The Prince of Persia London premiere will be 'one of the biggest movie events the UK has ever known!''

Thanks to HeyUGuys, here is part of a press release from Disney regarding the London premiere on 9 May. Take some deep breaths, friends, this is gonna be BIG! I need a sit down...

'WORLD PREMIERE ON SUNDAY 9 MAY, 2010 IN SIX COUNTRIES

Film talent attending include:

JAKE GYLLENHAAL, GEMMA ARTERTON, TOBY KEBBELL, RICHARD COYLE and SIR BEN KINGSLEY

Producer JERRY BRUCKHEIMER and Director MIKE NEWELL

On Sunday, 9 May Disney will create a global first for the World Premiere of PRINCE OF PERSIA: SANDS OF TIME by crossing five time zones to host multiple premiere events around the world in keeping with the time twisting themes of the film. The global event will start in Australia before moving to Asia and then onto Europe and Central America with the stars of the film satellite linked in to every event live from London.

The world premiere of PRINCE OF PERSIA: SANDS OF TIME will be the first ever to take place in London’s most exciting entertainment and leisure and shopping destination, Westfield London with the screening at the Vue Westfield, the UK’s number one, newest and most innovative purpose built all digital cinema complex. The event will kick off within Westfield’s Atrium, a unique event space located under a spectacular undulating glass roof, which will tie-in with the breath-taking stunts as featured within the movie.

Audiences in Australia and Asia will experience the movie first, with the cast and filmmakers beamed in to introduce the film. At 6.00pm GMT countries including Mexico, Germany and Italy will all connect to London to simultaneously experience a spectacular live entertainment show including a stunning free-running display. The world premiere and red carpet extravaganza will also be simulcast to twenty cinemas across Britain, for what will be one of the biggest movie events the UK has ever known!'

And I'm seeing Rufus Wainwright tonight - could this day get any better?!

Hello :D

Hi Shelly! It really will be amazing - thanks for commenting :D

Me too, Karen!!

Hi 16:21 :D the World premiere is in the UK on 9 May, the US premiere is at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood on 17 May with jake and everyone attending - plus most of the cast of pirates by the look of it. There is a post on it here, a few days ago with the big poster for it.

Hey TD! No, it means that Jake and the others will be in London and then by satellite they'll all make presentatons to the other theatres around the place linking in.

It also means Jake will be on the JR show on 7 May :D

TD said...

Oh yes! Yes!!
silly me, panicking there!

*wishes there were satellite feeds in the US* or better yet, wish I was in the UK. At least we do get Jonathon Ross. Just don't know when it will air here.

In either case, so exciting! So excited for you, WDW and other UK Gyllenhaalics!

This is HUGE! Jake is truly a Superstar of International proportions.

That sounds fantastic:) I'm gutted now I'm not able to make it over but at least we will get some fantastic clips and pics.

I hope the Rufus concert goers enjoy him tonight!!!

Glad you had a good time seeing Rufus, WDW!

I'm so excited. I can't attend any of the premieres but just knowing there's going to be LOADS of interviews & pics of Jake in the next month has me smiling :-D

WOW!!! No wonder why you are hyperventilating - you must be so excited WDW (and anyone else in the UK that can attend this HUGE event)! Disney sure knows how to do things BIG!! Can't wait for all the great photos, videos, stories, etc. Keep us updated WDW (as if I even need to request that - ha ha)!!

Can't wait to hear more...and glad you enjoyed Rufus!

:-)

Glad you had a good time at Rufus WDW. Can't wait to see him tomorrow night:)

Morning all! A little weary today after a long night - bt a lot of fun and thanks to Ruby and Mr Ruby for their lovely company :)

Hi Stace! I believe JR shows a week later in the US so it will be on.

I'm sorry to hear you can't make it over, Carol :( Enjoy Rufus tomorrow! I like to think of us seeing him the same week :D

Morning Sheba :D It is a very big pull!

Hi there Get Real! I think the LA premiere is going to be pretty big from all accounts as it's also being turned into a Jerry B spectacular. A big gala affair. It's good that PoP is going to involve so many countries :)

Thanks for the link 20:06 :)

Hi Leslie! It really is a great way to get a smile on your face. All these interviews etc coming up!

