Jake Gyllenhaal back in LA without the Face Pet!

We knew the day would come. We knew we just had to be strong, to be patient... Jake Gyllenhaal flew back into LA yesterday and he forgot his Face Pet. Yes, Sasquatch is no more. No longer will small children hide in their mother's skirts at the sight of Big Foot roaming the restaurants of NYC. Suddenly, a remake of Big Foot and the Hendersons seems less likely.

But, while we celebrate the re-emergence of one of the finest chins and set of lips this side of Jupiter's moons, let us take a moment to pause and reflect on the Bear, which, just a couple of days ago, was having the time of its life, little realising that it was doomed. However, the shadow that remains hints that its time may well come again.

Many thanks to IHJ for the pictures.

I just posted a review of Despicable Me at MovieBrit - very funny film.

Good morning, WDW!
Ooooh my. The sight of that chin without the face pet makes me all tingly :D
Nice to see all of Jake's glory again! :D

Sunday morning SQUEEE!
Much better, so much better. Yes!
Forgot to say hi? Hi WDW and all.
So it wasn't for a role as we thought, he felt just like growing it. ;o)

Morning Aoife! Me too :D

Hi Eureka - posting at the same time :D Yep, so maybe it's the opposite and Jake's back in LA ready to get down to work - maybe the Medical Center can't manage without him any longer :D

Such wonderful photos! Not only the Face Pet is gone, but he's smiley, playful and sexy again!

It's early, early morning here and I'm going to bed. Been watching a Jakey film, after some Jakey clips... and now this! Guess who I'll be dreaming of. ;-)

Thanks for the heads up. The pics at IHJ are gorgeous!

Have a nice Sunday, Gyllenhaalics. I'll talk to you again later. xo

Me again!
Just wondering, does anyone know is there any fact to the Jake/Rachel Bilson rumours that have been circulating? I haven't heard them in a while, but even so... -.-

Darling Bluebell said...

SQUEE indeed!! What a lovely sight. Thank you Jake!

I bet he's not happy with the paps' welcome at the airport... Back home, back to the camera lenses.
It makes me all the more curious to exactly why he spent all these weeks in New York. If it was for a future project I hope we will find out soon. If it was just for personal reasons than I hope he's had a great time and found the peace and quiet he was looking for.

I feel like saying a solemn goodbye to The Bear. Thank you, hairy monster, for all the hysterical, hilarious moments you have given us these past few weeks. The majority of us will not miss you, but we have you to thank for this special Era in Gyllendom. And, by all that is hairy, don't worry that we will ever forget you; that's impossible.

As he has spent months before in New York (Martha's Vinyard which he was at also) its not unusual for him to be there during the summer.
As there were some "Official" things for him to be at he had to be in NY for those.

And soon there will be the publicity for LAOD so back to L.A.for that and have no doubt there will be talks for a new project. It might be something we already know about or something that we won't know about.
(Sounds like the Bigelow project is a bit down the road).

Hi! And I started to like the trimmed beard. He was very cute, like teddy bear.
I wonder what's happened that he shaved it. Some new plans, preparations for LAOD promotion? Getting tired of beard? It looks like he's ready for something knew.
Probably it was more convenient for him to wander around NYC with his beard. A kind of camouflage.
I bet that he knew he would surprise us with new look.

Get Real said...

Wow, Jake pretty much shaved off the beard! I know all the anti beard folks are happy, lol. I was getting used to it and kind of digging it. But of course that face is a thing of true beauty! And this look will be great for LAOD promotion!

Aoife, I think Jake was smiley and playful self with the kids at the charity. He seems to get a look on his face in posed pics, same with Maggie, when he doesn't smile that it seems he is sad or bored. I just think it is a facial expression and doesn't mean he is unhappy. :)

Happy to see him and his face though!! :D

WDW, I hope you are fully recovered! XOXO

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

He's upset.

KC, the filming of the movie of Bigelow will begin between December and January. I think most likely to begin in January.
Filming will take place in Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Last month she was here in Brazil.

It has everything to be a great movie.

*thud* all I can say/do ...

have a nice sunday everyone!

