Jake Gyllenhaal's promotion for PoP's DVD release, Jake and Barefoot Ted, and LAOD: The chemistry is 'enormous'!

Despite having told sister Maggie that there was nothing at the end of it, I always knew that Jake Gyllenhaal liked rainbows. We know this thanks to Disney who've posted a video from that fabulous golden elephant set to publicise the fast-approaching DVD and Blu Ray release of Prince of Persia (the film with the 'really cute prince'). This appearance on Leo Little's Big Show includes a fine performance by young Amy who gets to utter those five magical words, which we must all utter at some point in our Gyllenhaalic career with - and I'm pronouncing this with a Mike Newell voice as you can tell - GUSTO: 'I love you Jake Gyllenhaal!'

This video serves as a fine reminder of those days when Jake's face had yet to be kidnapped by The Beard. It also promises interesting things from the Blu Ray interactive segments.

Barefoot Ted

Many thanks to runner and writer Jessica who kindly got in touch with me to clear up the mystery of just who the man with no hair was in That Picture from last weekend's epic trail run in Leadville. Jessica knows the people concerned and so was able to tell us that he is Ted 'Barefoot' McDonald from Seattle. Some years ago Ted discovered that, just like the Mexican villagers who inspired Chris McDougall's Born to Run book, he can run for miles, free of pain, without shoes, or just wearing his luna sandals.

It took Ted over 27 hours to finish this epic endurance event of 100 miles and, writing on his blog, he recalls the last few hours of it were spent running and chatting with McDougall: 'We turned the last 3 1/2 hours into a time for catching up...hearing about all the exciting things happening including a possible film adaptation of BTR. Very cool stuff.' In other words, confirmation that the film adaptation is indeed a possibility and not just a rumour. Many thanks again to another runner Brandon Fuller for the picture that is helping to solve the puzzle. And thanks to him for linking back to WDW.

One potential difficulty for me in all this is a) my phobia for feet and b) my passion for Nike. If the movie goes ahead then Jake must do all in his powers to distract me from the feet.

Another runner and blogger has given some more background information: 'Jake Gyllenhaal and another big star that my non-movie-star, non-fanboy head can't identify, and a small crew of others who seemed to be producers and/or directors and movie technician guys showed up and followed the race. And I mean they really followed it. They lived in Leadville for a few days before the race, they didn't sleep much or at all during the 30hr race, and even at night, I ran into them again at Fish Hatchery aid in the middle of the night. Mostly they watched, but I think they helped at times too.'

They didn't seem to be filming any final footage of anything. It seemed to be tons of snippets. I was standing around with a random runner and friends at Twin Lakes. Jake G's star-friend was taking photos of us with a huge camera. It was only later that I noticed he had a small shotgun-mic attached. So he was taking movies and over-heard everything we said!'

Love and Other Drugs - 'This movie is sexxxxxxy'

Film Experience
has posted another early review of Love and Other Drugs from a recent screening. We have had a few of these now and they continue to glow: 'The movie is well above average in the world of romantic comedy, and rest assured, that's what it is. As you could clearly note from the trailer, it has all of the usual romcom trappings and succeeds primarily due to the strength of Jake & Anne's chemistry - which is ENORMOUS and immensely satisfying. I must admit, and then dodge anything you might throw my way, that I'm not a big fan of Rachel Getting Married, or Anne's performance in it. So, given that, I'd have to say that this is her best performance. It's really a perfect role for her, as it's mostly comedic (which is where she excels) with tinges of drama.'

'Jake pulls off the smarmy-but-charming almost George Clooney-esque character incredibly well, and his character's transformation as he becomes more involved with Anne is not necessarily written as well as it could have been, but he's great. And he ultimately sells one of the rather cliché romcom moments far better than anyone had any right to. It's really all about the two of them, so the supporting cast's screen time is quite limited, although Oliver Platt steals every scene he's in. P.S. Jake & Anne spend like half the movie completely naked. This movie is sexxxxxxy.'

Good!

Many thanks again to Jessica, Brandon Fuller, Disney and IHJ for the help and pictures.

OMG I can't wait for LAOD - and it says on IMDB that the premiere will be on 6th january in germany *yaaay* here is hoping it is true and everyone cross your fingers for me that there will be a theatre showing it in english

This movie is Sexy..... Ha! That's a dead giveaway by looking at the cast! :)

Very happy with all the positive things said about LAOD!

Hi Sasha! Oh that girl made me laugh - 'Start the car!!!' How gorgeous does Jake look?!

That's great news about the release date of LAOD in Germany - I know it wasn't good for Brothers. Here's hoping for a string of premieres across the world :) I hope you find an English version - I never understand why places don't show subtitled versions.