Morning BBMISwear ;-) I know, the contrast with the other film openings, especially in the UK. There's not been a big Jake premiere here since TDAT - and Brothers just came and went... So Disney really do know how to do Big!

Waves to Carol!

Beautiful, sunny day here :D Have a good one!

I'm so excited!!! I've been to Westfield shopping centre a couple of times last year, really liked it (though I'm not much into shopping malls, but this is quite stylish), but didn't know the Vue cinema there was so state of the art! What a change for the 'usual' Leicester Sq premieres held so far in London...
Disney surely know how to do market their movies!!
Thanks for the post, WDW.
I had a fab time in France with Alex, and everywhere we went there were PoP posters for "Prince of Persia: Les Sables du Temps"... wonder why they only translated in French the second part...

Hugs
Paola

Hi Sheba, I am going from Birmingham. Have been looking at trains and if you pre-book its £5 each way. Only thing is you have to get the train at a certain time so don't know what time it will finish to get a train back! Maybe Disney will tell us what time it will all finish??

Anonymous said...

WOW! This is so exciting!!

I just checked the prices for trains down to london from liverpool and its about £60 return :( Thats too expensive. I would probably pay, but i have no Jake-Loving friends that would pay that much! Eurghh it's so frustrating!!! :(:(:(

I wish i lived in Birmingham! Karen £5.00 is amazing! You must go :P

Everyone must write about their Premiere adventures :) And take LOTS of pictures :D

Jake’s pedigree foundation for becoming an action hero?

First this quote:
¨
From Rotten Tomatoes. About this summer’s movies:

Quote

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley

Directed By: Mike Newell

Opening: May 28, 2010

About The Movie:

Somewhere in the depths of Hollywood's shuttletube system, a memo must have circulated that this year is the year for mythical tentpole epics; not only did we get Clash of the Titans, here comes the adaptation of the fantasy video game series Prince of Persia, with Jake Gyllenhaal manifested by the gods to talk in a British accent and make audiences swoon as Dastan, a prince who must recover the Dagger of Time before a sandstorm consumes the Earth.

If anyone knows how to create a franchise, it's producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who turned a classic, yet ho-hum Disney theme park ride into the Pirates of the Caribbean phenomenon and looks to be aiming for a similar brand of swash and buckle here – complete with a leading man better-known for arty turns, abundant feats of derring-do, and a romance pitched to bring in the females.

But which romancer of Gemma Arterton will win moviegoers’ hearts - Jake or Sam Worthington, who had his shot during Clash?

If the former's sculpted pecs and shirtless swagger (take that, Jacob Black) are any indication, this Summer has a chance of adopting an unlikely new beefcake action hero that we could be seeing again.

Gyllenhaal, L. & L. Westberg

Books addressing the experiences of soldiers of the major combatant nations in the World Wars are important and popular with military historians and buffs alike.

However, never before has anyone had the opportunity to examine the experiences of the soldiers of a neutral nation in the major wars of the first half of the 20th century.

The authors tell the stories of their countrymen who served in the ranks of the Red Army, Waffen SS, U.S. Army, French Foreign Legion and a dozen other armies.
More than 23,000 not so neutral Swedes served in foreign armies between 1914 and 1945, volunteering and fighting across a broad swathe of battlefields, motivated by a wide variety of causes and reasons.

Enter their worlds in the pages of this book, and follow them from the no man's lands of World War I to the hedgerows of Normandy and the frozen steppes and Taiga of the Soviet Union.

How are these two quotes interconnected? It is not that my established military history writing son Lars is a ninth cousin of Jake – and Maggie – although this has some importance.

No, it is the fact that the fates of members of the Gyllenhaal family are described in this book; Jake’s grandfather Hugh Gyllenhaal (1921-1979) was in WWII in Europe.
A son of another Gyllenhaal got a Silver Star posthumous in Vietnam.
And my own older uncle Gunnar fought with the Finns against the communist Soviet Union.

Hey Paola! It is a strange place for a premiere but sounds like a great theatre - and Jake can do some shopping :DD

Let me know, Karen and Sheba, if you want to be put in touch with each other :)

It really is exciting, Silver! I can't wait to hear how everyone gets on! I should get a WDW hat or something so people can spot me!