P.S. (objectificationalarm) everytime Jake looks extra hot I can't type here or use more complicated words ... it has to be short easy sentences then ROFL

yay! (me dancing around the room)

well it was only a matter of time before the beast was no more! (I'm sure it will resurface at some point)

As we know the clean shaven look doesn't stick around on Jake, he is they type of man with that 5 o'clock shadow. But i don't mind the fuzz. so long as I can see his face. That mole above his upper lip, it makes a rare appearance. I know I'll be able to see it in LAOD.

I wonder how Atticus flies? I'm sure he must have had his doggie with him all this time.

thanks WDW this is good news indeed.

Sunday morning squee indeed!Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! And he still has the great hair. Welcome back sexy Jacob! Maybe he had to shave The Bear because the airline would have charged him extra for it, it was so huge at one point. :DDD

He's been in NYC for a few weeks and look how small luggage he has.

I don't think he has a dog with him. Not even one picture of Atticus and Jake. No sign of dog at the airport.
His dog surely missed him. And during POP making Jake was so many months away. Tough life of hard working actor's dog.

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

The hair and the "scruff" look fabulous...but I still have this horrible feeling that these are OLD photos and the face pet is still alive and well! I've been fooled before!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hello everyone! Been out seeing Despicable Me :D Great to see you - thanks for all the comments!

I hope the dreams lived up to their promise, Alejandra :)

Hi Aoife :) All these rumours are ridiculous and not worth the energy spent on thinking about them IMO.

Hey Lady Ekster! I should think Jake's had a great time in NYC and MV this summer playing an active role in his nieces's life. I bet it was wonderful for both of them, although he'd have to have put up with her telling him to get rid of the scary Face Pet...

Hi KC! I'm really looking forward to both the LAOD publicity and to new project news - I really hope we hear something soon. Jake usually kicks into gear about this time.

Hey Mermon! I do agree that the beard is a great form of camouflage and potection - as well as receptor for food.

Hi there Get Real! Thanks, I'm fighting fit today :D I love the change of look here. And yes you can't tell anything from a few pics.

Hi Monica - I totally disagree that anyone can presume to know for sure someone else's mood from a few pictures walking out of an airport into a car. I may as well say that he's got indigestion from eating all those pickled onions on the flight.

I know we go through this everytime there are pap pics and as always I say that this is a minute or two out of a day, out of a week, out of a month. And we have no idea. I'm sure it's a pain having to walk through paps but LAX is one place they'd be expected and Jake is a professional. One thing I do know is that it's a much more pleasurable experience flying as a movie star than it is for any of us.

Hi Sasha! I totally understand :D

I'm sure it will resurface, Sweetpea :)

Hi Olympia! Very true! And maybe the beard would have demanded its own baggage allowance...

I would have thought that Jake keeps a lot of belongings in NYC, Mermon.

Oh no, Gyllenhaalisgr8! Maybe this is all a dream...

Darling Bluebell said...

but I still have this horrible feeling that these are OLD photos and the face pet is still alive and well!
I hope not. :( That would make my little goodbye speech worthless and my jumping up and down this afternoon quite ridiculous. ;-)

I may as well say that he's got indigestion from eating all those pickled onions on the flight.
Haha! Remembering the painful faces during the Jonathan Ross interview that might very well be the reason. ;-) But you're absolutely right. People sometimes ask me "Are you angry?" when I'm just concentrated or lazy. Apparently my face looks like that in default mode... can't help it.

Claire said...

what a great way to end the weekend!!! Thanks WDW for letting us know the beard has just about gone - just as I was becoming used to the trimmed version too.

Hope everyone's having a great Sunday.

Hi Lady Ekster! I get that all the time too. I was at a meeting on Thursday when my bad cold was taking cold and the chair kept explaining things slowly for me and I had to explain that it was my cold that what was making me look blank, not my lack of brain :D

Hi Claire! I know, we have to get used to the absolutely gorgeous shadow now :D Sigh.... until it begins to grow and grow again.

Anonymous said...

THANK YOU LORD!!