Hey Winterbird! Oh yes :D It's great to see the buzz build like this.

Is it bad I was missing the beard in this post?

Cute interview!

Hi everybody!
I like promoting clip with Jake and kids. He looks cute. A girl is sweet and I would love to scream with her : "I love you Jake Gyllenhaal!" :)
I clicked one of the link in this post and I discovered beautiful words Mike Newel said about Jake. I didn't know he was the one to choose Jake as a Dastan. Thank you Mike!
Great pictures from the movie POP. I like that moment when Dastan removes two swords from behind his back bowing down his head. It's so sexy!
So far we hear only good comments about LAOD. That's fantastic!

I want to share with you a great POP interview made by Polish journalist Anna Wendzikowska with Jake Gyllenhaal, in English. After short commercial. It' very funny and too short! Enjoy!

Hi BR! Not bad at all - but very funny :D

Hey Mermon! Thanks for the link - I do wish they would use subtitles and not speak over. But thank you! Oh yes, Mike Newell was the one who put Jake forward - he knew Jake as a youngster. I love that moment too, so much, with the swords, and that smile :)

For all Brits The Good Girl now starting on More 4. After all our talk of it this week, I'm watching :D

BR said...

The Good Girl is my second fave Jake movie (after Brokeback). I think it's genius...I don't know why more people don't rate it.

And it has Jen in it. Yay, Jen!

I used to read the experience blog, until I realized that he seems more a fan than film critic. He has a taste very different of mine.
But I agree that the work of Anne in RGM was one of the best that year. The movie is not good, but the performances are great.

Thank you for bringing this positive comment about laod. Most impressive are the numerous positive comments about the movie.
It makes me very happy.

Last week I saw Dr. Parnassus. Heath and the entire cast are great and they that make the movie good.
I did not like much of the narrative.
The scene of Johnny Depp is a little difficult to watch.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey BR! Ooh I do like it when a Jake film comes on the TV totally unexpectedly :)

Hi Monica! I like the site - he has a real passion for movies and actors. And he does like Jake. I've still not seen Rachel Got Married. It's so great to see all these positive responses to LAOD.It's just wonderful :) I still haven't seen Dr P - I'm thinking that I never will - I'll stick with I'm Not There and The Dark Knight - I love both films.

Hope eevryone's having a good evening!

I spent lovely afternoon with my niece. I watched Donnie Darko with her. She's 14 years old and watched this movie for the first time. it was funny to see a lack of understanding on her face. I felt the same way when it was my first time. She liked the story, but didn't get it. I can remember how I searched for the solution of the Donnie's story puzzle. It was exciting journey. :)
Speaking of Good Girl, which I like quite much. At the beginning of the movie I didn't like the husband. He was so simple with that beer in his hand and Bubba on their sofa everyday. But in the end I saw him as a good man, who supported his wife. I was so sorry for Jake-Holden who served only as a sperm donor and finished his life so soon. He had no chance to really grow up and be happy. And his parents? They were not able to understand and help him. Poor Holden - great Jake! He was so convincing.

Jake just amazes me more and more! And of course, saying he's sexy in LAOD is SUCH an understatement. Can't wait to see it! November should hurry up a bit :D

LadyEkster said...

What a brilliant clip! Sorry Jake, Amy beats you when it comes to cuteness in this. And yes, oh yes, that beardless, perfectly shaped jaw line... *thud*

Good news on the possibilities of Born To Run! And they're naked for HALF of LAOD? Now I know for certain that I'm gonna pursue my plan of renting an entire cinema room. Scream and drool away... *grin*

On a side note: I finally went to see Inception tonight. Amazing! Makes me look forward to Source Code even more. :)

thanks, WDW, for more info on what happened in Leadville. So apparently there was some serious scoping out of this race and the possible movie that will be made from the book.

And that Jake apparently will be involved with this project (we can only hope)

I hope we hear something soon. Thanks for more info about POP DVD

so I have to endure 2 hours of naked JAKE! (THUD!)

I don't know if I can handle that!

I guess I'll have to endure the torture somehow.

The happenings at Leadville sound really positive. Fingers crossed this will turn into a new project.

I can't wait for LAOD. I don't know if I can handle naked Jake for two hours but I am most willing to try:)

Hope all who are lucky to have a bank holiday this weekend enjoy and the sun shines.

Morning everyone!

Hey Mermon, that's great that you saw Donnie with your niece - always good to spread Jake around the family like that. And that is one of the films you can watch many times over the years - I'm so glad Jake made it. Poor Holden. I remember last time I watched it I went away and read Catcher again, so glad I did.

Me too, Georgie! Although a bit longer to wait here unfortunately :)

Morning Lady Ekster :D Half the film, eh? I remember what that opening bedroom scene in Rendition did to me! Half a film...

