Jake Gyllenhaal proposes Anne Hathaway for Glee and Anne's worry for Jake

Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway appear to have their eyes on Glee, which, apparently, is not a delicious cocktail concocted from vodka and cranberry juice. 'Says Jake, "She's probably gonna be on 'Glee' first, she's hugely musical and totally out there—" "But all those things apply to you," Anne interrupts. "But it terrifies me," Jake continues, "and she's so confident in this way. So I'm gonna give that to her first."'

Jake is featured in USA Today er today and it comes accompanied by a new clip from Love and Other Drugs. You can watch that here. As for the interview itself 'The first thing (Zwick) said to me was, 'I've seen you be vulnerable in movies, but can you not be vulnerable?' I was like, 'Yeah! I can not be vulnerable!' That was a big thing," Gyllenhaal says. "Real actors respond to someone saying, 'Trust your instinct.'"

'Avoiding cliché was key for Hathaway, 28. "We were sitting there doing the scene, and we just started to improv. I was asking him if he was OK and if he wanted a glass of water and he did, and I tried to rub his shoulders and that's when he's like, 'Don't touch me!' And I was like, 'All right!' And that made it into the movie, his reaction and my yelp and the whole thing."'

'"It's sexy, but in a really good way," Gyllenhaal says. "When two people are in love, they're comfortable with each other — naked physically, literally and figuratively — and we wanted to portray that." Hathaway says that figuring out how they were going to do "this nudity thing" was one of the first conversations they had with Zwick. "We've pretty much seen each other partially naked before. It removed any kind of shyness and modesty about it. It made it very practical, like, 'Oh, we've done this!' There are no surprises there, nothing to be embarrassed about, so I think we were able to launch into it with confidence."'

'Mapping Jamie and Maggie's sexual relationship was a particularly big part of the movie as they became closer and more intimate, according to Gyllenhaal. "The sex they literally have is primal, the positions and everything. That's Annie's idea." He laughs. "It's funny that I never think about these things. When you make a movie, it's just this thing you're doing among a very small group of people, and then you're talking to people about how you were naked." Hathaway says that Gyllenhaal went out of his way to make sure she always felt comfortable on the set. "He's a very strong person, so he likes to give a lot to people, and sometimes I do worry about him giving too much. I want to say, 'I'm good, dude. Take care of yourself. Don't worry about it.' That protective instinct is really, really strong within him."'

Read the rest of the interview here.

Jake and Anne appeared on NYC ABC TV this morning and you can watch their appearance below.

Proving that there is nothing more unsure than a rumour associated with Jake Gyllenhaal's future movie roles, today he is back associated with New Year's Eve. Clearly, uncertainty remains and we are advised not to hold our breath - but rolling eyes is permitted.

This post includes scans from BBMISwear from USA Weekend - with many thanks to her as always for connecting me across the pond.

OMG! Jake talking about Glee!! That's... irresistible to me!! I'm a confirmed Gleek, you know.

One of the many traits I admire the most in Jake is his self-confidence. yet lately he's been talking about things that terrify him... and I have to say, it's inspiring. Cause when something that terrifies me appears on my horizon I do whatever is in my power to avoid it. But he's talking about facing it and... well, it makes me want to try that too. :-)

It makes you think. How ten years ago he was auditioning for Moulin Rouge -quite successfully. And now the idea of being on Glee terrifies him. I say, "Go for it, Jake". :-D

Okay. That was me commenting on the first paragraph of today's post. I'll probably come back with more opinions after reading the rest of it. Great post, WDW!

:-)

Hey Alejandra! D'you know, I've never seen Glee. I think it's picking up a bit over here but I've never seen/stumbled across it - bt the idea of Jake in something like that, I'd go for it!

I love how Jake has always been attracted to challenges and things that frighten him - he's said it for years and I love that. I get the feeling that working with Fincher, swimming with walruses and spending time away in Morocco with those poisonous toads are all challenges Jake sets himself - and it is admirable. Truly admirable.

Thank you!

Okay, my resistance is worn down. My daughter has been insisting that I need to watch Glee regularly, and I haven't up to now. But if Jake is talking about it, I guess I must become a regular viewer.:)

Great post, as usual, WDW!

Sixth Comment, video worked great for me too!

