'Please do not touch the ostrich on set today' - Gemma on JR, Jake Gyllenhaal in action, PoP US premiere and a WDW interlude

Gemma Arterton was on the Jonathan Ross show on Friday night, giving UK TV audiences their first proper look at Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia. At last! The trailer on a primetime TV programme, accompanied by some appreciative comments about Jake from the host himself. Here are two videos from Friday's show, which hopefully you can all see. Thanks to Monica for the heads up! Prince of Persia is also getting some attention from the British news network ITN.

Talking of videos... we have our first glimpse of Source Code in action! In this video, you can actually watch the fight sequence that we saw in still pictures the other day. And Jake is such a gentleman - he takes the time to help the guy to his feet after beating him up.

Some fun facts about Prince of Persia have been released and among them:

'Morocco offered 100+-degree Fahrenheit temps during production. Massive, air-conditioned tents were erected at the Lycee Hassan II school in Marrakesh. One, which was the size of a football field, housed wardrobe, hair and makeup for the film's background players. And adjoining tent was built just for washing and drying. It was a mind-blowing 124 degrees on the last day of Moroccan filming (Merzouga Sand Dunes outside of Erfoud). According to Morocco Facilities Manager Gregoire Mouveau, during filming in that country the "Prince of Persia" company consumed 1,114,894 bottles of water.'

'Typical warnings on call sheets in Morocco: 'PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE OSTRICH ON SET TODAY' or 'BEWARE – SNAKES & SCORPIONS CAN BE FOUND AT THIS LOCATION UNDER AND AROUND THE ROCKS. BE CAUTIOUS.'

'A local Moroccan was hired to clear the shooting areas in the desert of a vipers and scorpions. Donning a t-shirt emblazoned with "Snake Dude," he was easy to spot.'

'Some 20 different versions of the Dagger which holds the Sands of Time were fabricated for the film — from the "hero" version, made of steel, to latex versions, created for stunt sequences.'

'The moment in which Alfred Molina, as Sheikh Amar, kisses his favorite ostrich on the neck was completely unscripted. "I thought I would either get my eye poked out," notes Molina, "or that I would get away with a funny moment."'

'The exterior set of Alamut, designed by Wolf Kroeger, was constructed around the actual 700-year-old walls of the village of Tamesloht, 20 kilometers southwest of Marrakesh. It required 30 miles of scaffold tubing and 400 tons of plaster, with 350 members of the construction crew. The colorful frescoes and mural paintings which adorn the set were painted in seven weeks. The Alamut Eastern Gate set built at Pinewood Studios' "007 Stage," also designed by Wolf Kroeger, required 3,000 eight-by-four-foot sheets of wood, 70,000 feet of three-by-one inch timber, and 40 tons of casting plaster for moldings. It was constructed in a relatively brief 14 weeks.'

'The character who has the most wardrobe changes is not Tamina, played by the beautiful Gemma Arterton, but Nizam, portrayed by Sir Ben Kingsley.'

You can read more fun facts at Filmgecko. Am I the only one to find a tear in my eye at the thought of the tender relationship between Alfred Molina and his favourite ostrich?

As you can see from the poster below, the US premiere of Prince of Persia now has a time and a place.

A WDW interlude

Good morning to you all! Time to go out and sweep my own share of Icelandic volcano off my car and head out into another beautiful warm, sunny day. Yesterday was the Oxford Folk Festival and Ruby and I took advantage of the sunrays to see more Morris Dancers than anyone should be allowed to see on one day (if I hear any more bells...) before taking a look around some of Oxford's beautiful college gardens.

My Flip got a test ahead of any potential events that may be coming up in May...

We even spotted an ostrich? What on earth is that?

Pictures from links, Disney via IHJ, and Ruby and WDW.

Morning everyone! I hope you all have a good Sunday. A beautiful day here :) I love that lego video!!!

J'adore Gemma! And I want to see that indie movie she's doing...I love that guy from 'Happy Go Lucky' he was so amusing in 'Little Dorrit'.

WDW, wish I was there to hang out with you and Ruby and take in the beauty of Oxford. I'd be acting like such a tourist, though. You guys would get tired of me. LOL

I've made a vow to try to minimize the amount of spoiling I do to myself. I almost ruined my viewing of the new Glee episode with spoilers. But, I find that movie spoilers are different because you truly have no idea what's happening until you see it. Case in point, Shutter Island. BTW, loved it and need to see it again because I was completely bamboozled by the protagonist. You should definitely see it, WDW.

In any case, not going to view the video of Source Code action. I don't want to be too spoiled. And even though I've seen so much behind the scenes footage of PoP, I think I will still be uber excited when I see it in the theater.

