Fears mount that Jake Gyllenhaal knows how to do the Macarena

Alarming reports have emerged from the Mellon Arena set of Love and Other Drugs yesterday. I advise you to take a seat. Jake Gyllenhaal was seen doing the Macarena.

While it is not known if this wanton display of hip wriggling will form a pivotal part of the movie or was simply a new Relaxation Before You Go On Stage technique for Jake, it is very true that the Macarena fits the 1990s' date of the film. For all I know, the Macarena played a well-established bonding role in every pharmaceutical rep get together of the '90s.

It is therefore extremely fitting that the wonderful IHJ has chosen today of all days to upload new old pictures from the song and dance rehearsal for 2004's Sundance. In these pictures of Jake and Zooey Deschanel, the showman is desperately trying to burst out of Jake (ala John Hurt in Alien). If given the chance, how could anyone doubt the glee with which Jake would cry out 'Heeeyyyyy Macarena!'?

If the Macarena features in Love and Other Drugs, it's clear we're going to have to brush up on this much (actually, not very much) loved dance and get ready to sing and dance along with Jake - I can already imagine the DVD extras. I therefore post below an educational video.

Many thanks to IHJ for the pics!

Have I been drinking too much wine or are the Telletubbies doing the Macarena on WetDarkandWild?

I'd best put some coffee on.

Heehee... fear not. Jake doing the Macarena, makes me feel he's closer to "my generation" :P Not that I know the steps.

I am sure he's keeping everyone on set entertained. Lucky bunch!

I think that's yes and yes... Don't bother with the coffee, Rubes, just get out the pink wine and practise those moves! I always loved those little rabbits hopping around in Telletubby world.

Hey Winterbird! I fear I missed the Macarena phenomenon - I seem to have skipped straight to House and Rave back in the 1990s. I feel fortunate. It's great to hear of Jake making everyone smile though - love that! He's made me smile today, just with the thought!

Ha! Ha! Ha! OMG, I would pay good money to see Jake do the macarena! :D I'm praying that it's for the movie, not just horsing around between takes. But even if it's just to have fun, at least he's enjoying himself on the set. That's always good.

I'd love to see the rehearsal with Zoe Deschanel, is there a clip of it somewhere? They look like they're having so much fun. :)

With any luck we will be paying good money for it, Olympia!! OMG I bet he put heart and soul into it and a real twinkle in the eye. There's not a vid of the rehearsal but I've added to the end of the post the video from the finished product :D

LOL! Thanks, I'd forgotten about that clip. It's great but I wish it was longer. Jake is hilarious in it and it's a very good example of that twinkle in the eye. I love that twinkle and the energy he puts into things like this. He's a really good entertainer and I hope some day he does something like Hugh Jackman when he hosted the Oscars. That was fantstic!

It's a great video, Olympia :D I wish there was more of it too, showing the whole presentation they made. Jake is a GREAT entertainer! He's be so good doing something like Hugh did (with Anne :D) and I think Jake would love it.

omg i want to see that!!!!!!!!*cries*
but the teletubbies are doing it wrong.i was 10 when it came out, i'd know it.lol. =P and the image of him doing it...gah i wanna see it. ;_;

this of course immediately reminded me of his Riverdance imitation on Donnie Darko set.he's so goofy and adorable.

and why isn't there a full video of that Sundance sing&dance with Zooey? :(( and that talk show where they showed a clip of Jake singing when he was 6(Jay Leno's i think).who do we have to kidnap for those to get released?

WIM.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Poor teletubbies - they're doing their best with their bright tubby bodies :D

Hey Gretchen! I know - all videos of Jake singing and dancing should be freely available to each of us. These are international treasures. I love these pics though :D

So you're a Macareno then? Or is that a Macaroni?

That was hilarious! I'm so glad I missed the macarena but, to my shame, I remember the chicken dance!

Monica said...

I hate Macarena!!

These photos are wonderful!Jake and Zooey are funny!
Thanks steph and wet dark!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ah yes, TD! There is worse than the Macarena - remember the Birdy Song :D

Hi Monica :D Me too! They're great pics - full of fun and character. I'm so glad Stephanie posted them!

lol whut.i have no idea.haha.
i don't even know what Macarena means.

i agree about the song being horrible.but well when you're a kid you don't really notice that. =P and it was damn huge that year.playing everywhere.

i hope someone was filming Jake's dance for the dvd extras. *prays*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

OMG, I'm so counting on those DVD extras, Gretchen! This stuff is just too good for us to miss, you hear, Mr Zwick? :D

I much prefer the Lambada from that era - I wish he'd dance that. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon :D A Lambada would be good - or a nice tango :)

Anonymous said...

