[Updated] Jake Gyllenhaal set to film 'New Year's Eve'?

Updated to add these little moments from Jake Gyllenhaal's appearance on Fallon last night that I missed in my Emergency Breakfast Post post this morning.

The release of the trailer for Source Code today, arriving in the midst of the publicity for Love and Other Drugs, highlighted the fact that we have little information about what may be next for Jake Gyllenhaal. However, today, there is a rumour that is strong enough to make IMDb and ProIMDb - that Jake may be about to star in New Year's Eve, the sequel to Valentine's Day. I also cannot how tickled I am that Jake should appear in a movie inspired by my birthday...

If we take a look at the other cast, both real and rumoured, it throws up another surprise: Robert de Niro, Lea Michele, Ashton Kutcher, Abigail Breslin, Taylor Swift, Hilary Swank and Michelle Pfeiffer. According to an earlier report by the Hollywood Reporter, filming is set to begin in NYC in mid-December and the movie is set to open on 11 December 2011. 'The movie tells intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers as they navigate their way through romance over the course of New Year's Eve.'

If filming is due to start that soon, then we will certainly know one way or the other very soon (one can only hope it's an improvement on Valentine's Day).

Now back to that trailer...

Caps from IHJ.

I wrote a non-spoilery review of Harry Potter over at MovieBrit today.

Thanks, WDW. maybe this was why he and Taylor were chatting. This would be her first major movie role and could have been meeting up to talk about it.

I guess we'll have to stay tuned to see if they start filming. I wonder if they'll be shooting in Times Square (the place is a madhouse on NY Eve, I have never heard of a film trying to shoot in that craziness)

Hi Sweetpea :) He's more than welcome to film at my birthday dinner instead :D

Wasn't Taylor Swift in Valentine's Day? I think so.

And... is Jake going to spend his birthday -his 30th birthday- working? I'm not going to complain, because if this is true we will have another Jake movie during 2011. And that sounds good to me.

Did people sing in Valentine's Day? Cause they can't have Leah Michelle there and stop her from singing. ;-)

Btw, I loooooved the Source Code trailer. Yes, I want to see that film as soon as possible. In a way, it's already distracted me from LAOD. Guess when LAOD is released here, I'll focus again, tho. :-D

Have a great weekend, Gyllenhaalics. xo

Hi Alejandra! She was, along with half of Hollywood including Anne Hathaway. I've grown used to films now in which Jake plays the dominant male role - so if he is in this I'm hoping it has far fewer people in it!

Agreed about the trailer - it's great to have a distraction from LAOD which still has such a long way to go before it reaches so many of us :) As far as the UK goes there'll be lots more publicity for it nearer the time.

I hope you're having a great weekend too!

AAAAH! Source Code trailer, Jimmy Fallon, a possible new movie and I haven't even finished the River Nile Post yet! Wait for me, I can't keep up! This is all so very, very exciting. :-D

I haven't seen Valentine's Day. Is it any good?
I like the thought of Jake in a movie with Robert de Niro and Lea Michele. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Lady Ekster! Ooh do read the River Nile post (love that name!). I could have happily not done a new post this weekend, so much in it (plus the EW interview etc) but Duncan Jones and Jake had something to say about that!

I saw bits of Valentine's Day but as I can't stand the idea of Valentine's Day and I break out in a rash when I see Ashton Kutcher, it wasn't for me. This time, if Jake's in it, I'm gonna have a struggle with Kutcher!

Darling Bluebell said...

I've chopped the River Nile Post into pieces and am working my way through them over the weekend. I happened to see the Source Code trailer last night just before going to bed, and as you can probably imagine I had a hard time falling asleep after that. *big grin* It looks sooo good!

Thanks for the info on Valentine's Day. :) I just looked it up on IMDB, what a huge cast!! Is it a bit like Love Actually? The synopsis reminds me of that movie. Not exactly the type of movie I'd imagine Jake in, but then again he has a history of surprising everyone with his choices. ;)

Anonymous said...

If I might ask, why don't you like Ashton Kutcher?

winterbird said...

I actually don't mind Valentine's Day, it wasn't better or worse than any other mediocre assemble cast romcom. Less dekightful than "Love Actually", but quite watchable. Adding Jake will definitely improve it :)

Source Code looks great!!

