[Updated]More SBIFFing Jake, with a look from the past, and DGA news

There are more pictures today from Friday's celebration of David Fincher at SBIFF, and the more you look at Jake Gyllenhaal working this look, new for him, it's almost as if Jake is playing a role, one from another decade. I hate to mention Torso again - but now I have mentioned it, could it be that Jake is giving Fincher a taste of a possible Ness? Thanks to IHJ for the new photos, as well as to the photographer of Santa Barbara Independent newspaper, Paul Wellman.

We know that Jake had this to say about David, 'I want to tell you a secret about David Fincher. He has a big brain and a big heart.' But one wonders what was said to cause this response!

Last night was the Directors Guild Awards in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, David didn't win (Danny Boyle had another victory) but the event was marked by a panel discussion between all five nominees, during which the directors discussed their influences.

Christopher Nolan was among the five and he spoke of the importance of Heath Ledger's opening scene in The Dark Knight - to smash the iconography of previous Jokers. '"I wanted to have Heath with an iron-clad opening," Nolan added in explaining the importance of the film's beginning.' Nolan also revealed during the evening that, should Heath win the Oscar, the award would be accepted by Heath's family. It is unlikely that any moment of the entire awards season would be more memorable and emotional than that one.

ETA: I enjoyed this account of the awards: 'Presenter Jodie Foster said of her Panic Room director David Fincher, "I don't know if I've ever worked with a crazier person in my life," and though she said it with a smile, it was clear she wasn't really kidding. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button star Brad Pitt went another route, saying, via a taped message, "[David] has got a great ass."' Lovely!

OT but I saw Milk this afternoon and I certainly hope that film gets some recognition as well. Sean Penn did a fine job (as did the man with the 'perfect head' James Franco).

ETA: Some people have had an early glimpse of the Prince of Persia poster at preview screenings of Confessions: 'And since this is after all a Bruckheimer movie, a special shout-out for the special effects. These mannequins were just superbly done and they really scared the guys. Yes, I saw this movie with 3 guys. They were very impressed with the Prince of Persia poster. I mean, very, very impressed.' Sounds good!

Hi Anon! Yes, that's right - Paramount let its rights lapse at Christmas - but Jake doesn't half look the part!

I cannot believe my word - twittypoo :0

I have over 10cm of snow outside in the garden already!

aaaarrrggghh... I wish I don't have to go to work tomorrow.

I think Jake is either still in the mood of the role he played in Jamie Foxx's video or he's giving Fincher ideas for Ness :) The right has lapsed but Fincher is still attached to the project... times are tough indeed if they won't even get this project off the ground for Fincher, after Benjamin Button's success.

wrap up, WDW :)

I'm not sure about Jake's new "Ness" look especially the hat. Someone that gorgeous should not be hiding behind a hat!!

It's great to see David Fincher getting recognition for his work. I'm really looking forward to seeing Ben Button next weekend. I do hope that Torso project still goes ahead and Jake is involved in it somewhere. I'd love to see him working with Fincher again.

I saw Milk aswell over the weekend. It was a really moving and thought provoking movie. The issues raised in it definitely had me and my friend talking after we left the cinema. Sean Penn and, another crush of mine, James Franco gave really good performances. I'd love to see Sean Penn get the Oscar but I think that it is Mickey Rourke's year.

Well, I'd like to see Sean Pen get the Oscars, because it's a hell of a work to impersonate a gay when you are not, and I don't think it requires too much to play a rustler when you ARE one. (I say that without watching the films...but still...I speak too much!)

About the hat...I love it even if it's too small for that beautiful big head (in a good way).

WDW, I'm so sorry to tell that my father passed away on January 18th. It's been a sad time for all of us, but you know...I don't think he would like to live in pain, so it's better this way. He's lived a great life!
I must be strong in order to carry the weak ones, right? I'm doing it.
Life goes on.

Thank you for thinking of me during this time. You are the sweetest!

Lots of love

Monica O

P.S. Atticus called me MonniO. Love it!

Oh...I forget: Jake is hot.

Hello,

I'm from criticalfilmcondition.com and we've been to a press screening of "Confessions of a Shopaholic"... Let me just say: THE "PRINCE OF PERSIA" POSTER LOOKS BADASS, as does Jake on it.

Unfortunately, the movie will open to the public in a few weeks, so you'll have to wait until then to see the poster :-(

Morning everyone! OMG we have snow, we have travel chaos - England cannot cope! Made it into work unfortunately...

Morning Winterbird! I hear it's bad in the Smoke so take care. I do think Jake looks like he's acting here so who knows what the intentions were but it's fun to speculate. I'm wrapped up, which meant I didn't feel it when a brat walloped me with a snowball...

Hi Del Boy! OMG, that's so funny. At least he smartened up inside :D Maybe a camelhair coat is next?

Hey Carol! You must go and see Ben Button next week - it's just marvellous. I loved Milk - it was great to see San Francisco. I was surprised by how hot Franco looked! I'm gonna own up to not liking Rourke at all, so I'm hoping he doesn't get it - I'd like Brad or Sean to win I think.

