeous and he's wonderful at interviews like this - what a change from the Rendition topics. It's good to see Jake enjoying it all. And yes, touch of the flirts :)

I hope everyone's having a good day and is not just spending the day stuck in a car and/or listening to this driving rain we have here...

Good afternoon fellow Gyllenhaalics(is that right? I'm new to this. LOL)

Oh, Alanis did not disappoint! Lovely song and I am a bit biased anyway because I am a huge fan of Middle Eastern music, being an amateur belly dancer and all. It did make me want to get up and do some figure 8's and flowy snake arm movements, though. Very beautiful melody. I think I may die if there is any belly dancing in this movie. I'd gladly volunteer to do some dancing for Jake...

Sorry, TMI, but I got inspired. ;)

Oh and what do you know I am employed now! It's waiting tables but it's like my fallback job and I am ready to do it again after so many years. I live to serve!

I hope you are having a great evening WDW...I may watch an Education sometime this weekend.

Peter Sarsgaard impresses me more and more. He was fantastic in "Flightplan." Then I saw him in "Jarhead." Then "The Year of the Dog," followed by "Rendition" and "Orphan," and most recently "An Education." He's an actor's actor, always embedding himself deeply in the characters he plays.

This morning I had a "Donnie Darko" moment with my computer. For three days I've been unable to get my "Internet Explorer" screen to come up on my monitor. This morning I called tech support for Compaq [my computer's a Compaq.] The guy on the phone was friendly and helpful, and had a cool Texas accent. He suggested that I pick a date from the past and restore the computer's settings to what they were on that date. So, my computer travelled back in time to avert the destruction of the Internet universe! Tay!

Hi Stace! Good to see you again and I'm glad to hear you've found work. And a belly dancer too, eh? I think in one of the behind the scenes clips there were belly dancers :)

Enjoy An Education :) I intend to take it very easy this weekend!

Hey Paul! You are so right about Peter. I never fail to be impressed by him. He does do some odd movies - I'm wondering about Knight and Day and this new thing he's filming (Green Lantern?) but he's the kind of actor who can mix these money earners with very interesting and brave choices. Also, I thought Peter was brilliant in Jarhead and Rendition.

Glad you got your PC fixed! Since Firefox did its last update I've not looked back. It had loads of bugs before and now is great :)

Hey there 22:25! It is indeed - I've been waiting for it to do a post :D Lovely.