A nice tango would be great! I wonder how they danced in 6th century Persia? :)

Gretchen said...

Lambada is rather 80s though, isn't it?

but yea i wouldn't mind seeing Jake dancing that.but than he'd need a partner.making a huge sacrifice,i volunteer!

I'd say late 80s to mid 90s.

I can't wait to see Jake doing the Macarena! This has got to be in the movie, right? I mean it is so 90's!

I've been looking for the full video clip of Jake and Zooey's song and dance at the Sundance Film Festival for years. It is quite mean of the Sundance Channel to give us a little teaser highlight clip but not make the full performance available. *pouts*

Those Teletubbies are fun unless you had a 3 year old who watched it over and over and over again...which I did quite some time ago...LOL!

With so many people there I hope more reports (and pictures and videos PLEASE!!!) come out of today's shoot at the Mellon Arena.

Thanks for keeping us on top of everything as usual WDW!

:-)

Hi there 23:58! Why am I thinking Egyptian Sand Dance....? :D

Hey Gretchen - there is most definitely a long line!

Morning BBMISwear :-) You would have thought that Jake wasn't doing a 90s' dance just for his own amusement. Must be in the film! Teletubbied out, eh? I've only caught little bits, I find them strangely fascinating, much to Mr WDW's amusement.

I've been hoping for more of that video too - and pics, give me pics!!!

Have a good day everyone! It's so dark out there, it's creepy :(

Happy Birthday Paola/Freetraveller!! xx

Fun post WDW:)

Just saw on Empire website that Empire Sexiest Movie Star Poll just revealed. Jake came in at no. 16 and Heath was at no. 14.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Carol! And that's good news although obviously Jake should be top. Good to see Heath in there.

Out for tea with Rubes! Loving my Blackberry - now I can post from the pub (sorry - teashop)

BBMISwear said...

Tea?! Ya, right!! LOL!! Have one (or two) for me!!

*waves to Rubes*

:-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey BBMISwear :-) Back home now! There's definitely a little bit left in the teapot for you! It was a lovely evening, be good to have you with us - it's such a litle pond... :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! Frday! I hope everyone has a good day - I don't feel too bad despite overdoing the tea a bit :D

I am very ready for some pics of Jake filming! C'mon people!

BBMISwear said...

Come on people is right! All those people at the Mellon Arena and no pictures? No videos? And only one report? Did the "extras" have to make some kind of a pinky swear not to leak any details or something?! Jeez.

I'm drinking tea right now myself, WDW. (ahem) Actual tea that is.

Happy Friday! :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Good morning BBMISwear - enjoy your tea :-) I may lay off the stuff for a while... It's so frustrating! All those people and nothing. Maybe they were all frisked with a camera detector... Oh well, I live in hope!

Have a good Friday :)

Will These Guys Ever Win Oscars? Part III, The Under 35 Crowd
Jake Gyllenhaal (28)
Nominated For: "Brokeback Mountain" – 2006 – Supporting
Why He’s a Contender: After more than proving himself with the feel-good film "October Sky" ('99) and the cult hit "Donnie Darko" ('01), Gyllenhaal hit the big time after receiving an Oscar nomination along with his late co-star/secret lover, Heath Ledger, for the infamous gay cowboy film, "Brokeback Mountain" ('05). Neither man went on to win the award, although Ledger received one posthumously for his role in "The Dark Knight" ('08). Whether or not Gyllenhaal can obtain one of his own, remains to be seen. His performance in "Jarhead" ('05) was overlooked in our opinion, much like the film itself, and later this year he co-stars in the family drama "Brothers" with Tobey Maguire. That film looks a little forced to us, but in a weak year might give either actor a chance.

Have a great day!

Hi Monica! It's great to see Jake getting the attention :) Let's hope this does come true...

I have the Jake "Riverdance" clip among my saved pictures. I didn't know that was filmed during "Donnie Darko."

I don't recall the Macarena being all that famous in the 1990s. It was in Steve Martin's movie "My Blue Heaven," but that was hardly a landmarik film. :-/