And the premiere! Why do I have to be all the way on the other coast?! Ack. Anyway, I'm sure there will be plenty of footage on E! and online. Maybe in the future I can plan for these things and start traveling with my celebrity-loving friend[who has met Jake along with every other male celebrity you can name] who practically lives in Cali when she's not working. Or even a fellow Gyllenhaalic would be interested in a road trip...

Anyway, off to a fairly busy Sunday. Taking my niece and nephew(its his birthday this weekend) to see How to Train Your Dragon. What movies are showing PoP previews, btw?

Hi everyone,my name is Silvia I'm Italian, and I'm a new Jake fan! I finally watched Brothers , the movie has some faults but it's still enjoiable due to the tree lead actors. I agree with all you said about Jake, he is so spontaneous and he seems not acting!! His role seems easy on the surface, but is very demanding and he did an outstanding job. I disagree about Tobey instead. Somebody said he is cold at the beginning: well,I think he is supposed to be like that. He loves his family, but also he is not so connected with it, as if he tranferts the relationships of the army hierarchy to his own family. He feels the pressure to be the "hero" because he knows everybody (especially Hank) want he is like that. This situation causes a "psychological stiffness" within himself which is very palpable.
Natalie was amazing too, Grace's role was her most mature I think!!

Hi Stace! Enjoy the movie - I Ioved it. I usually steer clear of spoilers but often with jake I just can't help
myself :)

welcome Sylvia! Fab to know that Brothers has won Jake more fans. Not surprised though, he was so great in it. And thanks so much for commenting. I'm so pleased to see you and your English is excellent :) There are some other Italian readers here too. I love the place as Rome is one of the places where I saw jake :)

hope everyone's having a good day. I'm outside in the warm sunshine Reading a book and with a handy Internet device!

Thanks, WDW!

Gemma was lovely on JR, and I always love the songs the JR band chooses for the guests. :) I may become a regular JR viewer.

So looking forward to PoP - it won't be long now, and lucky you going to the premiere! I know we'll get a great post about it.

The Lego vid was adorable, and I always love your interlude pics, especially today's second one.

Have a great Sunday all -

Bertie

That lego video was fantastic! It's nice to see those pictures we got in motion too, i love to see Jake working. :)

I must want to go to this premiere so badly, because i had a dream about it last night. Brief summary: Arrived late in London, ran to Leicester square, got lots of autographs from people (with POP costumes on) that i didn't know and then left(!?) Realised on way home we didn't wait for Jake (haha) drove back and met Sam Rockwell and Robert Downey Jr. and they wouldn't stop hugging me.

I think i must have been at the iron man 2 premiere, good dream though. hahaha.

Hello WDW, wonderful post, and I'm glad you're making the most of this sunny day :)

Thanks WDW. I've never seen Jake in action before (while filming) ever the gentleman he helps his fellow actor up.

Looks like an intense scene. Do you know when SC is due out in theaters? I guess sometime next year?

Thanks so much, Bertie! I do love that lego video! I'm gonna miss the JR show.

That's quite some dream, Silver! I love that I saw RDJ on the night of the first Iron Man premiere. I hope you have some more Jake dreams but with Jake in them this time!

Hi there Paola! Hope you've enjoyed the sun today :)

Hey Sweetpea :D I don't know when SC will be in the theatres but I imagine quite early next year :)

How nice to sit back and finally enjoy all the wonderful stuff we've been getting after a long, busy week. So much great stuff here...thank you WDW!

I always laugh when my "lunch" with Jake comes up because it wasn't much of a lunch - well, HE ate (although I sure didn't)! LOL! But he let me run my fingers through his hair and that was better than any salad and sandwich any day!!! *ahhh* what memories... *drifts off*

*drifts back* Hey...we've got Ostriches! And Legos! (I still haven't put my 2 PoP Lego sets together yet).

So many things going on I don't even know what to comment on...I saw that PoP Premiere on May 17th as an invitation yesterday and it made me wonder if there will be a couple of different premieres in the States and what other countries. All I know is it means lots of pictures and videos for us so bring it on!!

Lovely photo interludes, WDW - which reminds me - I finally got to watch An Education last night and really enjoyed it (and thought of you a lot)!!

Well I have more catching up to do and plan to enjoy every minute of it...so much stuff to look at...and it isn't even May yet!! :-)

I plan to finally sit down and read GQ tonight...*heavy sigh*

More tomorrow I suppose...

Hi WDW! Hi Freetraveller!
Thank you so much for the warm welcome!!
I'm from the province of Lecce, I think this area shuold sound familiar to you, because It's where Maggie and Peter got married last year! Unfortunately I couldn't see them, what a pity!!

Hi WDaW!

You've already found that Source Code footage on the Youtube too!
Good, I was going to drop my mail to let you know or something...(too late now!)

It seems to me that the footage was broadcasted on some Japanese daytime show...(by reading subtitles says 'Jake Gyllenhaal went on a rampage at the station! (for filmming in Montreal 14th of April.)' with a particular style...
Lol!!

