Jake Gyllenhaal's back in LA, a video tribute to the troops and a WDW Pisan Interlude

I'm back! And it's not just me who's had the wandering bug this week. As I was flying back from Italy, Jake Gyllenhaal was also in the air, but he was flying back from NYC to LAX and, by the look of it, meteorologically speaking, it was a wise and sunny decision. Many thanks to IHJ for photos of Jake arriving at the airport - still not having untucked his trousers from his shoes - and then leaving Murakami Sushi in Hollywood.

Jake has also given the Face Pet its first official appearance in a video Tribute to the Troops, a timely reminder that not everyone is able to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones.

It is great to see Jake in a public role again.

WDW Italian Interlude Part 1!

We had a wonderful trip to Italy, not least because of chianti, Michelangelo, beautiful architecture (leaning or otherwise) and great rivers with bridges to match. It didn't hurt that it was a good 10 degrees centigrade warmer there too. It would obviously be hugely amiss if I didn't throw a few photos your way although not wanting to overdo it, I thought I'd be geographical about it and start with some Pisa. Having said that, though, here is me with one of Florence's most famous and shiny residents.

It's a miracle I have photos of the Leaning Tower - my camera has a rather annoying habit of autocorrecting Towers that Lean...

You'll be 'glad' to hear that there are more to come! Thanks to Mr WDW for a couple of the pics...

[Updated] Despite (or because of) the End of the World threat, Jake Gyllenhaal karates and flies out of LAX

I wasn't going to do a post tonight due to being out late in London but I've since learned that the world is predicted to end tomorrow - by one person anyway - and so I thought I'd better get one out while I can. I wouldn't want the world to end when I'm not up to date with WDW.

Jake Gyllenhaal may have some concerns about this imminent catastrophe because he's taking to the skies. Today, Jake was seen at LAX.

Earlier in the day, Jake was back engaging in karate with the barefooted one. This karate is obviously good for Jake, just look at that smile on his face. The world's about to end and Jake can still find something to smile about! I've always found optimism in the face of annihilation a very attractive quality.

See you tomorrow.... I hope.

And finally...

I saw X-Men: First Class on Friday and I'm very lucky that I was one of the very few who was asked to publish their opinion ahead of 25 May when the embargo for reviews lifts. You can read my initial view here at Blogomatic3000.

Many thanks to IHJ for the pics!

Summer's end - Jake Gyllenhaal back in LA and Anne Hathaway signs up to David O Russell's latest

Summer is over... Jake Gyllenhaal has left Sydney and is back Up Over in Los Angeles, bringing with him what looks like a little bit of sunshine bloom on his face. He's lucky, the only shine on my face is due to ice damage. Here is Sydney airport.

And about 10 minutes later due to that nifty shifting dateline, Jake was back in LA where he had to walk through some highly considered and insightful questioning from the paps.

There is another slightly annoying video here but it does include a Gyllenhug. However, if your blood pressure is sensitive you might want to give it a miss. But you wouldn't want to miss this hug from the premiere afterparty.

And finally...

Who should have signed on to David O Russell's new movie but Anne Hathaway? I'm sure Jake will have had plenty to say about that over the floating lunch Down Under.

And even more finally...

Let Josh Gad have the final word.

I've put a review of The Next Three Days up over at MovieBrit.

Pictures with thanks from IHJ.

Jake Gyllenhaal makes an entrance as a big week for Love and Other Drugs beckons

Jake Gyllenhaal flew back into LAX yesterday and demonstrated yet again his considerable skills as a multi-tasker. This time Jake combines looking hot with chatting and smiling on the phone (no doubt booking a restaurant for that evening) while getting someone else to pull his luggage. With the open button, the coordinated shirt and jeans, the cool sunglasses, the big smile, the perfect length of shadow, this arrival was quite an entrance. Jake looks like he's raring to get the Love and Other Drugs publicity train out of the station.

With press lined up for later in the week and Love and Other Drugs opening the AFI Fest on 4 November, it's going to be quite a week. And, if you're rolling in it, you can bid for tickets to the event here.

Thanks to IHJ for the pics, there are more there!

Jake Gyllenhaal back in LA without the Face Pet!

We knew the day would come. We knew we just had to be strong, to be patient... Jake Gyllenhaal flew back into LA yesterday and he forgot his Face Pet. Yes, Sasquatch is no more. No longer will small children hide in their mother's skirts at the sight of Big Foot roaming the restaurants of NYC. Suddenly, a remake of Big Foot and the Hendersons seems less likely.

But, while we celebrate the re-emergence of one of the finest chins and set of lips this side of Jupiter's moons, let us take a moment to pause and reflect on the Bear, which, just a couple of days ago, was having the time of its life, little realising that it was doomed. However, the shadow that remains hints that its time may well come again.