I'm also here to say that all videos, photos, articles, interviews, tid bits, etc. have worked for me just fine as I just spent the last few days catching up on 3 weeks worth of posts! Yes, 3 full weeks of posts! As much as I hate falling that behind I can't say it wasn't absolutely wonderful to read and read and watch and watch for hours at a time - phew! Lots of articles have been printed (and purchased as you've seen here via scans) so lots more reading to do still but it's been extremely enjoyable. I think I am a Love and Other Drugs Addict and the movie hasn't even been released yet (viewing #3 coming up for me in a couple of days - whoowhee)! I'm sorry to those who have to wait but I hope the wonderful clips, videos, interviews, etc. are helping with the wait - it will be worth it for you, I promise!!

You're welcome for the scans, WDW, I love 'connecting you across the pond' but really do wish you would just move here - oh the trouble we'd get in to (hee hee)!

I could go on and on but won't as there is no sense commenting on 3 weeks worth of posts. I will just add that A) I'm a confirmed Gleek and Jake would be perfect on this show (especially after seeing his SNL appearance - just perfect) and B) I have mixed opinions re: NYE so will just keep my mouth shut for now as who knows if it will even happen as stated here. I do hate waiting for new movie info, though, patience is not my strong point!

Thanks again, WDW, for creating the best Jake Gyllenhaal website on the planet. I'm looking forward to more (and more and more and more) - I told you I'm an addict!

I missed everyone here and hope to be back soon...

I can not stand Glee. It is one of the worst things on television. Too bad.
Please, Jake, no.

So his name back to that crap. Another nightmare.
Waste of talent.

To Kate and Susan: I started watching Glee when my magical Twitter friend slapped me with the link to watch the first episode online. Before that, I was "Might be too happy for me". I am forever grateful.

It's such great writing: so compassionate, so thoughtful, so political even -it's simply genius. And it stole some of the songs featured on Rock of Ages (like "Don't stop believing" and "I can't fight this feeling"). But then again, they do say "Talent borrows, Genius steals", don't they? ;-)

PS: Hey, Lisa! :-D

I've never seen Glee but you can bet your bottom dollar I'd see it if Jake were on it.

It looks like IMDB can't get any firm facts about New Years Eve. If he is doing this movie we'll find out about it soon enough since they'll be word where they are shooting. You can't hide in NY with a movie set.

I'm still waiting to hear if he'll be making that dive with the walruses, not THAT is terrifying.

LOL about the MTV interview where Jake and Anne make fun of how the reporter sounds.

Thanks WDW, I'm not holding my breath about the NYE movie NOR about the first statement the movie critic on the NY show said (before he showed clips of LAOD. I won't specify but you know what I mean. I could do with alot less speculation and lies about Jake, from them)

Thanks so much, Susan!

Hey BBMISwear! So glad to see you back! And it's good to hear that everything is in working order as you catch up. And so many thanks to you for all the articles xx Ooh, yes please, I would love to move over there :D Thank you!

Wow, Monica! That's strong! I can think of worse things... But each to their own.

Hey Alejandra! I've never seen Glee myself but I can see how people enjoy it and I can imagine Jake and Anne having a laugh relaxing with it.

Hi Sweetpea! As with so many things we must wait and see, but this NYE thing is crazy! I do wonder why they were there, then swapped for other people and then back again. But we'll know soon enough.

BBMISwear said...

Because we're on a Glee kick here I decided to comment again...wow, twice in one day!

I've loved Glee since day one but have told people who haven't watched it yet that it is important to not take it all too seriously. I've been told this warning has helped as there is a lot of build up and I think that can leave people let down a bit no matter how good the show is. The story lines are very meaningful in their own way but the way they relay that to the TV audience is very much like a parody of sorts. That is why it made me think of Jake's (or anyone's) SNL appearance as everything in Glee is exaggerated and over the top (we know the things that happen in this show don't happen that way in real life but the ideas/story lines do). I'm not sure if this makes any sense but friends have found this helpful when they finally watched as, otherwise, they may have set their expectations for something else and been disappointed. Oh, and the singing and dancing and extremely talented cast is awesome!

Okay, I've Gleeked out enough here!