Hi there Monica O - I was so sorry to hear of your father - We're thinking of you and sending the love over xx

MonniO! Jake is hot!

(unlike the weather here...)

Hi Guddy! Posting at the same time :D Thanks so much for that. Badass Jake is great! Yep, we still have a wait more's the pity. But can you tell me one thing?! Is the poster easy to spot? (shirt? No shirt? ahem) Thanks for popping by, Guddy :D

Thanks Guddy, it's always a pleasure to get unbiased non-gyllenhaalic opinions. With all this snow chaos over here, it's giving me a warm feeling about how good PoP is going to be.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... :o)

Wow, so many things to catch up on, and you covered it all with the usual mastery, WDW. Love you. *)

Yeah, I think Jake is playing a role too, not so sure if it is for Torso but I wish to, trying to have some fun with his job since this is gonna be a much busier year (I hope) than the past retired one.

I can't see any sadness in his eyes honestly, Jake has big beautiful melancholic eyes, Jack's eyes, that's all.
And oh my god isn't he just the most gorgeous man in the world?

A good day to you all. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba! Wouldn't mind a spot of that Persian heat either... or the Prince. Too much flippin snow here...

Ahhh Xenia - thank you *) Love you too! I like that thought, that Jake is having fun with his job and I think that's true. Oh yes, he is the most gorgeous man - sigh :D

The poster is about half-way through the movie, and they sorta get you ready for it, giving you a good drive-thru 5th Avenue (where the poster was inserted). It's HUGE, easy to spot and the good news for all the ladies out there is that he has no shirt on (but you didn't hear it from me).

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh, Guddy, thanks very much! That's great news - not much chance of missing it then :D Shirtless... you just made my heart beat faster - thank you! Yep, we didn't hear it from you, right guys?

Anonymous said...

Guddy who? Hear what? Where am I?

(my word is sister. It says a lot.)

Mmmm.... now it makes me want to organise a girls night out to catch "confession of a shopaholic", so we can have shirtless Jake for dessert... :P

Am I the only person who got into work today? it's still snowing outside, our office decides to close at 3pm.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh good word, Monica O. Morning :D

Excellent idea, Winterbird! And then if the film's rubbish, you can leave after The Poster.

I'm afraid I made it in too. I've just been out for a walk and it is so slippy out there - saw a traffic warden fall flat on his bum :O

The thought of a shirtless Prince has warmed up this freezing day:)

I was thinking of waiting for DVD for that Shopaholic movie if "The Poster" wasn't that visible but I will most definitely be checking it out after Guddy's comments.

Thank you so much Guddy:)

WDW I have to agree with you that Franco was looking really hot in Milk.

Have a good day everyone.

I loved what James Franco did in Milk. This is definitely Heath's year, If it were not for that, I would definitely rank James Franco as MY Best Supporting Actor. He probably would have been nominated.

Based on your report of Jodie and Brad Pitt, and observing Jake with Fincher, David Fincher must be a very accessible guy. It might be painful, and sometimes exasperating to work with him, but the end result, from an actor's point of view, has to be that they are seeing some of their best work when they collaborate with Fincher.

Remember, the events depicted in Milk, and the issues articulated happened more then 20 years ago. And most of them remain unresolved. And people are still getting killed.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi 13:38 :D I couldn't agree with you more about David Fincher. the process is definitely worth the results and he's regarded with so much affection.

Milk was quite an eye opener, 13:41. I thought it was an excellent reminder.

Snowing again....

"It's HUGE, easy to spot and the good news for all the ladies out there is that he has no shirt on (but you didn't hear it from me)."

I let out an involuntary yelp- couldn't help it. Thank you so much Mr Bruckheimer... for teasing us.

OK, it's a trip to the cinema for me as College is closed today and tomorrow. No doubt schools will be closed too. I love the snow but I've had 2 idiots rear-end my poor baby. She's quite resilient though as no dents on the bumper.

Btw: great post and quips WDW, I love the 5th picture as all 3 people are among my favourites. It's so great to see Jake again, in public, confident, smiling, putting on a good show for us. We'll never really know how he feels but it's just great to have him back. I look forward to the good things that 2009 has instore for Jake and his inner circle.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Sheba! Yep, Jerry can tease us all he wants if it means a Shirtless Jake :D I really do echo your thoughts on how good it is to see Jake out there being the star again. I hope we get a LOT more of that this year.

Have a good trip out and watch those drivers! It's not snowing here for the minute but it's extremely slippy. Off soon for the crawl home.

Didn't make it to work so I wanted to say a quick ribibo to all and let WDW know that twittypoo will not be forgotten ;)

Hey there Nouskie! I hope the snow eases for you tomorrow (not that I'd wish work on anyone...). I can't believe they stopped every London bus - that is rubbish.

I hope everyone's having a good evening. I got home in record time because so few people went to work!