I am surprise they want to make VD II. I watched that movie because of Taylor Lautner and I was disappointed. He has very small part and the chemistry between him and Taylor Swift was none. Ashton Kutcher was quite good in that movie.
If they make a sequel to VD, they should definitely make the sequel to POP. It was much, much better movie.
If Jake will play in VD and actually meets sometimes with Taylor Swift - they will probably be a movie couple and get familiar with each other.

mermon said...

I kept repeating VD II. Of course it should be "New Year's Eve" :)

Hi Lady Ekster! That's good to hear. I don't mind films with a big ensemble of actors all of the time, but I would spend all of this one wishing Jake were centre stage in every scene :D

Can't put my finger on it, Anon. I do know, though, that I can't think of a single thing that I do like about him.

Hi Winterbird! I did quite like some of Love Actually but I'm glad Jake wasn't in it (if it were made now that is).

Hey Mermon! I was surprised too to hear that there would be a sequel to VD.

If anyone's interested I've done a non-spoilery review of Harry Potter at MB

WDW you spoil us - a new post already!
I'm so excited about the SC trailer, it sure looks great!

BBM is on tv, so I'm off :-)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend

I like that thought, mermon. Makes absolute sense to me! :)

I just finished reading the Entertainment Weekly article. What a gem! Thanks BBMISwear for the scans. :)
With things like this I wish there was a sort of GyllenTeleport which could freeze time and transport us all to a nice, cozy café with good coffee and cocktails where we could go over and over all the goodies coming our way these weeks. That probably sounds a bit crazy but I can totally picture the fun we would have. :-D

Anonymous said...

I like how you think Lady Ekster. I'd love to get us all in a room together, with Jake of course, and watch all his movies together. Then look at Jake and chit chat and drool

sweetpea

Anonymous said...

If this is the movie and Taylor is in it then "meeting up" with someone for it would make sense. of course spending weekends together is a little more than meeting up to talk about a movie role. You can do that in a home of someone doing the movie or an office or going out to eat. That's how many seem to do it.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Fie, have a good weekend!

That does sound like a good idea, Lady Ekster :D I'm lucky enough to have quite a few Jaking evenings - which are fab! - and I wish we were nearer so we could have a biggie :D

Hi 20:35 :) For Love and Other Drugs, Jake and Anne went to movies and so on together in order to practice their intimacy for the film. It would be difficult to go into a movie relationship cold. It's interesting how acctors 'get in the mood' :)

Monica said...

This is the worst news I read about a project involving Jake Gyllenhaal.
There is no better roles for him? He should be acting in movies that James Franco and Ryan Gosling are doing. What's happening?
I'd rather see him two years without work than to see him acting in bad movies. Yes, because it seems a tragedy.
He wants to end his career? I love Jake, he is a wonderful person, but my main interest in him are in his films. And I do not like the idea of seeing him do silly things.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica! If it does turn out to be true, it could be one of those fillers, rather than a main movie for Jake. We'll have to wait and see :)

meg said...

New here, Love the site!!!

I am going to wait till we actually have a reliable source that says he is going to be in New Years, weird his name was not in the article of people being talked about for the film but was on IMDB.
The first one was bad enough why in the world make a sequel?

If him and Taylor are somehow in this movie together then why have they not denied the rumors? I would think if they were only hanging out for a movie they would just come out and say that.

Jimmy Fallon interview was funny, wish they would have talked more about the movie though.

mermon said...

About update - I am not a fan of this sandwich song/dance. Special that moment between the audience - that was a kind of "molesting" for me. Though a guy looked happy, but I don't like this kind of humour. I also don't understand the reason of repeating this song/dance for the second time, maybe they said something about it, but I didn't get it.