Many thanks to IHJ for the pictures.

I just posted a review of Despicable Me at MovieBrit - very funny film.

[Updated] Jake at Friday's Buffalo Club party - Who needs a Globe when you have an Obelisk?

Although one of the few movie-related blogs that will not be livestreaming the Golden Globes tonight, I don't want anyone to think there's not a dresscode here today. Except for Jake Gyllenhaal who can wear as much or as little as he likes. So, while you get out that party mascara for extra pointy lashes and wedge some notes and a buspass into your shoe, here's a reminder of what we won't be seeing this evening, live from the Beverly Hilton (home of the very fine Friday seafood buffet).

Jake Gyllenhaal did not get a nomination for Brothers. However, Tobey Maguire is up for an award - maybe the panel muddled them up? And so is U2. Here's hoping that success comes their way, if only to prevent the Avatar song 'I See You' from winning. Maggie and Peter Sarsgaard have also not been nominated despite, as with Jake, having given critically-acclaimed performances in 2009. But best of luck to Carey Mulligan who is up there alongside two other British actresses, Emily Blunt and Helen I'm-Running-Out-Of-Dresses Mirren. Here's a flashback to 2009 when Jake drew the short straw of presenting during the comfort break.

Maggie, Peter and Ramona arrived back at LAX this weekend amid twitter sightings of Jake buying cookware at Surfas. Time to try out a new recipe on the family? Maggie did attend the BAFTA tea party yesterday and there's an amusing account from the function here.

From the sound of it, people have been doing their hair and picking suits and dresses for the last 11 months. But not Maggie: 'Former Globe contender Maggie Gyllenhaal decided only recently to go to the Globes, in part to show support for her "Crazy Heart" costar Jeff Bridges, who is nominated for best Actor in a drama. "When I've been nominated, you get like 20 dresses and you try them all on and you do the whole thing," Gyllenhaal said. "I came out here actually for work, and only decided last minute, actually, to go to the Globes. And I tried on one dress and that's the dress I'm wearing."' I'm imagining a mealtime Gyllenhaal debate over the relative merits of Tobey Maguire and Jeff Bridges for Best Actor, with Peter in the middle saying 'It should have been me!'

All this talk of awards, reminds me of two of my favourite quotes from Jake, which come from when he was given a New Power Award by Premiere back in 2004. Fashion Wire Daily reported: '“I know you guys came to see me tonight, not Tom Cruise,” kidded Gyllenhaal, whom presenter Mark Ruffalo (news) crowned “the new punk rock movie star,” “This award means a lot to me because my girlfriend and my sister already have one. But it really does look like a penis. Oops, sorry ‘Premiere.’” At the afterparty, Jake elaborated: ''"This award looks like a penis," remarked Jake Gyllenhaal, who received one of the obelisks. "Not a particularly normal one. In fact, I feel sorry for any woman or man who have to accept a penis like this."'

One shudders to think what Jake will say when he wins his first Oscar...

Good luck to everyone. A full list of nominations here.

Update: Thanks to Get Real for the heads up about this video of the CAA pre Globes party which includes Jake, Maggie, Peter and Anne Hathaway and a galaxy of other stars... Jake is at the 2 minute mark. And you'll see him below - less beard and big smiles. It seems like almost everyone was at the Buffalo Club in Santa Monica on Friday night!

Jake Gyllenhaal arrives back at LAX, 3 January 2010

It's back to work for us and back to LA for Jake Gyllenhaal. Last night, Jake was seen arriving back at LAX where he took the opportunity to display his new backpack and some facefuzz. Happy New Year, Jake! Looking good!

Jake, Reese, Bag and Hats arrive safely at LAX, 4 May

The good news is Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon made it safely back to LAX last night after their long flight from Italy. The bad news is that The Bag also made it safely back to LAX last night. Not surprisingly, it attracted attention and, fortunately, Jake was able to disassociate himself from it in a manoeuvre shown in slow motion below. The hats survived the journey intact, which is more than can be said for Reese's shoes - I hope they catch the animal that did that to them.

Thanks to the friend who sent me these imagined wedding vows by Peter and Maggie.

Many thanks to IHJ for keeping up with Jake!

Jake's back in LA - 13 February in LAX

After what seems to have been a wonderful, albeit brief, trip to NYC, supporting Maggie and Peter in their joint theatrical enterprise, Jake Gyllenhaal is now back in LA. Here is Jake arriving at LAX on 13 January - without the redlined coat but with the cap still in place.

And the question is...? What is the answer?

Thanks to IHJ for the pictures.