Aoife said...

thanks, WDW. That makes me feel better :) Rachel and Jake would NOT do.

Sasha said...

It is the same with me about the "default face" ... everyone things I'm angry or sad - but ya know I can't always walk around smiling sunshine ... it takes muscular work to smile and I'm lazy ;)

oy poor WDW ... you go tell your boss *lol* and I know about that face too, I have that when someone bores me and I TRY VERY HARD to listen but my mind wanders anywhere away from the boredom (or I'm just plain blank tired)

Monica said...

I was referring that he is upset because of the paparazzi.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Lena and Aoife!

I know that feeling, Sasha :D

Hi Monica :D Jake doesn't look too bothered by them to me, just walking through them and ignoring them. I really admire how he can do that!

I've just done a post at MB on Despicable Me which is just out in the UK and is very funny :D

Alejandra said...

Well, it turns out I dreamed of you, WDW! I can't be sure if it was a blog post, or if I was suddenly able to read your thoughts -as blog posts! Sounds insane, I know. But it was a good dream. :-)

Ooh Alejandra! That's quite an honour! But I'm sorry I wasn't Jake :D I'll try harder next time... ;-)

It is a glorious day for all Gyllenhaalics around the world. and with good timing, Jake! I was starting to miss your chin :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Georgie!

Alejandra said...

It was my pleasure, WDW. What I was able to read from you in my dreams was Jake related and you should know I really like your views on him. That's the main reason why I comment here. To show you my appreciation for both your work gathering all this info and the respect and love you have for Jake.

In the dream, I was quite desperate to contact you after reading what I read. But I woke up too soon. Smiling, tho. :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Wow - Alejandra - you have absolutely made my day with that wonderful comment! I am so glad you feel like that about how Jake is loved and respected here - thank you! I'm smiling :)

lemniscate said...

Hi WDW and y'all,

I second that Alejandra. It's really the only reason I visit here. There is a lot of disgusting and ridiculous Jake nonsense out there. At least here at WDW, you know he's respected and you're in good company. WDW Rocks!
Glad you're feeling better babe.
(Must have been your "WDW Veggie Saturday Special" ;-)

But, elas... to the matter of the day. Has he succumbed to the pressure of the powers that be to terminate the cuddly face pet? I am truly in mourning... This photo, with him smiling during the opening of the Edible Schoolyard in NYC, is my absolute favourite Jake Gyllenhaal pic to date. Truest, purest, realest, sweetest, bestest Jake ever! I'm so going to miss him as he suits up again and launches into his work persona and movie star duties...

Hm... and as for the idea that you cannot tell someone's mood from a photograph. Well,... yes and no.
A big chunk of my job involves observing people while they are going about their daily business or trying to complete a specific task, in order to detect their comfort levels and possible obstacles. I try to determine whether they are relaxed, comfortable, annoyed, puzzled, overwhelmed, distracted... etc, by paying close attention to body language, tone of voice and eye focus.
I agree that a photograph is indeed only a split second snapshot in time, but to the trained eye or a naturally skilled observer, even that can hold a wealth of information about how that person was feeling at that particular moment. Of course, it should never be taken out of context. I do agree with Monica in this case though. He was clearly annoyed (and tired) when those photos were taken, which is only to be expected, considering the situation.
I think I've also been able to detect when Jake is lying. He has a clear tell. Actually, his whole body screams: "Ok, I'm lying, I'm lying, alright!". He should so never play poker. ;-) And yeah, he's an actor... I know. But he's also a very human.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Lemniscate! Hope you've had a good weekend - I'm feeling so much better, thanks!

I'll be doing another post tomorrow about that Edible Schoolyard event which will make you love him even more, seriously. I've been chatting with someone who was there.

I do agree with you and Monica that Jake was p'd off about walking out of LAX to paps. BUT I also think he's more than able to deal with it and it's a moment out of the day. We all do things everyday that are hard, unpleasant but we work through them professionally and I admire Jake for how he deals with paps. These were just a few moments.

Jake is very human, so he'll hate the pap attention, but he's a professional in the public eye and he knows what to do for those few moments. He's strong. For all these reasons I love him the more.