Happy BBM watching - Fie! On Monday evening, on Polish TV I will have The Day After Tomorrow :)

I'm also not very happy about this New Year's Eve movie for Jake, specially with Taylor (if it's true), because as I remember her from Valentine's Day, she wasn't a good actress, a bit stiff for me.
But maybe Jake is in mood to make funny, light romantic comedy. Usually it involves quite a lot of good actors. The kind of holiday's movie. He started his career with more serious movies, maybe he needs a change now. I will certainly go to watch every movie he will be in :).
I think Jake and Taylor didn't deny the rumours because it was too early to talk about new movie, maybe they have fun watching the news and it's good promotion for new project.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Meg and welcome! Thanks for commenting :D The addition of Jake's name to the IMDb listing for the film postdates the article about the film so he's only just been associated with it. Some names have been attached for quite a long time. But yes, he's down as rumoured still. I do agree about the merit of a sequel...

I wish the Fallon interview had talked about the movie more too. Much more interesting than talking about that bloody sandwich again!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Mermon! Posting at the same time :D It's a late night show (very late, actually, I'm amazed how late this show is) but I was surprised to find the same thing twice. Although Jake's singing made me laugh!

As I mentioned, if this film does come off for Jake then it could be a filler - it would hardly be a major film for him when these movies feature half of Hollywood :D Slight exaggeration I realise :)

Alejandra said...

Hey hey hey!

First, I want those Jimmy Fallon clips on YouTube so I can download them and then watch and re-watch endlessly.

Second, the screenplay for NYE was written by the same person who created Army Wives. I watched a bit of that when I still had cable and I liked it enough.

Third, Jake has earned the right to choose what he wants to do. If eventually you find out you don't like one or two or three of his choices... I guess it's ultimately no big thing. I remember something fabulous David Bowie said once. Something like "I have a deal with my fans: if they like my record, they buy it. If they don't like it, they don't buy it. And it's cool." You know, the star and the fans don't have to stick together at all costs. You can grow apart and then join again at a different moment.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

What a great comment, Alejandra! I totally agree. I've not liked all of Jake's films, although most of them I've loved a great deal, and it's all part of a great long career that is so rewarding to watch. David Bowie is a wise chap. His son's not bad either...

Alejandra said...

I know, WDW! Bowie has had what many might consider "forgettable" records but no-one can doubt the man is a genius. And having watched "Moon", I think he did a great job raising that kid Duncan too. ;-)

I like to think of jigsaw puzzles. There are the boring "sky" pieces, for instance. But they add to the beauty of the whole picture. I don't think there can be a beautiful picture without boring or even annoying pieces. That's part of our work, if we care to do it: to put the picture together. :-)

mermon said...

Your previous post was very wise, Alejandra!

We like different Jake's movies, but it's always someone who likes the movie, someone other doesn't like. In that way all Jake's movies have fans :) And it will be the same with NYE.

Jake has faithful fans, I think that anyway we all will go to the cinema to see him on big screen.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That's a great way to look at things, Alejandra!

That is so true, Mermon :D It's a safe bet that I would watch Jake reading from a phone book. I might be critical of it but I'll definitely watch it :D

I would love to see Jake in Shakespeare - I'd love to hear him speak that language, he'd do it beautifully. A History play perhaps.

Monica said...

Yes, Jake is free to do whatever he wants, but I will not agree with everything he does.
I'm not happy with this news. If it was a Woody Allen movie, all right, but this?
what a shame.
God, he is a brilliant actor. He deserves much more than that.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Monica.

Looks like I'll be skipping this New Year's Eve movie if it's true. I just don't like those cheesy romantic comedy movies where the cast is so large with stars that you can't keep the storylines straight.

Anonymous said...

Alejandra I agree with what David Bowie said. As fans if we don't like a movie we don't have to see it.

I didn't go to see Brothers when it was at the movies, I decided to wait until it was out on DVD. I have Not bought Rendition or Brothers because I didn't care for either movie. I think Jake is a great actor, but not every movie he does is going to be a home run. I have the right to go along for the ride or wait for the next movie. I am looking forward to LAOD and SC, IF NYE ends up being a movie he is doing I'll wait until it gets filmed and see if it interests me. If not I'll skip it and wait for the next movie that does pull my interest.

I think of English actors always working and everything they do isn't Shakespeare as in they can go from being a bit player in a movie to star to doing odd roles to regular things but always thinking of them as excellent actors.
If they feel it's a good role it's not beneath them.
And we don't know yet if all the people mentioned for that movie are actually going to be in it.
It seemed to me Jake and Reese were mentioned as maybe being in Valentine's Day and that didn't happen nor was it even something they were going to do.