P.S. Hey back to Alejandra! I just love that 'Hey Lisa' greeting and have been getting it from my on line friends over and over again - it always makes me smile!! :-)

Wow, this post is so hot it keeps crashing Safari. I could only get in using Firefox, it must be more heat resistant! I haven't tried watching the vid yet though, it might be too much. :D

Jake and Anne and Glee sounds good to me (ooh a little rhyme). I like that show - it's fun, clever and moving, with some great characters.

Darling Bluebell said...

Ooooh! Jake on Glee would be the best tv EVER! SQUEE!
*gives a high five to co-Gleek Alejandra* ;-)
Anne is rumored to play Kurt's aunt, exciting! Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt, tweeted about it this weekend and he did so with a lot of exclamation marks if I remember correctly. ;)

That whole interview was hilarious, by the way. Go Jake, go Anne! If they ever decide to make a comedic horror movie together with those low voices, I might be persuaded to watch a horror movie for the first time in years. :-D

Off to read the rest of the post...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey LLisa :-) I gleek, you gleek, we gleek.... I have a new verb! I think this show is a lot slower leaving its mark over here but I'm sure it'll catch on. I don't tend to watch musical shows on TV but I'll give this a go if I come across it. Good to see you again!

Hi Rubes! Oh dear, Jake's burnt out Safari. I must check it out! I'm so behind with the times...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Lady Ekster! Posting at the same time :D I have no idea what you're on about but it sounds great!

Darling Bluebell said...

I see we have more Gleeks in the house! Didn't notice that the first time. Sending a high five to BBMISwear and Ruby as well! :-D

Haha, thanks WDW. Can imagine it doesn't make any sense it you don't know the show, sorry about that. *blush* It really is a lot of fun and it would be even more if Jake would be on the show. :)

Now I'm really off to read the rest of the post. ;)

Wet dark, sometimes I watch some series just for curiosity and glee was one. But for me, was very bad and I do not understand all this success. Really.
The cast is one of the worst I've ever seen. Those dances are depressing.
Will be a shame to see Jake in this.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica - we all like different things and that's just how it should be. A lot of people love this show and that's great! I should give in and watch it :D

mermon said...

Hi!
WDW, thank you for new post.
Talking about Glee - I don't know that musical-show. It just starting this fall on Polish private TV channel, which I don't have.
So far, as I understood, Jake is not planning to be a part of it. It was Anne.

That MTV interview was very funny, though they both made jokes from poor interviewer, but he managed:) I like that guy, I remember him from POP interview. I like his style and how Jake reacts on him. They embarrassed him a bit but in such a funny, nice way, that I think even he had some fun from that. And again, Anne and Jake share the same sense of humour and once one of them starts to joke the other one is just there to continue. They are amazing together.

This New York Eve issue is very ridiculous. Jake appears and disappears. We have a riddle. But soon they will start to make a movie, so we will find it out.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Mermon! The MTV interview is very funny! I think the guy coped well :D As for the NYE 'thing' - it's ludicrous. Maybe Jake's struggling with making up his mind!

Alejandra said...

@Lisa The "Hey Lisa" is so catchy, this won't be the last time i greet you like that. Glad it makes you smile.

@Lady Ekster I missed that tweet from Chris Colfer. I've just read the lyrics to "Children will listen", the song Anne mentioned in the interview, and it's sooo moving. Would be great to see her on Glee. But I'll want Jake too!!

@Monica I love how you soften your views out of respect for those who don't think like you. Thank you very much for that. ;-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Alejandra! That is BBMISwear's calling card now - it makes me smile so much. And great comment by the way ;)

I'm a sickie this evening but I've had such a laugh - thanks!

Glee has a certain type of humor that if you don't understand it - then it's not understood.
This is a high school choir. With the songs and dances and such they are to look like they are a high school choir. They aren't to look like a Broadway Production.
Lea is a very good singer and that is why she is often featured As the choir member with the best voice.
Gwyneth was on last week and she was one of the best guest they have had. The Rocky Horror show i think was one of their best ones.
Some of the others haven't been "as good". But it's that type of show.
Seeing one episode of anything doesn't let you know much about what the show is about.
But maybe Monica could watch 5 of them and still not like it and that's o.k.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon! Thanks for explaining about the show - I know nothing about it. I love the Rocky Horror Show - grew up on that one. Gwyneth singing, hmmmm - with any luck that'd be better than her acting (did I say that???).