Yeay! Glad you liked Inception! I loved it, I really want to see it again on the big screen before it goes.

My pleasure, Sweetpea! It'll be tough but we're just gonna have to manage :D

Thanks Carol! And I hope you have a wonderful weekend *)

And greetings and welcome to the new commentors on the earlier posts too!

Have a great day everyone - I'm off to a food and drink festival and it's a beautiful sunny day :D There could be champagne...

WDW said: "I remember what that opening bedroom scene in Rendition did to me!"
Hi everyone! It was the same with me! I was rewinding this scene few times before I could go forward with the movie. It wasn't much in that scene, it was short, but so hot!

Have a good weekend everybody!

Oh my word, yes. Somehow every time I watch Rendition my remote control goes into rewind mode after that scene... No idea why. *grin*

Have a nice weekend everybody! Judging by the amounts of rain over here, you are all in for a dry and sunny weekend. ;-)

Hi, everyone!

Supermarathons aren't for everybody, but they might be fun to watch. If Jake is filming bits of it, could he be making a documentary?

I saw "The Switch" the other day, and was amazed by how good Jason Bateman was in those scenes with the little boy(s).

I know Pop is a Disney film but it was rated PG-13, a lot of parents avoided the film because of that.

The whole exchange between Jake and that girl is creepy, she has to e about 12? Jake is almost and her sqeeling over him ain't cute.

I don't know any 12 year old girl squeeling over a grown man, she is more a Justin Bieber fan I bet.

More stupid marketing for Pop via Disney, 12 year old girls ain't going to buy the DVD, they should at least pitch the DVD to the gamers.

IMO Jake looked embarrassed in theat video and he should be.

I loved the Disney video - very entertaining! I feel like that little girl some days - ha ha!

Great additional news about BTR - it sounds like they are doing a lot of prep so let's just hope we hear more soon. Just think of all those 'sweaty Jake' scenes we'll get to see if Jake is in it!

Crazy/Fun New England weekend for me...sounds like yours is too WDW. I haven't had much on line time but it was good to catch up here!

P.S. Remember last year at this time being on/rushing off Martha's Vineyard and all the Obama signs? It's been all over the news again this week - they were there again. Memories - *sigh*

Until next time... :-)

I'm glad Mike chose Jake for PoP too - I'm counting down the days until it's out on DVD!

Well this is it for me for a week - everyone take care of Jake for me and don't get up to too much without me!! (hope I don't miss toooo much)

WDW - hope the festival was good.

Hi WDW (and greetings to BBMISwear if you're still about)

I've just been back and read the comments on the last post properly. Sorry I did not realise you did not like the 'Shame' video when I commented. I must say I'm surprised, considering how upbeat you usually are, that you did not enjoy it a little. I thought it could have been much much worse - much more like a 'Carry On' movie! but then everything RW does is camp so I guess that would be appropriate!

Anyway, moving on, I also have the image of Jake's tongue in my mind since the trailer. I actually found whoever's comments about his kissing Anne in BBM much more upsetting for some reasonand I was so relieved mermon put them in context! phew.

There seems to be no mention at all of a comment about big pharmacutical companies and the way they operate coming out re: LAOD yet. I was hoping there might be something particularly cos of Heath and prescription drugs etc. I understood the book had much to say on the subject but perhaps it hasn't made it into the film. If so, I'm a little disappointed as in my little fantasy world (!) I imagined Jake and Anne took the roles partly for that reason.

Oh well!
Have a good night
TD

PS Jake didn't make it into the finals for the 2010 shirtless competition on PoPsugar, he lost to Kellan Lutz 67% / 33% !!!!!
Oh well he made it into the final 4 so some people do appreciate what a fine specimen he is....

As we've only seen just seconds of a whole movie i'm sure there will be something about the Pharm. Companies and how they worked.
People who are seeing it are caught up in the romantic-comedy-drama part of it.
Her Parkinsons is a strong part of the story. Also the early days of selling Viagra is also a part of it.
I don't think that is left out.
As there hasn't been a review that delves in to all aspects of the movie then we will be seeing that eventually.
Main thing for many in their getting-to-see-a-preview comments is what Jake and Anne are like together.
Many probaly aren't caught up in the Pharm. part of it so not a lot of talk about it.
We'll all know in Nov.

Hi everyone - I'm back! A long and fabulous day in the sun (I'm an expert on champagne now...). Many thanks to Ruby and Mr Ruby for their company :D Good to see you all!

Hi Mermon :D

Hey Lady Ekster - thanks for hanging on to the rain so that we can have all this sun!