Just Fan said...

That's how I do it too. I can only speak for myself, but I'm surprised by his choice regarding NYE. I'd never have thought he'd do types of movies Ashton Kutcher does. I've always seen him in the same league as James Franco or Ryan Gosling (I'm talking about the actors in his age group).
His choice is a little surprising, but it's his choice.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Monica and Justfan. This is NOT good news. Did any of you see "Valentine's Day?" I did--unfortunately. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!!! I don't even understand WHY they're doing a sequel--did the first one do well? There probably wasn't anything else out that week if it DID well. It was so wretched that I kid you not Ashton Kutcher gave the best performance.

I agree that Jake should be doing the roles Gosling and Franco are doing. Is he NOT being offered them?? This is truly a very bad decision on his part.

Darling Bluebell said...

*clears throat* It seems that once again some people need to remind themselves of the definition of a rumor . Of course everyone is free to like or dislike the idea of NYE, but at the moment it's no use to be talking in terms of Jake's choices, decisions, career moves etc. It doesn't make sense as long as it's not confirmed, right? *grin*

Alejandra, I love your jigsaw puzzle metaphor! Brilliant. :)

Sweetpea, I most definitely agree with the idea that Jake should GyllenTeleport himself to that meeting too. *big grin*

Hui said...

Is it that awful that Jake in NYE??
I mean, come on, it's a "holiday movie".No one take seriously of the actors acting in the film.
Anne and Juila Roberts are also in Valentine's day, does this mean they are bad actresses?
Maybe Jake just want to relax :)
and it won't take much time of him(mayby one month or a few weeks?).

Did you guys see the preview of "Your Heighness" ??
Not everyone think it's a good idea of Natalie Portman and James Franco.Maybe they also want to take different type of filmes:)

sorrry about my English:/

bty, I LOVE THE PREVIEW OF SOURCE CODE. IT LS FANTASTIC!!!!!

You know if the sequel is good enough for De Niro, then it should be good enough for Gyllenhaal. I understand Michelle Phieffer and Denzel Washington, also academy award nominees and winners are rumored for the sequel as well. Whar young actor wouldn't want to star in a movie with this great proven actors?

If the sequel is anything like the first movie, the most scenes Jake will have will be 3-4. And if the others are in the movie, Jake will not be the star. It will be strictly co-stars like the first movie. By the way if these actors are in the movie, then some of the actors from the frst movie should bow out gracefully because some of them sucked. Stop emabarassing themselves go back to Twlight or your first choice of career.

Source Code looks awesome! It's not quite what I thought it would be, but it's even better than what I was thinking :) I can't wait to LAOD and SC. Keep 'em coming, Jake.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! Great to see so many of you here and what a range of opinions - which is good :D

That is a good point about the other cast members - de Niro, Pfeiffer etc. That could be quite a draw. And yep if Jake does sing on the dotted line for this one he could have barely a handful of scenes. Could fill that gap while he picks his next big role. But it is still just rumoured.

I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday. I'm pitting my feet up today. How was Anne's SNL?

mermon said...

Good Morning!
I found good reason to enjoy the idea of Jake involving in NYE:).
So far he has nothing else to film. At least it looks like. And who knows how long we would have to wait for the next project. And now somehow Jake looks the most beautiful and I would love to see it on the screen. He has a good time in his man's life, he's so self confident and charming and looks just gorgeous. It should be memorized on the screen. And I believe in his talent, that his part may be good. If I suppose to wait, who knows how long, for the next movie, I'd rather see him in light rom-comedy.
Some people use to say that the movies from the beginning of his career were depressing, now we can see that he changes his choices, like he's a different, grown up man. POP, LAOD even si-fi/adventure SC are completely different movies. Maybe one day he will go back to indie movies, if he will feel like. Do you really want to see him in one type of the films. I think rom-com suit his character and humour. And he's single right now. Just let him have some fun with a woman at least on the set :)
Of course I agree, nobody is forced too see the movie, it's our choice and we can discuss it here. Look how many comments we have under this last news post. That means we care :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I totally agree, Mermon! And it really just show just how much we care :)

New post!