I liked it. I like her voice and style in that song.

Alejandra said...

Hey Mermon! I was surprised by Gwyneth's performance on Glee. She's definitely better than her husband IMO. ;-)

I don't get Glee on tv here either. I religiously download the episodes from the net. Including the subtitles.

Oh and I think Jake said Anne should be on Glee first. Didn't exactly say he wasn't planning on it himself. Guess the terrifying element interests him. :-)

Darling Bluebell said...

That is so funny - exactly the same over here. The first season aired here last September, but we only got one episode a week. How am I supposed to wait a week every time when they are already airing season 2 in the US?! *grin*

If Jake were to join for an episode, I'd want him to do a music battle with Mr Shue, annnd... I'd want Sue Sylvester to totally get the hots for him. Wouldn't that be hilarious?! :-D

Alejandra said...

@Lady Ekster I'm so bad at imagining plots, in spite of all my efforts... but that sounds fun indeed. I hate to say it but Matt Morrison and Jake are quite alike physically -at least from some angles. Although Jake has better hair. Much better hair. I bet Sue would agree on that and then, bam!, instant crush. ;-)

hi WDW and everybody here!
have been having a very busy weekend, and planning to do some catching up last night, but my mom banned me from touching the laptop cause i have like a zillion pages of homework, I really almost cry when she told me that.
Have fell behind since the river Nile post, I haven't got the time to watch any video except for Source code trailer,it's awesome and very thrilling(watch it 5 times). I haven't even read the EW scans..this is torture...
I've never watch Glee, don't know where it is broadcast here, but my sis said it's great, and since most of people here said it's good, guess I will see it, and if Jake really join the show, I'll definitely watch it.
ah, WDW, where the pic from river Nile post, the one with Jake and Anne playing with each other hands, come from?
I hope tonight I will be able to watch and read all the things here...
I have a real hard time commenting from my mobile
Anyway, thanks for the posts WDW!!!

Morning everyone! All these Glee comments and I haven't got a clue what you're talking about. Are you sure it's not a type of cocktail?Waves to Alejandra, Lady Ekster and Mermon!

Morning Serene Hill! I'm sorry that we're getting in the way of your homework... If you need any help with maths, I'll get Ruby to help you :D Those lovely pics were from 3AM - there's a link at the end of that post.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Gretchen! Posting at the same time because my comment took me half an hour to write! And no he isn't, thank heavens... :D

Darling Bluebell said...

Morning all! :)

@Alejandra: Jake has the better hair indeed. I like curls but Matt's curls are... I don't know. A bit too styled. ;) And Jake is sooo much more handsome, of course. I get what you mean about the physical similarities, but why would you mind that? Matt has been a professional dancer and theatre actor for years and it definitely shows. :)

@WDW: it's not a type of cocktail - although you can get pretty addicted to it. ;) I can really recommend watching the first few episodes of the series online, should Jake and/or Anne be getting involved in an epi. It's good musical fun. :)

Alejandra said...

@Lady Ekster I hate to say Matt Morrison and Jake look a bit alike because in my heart... there is no-one like Jake! Sounds creepy, I know. ;-)

And even though I don't fancy MM, I enjoy him lots and lots. I'd like it very much if he and Jake became friends eventually. MM was at the AFI premiere of LAOD so... they probably shook hands that night. First step. :-)

Morning, WDW and everybody else!

I'm gonna be back after I'm finished all the vids and everything..
Thanks WDW!!

Trying to catch up here! :)

I will take the New Year's Eve stuff with a grain of salt. We have had Jake movie rumors before that didn't happen.

Can't get enough of all these great interviews and videos! I have really enjoyed all the LAOD promotion.

Alright...back to work for me...

Hey everyone,

I am hoping the NYE is just a rumor. Jake deserves a better project, imho.

I thought he isn't doing the Early Show until Weds morning. If he is sick I hope he feels better. I think with all the running around all over the place doing promos for LAOD I have to wonder how much rest he's gotten. It can catch up to you.

feel better Jake

Thanks, MK. I thought it was weird when they mentioned satellite. He hadn't done much promos in LA for the movie (I am a bit disappointed he didn't do Ellen. Her show was on hiatus when he was doing POP promos)

I guess we'll see if he is feeling up to doing the Early show tomorrow