Winterbird (waves), I don't know whether Jake is schedule to come to Japan for his PoP promotion yet since the release date in Japan is set at the same time of the US release (28th of May)...

The other Jake's movie Brothers is now officially titled 'My Brother' in Japanese (lol!) and due to release on 4th of July there too.

So we're very much hoping to welcome Jake back in Tokyo since his The Day After Tomorrow promotion with tons of delicious Sushi and Wagyu Beef ready for him to enjoy!!

BTW, I also enjoyed watching Jonathan Ross show on BBC1 too.
Though I wasn't personally sure of Jake being compared with Nick Cage...(well, I know it was meant be compliment but still... may be better than being mentioned together with Tom Cruise like Peter's quotes...LOL!)

It is so awesome to hear Gemma and Wossy give Jake so much praise for PoP!!! And all the other Gyllen-news, thank you WDW!!!

Stace, I adored "Happy Go Lucky"!

Not sure I love the Nick Cage or Tom Cruise comparisons but I do love the compliments about Jake.

Anonymous said...

Thought the comment about Tom C. from Peter was to say he was another actor who wasn't self-destructive. He is known to work hard and be enthusiastic about his job..things like that.

Get Real said...

Anon, I agree Peter meant it as a compliment. I am just not a big fan of Tom Cruise.

Hey Silvia, lucky you, Lecce looks like a wonderful town, from photos and footage I've seen. But sadly I've never been there (yet).
The region was an amazing backdrop to Maggie's and Peter's wedding, I agree :)
I'm glad you found out about WDW's site. It's the best Jake blog on the net!

I've just watched that Lego video! It's so hilarious and cute!!
Thanks for posting it, WDW.

'Night, all.

I like Nicholas Cage a lot, so it's a compliment to be compared with him. He has a movie coming up ("Sorceror's Aprpentice") in which he trains Jay Baruchel.

I like it that Jake's character in "Source Code" is a gentleman.

Morning everyone! Good to see you all :D Monday, not so good.

Hi Winterbird! May is gonna be busy - dodging ash if nothing else! Fortunately, the ash is managing to disguise how dirty my car is... But it looks like the winds are gonna shift this thing later this week, thank heavens. I need Rufus to be able to get over here for hs tour!

Hey BBMISwear :-) Glad you're catching up - and you saw An Education! I love those Oxford scenes for obvious reasons :D

That's a lovely part of Italy, Sylvia :)

Hey there Pickle! As Winterbird says, I think there's a very good chance Jake will go to Tokyo for the Japan premiere. It all works out well, with the world one on the 9th, the US one on the 17th and the Japanese one at the end of the month. Plus some others in between, I'd have thought. Busy time :D I'm glad to hear Brothers is coming out in Japan too. It's interesting how names change. Like with this new Ewan MacGregor movie. Good to see you!

Hi Get Real! It's so great, isn't it?! Interesting these comparisons with Jake - although I think Jake is the better of all these actors. I respect Tom for his red carpet habits, that's for sure. The way he spends hours with fans, I like that. Nic Cage is one of those actors that has grown on me. I used to not be able to stand him at all, but now I find him intriguing. Partly because of his personality. He's quite an eccentric, living in that mansion of his in Bath over here.

Paola! Thank you so much for that :D

Morning Paul :D I'm looking forward to the Sorcerer's Apprentice, although the original Disney story scared me so much as a child!

My word is 'coment' :D Have a good day! Don't work too hard :)

That second pic of your interlude is just gorgeous! You`re a very talented photographer, WDW.

The Lego video is very cute. I haven`t put my two Lego sets together yet, when I got them I just wanted to have my two Dastans and I put the rest away. :D

All those premieres around the world are great! This means we`ll get a ton of interviews and pics! We`re really gonna go in withdrawals when POP is over, we`ve been so spoiled!

I`m bracing myself for a long and difficult work week so I`m glad I have Jake and this place with you guys to keep me from going nuts. :)

Have a great week everyone!

WDW, I don't think Nicholas Cage's "Sorceror's Apprentice" will be anything like the Disney version from "Fantasia."

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Olympia! I'm trying to take more pictures now I have a new camera and the new Flip. Ruby's wonderful at taking pics :) I've not put my lego together, but I have three mini Dastans now and I have Dastan on an ostrich and Dasta on the horse as a lovely pair of ornaments :)

Thank heavens for that, Paul!

Hi 19:36! I was very surprised to hear Iron Man was cancelled here so prematurely - it's a week away and things are supposed to be clearing up here now. It's a shame. Hopefully, things will be on track for PoP :)

Hi Silver! That came out just as I was doing my post! Normally these things like to wait until 2 minutes until after I've finished it so this was a pleasant change :D It's wonderful! Hopefully we've seen the last of this bloody ash!

New post :D