I agree than an instant in time can yield a whole load of information about someone caught in a photograph. But I also believe that it doesn't have much to tell us about who that person is as a whole. And a two-minute period does not tell us about the rest of Jake's day.

Interesting :D And, ultimately, Jake stays private, with these little glimpses for us.

mermon said...

Hi!
I'm glad WDW that you are feeling better. At last!
I can't wait your next post! I wonder what this person can tell from personal contact. You know the right people in the right places :)

Lemniscate - it seems you have very interesting job.
I feel like I am an opened book. Anyone can tell if I'm happy, sad or upset. I can't hide my feelings. But even though people sometimes are wrong about my feelings. When I don't smile (usually I smile a lot) because I am tired or focus on something they ask me right away if I am upset.
Of course not everyone is so talented or trained like you.

About Jake at the airport. As I know paps behaviour they scream the name to attracts attention.
Jake' lips were zipped, no smile - saying- "stay away from me!" Polite but strict. He's grown up, mature, knows how to keep people at the distance, if he wants. Smile is inviting, firmed lips - push away. Nobody is harmed, pictures are taken, we are pleased and Jake is finally at home.
When promotion time will come he will be all ready for his fans and paps with a lot of smiles.

lemniscate said...

Hey WDW and mermon,

Totally agree with both of you! ;-)
And yeah, I'm a lucky chicky-pooh. I have a very interesting, fantastic job - I design experiences. Eh... I guess you still don't know what I do exactly. (I so need to work on my elevator pitch.)

Totally agree, a photograph is just a moment in a day. A split second, a snapshot, so any impression of someone's mood based on one photograph, can only be related to that particular moment and that particular context. However (not to get too technical) if you catch a glimpse of - the same person, doing the same thing, in the same situation, a number of times - you can start to detect clusters or patterns of behavior. Now THAT is when it really gets interesting. ;-)

And I couldn't agree more... Jake is such a well-behaved, true professional.

Oh WDW, I can't wait for your next post. ;-)

Coffee break over. Back to work I go.

Jkae has a specific type of sense of humor. It's kind of along the lines of George Clooney in he can kid about things that if they were written down and read someone might not know it was kidding. But when you see him say something you know it.
Tho i think sometimes people take seriously things he says when he is - just kidding.
In other words, I know what I just said, ha.

G'day Folks,

Just got back from my lunch break and had a good laugh (even though I am still in mourning about the loss of one truly adorable face pet).

Came across these cute little books:

"Beards - A Spotter's Guide" by Cara Frost-Sharratt
Hilarious! Even indicates "pulling power".
http://berkelouw.com.au/catalogue/books/9781846013591/beards-a-spotter-s-guide
The image on the front is the full monty beard style called the Garibaldi and is described as - wait for it: "looks like a hippy type, or a gardener with hygiene issues..."
Eh, hygiene issues? (WDW, we need smelly-vision... or maybe not. What am I saying, the beard is gone, GONE! I'm clearly still in denial. Will be wearing black until the face pet is resurrected.)

Hopefully all is well with Atticus,... and if the poor pooch really had to endure such a long period without his person, he really deserves one of these:
"Pupcakes - 35 Delicious and Healthy Bakes for Dogs", by Stephanie Mehanna
The photo on the cover is so adorable! *mwua*
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pupcakes-Delicious-Healthy-Bakes-Dogs/dp/0600616576/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281565808&sr=8-1

Back to work again... Uh.

Good Morning everyone ... I'm just having the worlds unhealhtiest breakfast - but I have such a headache I cant be arsed to do something properly.

@lemniscate haha that is so funny - I catched him lying the on or other time too. (I have been to courses and read so many books about human communication and body language and micro expressions etc) But in my book he has the right to lie anytime anyway - sometimes the Questions asked are to intimate.

@WDW Happy you feel better *yay*

Talking about the bear(d): I learnt from this test Jake put upon me that I can keep up with facial hair - it's okay ... but really something that gets me all the time and takes away a piece of the sexyness are these unshaven armpits ... I can't get used to it.

