We know that Jake had this to say about David, 'I want to tell you a secret about David Fincher. He has a big brain and a big heart.' But one wonders what was said to cause this response!
Last night was the Directors Guild Awards in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, David didn't win (Danny Boyle had another victory) but the event was marked by a panel discussion between all five nominees, during which the directors discussed their influences.
Christopher Nolan was among the five and he spoke of the importance of Heath Ledger's opening scene in The Dark Knight - to smash the iconography of previous Jokers. '"I wanted to have Heath with an iron-clad opening," Nolan added in explaining the importance of the film's beginning.' Nolan also revealed during the evening that, should Heath win the Oscar, the award would be accepted by Heath's family. It is unlikely that any moment of the entire awards season would be more memorable and emotional than that one.
ETA: I enjoyed this account of the awards: 'Presenter Jodie Foster said of her Panic Room director David Fincher, "I don't know if I've ever worked with a crazier person in my life," and though she said it with a smile, it was clear she wasn't really kidding. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button star Brad Pitt went another route, saying, via a taped message, "[David] has got a great ass."' Lovely!
OT but I saw Milk this afternoon and I certainly hope that film gets some recognition as well. Sean Penn did a fine job (as did the man with the 'perfect head' James Franco).
ETA: Some people have had an early glimpse of the Prince of Persia poster at preview screenings of Confessions: 'And since this is after all a Bruckheimer movie, a special shout-out for the special effects. These mannequins were just superbly done and they really scared the guys. Yes, I saw this movie with 3 guys. They were very impressed with the Prince of Persia poster. I mean, very, very impressed.' Sounds good!

I think Jake is either still in the mood of the role he played in Jamie Foxx's video or he's giving Fincher ideas for Ness :) The right has lapsed but Fincher is still attached to the project... times are tough indeed if they won't even get this project off the ground for Fincher, after Benjamin Button's success.

It's great to see David Fincher getting recognition for his work. I'm really looking forward to seeing Ben Button next weekend. I do hope that Torso project still goes ahead and Jake is involved in it somewhere. I'd love to see him working with Fincher again.
I saw Milk aswell over the weekend. It was a really moving and thought provoking movie. The issues raised in it definitely had me and my friend talking after we left the cinema. Sean Penn and, another crush of mine, James Franco gave really good performances. I'd love to see Sean Penn get the Oscar but I think that it is Mickey Rourke's year.
Well, I'd like to see Sean Pen get the Oscars, because it's a hell of a work to impersonate a gay when you are not, and I don't think it requires too much to play a rustler when you ARE one. (I say that without watching the films...but still...I speak too much!)
About the hat...I love it even if it's too small for that beautiful big head (in a good way).
WDW, I'm so sorry to tell that my father passed away on January 18th. It's been a sad time for all of us, but you know...I don't think he would like to live in pain, so it's better this way. He's lived a great life!
I must be strong in order to carry the weak ones, right? I'm doing it.

Unfortunately, the movie will open to the public in a few weeks, so you'll have to wait until then to see the poster :-(

The poster is about half-way through the movie, and they sorta get you ready for it, giving you a good drive-thru 5th Avenue (where the poster was inserted). It's HUGE, easy to spot and the good news for all the ladies out there is that he has no shirt on (but you didn't hear it from me).

I loved what James Franco did in Milk. This is definitely Heath's year, If it were not for that, I would definitely rank James Franco as MY Best Supporting Actor. He probably would have been nominated.
Based on your report of Jodie and Brad Pitt,and observing Jake with Fincher, David Fincher must be a very accessible guy. It might be painful, and sometimes exasperating to work with him, but the end result, from an actor's point of view, has to be that they are seeing some of their best work when they collaborate with Fincher.
Remember, the events depicted in Milk, and the issues articulated happened more then 20 years ago. And most of them remain unresolved. And people are still getting killed.

OK, it's a trip to the cinema for me as College is closed today and tomorrow. No doubt schools will be closed too. I love the snow but I've had 2 idiots rear-end my poor baby. She's quite resilient though as no dents on the bumper.
Btw: great post and quips WDW, I love the 5th picture as all 3 people are among my favourites. It's so great to see Jake again, in public, confident, smiling, putting on a good show for us. We'll never really know how he feels but it's just great to have him back. I look forward to the good things that 2009 has instore for Jake and his inner circle.