He could, Paul - that's a really interesting thought. I've been assuming drama but that may not be the case - Jake would be perfect to head a documentary on this :)

Hi 18:12 - I don't think it's supposed to be taken that seriously.

Thanks, Claire, and have a great week! I've not taken that shirtless contest at all seriously. I've never even heard of one of them. But I suppose it's good publicity.

No worries, TD :) Sometimes I surprise myself how much I take against some things - can't help myself! It's difficult to say from two trailers what the attitude towards Pharma will be - it'll be interesting to see.

Hi KC :) Yep, not surprisingly much (if not all) of the focus has been on Jake and Anne. Unfortunately, it's gonna be a lot longer than November before some of us know - sigh...

Watching Arcade Fire at Reading!! It's so weird knowing this is happening live just down the road from me glad it stopped raining and the sun is out for the weekend :)

Wow, I' not the owner of the is blog but boy you sound so bitter toward Jake, Disney and the 12 year old. I remember being a 12 year old girl and totally in love with older men and I wasn't thinking about their age or sex with them. He may be her first celebrity crush, we all had them. I've yet to figure why so call Jake fans want POP to fail? Jake wanted to do this role, he's said it himself numerous times. To disrespect his choices as an actor is fine but stop disrespecting him and his fans especially 12 year olds. I apologize WDW for my rant but Geez, I don't like rude people and the internet is no excuse otherwise.

mermon said...

Good morning everybody!
I like POP very much. It's important Jake's movie for me. It shows how talented he is, how he's able to sacrifice - growing hair(he looked fabulous), parcour training, British accent learning. By the way, tell me - you fans from UK, how does he sound for you as a Dastan. I could listen to him all the time, his British accent is sooo... :) When he says "I'm on my way" at the beginning - is so funny and hot. He was also speaking with a deeper voice. He was practising it talking to his voice teacher from other side of the pool.:)
I'm looking forward for POP part II. So lets wish them luck in selling as much DVD as possible.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Jake Fan :) I certainly had my 12-year old crushes and I'll never forget the experience of going to a Duran Duran concert! OMG, plenty of youngsters there adoring their idols. So yes, it's all about fun and it's all part of growing up. And who wouldn't fall for Prince Dastan?

Hi Mermon! Jake does such a good job with the accent. It was completely believable and unbelievably hot! I was listening pretty carefully and I think he nailed it.

Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a good Sunday - I'm off to see Scott Pilgrim :D

I rem. being 12 and going to movies and of course liked "the kids" in them but there were actors i thought were pretty cool who were probably in their 30's.
I certainly know some girls in their early teens who are fans of Johnny Depp.
It's just natural for them to be excited about someone and they like to scream..part of growing up.
Of course a lot are going to have that celebrity crush on guys in their own age group - "tweens" and teens, but there are always going to be some who like older singers and actors.
I know kids who love the Beatles.
A friend had a 9 year old boy who was a big Elvis fan.
And it works the other way around too.
People like who they like and age just doesn't play into it.

As for Jake when he takes a project it's because he was interested in it and wanted to do it. Haven't heard him say, as some have, I took it for the money or it was "just a movie to do".
KC

Anonymous said...

And too..was just thinking the person doesn't have to be an actor or singer. It can be the cutest boy in school or in a Class and girls get together and get all giggly about him.
Then there are crushes on teachers.

mermon said...

I agree. I think, most of teenagers has a crush on someone from music or movie stars. It doesn't have anything to do with sex. It's nothing wrong with it. I believe that Prince Dastan, charming, joyful, attractive, smart, agile and skillful may be appealing to young people. A kind of idol. And because Jake is as charming as Dastan.... :)

Anonymous said...

But i think it does have to do with the early feelings that are involved with sexuality. There's a certain age it's not involved with but when you start moving toward your teens then you may not quite know what those feelings are but it allows you to scream at singers, etc..
I go way back and i rem. a girl reading an article on Elvis that said he was sexy..and she thought that was awful to write that.
I thought it was a compliment.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi everyone! Been catching up :D I don't have much to add but my own penny's worth is that crushes are perfectly natural, and you can get them at any and all ages, and we do.

Serene Hill said...

Hey WDW, thanks for all this post bout our beloved Jake..
I want to ask if there is any possibility that a country release it's own DVD of PoP, cause I was joking to my sis to buy me a PoP DVD and she really got it, I'm really confused right now, isn't the DVD gonna be release on September 14th in USA?so how could it be possible?
I haven't got my hand on the DVD thought, so I don't know if it is original or not.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Serene! Thanks for commenting. Unfortunately, that will be a pirate DVD, there are plenty about. But the real one will be out soon! I would always encourage everyone to buy the real version as that will all help to get sequels made and will put money in the pockets of those who deserve it - ie, Jake!