Talking about the picture and "reading" them: Well as lemniscate said you can see piece of what is going on - but only in that very moment and situation ... there is no such thing as a "big picture" ;)
And It's like some of us here said: We have that "default face" where others do mistake us and our feelings at that moment too. So don't get all mad/sad when he is not all smiles in a picture. Probably - like WDW said - he is just working his way thru the screaming paps

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! Back at work and catching up - they're actually making me work *sobs*

Thanks for such interesting comments Lemniscate, KC, Mermon and Sasha :) Oh yes, kidding Jake is quite a delight to observe. Sounds like an interesting, fun job, Lemniscate! I love finding out more about everyone here.

I want to chat but I can't... :( The pulling power of the beard - like that...

Have a good Monday everyone!

When I was reading the title of today post this morning(my time zone morning), I was gaping at my mobile, and keep reading it over and over again to make sure that I read it right, haha... And then when I saw the pics, I could hardly keep my mouth shut, fortunately my mom was not there with me, or she would think I'm Crazy, well, yes, somehow I'm crazy for Jake..:p
Wonderful pics WDW, I love his smile in the third pic. I hope there will be more pics coming.
On the previous post, I like how Jake participated in social activities, and how he interact with the kids, all cute and smiley.
Thanks for the good news WDW!!!

Hi WDW, and everyone!

@ gyllenhaalisgr8, wow, I've just watched your glorious 36th. My laptop screen is smoking hot! not just the screen.. but, well...errr, you know. ;o)

And beautiful photo, I like him better that way too. I want you to know I'm collecting your pic art. Thanks!

Thanks, Eureka...I love to dress up plain photos (though Jake is hardly plain!) to make them more...personalized, especially for true Jake fans!

Cazajuguetes said...

@ gyllenhaalisgr8, and thanks for having Facebook open, as I'm not a registered user. What picture software do you use? I'd like that to use for my own home pictures.

mermon said...

gyllenhaalisgr8 - your picture and film are sweet. I watch your pieces of art and like them :)

Sasha - "something that gets me all the time and takes away a piece of the sexyness are these unshaven armpits ... I can't get used to it."
Hm, that's very interesting.
Polish women started to shave in those places many years after American women. I think in USA you had commercials on TV since long time ago, we have them since around 1990. And companies started to show ladies shaving armpits, legs...to sell their products and women started to feel ashamed of those hair. Exactly the same happened in Poland when democracy came with stores full of products waiting to be sold. And right commercials on TV. Old women still don't shave, but all the others of course - do.
But it absolutely different story with men. Some do it, the others don't. Some shave even chest hair, some don't. I personally don't like shaven men in those places and I'm happy Jake doesn't do that :) For me it would be metro-sexuality.

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

Eureka, I use Arcsoft PhotoStudio. It is not common, but it came with a camera I once bought and I liked the program, so I keep purchasing the new versions. I think it's all what you are used to and what you have good experiences with. And of course I keep my Jake group public, or what would be the point, LOL?! I love to promote the Gylls!!

Sasha said...

@gyllenhaalisgr8 that is a good software (but really not a commoner) I used to use it too. I can really recommend it to anyone.

Sasha said...

@mermon to me it's just a hygiene-thing (not saying Jake doesnt have a good hygiene) I never met any guy with unshaven armpits that didnt start to smell during the day ... and so I combine smell and unshaven armpits - can't help myself therewith.

And personally I like my body without hair. I started getting rid of any body hair at a very young age ... (oh and I'm from germany :D ) I don't think it had anything to do with commercials but with my OCD ... but you never know

mermon said...

Sasha - I think we are a generation of women for whom shaving it's just necessary. I was writing about the beginning of it, probably started by cosmetics companies. But I may be wrong of course. In my childhood shaving was absolutely only for men. Probably I'm just much older than you. We didn't have even special products for ladies. Well, maybe they had enough. I knew then some women with really big hair problems. So maybe that how it started.
I hope Jake smells wonderful. With or without ..... Oh my God! What we are talking about :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

My pleasure, Serene Hill :D

I love the sound of your dog, Hui!
